This 7 day "on-the-go" program features the highlights of Peru in an active itinerary which includes several walking tours as well as some early starts and long days.

DAY 1, Friday - Depart for Peru, Fly to Cuzco
Depart for Peru. Your flight includes meals, drinks, and in-flight entertainment for your journey. Early this morning arrive in Lima and connect to your flight to Cuzco with help from a Gate 1 representative. Upon your arrival in Cuzco, meet your tour manager and enjoy a scenic drive to your hotel in the Sacred Valley. The balance of the day is at leisure to rest, relax and acclimate to the altitude. This evening, an informative briefing by your Tour Manager on the fascinating journey in Peru that awaits you, followed by a delightful Welcome Dinner

DAY 2, Saturday - Pisaq Ruins & Market
This morning, drive through the Sacred Valley to view the archaeological remains of the ancient Pisaq comlex. Here the ruins of the ancient city rest on top of a ridge with stunning views and rich with history. Incan architecture still continues to amaze historians - its stone buildings, walls, palaces and turrets were all competed without ever using any type of cement or adhesive. Pisaq not only fulfilled religious and agricultural needs of its residents, it also is believed to have defended the Southern entrance of the Valley. Afterward, on to the energetic street market in Pisaq village, walk along cobble stone streets and see colonial houses and architecture displaying an astonishing array of wares - bargain to your heart's content for Alpaca wool clothing, antiques and handicrafts unique to the area. Stop for lunch at a Pisaq local restaurant before returning to the hotel. Time to relax before tonight's optional traditional Dinner with a Local Peruvian Family in their home - Sample delectable home-cooked Peruvian specialties along with a warm and friendly cultural exchange

DAY 3, Sunday - Full Day Machu Picchu
Early morning transfer to the Sacred Valley's Ollanta Station to board the train** that travels through misty peaks to the astonishing ancient citadel of Machu Picchu, the "Lost City of the Incas", designated by UNESCO as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Machu Picchu was virtually unknown to the western world until Hiram Bingham's re-discovery in 1911. Spend the afternoon viewing the unforgettable wonders of this 15th century retreat, abandoned nearly 100 years later with the arrival of the conquistadors. See the highlights of the site including the imposing Temple of the Sun, the House of the Priest, the Sacred Plaza and the intricately carved rock likely used as a sundial by the ancient Incas. The images of this significant archaeological site will be a long-lasting memory. Return to the Sacred Valley in the evening; transfer to your hotel in Cuzco for overnight

DAY 4, Monday - Cuzco City Tour
Morning at leisure in the ancient capital of the Inca Empire designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take time to explore some of the city's stunning sights or shop for some of the finest handicrafts and textiles in all of Peru. Perhaps, participate in the optional Cuzco "Behind the Scenes" tour, offering a glimpse into the other side of life in Cuzco. On this tour, visit a local market, taste fresh-baked Chuta bread and shop for ingredients to use in this afternoon's cooking lesson. Stop at the Cuzco cemetery to learn more about Andean life and death and meet with a local "shaman" (holy man). After the cooking lesson and demonstration, enjoy your delicious creations. This afternoon's tour of Cuzco begins at the impressive Colonial Cathedral in Cuzco, with its collection of over 400 paintings from the Cusqueña School. Continue to the extraordinary Temple of the Sun at Koricancha, the most important religious site of the Incas. This sumptuous temple's walls and floors were allegedly once covered by sheets of solid gold. This temple was once the most important religious site of the Incas. DAY 5, Tuesday - Full Day in Cuzco
Day at leisure in Cuzco for independent exploration. There is so much to see and to do! Join the optional morning tour to the Ancient Cuzco Ruins, including the massive site of Saqsaywaman and Kenko, a huge rocky complex that resembles a big maze for its zigzagging structures. Then, on to Puca Pacara, "The Red Fortress", used by the Incas to house weapons and provide military support. The tour continues to Tambomachay with its aqueducts, canals and waterfalls used by the Incas as an indulgent spa. Finally, to the picturesque quarter of San Blas, with its charming colonial construction, housing the city's most popular artists. Linger for a while in this area, or return to the hotel. Tonight, investigate the culinary secrets of Andean cuisine at a wide choice of restaurants in Cuzco

DAY 6, Wednesday - Fly to Lima
Morning transfer to the airport for the flight to Lima; upon arrival, tour this captivating city with its 2000 years of history. Begin at the colonial center of Lima, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its historic buildings surrounding the splendid Plaza Mayor. View the impressive Palace of the Archbishop with its fine carved balcony, the opulent Government Palace, official residence of the President, and the 16th century Cathedral of Lima whose first stone was laid by Pizarro. Continue to the 17th century Monasterio de San Francisco complex with its magnificent tiles, ornate carved ceilings, exceptional paintings and world-renowned library. Experience the "new" side of the city in San Isidro and trendy Miraflores, and visit the romantic El Parque del Amor ("The Park of Love"). Tonight, share wonderful memories of your journey in Peru with your new-found friends and Tour Manager at a festive Farewell Dinner

Half Day Cuzco Behind the Scenes

Day #4 06 Jan 2014 - 10 Jan 2016 $49

Today's tour will give you a glimpse into the other side of Cuzco, the oldest continuously inhabited city of the western hemisphere. Start the day with a visit to a local fruit and vegetable market and observe the locals shopping for their daily goods. Try the local chuta bread and enjoy this colorful market where you will experience many new things. Later, head to the local Cuzco cemetery, where you will learn about the Andean understanding of life and see how the locals decorate the graves with gifts and food for their dead. It is traditional belief that the dead eat and drink as they would during life. Following the cemetery, you will have the opportunity to meet with an Andean shaman or healer and witness a real offering to mother earth & the sacred mountain protectors to thank them for this trip. Conclude this incredible morning with a cooking lesson using the items purchased at the local market.
