DAY 2, Fri Arrive in Thessaloniki and transfer to your hotel. Balance of the day at leisure. This evening a welcome dinner (D): THESSALONIKI DAY 3, Sat Drive to the seaside city of Kavala (biblical Neapolis) where Paul, Silas, Luke, and Timothy first set foot in Europe from Troy. Travel along the Via Egnatia, a remnant of Rome's highway, to Phillipi. Here St. Paul preached his first sermon in Europe and "baptized a certain woman named Lydia," Europe's first convert to Christianity. View the Roman City Forum and early basilicas and see where Paul was flogged, imprisoned, and later released. Follow Paul's footsteps as you travel through Amphipolis and Apollonia (B, D): THESSALONIKI DAY 4, Sun Tour the city of Thessaloniki, built around 315 BC, including the ancient walls, the White Tower, St. Demetrius, St. Sophia, and the 5th century St. George's Church. Continue to Veria to visit Christchurch, one of the finest examples of early brick churches with its interior covered with frescoes depicting the life of Christ, the Virgin Mary and the apostles. Proceed to Vergina for a visit to the Museum which houses the Treasures of Alexander the Great. Finally, continue to Kalambaka (B, D): KALAMBAKA DAY 5, Mon Travel to western Thessaly to visit the famous Byzantine Monastery, the Meteora, perched precariously on top of a rock. Continue through the Greek countryside to Delphi, the center of the ancient world (B, D): DELPHI DAY 6, Tues Visit the Sanctuary of Apollo and the theater. Visit the Museum where, among other treasures, you will see the unique bronze charioteer. Proceed to Athens via Arachova, famous for its colorful rugs and carpets. Remainder of the day at leisure (B, D): ATHENS DAY 7, Wed Visit the Golden Age of Pericles, the Acropolis, the Parthenon, Mars Hill, Hadrian's Arch, the modern Olympiad Stadium and other highlights of this ancient city. Balance of day at leisure (B, D): ATHENS DAY 8, Thurs Travel to the Peloponnesian Peninsula and the biblical town of Corinth. Pass the Corinth Canal which links the Aegean and Ionian Seas. At Corinth, which was visited by St. Paul for 18 months (51-52 AD), see the excavations, the Bema Seat, and the museum. Continue on to Cenchra, the eastern Roman seaport connecting the Aegean and Corinthian Seas. Continue to Mycenae to view the beauty of Agamemnon's Greece in the famous Gate of the Lions and the Acropolis. This evening enjoy a farewell dinner (B, D): ATHENS DAY 9, Fri Transfer to the airport for your departure flight (B). 3 Day Greek Islands Extension: Transfer from hotel to pier in Piraeus (Athens, Greece) to board ship for 11:00 a.m. departure. Evening in Mykonos (Greece) from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. (B, L, D) DAY 10, Sat Day in Rhodes (Greece) from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (B, L, D) DAY 11, Sun Morning in Patmos (Greece) from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Afternoon in Kusadasi (Ephesus, Turkey) from 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (B, L, D) DAY 12, Mon Disembark cruise in Piraeus at 7:00 a.m. Transfer to the airport for your departure flight (B). |
