Daily life aboard ship is casual. Bring casual clothing made of lightweight, breathable fabrics and a bathing suit. For evenings, smart casual dress is generally acceptable. Some evenings may require more formal dress. Shorts are not permitted at dinner or cocktail receptions. |
Language |
English is generally spoken by all cruise staff. |
Passportsand Visas |
All U.S. citizens must carry a valid passport, which is valid for six months after the day of your arrival in Egypt. Visas may be purchased at the airport in Egypt for approximately $20. See www.gate1travel.com/visas.htm for more information. |
Currency |
The Egyptian pound is the official currency of Egypt, but US Dollars are accepted on all cruises. All extras on board such as drinks bills, laundry, bills, telephones bills, will be settled at the last day of the cruise at check out time. Payment can be made with credit cards, travelers check, or cash. |

Suggested tipping is $5 per person per day to be paid at the end of your cruise. |

The voltage used is 220 volts. *Note: The U.S. uses 120 volts and you can purchase a converter and transformer at most hardware stores for your 120V appliances. |

Cabin Assignments |
Twin lower berth outside cabins with private facilities are standard in all Gate 1 programs. Cabins are assigned within a general cabin category on run-of-ship basis. Gate 1 Travel cannot guarantee a specific assignment. Cabin assignments on Egypt River Cruises will be made upon check-in. |
Dining Room Seating |
| On Egypt River Cruises, each meal is only offered at one sitting. Therefore, it is not necessary to request early or late sitting. |
Meals and Dietary Restrictions |
If you have any dietary restrictions, please advise Gate 1 Travel in advance and we will make every effort to accommodate your needs. Please understand, however, that we cannot guarantee the compliance of the restaurants where you will be dining. Meals are provided in accordance with the particular package you've purchased. In general, beverages are not included with meals (although there are some exceptions). The dinners included in tour packages are based on set menus. We will endeavor to provide an alternate main course if so requested. |
Health Precautions |
No inoculations are necessary when arriving in Egypt from the U.S. but consult with your health care provider before traveling. *To prevent "Montezuma's Revenge," avoid the tap water, including raw fruits and vegetables washed in tap water. Your stomach may still become upset due to the change in diet. Bring anti-diarrhea medicine just in case. Bottled water is provided in your cabin and at the bar at all times free of charge. Drinking water is provided during meal times. *For the latest overseas travel health information, call the Center for Disease Control's traveler's hotline at 404-332-4559. Or visit their web site at www.cdc.gov |
Luggage |
*Gate 1 tour packages allow one piece of luggage per person, plus carry-on bag. Additional baggage will be subject to handling charges of up to $100 per piece. As Gate 1 will not be responsible for loss or damage to luggage and personal belongings, you MUST report any loss or damage immediately at the time of the incident and obtain a written report from the local authority for submission to your insurance provider. If you luggage is lost or damaged by the airlines, a baggage claim form MUST be filed with the carrier before leaving the airport. See www.gate1travel.com/luggage.htm for Important Baggage Information for U.S. Travelers. |

Departure Tax |
| Please see www.gate1travel.com/departure_tax.htm for departure tax information for Egypt. |
Transfer Costs |
| Escorted tour programs include transfers, providing you have purchased airfare from Gate 1 to arrive and depart on the natural scheduled tour dates. Otherwise, if you are traveling independently, you may purchase the transfers from Gate 1 or contract your own method of transportation to the hotel or cruise ship. The cost of a transfer will generally be more expensive than hiring a taxi as the pre-arranged transfer necessarily includes roundtrip service, or a 'dead-leg'. Additionally the driver may have to wait at the collection point for up to an hour. |
Travel Insurance |
| We strongly recommend the purchase of travel insurance as additional security in the case of cancellation or interruption of travel plans, lost or damaged luggage, travel delays, illness, or accident. Keep all boarding passes, ticket copies and receipts for expenses paid during your trip if it later becomes necessary to file a claim. |
