Itinerary

This 7 day "on-the-go" program features the highlights of Peru in an active itinerary which includes several walking tours as well as some early starts and long days.

DAY 1, Monday - Depart the USA, Arrive in Lima
Depart the USA for Peru. Upon arrival in Lima, transfer to your hotel. Balance of the day at leisure.
Overnight: Lima

DAY 2, Tuesday - Lima City Tour
This morning meet with your guide for an orientation. Afterwards, depart for a tour of Lima. Enjoy the sights of Peru's capital city with 2000 years of indigenous and colonial heritage before stopping at the San Francisco Monastery, famous for its 17th century architecture and world-renowned library. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure in the "Gastronomical Capital of the Americas" by exploring Lima's nightlife or sampling some of its many restaurants.

Overnight: Lima

DAY 3, Wednesday - Fly to Cuzco, Afternoon at Leisure
This morning, transfer to the airport for your flight to Cuzco, the ancient capital of the Inca Empire and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Cuzco is declared the Historical Capital by the Constitution of Peru and hosts nearly 1 million visitors every year. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. If time permits there may be a visit to a local school in Cuzco. The balance of the day is at leisure to explore on your own.

DAY 4, Thursday - Full Day Machu Picchu
Early this morning, transfer to the Sacred Valley's Ollanta Station and board the Inca Rail Tourist Train for Machu Picchu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also known as "The Lost City of the Incas", Machu Picchu was built circa 1450 and abandoned only 100 years later. The purpose of this splendid city is still a mystery to modern historians. Spend the day exploring the ancient citadel and marveling at its corridors, ceremonial centers, and terraces. This evening, enjoy dinner at your hotel.

Overnight: Aguas Calientes (Machu Pichu)
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

DAY 5, Friday - Return to Cuzco
This morning, enjoy a little time at leisure before departing Aguas Calientes for your return to Cuzco. Upon arrival in Cuzco, transfer to the hotel. Enjoy the remainder of the evening at leisure.

DAY 6, Saturday - Fly to Lima, Farewell Dinner
This morning transfer to the airport for your flight back to Lima. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. Enjoy one last evening with the group and say goodbye to your Tour Manager at the farewell dinner.

Transfer to the airport for your departure flight.

Today's tour visits what by many is considered the best museum in Lima, the Larco Herrera Museum. Founded in 1926 by the Peruvian archaeologist, Rafael Larco Herrera, the museum is located in an 18th century mansion, built over a 7th century pyramid, and holds one of the world's largest collections of pre-Columbian art. Wander around the museum's amazing collection portraying 5000 years of Andean civilization and be astounded by the museum's prestigious gold and jewelry collection. On your way back to the hotel, enjoy a brief panoramic tour of Pueblo Libre, a small residential district not far from the historical center of Lima. With its traditional houses and plazas, this neighborhood is one of the most representive areas of Lima.

Half Day Highlights of Cuzco Day #3 07 Jan 2013 - 05 Jan 2014 $59

Today's tour starts at the impressive Colonial Cathedral in Cuzco which contains over 400 paintings from the Cusqueña School in addition to an impressive collection of colonial art, including Marcos Zapata's depiction of The Last Supper displaying Cuy, or Guinea Pig, as the main course. Continue on to visit the Temple of the Sun, whose walls and floors were allegedly once covered by sheets of solid gold. This temple was once the most important religious site of the Incas. From here you will travel to Sacsayhuaman, located on the northern slope of Cuzco. This impressive fortress, which consists of individual stones weighing well over 100 tons, took over seven decades to complete and is a prime example of Incan military architecture. Conclude the day at the Kenko amphitheater, a mysterious limestone formation decorated by intricately carved depictions of mythical entities. During the tour, you will have the opportunity to visit a local shop featuring alpaca clothing and accessories, and a local jewelry shop, featuring gold and silver necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings.
