The scenic drive takes you through historic and picturesque towns like the culinary boomtown of Yountville, known for the famed French Laundry Restaurant, and the spa town of Calistoga Hot Springs, home to the legendary Old Faithful Geyser. Stop along the way at prestigious wineries and restaurants before your descent into the wine country with its spectacular views. Arrive at the hotel of your choice. Tonight, we suggest you experience some of the area’s fine cuisine coupled with excellent California wine

A full day to enjoy all of the delights of this area. There are so many winery tours and wine tastings to choose from -- and so much to do. Now a food lover’s paradise, the area restaurants have introduced diverse tasting menus in all price ranges. Wander through the streets of Napa, the area’s oldest town, or visit the historic attractions in Sonoma, rich with 19th century buildings. There is time to discover the many boutiques, gift shops, antique stores, galleries and the many seasonal farmers’ markets. The region is also known for its natural beauty with many outdoor activities such as canoeing on the Russian River, hiking along the rural roads, horseback riding, or bicycling along the scenic trails. In the evening, after a world-class dinner, delight in a performance at the Napa Opera House or take in some jazz and enjoy the lively downtown nightlife

DAY 3, Tuesday - Drive to Lake Tahoe
Depart the Napa or Sonoma Valley to stunning Lake Tahoe, the high Sierra paradise; it is the largest alpine lake in North America. En route, consider a stop in Sacramento, capital of the state and the oldest city in California founded during the famous Gold Rush era. Arrive in cobalt-blue Lake Tahoe, located in the northern section of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, the Lake Tahoe area covers portions of five national forests, several state parks and rugged wilderness areas, straddling California and Nevada. In the winter, it is the mecca of skiing for the area; in summer, water sports, camping and hiking are the major activities. In the evening, if you want to go to the casino to gamble or enjoy some lavish shows, drive a short distance to Reno, known as the “Biggest Little City in the World”

Then, continue the drive to stunning Monterey on the Monterey Peninsula with its extraordinary coastline and wind swept beaches. Time permitting, stop along the way to see the Old Mission San Juan Bautista, in a historic park surrounded by 18th and 19th century buildings. Arrive at your hotel in Monterey

Monterey is a great place to unwind, relax and have fun. Browse in unique shops, galleries or ride on a giant roller coaster. The region has fantastic state parks, beaches and picturesque trails for walking, jogging, hiking or biking. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is one of the most respected aquariums in the world showcasing over 200 uniquely designed marine exhibits and petting pools. Stop by Cannery Row, made famous by John Steinbeck in his novel about working people in the sardine canneries; today the area has been converted into restaurants, galleries and shops.
