This 8 day "on-the-go" program features the highlights of Peru in an active itinerary which includes several walking tours as well as some early starts and long days.
DAY 1, Thursday - Depart the USA
Depart the USA for Peru. Your flight includes meals, drinks, and in-flight entertainment for your journey.
DAY 2, Friday - Arrive in Lima and Fly to Cuzco
Early this morning arrive in Lima and connect to your flight to Cuzco with help from a Gate 1 representative. Upon your arrival in Cuzco, meet your tour manager and enjoy a scenic drive to your hotel in the Sacred Valley. The balance of the day is at leisure. This evening, enjoy an orientation meeting with your tour escort, followed by a welcome dinner.

DAY 3, Saturday - Pisaq Ruins & Market
This morning, drive through the Sacred Valley to the ancient Inca city of Pisaq. Here the ruins of the ancient city rest on top of a ridge with stunning views and rich with history. Pisaq not only fulfilled religious and agricultural needs of its residents, it also is believed to have defended the Southern entrance of the Valley. Afterward, head back to the village to experience the Pisaq Market, a large craft market. Here, you can walk on cobbled stone streets, see colonial houses or purchase local wares.

DAY 4, Sunday - Full Day Machu Picchu
Early the morning, transfer to the Sacred Valley's Ollanta Station and board the Expedition Train for Machu Picchu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spend the afternoon viewing the ancient citadel before boarding the train for your return to the Sacred Valley's Ollanta Station in the evening. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel in Cuzco.

DAY 5, Monday - Cuzco City Tour
Enjoy this morning at leisure. In the afternoon, depart for a tour of Cuzco. View the impressive Colonial Cathedral, which contains over 400 paintings from the Cusqueña School in addition to colonial art. Continue on to visit the Korikancha, the Temple of the Sun, whose walls and floors were allegedly once covered by sheets of solid gold. This temple was once the most important religious site of the Incas. This evening head to a local restaurant to enjoy a Peruvian buffet dinner along with folk music and traditional Peruvian dancing.

DAY 6, Tuesday - Full Day in Cuzco
Spend today at leisure in "The Imperial City". Take time to sightsee or shop independently. Cuzco is declared the Historical Capital by the Constitution of Peru and hosts nearly 1 million visitors every year. Visit some of the numerous Inca monuments or investigate the culinary secrets of Andean cuisine.

DAY 7, Wednesday - Fly to Lima
This morning transfer to the airport in Cuzco for your flight back to Lima. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. Afterward, depart for a tour of Lima. Enjoy the sights of Peru's capital city with 2000 years of indigenous and colonial heritage. You'll be able to see the Basilica Cathedral of Lima a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Archbishop's Palace and Lima's Main Square which boasts over 1,600 overlooking balconies. Although there is a significant presence of history and tradition within the city, you will also be able to experience the modern side of the city visiting San Isidro and Miraflores where you can visit El Parque del Amor or “The Park of Love”. Tonight, enjoy a farewell dinner.

DAY 8, Thursday - Depart for the USA
Transfer from the hotel to the airport for your departure flight.

Today's tour will give you a glimpse into the other side of Cuzco, the oldest continuously inhabited city of the western hemisphere. Start the day with a visit to a local fruit and vegetable market and observe the locals shopping for their daily goods. Try the local chuta bread and enjoy this colorful market where you will experience many new things. Later, head to the local Cuzco cemetery, where you will learn about the Andean understanding of life and see how the locals decorate the graves with gifts and food for their dead. It is traditional belief that the dead eat and drink as they would during life. Following the cemetery, you will have the opportunity to meet with an Andean shaman or healer and witness a real offering to mother earth & the sacred mountain protectors to thank them for this trip. Conclude this incredible morning with a cooking lesson using the items purchased at the local market. |

This morning, explore numerous Inca ruins that all served unique purposes. First head to Saqsaywaman, an enormous Inca site that overlooks Cuzco and the Sacred Valley. Here observe precision masonry of the massive stones that fit perfectly within one another without requiring any mortar to remain standing walls. Continue on to Kenko and navigate through the engraved passages and canals of this once active worship site. From Kenko proceed to Puca Pacara, “The Red Fortress”, used by the Incas not only as a control station and look-out, but also used to house weapons and provide military support. Continue on to Tambomachay and discover the many aqueducts, canals and also waterfalls used by the Incas as an indulgent spa. Finally, round out the morning on one of the most picturesque quarters in Cuzco, San Blas. Known as the Craftsmen’s District, it houses the city's most important and popular artists. Its Colonial constructions built along its narrow, steep streets contribute to the charm of the area. |
