During Ramadan (Mar 22 - Apr 21, 2023), historic and cultural sites may close early and operate with minimal staff. The order of sightseeing may be changed to accommodate the holiday observance. Many hotels, restaurants, and bars may not serve alcoholic beverages and some local restaurants may not be open. Entertainment may be limited to be respectful of the holiday observance. Modest dress is suggested during Ramadan (no shorts, short skirts, or sleeveless tops). Use discretion when drinking, eating, and smoking in public between sunrise and sunset.
Passengers traveling abroad require a passport valid for six months beyond their travel dates. All travelers are responsible to check if a visa is required for all countries on their itinerary. For visa information, check our Visas page.

Know Before You Go
Although most of the planning and preparation is taken care of for you, there are still a few things you should know and some details you should take care of to ensure your comfort, safety and peace of mind. Please review the following information before your departure to ensure that any surprises along the way will only be pleasant ones.
Getting Ready to Go
Passports and Visas
|It is each traveler's responsibility to have a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the dates of travel and a visa if required. Please check the information at www.gate1travel.com/visas.aspx for the specific country/region you are visiting for more details. IMPORTANT: Passengers who are not U.S. citizens must check with the respective consulate or a visa agency to determine what personal identification is required. Passengers who enter, leave and then re-enter the same country on their itinerary should check if they require a double-entry visa. Passport applications are available at most U.S. Post Offices, as well as at regional Passport Agencies. Passengers requiring visas, whether obtained in advance or locally upon arrival, should ensure that their passport has blank pages.
Traveling with Friends or Family?
If you are traveling with friends or family who are booked on another reservation, please make sure that we are aware. On occasion, we may operate more than one vehicle on your tour departure in which case we will ensure that guests will be assigned together. This is achieved by connecting your reservations before your departure. Once you arrive in your destination, it may not be possible to make assignment changes. To check that your reservations are linked, log into https://www.gate1travel.com/res with your email and password, select your reservation number, and check to see that your reservations are indicated as "Traveling With" at the top right side of the display.
A little pre-planning can make your trip go a lot smoother. Several weeks before your trip, make a list of what you will need to take with you. Make sure your personal documents (passports, visas, driver's license) are in order. Make sure also that you have enough prescription medications to last through the trip and carry them with you in case your luggage is delayed. Bring a change of clothes in your carry-on bag in the event that your luggage is delayed or lost. Lost luggage is common. We strongly urge you to consider carry-ons instead of checked bags when possible, and when checking a bag is necessary, choose a bag color and identification that stands out. We suggest that you make photocopies of passports, visas, personal ID and any other important travel documents and pack them separately from the originals. You may also make a digital copy of your passport to keep a clear picture with the important details in your cell phone or digital camera photos. If you lose the originals while traveling, you'll have copies for easier reporting and replacement. Pack a list of medications including dosage and generic names. You may consider bringing a small supply of over the counter medications for headaches and/or anti-diarrhea pills (especially when traveling outside of the USA and Western Europe). We recommend that you pack a portable alarm clock. Due to security reasons, many museums have restrictions on the size of bags that can be taken inside and backpacks, carry-on bags or large purses may not be permitted. It is recommended to bring a small shoulder bag or purse to use in these situations instead. Avoid placing valuables such as cameras in your checked luggage. Airplane pressure can cause similar pressure in your body, most notably in ears, as well as liquid tubes and bottles. Your physician can suggest medication for decongestion. We suggest that you place liquid containers into Ziploc bags to catch any leaks.
Travel Safety Advice: The safety of our guests is Gate 1’s #1 concern. Before making the decision to reserve your vacation, we want you to be aware of potential situations which may impact your holiday. While most of the time our programs run precisely according to plans, on rare occasion force majeure events including weather, transportation mechanical issues, or uninhabitable accommodation, civil unrest and even criminal or terrorist activities will present themselves unexpectedly and with little or no notice. Gate 1 will make the decision to cancel a tour only after receiving verifiable government issued information. We are otherwise obliged to comply with contractual airline and vendor agreements and carry out the tour until or unless we are advised otherwise. In the event of such an occurrence anytime after your date of departure, Gate 1 and the local destination ground staff, in coordination with government advisories, airlines, hotels, cruise ships and other vendors, will make decisions with regard to your safety first. We strongly recommend that tour participants review the destination country's specific information at https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/alertswarnings.html.
Even the best-planned trips can be impacted by the unexpected. And that is why we recommend that you help protect yourself and your investment by purchasing Travel Protection for your Gate 1 trip. Travel Protection can help with medical coverage for illness or injury, trip cancellation and/or interruption, baggage loss, medical evacuation, and more. At any time before you complete Final Payment, you may choose to purchase Travel Protection. The protection plan premium is non-refundable after a 10-day review period. In addition, you must be medically able to travel at the time the premium is paid. For a summary of the plan details on coverages, benefits, limitations and exclusions, please refer to the Description of Coverage by visiting www.gate1travel.com/insurance/.
Cancel for Any Reason Waiver Benefit (CFAR) is a non-insurance feature that allows you to cancel up to 72 hours before your scheduled departure for any reason not otherwise covered in the Travel Protection Plan. CFAR must be purchased at the same time as the Travel Protection Plan as well as within 21 days of the original booking date. Independent or escorted tour reservations will be eligible for a future travel credit equal to the full cost of your trip, less the cost of initial deposit, airline-assessed fees, amendment fees, and insurance premium. Sea or river cruise reservations will be eligible for a future travel credit equal to 50% of the cost of your trip, less the cost of initial trip deposit, airline-assessed fees, amendment fees, and insurance premium. All CFAR credits are valid for a period of two years from the original date of travel. CFAR Credits have no cash value and are not transferrable. Airline-assessed fees are generally $300 per person, but may be as much as fully non-refundable. Some non-refundable airline tickets may retain value, less airline-assessed fees. Your future air credit must be used to book with the same airline. Deadlines to rebook and complete travel vary by airline and may be as early as 12 months from when the tickets were originally issued (not the date of travel). For details, www.gate1travel.com/insurance/.
This program does not apply to custom groups and Antarctica cruises. Residents of New York, Missouri & Minnesota may purchase this Cancel for Any Reason Waiver Benefit separate from Travel Protection. Call to speak with a reservation agent for details. This Cancel for any Reason Wavier Benefit is not insurance and is provided by Gate 1 Travel.
Mobile networks differ from country to country. We recommend you check with your provider to see if your wireless plan will work in the destination(s) you are visiting. To avoid possible roaming charges, you may want to consider purchasing an international plan. With most major phone companies, for a modest fee, you will be able to use your domestic plan's talk, text, and data allowances just like you do at home. If you can access the internet while you travel, you can also take advantage of services such as WhatsApp or Skype.
Making Telephone Calls from One Country to Another
When dialing a number from one country to another, you should proceed as follows: dial your country's Exit Code (often indicated with a “+” sign), then the destination Country Code, then the Phone Number. For most countries, the exit code is 00. Exceptions include the USA and Canada (011), Hong Kong and Cambodia (001), Australia (0011), and Russia (8 Pause 10*). For Brazil, please consult with the local telephone company. If you are dialing from a mobile phone, you can enter a “+” instead of the international Exit Code (011, 001, 0011 or 00) by pressing and holding the 0 key. For most countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, South America and South Pacific, if you are calling from a local phone to a number within the same country, you should drop both the exit and country codes and then add a leading 0 (zero). Exceptions include Spain, Italy, Hungary and Malta (no additional zero needed to dial locally).
To dial the following number in Germany (as listed on your voucher): +(49) 0555-555
From USA or your US cell phone: 011-49-555-555
From another country in Europe: 00-49-555-555
From a German phone within Germany: 0555-555
WiFi is available in most airports, hotels, and cruise lines, as well as on some flights, trains, and buses. There may be a fee for access and service quality and speed may vary greatly especially while on moving vehicles. Availability on cruises is also dependent upon its location while sailing through multiple countries. Please note that WiFi can be extremely slow, unreliable, and sometimes nonexistent in developing countries.
Staying Healthy While Traveling
All travelers should familiarize themselves with local conditions, such as high altitude or required immunizations, which could affect their health. We recommend you consult with your personal healthcare provider, the Centers for Disease Control (www.cdc.gov) and/or the World Health Organization (http://www.who.int/en/) for their recommendations.
There are several easy steps you can take to stay healthy while traveling which may help prevent contracting an illness while away from home.
|Notice on Aircraft Cabin Insecticide Treatment - Please note that some countries may require aircraft cabin insecticide treatment for in-bound foreign flights. A list of such countries is available at:
Consideration for Tour Participants (Escorted Tours)
For the benefit of all tour participants, we ask tour members to be considerate of their fellow travelers in the following ways: |
Climate & Clothing
Morocco - Spring and Autumn: 55-75°F; Summer: 65-95°F; Winter: 45-65°F. Bring comfortable walking shoes, a sweater, clothes you can layer and an all-weather jacket. Some religious sites may require modest dress to enter (no shorts, short skirts, or sleeveless tops). In summer, bring a hat and sunscreen.
Morocco Average Temperatures: https://www.gate1travel.com/weather/mediterranean/default.aspx#morocco-weather
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) or “drone” technology has quickly become affordable and is increasingly popular with recreational users. While some countries have clear, established drone laws, others do not, or existing regulations are undergoing review and change. Travelers who wish to bring a drone on their trip are responsible to research and abide by the laws and regulations of the countries they are visiting, as well as to check with their airline(s) regarding their rules for transporting drones. Please note that tours are unable to extend the length of scheduled visits and stops to accommodate use of drones.
Preparing for Your Trip
As a courtesy service, complimentary airline seat assignments are requested on your behalf and, when available, are displayed in order of Passenger #1, #2 and so on. Assignments reflect the best available seats at the time of booking. Some airlines and/or fare types do not allow for pre-seating and require this be done at airport check-in only; in which case the display shows “N/A”. Seats are subject to change by your airline(s) including, for example, when there is a schedule change or equipment change after your initial booking; this may cause seat assignments to be changed or even cancelled. Some airlines offer preferred seating for an additional fee; these seats may only be purchased directly from the airline. You will need your family name and the 6-digit airline “Record Locator” which is displayed with the flight details on your reservation. In the event that you change seat assignments directly with your airline, changes will not be reflected on your invoice or documents. At the time that Gate 1 travel documents are issued, the currently assigned seats will be listed based on the assignments stored in your airline reservation at that time. Should you have questions regarding your assignments, please write to us at www.gate1travel.com/contactus.
Luggage & Packing
Checked bags are typically limited to a total dimension of 62 inches by adding length + width + height (example: 26"+26"+10" = 62”), and a maximum weight of 50 lbs (23kg). Smart Bags with a USB charging port, GPS tracking device and other high-tech features are prohibited as checked or carry-on baggage unless the bag is made with removable batteries and the batteries are removed and stored separately. Many airlines charge for checked bags including flights which begin and end within the USA. The most inexpensive airfare options commonly known as Basic Economy airfares do not include any checked bags nor seat assignments before the day of departure. However, for some airlines, other airfare categories also do not include checked baggage. This will be clearly displayed in our airfare selection and on your invoice. Where available, we highly recommend selecting airfares which include at least 1 piece of checked baggage. Gate 1 Travel is not responsible for checked bag fees, excess luggage or weight charges levied by an airline. Checked baggage allowances displayed on reservation details and invoices reflect the applicable allowance at the time of booking but are subject to change by your airline(s). For your airline’s requirements and fees, visit www.gate1travel.com/baggagefees.aspx. For important baggage information, visit www.gate1travel.com/luggage.aspx. Avoid placing valuables in your checked luggage. Federal law forbids the carriage of hazardous materials aboard the aircraft in your luggage, your carry-on or on your person. A violation can result in five years’ imprisonment and penalties of $250,000 or more (49 U.S.C. 5124). Hazardous materials include explosives, compressed gases, flammable liquids and solids, oxidizers, poisons, corrosives and radioactive materials. Examples: Paints, lighter fluid, fireworks, tear gases, oxygen bottles, and radio-pharmaceuticals. There are special exceptions for small quantities (up to 70 ounces total) of medicinal and toilet articles carried in your luggage and certain smoking materials carried on your person. Check the Transportation and Safety Administration (TSA) website www.tsa.gov to find out the current list of acceptable items you may bring on a plane before packing. We recommend that you use brightly colored luggage tags, straps or other identifiers to help you locate you luggage upon arrival or to describe it in the event that it is lost.
Day of Departure
What to do if You Need Assistance
Whether you purchased your airfare from Gate 1 Travel or from the airline directly, please bear in mind that Gate 1 Travel does not own nor operate the airline(s), nor the airport facilities where they operate. At times, flying can be a frustrating experience, especially when things do not go exactly as planned, and airline explanations can be confusing or even misleading. Should you face a problem, remain calm and seek assistance either from the airline directly or from Gate 1. Please be aware that in most cases, on the day of your flight(s), airlines pass responsibility for your reservation to their staff at the airport and it is not always possible for Gate 1 Travel to intervene on your behalf, either through our reservations system or directly with your airline.
Arrival & Departure
Upon arrival, please complete immigration formalities if necessary and claim your luggage. If your program includes airport arrival transfers, check your voucher for specific instructions, as they vary with every destination. In most cases, you will be met after collecting your luggage or passing through Customs by the local representative who will be holding a Gate 1 Travel sign and/or a sign with your name on it. In some instances you will be instructed to walk a short distance to a transportation counter. The company's name and location will be printed on your voucher. If for any reason you do not connect with the Gate 1 transfer personnel, go to the Tourist Information Desk and ask them to page the Gate 1 Travel representative or phone the number on your voucher. Be wary of airport scammers who offer unwanted assistance. If you are delayed due to lost luggage, phone the number on the voucher or have a companion exit the Customs Area to advise the transfer representative.
What To Do When Your Flight Is Delayed
Airlines do not share flight manifest information. Therefore, the only way we may learn of a delay or schedule change while you are traveling is from you, the traveler. The sooner you are able to contact one of our offices, the better we can respond. Please refer to the Emergency Assistance instructions on this same document. Gate 1 Travel is only able to guarantee pre-reserved arrival transfers for up to one hour from the scheduled time, no matter the cause. In case you are delayed for any reason, and are unable to follow the instructions on your voucher, please make independent transfer arrangements and retain your receipts. Unused tour services, including transfers and hotel nights are not refundable. Upon you return home you will need to contact your airline and/or insurance carrier to investigate the possibility of reimbursement for any unused tour services.
If your program includes departure transfers, instructions will be stated on your voucher or provided locally.
Due to local traffic and other extenuating circumstances, we ask that you allow 30 minutes from your scheduled transfer time for our representative to arrive. This includes hotel, airport and cruise transfers. Such possible delays are taken into consideration in scheduling transfers and you should therefore have no concerns about arriving late for your tour, flight or cruise. For transfers from a hotel, let the hotel reception desk or concierge know that you are waiting for a transfer. In the case of a missed transfer, reimbursement for your out-of-pocket expenses will be considered provided you obtain a written statement from the hotel's front desk verifying the length of time you waited, and the time you left the hotel, and a receipt for your transportation with time and date.
The cost of a transfer is more expensive than hiring a taxi, as a Gate 1 transfer necessarily includes round trip service, or 'dead-leg'. Often the places of call (airports, seaports, hotels) demand entrance and parking fees, where drivers may have to wait for up to an hour. Passengers comfortable hiring a taxi on their own and do not require assistance will save money.
About Your Accommodations
Gate 1 Travel has carefully selected each hotel based on overall quality, location, price, food, service, and cleanliness. All rooms are standard twin-bedded (two single beds) rooms with private facilities. Special requests such as bed types, smoking preference and connecting rooms are subject to availability. Room selection in all cases, unless otherwise reserved, is strictly at the discretion of the hotel's management on a run-of-house basis. Triple rooms consist of standard twin beds or one double bed plus a sofa/folding bed or cot for third person except in the U.S. and Canada, where triple rooms often consist of two double/queen beds for three persons; where available, a fee may be charged by the hotel for the addition of a cot/rollaway. The number of persons accommodated does not dictate the room size. Although available at most 4 and 5 star hotels, the use of air-conditioning abroad differs greatly from the United States, and is often shut down at night and from the end until the start of the summer months. Some lodges and accommodations in remote regions may not have all of the amenities, such as hairdryer, alarm clock and room service, that you might find in a larger hotel located in a city center.
Hotel Check-in/ Check-out
Hotel check-in time is generally not before 4:00 p.m. and check-out time is prior to noon. If you will be arriving early in the day or departing in the evening, hotels will usually allow you to store your luggage in their luggage room. Ask at the front desk if the hotel can check you in earlier, or let you stay later.
Morocco Hotels - Some accommodations may not have all of the amenities, such as hairdryer and wide array of toiletries. In order to conserve energy, several hotels run the water heater only at night, thus making hot water consumption challenging later in the day. Complaints regarding a hotel's standards or amenities should be addressed directly with the hotel's management. Refunds are not normally considered by hotels if they were not given an opportunity to address those complaints locally.
At Your Destination
Eco & Sustainable Tourism
We support global efforts to create a more eco-friendly world, intolerant of any forms of cruelty, abuse and intentional environmental destruction. To that end we ask that our clients maintain a watchful eye as they travel, and report any abuses they may encounter. One of the many benefits of tourism is the shared cultural knowledge and ultimate elimination of negative behavior through education. We rely on your good feedback to enable this element of symbiosis. As you travel and learn about foreign cultures, we ask first and foremost that you practice tolerance and respect for local customs.
Tipping is always a matter of personal discretion. For your convenience, please use the summary below as a guideline for recommended gratuity amounts. Gratuities may be paid in local currency or US dollar equivalent where accepted. Please be aware that tipping is considered by many locals to be a part of their normal remuneration and some may approach you for additional "compensation." There is no need to be intimidated by the request, nor should you feel pressured to pay more than recommended. If you become uncomfortable by any behavior you encounter, please advise your tour manager or phone our local office. Numbers are provided in your documents for your convenience.
Suggested Tipping: Morocco
Tour Manager (Coordinator; may or may not act as a guide): US $10 per person per day
Driver (Provides chauffeur services and limited assistance with luggage): US $4 per person per day, US $2 per half day
Driver Helper (Provides assistance to driver and with luggage): US $1 per person per day or half day
Local Guide (Offers in-depth information at specific locations. There may be one or many guides along a tour program): US $5 per person per day of sightseeing, US $3 per half day
Hotel porters and wait staff: Included
Morocco - It is customary to tip in restaurants and other places that cater to tourists.
About Your Sightseeing
To ensure a pleasant and fair experience for passengers on our escorted tours, there is a mandatory seat rotation policy on our motor coaches which will be organized by your Tour Manager. On river cruises, color-coded group splits may be used for shoreside included and Optional tours. Some buses are equipped with toilet facility, however they are strictly intended for emergency use only and often require the vehicle to stop for safety reasons before use. When travel dates coincide with religious holidays and national celebrations, some monuments and sites may be closed, sometimes without prior notice. On these occasions, escorted touring itineraries may be amended to reflect these closures. Occasionally, during holidays and certain periods, and/or due to other unforeseen circumstances including weather conditions, there may be last-minute changes, sometimes after arrival, which may affect the sequence of the tour and locations visited. National monuments and tourist sites regularly undergo renovations, which can obscure the monument's view. No tour will be canceled due to renovations, however Gate 1 will decide based on the conditions whether to amend an itinerary. To respect the privacy of all tour participants, your tour manager will not organize a group photo or collect passenger email addresses for a group list.
Please be advised that bathroom facilities at comfort stops or restaurants do not always provide toilet paper. We recommend keeping extra tissues or toilet paper with you throughout the tour.
Land Only Passengers (Escorted Tours)
Your tour manager will contact you after your arrival at your hotel. Passengers who have not purchased arrival transfers from Gate 1 Travel should proceed directly to the hotel for check-in. The details of the hotel can be found in your documents.
Purchasing Tours Locally
On escorted tours, the guides will generally sell optional tours to passengers who have not pre-purchased them. Payment can be made by cash or credit card, unless otherwise noted below. This does not apply to Independent packages. Please see Gate 1 Terms & Conditions for more information. https://www.gate1travel.com/terms.aspx#optional
Independent Activities - Gate 1 itineraries may contain suggestions for activities for your leisure time; these suggestions do not constitute a recommendation nor an endorsement of any specific service provider and the decision to participate in any such activities should be made independently and with due consideration. Gate 1 is not responsible for any activities not expressly included in its programs. Caution should be exercised when selecting certain activities that may require physical strength, coordination or exertion. Particular care should be taken when considering animal rides, such as on camels, mules or horses
Morocco - The Moroccan Dirham is the currency of Morocco.
Please be aware that ATMs are mainly found in banks in major cities. However, not all machines accept all cards. Hotels do not usually have ATMs. When traveling to southern regions of the country including Ouarzazate and Zagora, ensure that you have sufficient cash on hand, as ATMs will not be available. It is recommended to carry cash in small denominations in local currency or in US $1 bills to make tipping and minor expenses easier. It is recommended to carry new or like new banknotes as older, torn or poor condition notes may not be accepted locally. If choosing to use a foreign currency exchange counter at the Casablanca airport upon arrival, it is recommended to wait until you have cleared customs. The exchange office near baggage claim may apply less favorable exchange rates and fees than those located just outside of customs. Exchange counters may encourage travelers to convert currency to debit cards rather than paper bills, however these cards are not accepted everywhere. It is recommended to convert to paper currency which is accepted everywhere as well as easily convertible back to USD for any unused currency.
Most people enjoy bringing home at least one souvenir from the countries they visit. However, some find any amount of shopping to be too much while others never find enough opportunities.
We have built into our Escorted itineraries a few shopping stops at recommended spots. These stops are designed to enhance your experience by providing an opportunity to see first-hand quality locally crafted merchandise which you may not be able to find on your own. Shops are checked to ensure the quality and authenticity of the products they offer, and we limit guides from visiting other locations. In some cases, we plan these stops to provide an opportunity to use clean bathrooms and to stretch your legs. All shops want your satisfaction, and therefore in case of any misunderstanding they ask that you kindly submit your claim to us within one week of the item's receipt. Claims submitted later will be subject to each store’s policies.
While shopping independently, we advise you to exercise care and common sense when making any purchase. Always get a formal receipt. And remember that, just like in this country, if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is!
About Tax-Free Shopping
Tax-Free Shopping allows shoppers to reclaim the VAT (Value-Added Tax) or GST (Goods and Services Tax) they have paid on their purchases in some foreign countries in accordance with restrictions and procedures as dictated by each country. Refund eligibility varies by country, but may require presenting a scanned copy of your passport at the time of purchase, a minimum amount spent, or providing original store receipts. For more details, check the respective country’s online website, with the shop salesperson, with your tour manager or at www.globalblue.com for specific country regulations and airport operation hours. Please keep in mind that you must apply for VAT refund in the airport of the country the items were purchased and allow enough time prior to your flight for the application.
U.S. Customs & Shipping Charges
You may carry items with a fair retail value totaling $800 into the U.S. Taxes may be applied to the next $1,000 worth of merchandise. U.S. Customs determines the value of your items, often honoring a genuine sales receipt. Items which are shipped home are always subject to duty when received in the U.S. (in addition to shipping charges). Some shops may offer to include shipping and duties in the price but this typically means shipping only to the customs facility closest to you and payment only of the export duties; you would still need to collect the item and pay U.S. import duties. Please be aware that it is illegal to import products made from endangered animal species. U.S. Customs & Border Protection will seize these items, as well as most furs, coral, tortoise shell, reptile skins, feathers, plants, and items made from animal skins.
Morocco - Shopping is an experience in itself in Morocco, with vibrant souks, markets, and bazaars staffed by vendors hawking their wares. In cities, the Medina districts offers a glimpse into daily life, as well as an assortment of interesting goods, ranging from hand-tanned leather products to fine carpets and pottery. Local vendors can be aggressive and at times even intimidating. Haggling is expected. One bargaining trick is to find a fixed-price store to get a better sense of what a reasonable price for the item of interest would be.
Credit Cards may be accepted at large stores. Vendors in souks and medinas will likely only accept cash.
Your Safety is Very Important
Prior to your trip, if you are traveling overseas, we strongly recommend that you visit the website of the U.S. Department of State at www.travel.state.gov, specifically the section which addresses International Travel. You should read the tips for foreign travel and travel warnings for the country or countries that you plan to visit. |
It is also important that you do not allow your common sense to take a vacation while on your trip. Here are several tips which, if followed, will save much potential hardship:
If you've purchased an escorted tour program, your travel documents will include telephone numbers of local Gate 1 Travel representatives who will do their utmost to assist you in the event of an emergency. The numbers are printed on your Gate 1 Travel vouchers. Please copy the numbers. Once you relinquish the voucher, you will not have this information. Passengers traveling independently should employ the services of hotel concierges and local authorities.
Tourist Street Scams
Pickpockets and thieves can destroy an otherwise wonderful holiday. Be mindful of these precautions to help avoid being scammed or robbed: |
Local Emergency Phone Numbers
Morocco - Arabic is the local language. French is taught and used universally for commerce. Spanish is spoken in some northern regions.
Please note: The U.S. uses 120 volts and you can purchase a converter and transformer at most hardware stores for your 120V appliances.
Morocco - The voltage used is 220 volts.
Code of Conduct
Morocco - Morocco is an Islamic country. Shaking hands is a standard form of greeting. Normal courtesies should be observed. Casual dress is acceptable, but women should take care to dress modestly. Beachwear should be confined to the beach and poolside. While freedom to practice one's religion is guaranteed and non-Muslims are not harassed, proselytizing is prohibited and even a discussion of religion in public may violate this restriction. Smoking is very common.
Meals & Dietary Requests
Included meals are based on the restaurant's buffet or set menu. Beverages are not included, unless specifically stated. Although special diets like Vegetarian and Vegan are relatively commonplace in the USA, much of the world's menu options are more provincial. Please do not expect to find the variety of food selection outside of the local norm. Every effort will be made to honor special dietary requests selected no later than 5 days prior to departure in the passenger details section of your reservation. In addition, we recommend that you make preferences known to your tour manager upon arrival, and at each hotel/restaurant. Special requests are subject to local conditions and availability and cannot be guaranteed.
Morocco - While it is generally safe to eat fully cooked meats and vegetables, care should be taken to avoid undercooked meat and uncooked fruits and vegetables. Because tap water is not potable, visitors should only drink bottled water or water that has been boiled and filtered. Avoid ice, as it is usually made from tap water.
Mineral water is provided with dinners on escorted tours.
On public holidays, there may be reduced public transportation, as well as limited hours or closures of attractions, shops and restaurants.

This was our fourth trip with Gate1. Starting from the time we were met at the airport to the time we were taken back to the airport, each one has always been amazing. This year, my daughter and I went to Morocco during September 2-9, 2023, and it was outstanding. Our tour manager, Mohamed was the best. He treated everyone like family and responded to any of our needs, which was not easy because we were a group of 40 travelers. He made us feel safe. The hotels and meals at each of the locations were wonderful. They even provided real telephone wake-up service, not automated ones. As for the sightseeing itinerary, it's hard to pick one as our favorite. Everything was so beautiful. Everyone absolutely loved the hosted-diner at a family's home. We were graciously welcomed into their home. The full-course dinner was so delicious. We hope that this event continues for future trips. As for the historical activities, they were so educational. And, regarding the optional camel tour, even people who did not originally sign up to go, rode them. It was wonderful! The guys were so helpful and accommodating. Everything was phenomenal. My daughter and I even added a Hamman/massage experience, visited a shopping mall, and rode a horse-drawn carriage to make our trip complete. We met lots of new friends, and we're already planning next year's trip to Brazil and Argentina.Deborah B.
Outstanding! Our guide Ali was absolutely amazing, well informed, kind and considerate. A consummate gentleman... Our travel group members were all wonderful people that, were a diverse group of travelers who were very welcoming and friendly.Kenneth B.
We had a wonderful trip through Gate 1 Travel. From the airport, we were picked up by the Travel Guide, Ibrahim to our hotel. His presentations were very informative and knowledgeable throughout our tour. Our breakfast were great splashes and we enjoyed the variety at the different hotels. Our lunch and dinners were also very good. We had a great driver and the tours were great, but most of all our Travel Guide was excellent. He took great care of coordinating and the safety of the passengers. Our flights were great with Air France and we will not hesitate to use Gate1 Travel againEdna B.
My first experience with Gate 1 travel was perfection. My parents had used Gate 1 three years prior to this trip, and they told me what to expect. This went beyond my expectations. I don't have one bad thing to say about my 18 days of adventures! My tour guide, Khalid K. went above and beyond his duties as a guide. He is passionate about his career, as well as being proud of his country, as he should be. He is also very informative about everywhere we stopped and visited, as well as passing by on the bus. He spoke English, French and Arabic, so nobody was left out. I also expanded my Arabic vocabulary, thanks to him. He was actually the same tour guide 3 years ago when my Mom, Dad and Sister booked with Gate 1, and he recognized my Dad immediately. Khaled also helped me find my missing item, which he didn't have to do. He also helped me find jewelry which was quite difficult to find, again, not in his job description. On the trip, he called us his family, and he treated us as his family. Khalid is a rare jewel, and Gate 1 is very fortunate indeed to have him as part of this fantastic team. I will tell everyone I know about Gate 1. Thank you so very much for memories that will last a lifetime. P.S. I was also witness to other people raving about Khalid, some with tears of joy in their eyes. Thank you again, Gate 1.Elizabeth F.
This was our first Gate1 tour and it exceeded our expectations. Our accommodations were all first class and our tour manager, Khalid, was exceptional. His knowledge of the Moroccan history and culture really enriched our tour.Joan B.
The 14 day Morocco tour ,May 10.24.2023, 1was splendid! Hicham ,our tour guide, was so knowledgeable, professional, very efficient, approachable, kind, friendly and personable. I told him that he was our Guardian "Malik" ( angel ) and Shepherd. He always made sure that we were all safe as we walked and walked in all the beautiful places that we visited. He checked on all of us that we get our food everywhere we ate. He is my other favorite tour guide. ( Omar, from Jordan is the other one ) ! I was truly impressed by the people in Morocco. They were not only beautiful / handsome, but were also kind, hospitable, courteous and friendly ! I enjoyed everywhere we went, esp. the hot air balloon ride, the camel ride, the Jardin , Tinghir ( my favorite ), the cooking lesson and the family- hosted dinner given by Leila.Eugenia P.
Our 15 day Moroccan Allure journey led by Chaouqi was excellent! Chaouqi always made sure that our expectations were exceeded and customized. Every local guide was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and was always willing to go the extra mile. In addition, Chaouqi was always there to recommend restaurants, additional sights to see and guided us to the best places to make purchases. All the hotels were authentic and reflected the local color. The only downside was not enough lighting in the bathrooms. We would definitely recommend Chaouqi and Gate 1 to anyone who wants to visit Morocco. And also to take the optional Hot Air Balloon ride as well. Getting up at 4:30 am was tough, but was worth it ! In addition- for any golfers on the trip - we played 9 holes at The Royal Golf de Marrakesh! Thank you for putting together such a wonderful trip! This was our 6th adventure with Gate 1 and it won't be our last.Susan S.
May I just say that it was magnificent! This was my first time with Gate1 and I am impressed by how organized and personable all the guides were. No matter where we went, we were tended to in the calmest, polite, and respectable manner. Mohammad, our main guide was so knowledgeable, protective, and patient. I enjoyed each city and each hotel immensely. The price of such an exotic trip was just enough for my budget. I really have nothing negative to say. Thank you for such excellent preparation and support. My family thanks you. Continue with your excellent service and diverse trip offers.Michelle S.
On April 8, 2023, I had the privilege of being led on a tour to Morocco by Sami, who is an exceptional and knowledgeable guide. He was incredibly attentive to detail and made sure that we did not miss anything. Sami probably has a PHD in the history of Morocco because he was truly impressive and was able to answer every question to the group with ease. My trip was not only enjoyable but was also educational. I want to thank Sami for his incredible knowledge and expertise about Rabat, Fez and Marrakesh. I left the trip with a much deeper understanding of the complexities of medieval times and imperialism. His ability to connect historical events to the present day was truly impressive and made the tour both inspirational and educational. From landing to Casablanca, driving to see the Royal Palace, the Romans ruins, the mosaics, the medina, the mosque, the carpets, Marrakesh, the camel ride not to forget the Tagine dishes. Sami did an excellent job of highlighting the unique quality of each city and making sure that we get the most of our visit during that week. Sami went above and beyond to make sure that everyone in the group felt welcome and included. He even took the time to acknowledge my cousin, who was celebrating her birthday during that week with a delicious birthday cake. The kindness and attention to detail truly made the tour a life time experience. I highly recommend anyone interested in history to take a tour with Gate 1 travel to Morocco. Thank you for this amazing week.Marjory L.
My Moroccan Allure vacation was the best ever! This was my first experience with Gate 1 Travel, and I was very impressed. Our tour guide, Hisham was fantastic. I believe he made everyone in our small group tour feel special. Hisham certainly kept track of everyone and everything. He was the perfect host for his country. I have to say, my favorite experience was the camel ride. This is something I have wanted to do since I was a little girl. We had a View Master with a disc on Egypt, and one of the pictures on it is a man riding a camel. I wanted to ride a camel from that day on. I turn 70 tomorrow. It was a long wait, but worth it! We did so many things that made the tour extra special and more personal: Tea with the nomadic family, Tea with the village family, Dinner with the city family. Our hosts were so kind to share those moments with us. We stopped to see the goats in the argon trees. The local guides were very informative and friendly. I hope to make Gate 1 vacations an annual event.Barbara J.
We had a fabulous time in Morocco. This was my 3rd time in Morocco and Gate1 always delivers the best. Our guide DHRIS was amazing, funny and very informative. We really appreciate every detail Gate1 puts in planning the trip. Thank you.Poonam D.
My wife and I recently completed Gate1's Kaleidoscope of Morocco tour. What an amazing and memorable experience! There are not enough superlatives to describe this trip. We began considering this tour almost a year ago as a relatively inexpensive way to check another continent off of our list. As we booked the trip and began doing our own research, we started to think that Morocco might be special. Well, this thought was an understatement! From Rabat to Merzouga, from Fez to Essaouira, we saw apes, camels, tree-climbing goats, beaches, snow-capped peaks looming behind deserts, a literal kaleidoscope of colors in Morocco's mountains, and amazing ancient and modern architecture. Most importantly, we also had the experience of meeting the people of this ancient Kingdom and found them to be very warm, friendly, and welcoming. Our experience was made all the better by our Tour Manager, Hicham. He not only performed all of the duties of a Tour Manager with excellence, he personified the warmth of all the Moroccan people. He is a credit to his country and to Gate1! Hicham was very ably assisted by our intrepid bus driver Mohammed, and our bus assistant Idriss. This team of three, and the uniformly excellent local guides we experienced, all combined to make our Moroccan adventure one we will never forget! We are going to tell all of our friends that they have to contact Gate1 to plan a visit Morocco, and ask for Hicham to be their Tour Director! Thank you Gate1 for opening our horizons to include Morocco!Max H.
My Moroccan Allure trip was FANTASTIC! Moha, our tour director was extremely knowledgeable, thoughtful and friendly. The manner in which he presented information on his country inspired me to read more about the history of Morocco. Our driver and his asst. were excellent. The Hotels - AH, the Hotels, This is the first tour I have ever been on where the accommodations were an integral part of a cultural immersion experience. The Riads, Casbahs, and Desert Tent accommodations placed me in old Morocco - what a wonderful experience. I remember fondly having tea with a Bedouin woman in her isolated tent and again having tea in a Berber Village in the Mountains. The overnight in the Sahara Tent Village was incredible. Starting with an exhilarating ride in 4x4 vehicles to the sunset camel ride on the dunes. THANK YOU GATE 1 for an incredible adventure.John A.
I had the wonderful opportunity to experience a beautiful country with all of its sights, sounds, history, and people. Everyone has the character of compassion in them, but no country has ever shown me so much compassion and gratitude than the Moroccans. Everywhere we traveled Moroccans expressed their gratitude by welcoming me to their country. I heard the words over and over again!! "Welcome"! It is certain that every site that I experienced was wonderful!! Although the camel ride in the Sahara Desert and the Optional Botanical Tour were my top favorites, the experience would not have been the same without the welcoming gratitude of the people of Morocco. When people show gratitude and appreciation, we feel more relaxed and willing to enjoy the moment. The Moroccans made it easy for me to be relaxed and enjoy their country. I enjoyed every moment that I was in Morocco. The grateful smiles of the Moroccans brought joy to my heart. Their expression of gratitude has enriched my life, my heart was opened, and I will be forever grateful. I am especially grateful for our tour guide, Rasheed, because without his kindness and knowledge, the trip would not have been the same. My journal is full of notes from the plethora of information that Rasheed provided. In fact, while in Morocco and half way through my journey, I had to buy a new journal since I had filled my first journal. Rasheed is a top of the line tour guide. He has a wonderful sense of humor and thank goodness for that since dealing with 16 women had its challenges, but he handled them all with grace and humor. I am especially grateful that he was our tour guide. In addition, our bus driver and assistant, Mohommad and Mohommad were the best and also the top of the line. The trip would not have been the same without their patience and kindness. There is a saying that "a smile is worth a thousand words". It is definitely so very true and applies to Mohommad and Mohommad, Rasheed, and all the Moroccans that I encountered on this trip. Morocco has enhanced the quality of my life!!Theresa C.
Our Gate 1 Discovery Moroccan Allure tour was our first trip with Gate 1. We have done other land tours and they have been wonderful but this one was outstanding and more than we expected. Chaouqi, our tour manager, was the best we have ever had. He took special care to see that we had everything we needed to enjoy every day. He provided a wealth of information about Morocco and the people. He was patient and kind and a real pleasure to spend time with. Highlights of our tour included: lovely hotels, delicious meals, a camel ride with our tent overnight in the Sahara Desert, a Moroccan cooking class, beautiful garden tours with a soothing foot bath, seeing goats in trees, market shopping, etc.! We saw it all: the Atlas Mountains, deserts, forests, river gorges, big cities and small villages, as well as the seashore. A very comprehensive tour of the country, This was a wonderful tour for a great value. We will definitely travel with Gate 1 tours again soon. We highly recommend them.Nancy G.
My trip was awesome. Our tour guide, Abdul, his driver and helper were the greatest. I believe you have the best possible tour guide there is. He is so helpful and concerned about everyone on the tour. He goes above and beyond what I'm sure is required of him. You have the best of the best.Neomi H.
This was my first trip with Gate 1. I was so impressed with all the details that were handled. Providing coins for toilet stops, constantly providing us with bottled water, giving us a list of clean, safe restaurants for each city we stayed in, nice clean hotels, giving us ideas of what to do and see on free time and the reasonably priced optional tours that were fantastic. Our tour manager Larbi was amazing. He was so much fun, so knowledgeable and caring about every single one of us. Our driver Youssef and assistant Adzis were a great addition to the team, making us feel comfortable and welcomed. We also had Hasan, an excellent tour guide in Fez. He was so brilliant that we just wanted to listen and talk to him long after the tour was over. The people from Gate 1 were great representatives not only for your company, but for their country. On the last night of our tour, my companion could not find her passport and wallet with money and credit cards. She thought she may have lost it in the medina. I had to return to Florida and she was going back to Alaska so I was not able to stay with her. Larbi assured her Gate1 would help her with the recovery process and she would not be alone. He also came to our room to help search and she did eventually find it. We miss him. I am looking at the Gate1 Essential So. Africa with Victoria Falls with another friend. Now that I have first hand experience with Gate1, I would recommend them to everyone who wants a great value, a tour company that thinks of everything to make you comfortable and well planned itineraries.Carol C.
Another great tour of Gate 1 again. We were very lucky to have a great tour manager, Hicham, in our tour. Hicham is very professional, knowledgeable, well organized, courteous, caring, and surprisingly humorous too. He delivered his commentary in a simple and interesting way but full of details. I felt I learned the whole history of Morocco in these 15 days. Great tour itinerary is important but without a great tour manager to guide us through it will be just an average tour. Morocco has changed a lot since the last time I was there. I now have a better understanding of Morocco in every aspect from Hicham's commentary. Hope I will get another good tour manager my next Gate 1 tour.Helen C.
Our trip was amazing, thank you. The Highlight was riding on the camel in the desert at sunset and the fossil stop. Wish we had some more time to shop there as it was truly amazing story of the fossil's. And to think I now live in Lakewood Colorado where we have dinosaurs ridge is two miles from my home, the other place in the world that they have discovered Fossil's and Dinosaurs. But Morocco Fossils are amazing and are able to see so many on them as we traveled and saw some when we where in the dessert! Such an amazing day. I brought a Fossil Coffee table from the shop there, that was a piece of art and so affordable and can not wait to see it in my Livingroom. It was so beautiful it spoke to me and said you need to buy me... Enjoyed how the Berber People lived and visiting them in the home to be served peppermint tea and bread. So interesting to see that is how they still lived and how the house expended as the family grew. Visiting the Nomads in there homes was also a highlight of our trip. It was also so exciting to be in Morocco when the soccer world cups was happening and with every win the city where we were erupted in hooking of horns to crowding the beach and Market place in Essaouira. Over all our tour guide Chaouqi brought Morocco to life for us. He was so knowledgeable about the history of Morocco.Marcia P.
I just have to add that Redouane was the BEST tour guide among many good tour guides I have had with Gate 1. His attention to detail, his clear directions, his warmth, his knowledge and love of his country, and his ability to laugh kept 38 of us on time, happy, and interested. We were groups within a group because there was a group of 8 friends, a group of 6 friends, and a group of 5 friends that made up the group of 38. We were all Americans or Canadian, but there were 4 languages other than English as a native language. Surprisingly, by the end of the tour, Redouane had accomplished the impossible - we became a close group. He is a great asset to this company - and I hope you appreciate his worth. He even got a doctor for my friend who became ill during the trip - and a house call at the hotel at that. In addition, the bus driver Mustafa was nothing but a hero as he navigated the mountain passes and the crazy traffic of the cities. Jawad kept us comfortable with water, keeping a very clean bus, and making sure we disembarked and embarked the bus safely. GREAT TRIP led by great people!Gloria L.
Wow! What a trip the "18 day Absolute Morocco" trip was!!! This tour was on my bucket list for years, one thing or the other that it had been pushed back time after time. So when I landed in Casablanca, I was still in a daze not able to believe that I actually made it to Morocco. Many people had scoffed when they heard that I was going to be on a trip in Morocco for 18 days. They wondered if there was even anything worth seeing for a week. How wrong they were! In the beginning of this trip, the uneasy feeling of being in a foreign country when the language is a big barrier was unsettling, I felt home sick thinking of my family back home. But the stunningly beautiful sceneries appearing non-stop in front of my eyes, the scrumptious exotic cuisines served meals after meals. And mostly, the friendly people that we encountered put me right at ease. My emotions went from home-sickness, to excitement, to panicky as I dreaded the last day to come. Simply because I did not want to go home! I wanted this journey to restart all over again so I may savor each moment, each location one more time. Definitely, out of all the itineraries Gate 1 offers for Morocco, "18 day Absolute Morocco" is the best and only option to experience this diverse country on a fuller scale. I have been on numerous Gate 1 tours by now, each one has been very well designed and architected to provide the best value to its clients. It's no surprises that many tourists rebook their tours again and again with Gate 1. Our "18 day Absolute Morocco" trip would not have been such a great success without our dear, dear tour manager, Abdelkader. We felt so pampered by his tiny, but constant, gestures of his attention to detail type of cares. Many times, he went beyond the call of duty to ensure our safety and comfort; and subtly, yet superbly maximized our complete immersion in the Moroccan culture to enjoy each minute of the day. He always would confirm and direct each order at every meal to minimize any mishaps from the restaurant staff, and also ensured that we were served promptly. On many other occasions, I noticed that not only he was caring our group, his so called extended family members during the tour, he would also pay attention to the locals we got to interact, such as the street vendors, or the camel caretakers, and drivers. By the end, every group member wanted to take him home so we may reciprocate his hospitality and warm friendship too. Issues and accidents bound to happen on an extended tours like this. And sure enough, accidents did happen. Each time, Abdelkader was able to handle it smoothly without affecting the enjoyment and safety of the whole group. Rather, anyone else who was not involved in the accident could hardly notice that things had happened. Abdelkader truly is a great asset to Gate 1 office in Morocco!!!Hsien C.
Fabulous! Thank you. Abdel made this vacation an outstanding adventure. I have never had a tour guide the equal of Abdel. He is conscientious, considerate, caring, helpful, accommodating, funny, hardworking, and above all, kind. He left no stone unturned to see to the comfort and safety of his charges. There was no challenge he didn't meet with a smile and take seriously. I feel he showed me the country he loved and I was able to really see it through his loving and kind character and house own sense of hospitality. What a trip! Everyone should go to Morocco and everyone should do it with Abdel Kader. Thank you Gate one for selecting such a wonderful representative for your company! I will be vacationing with your company again!Traci F.
My 18 days Moroccan adventure was the best ever land tour taken in my life time! It was 100% due to our Tour manager/Director Abdelkader. Abdel is passionate about his career which showed immediately. Due to his positive attitude towards all of us, our group of 30 strangers became a close family within the first 3 days!! It was awesome! I felt as if I was at home celebrating life with my family! Abdel with his vast home land knowledge and his súper clear English language skills made us feel at home from day one! Abdel is the best Tour Director I had ever met! He really cared personally for everyone of us and made sure, at all times, that we were safe and pleased with the days activities and our personal needs were met! He went above and beyond the line of duty to make sure we enjoyed our time in Morocco and mainly learned all the aspects of the Moroccan culture and its heritage!! In addition, he went the extra mile in guiding us towards choosing the perfect extra curricular activities we asked for. He made sure we arrived and came back safely to and from our different nightly activities in which we participated during our free time! We always felt safe and cared for! ! I will always carry Morocco and it's people in my heart as the best ever adventure in my life time and mainly due to our wonderful/ knowledgeable Tour Director Abdelkader!Mercedes A.
We just completed your thirteen-day tour of Morocco with Brahim who was an excellent guide in a number of ways. He is truly a hospitable person who wants each and every guest to enjoy himself or herself in Morocco and he works hard to help his guests in every way imaginable. It is clear that Brahim has a lot of experience. We constantly noticed that he foresaw problems before they could occur. He was extremely organized and often called restaurants or hotels beforehand so that they were ready with food or keys. After a long day of traveling it was great to be able to go right to your room. Mr. Aghraz was also great in explaining Morrocan history, religion and culture to us . He is a very enthusiastic person who really likes the people he is guiding and his enthusiasm was infectious. He also has excellent knowledge of the country and culture so he always knew exactly the perfect places to take the group to whether it be a restaurant or a shop. His tips were always spot on. His aid in shopping was a big help not only to us but also to the whole group. I noticed that he would even pitch in and help serve us at restaurants so that no one in the group was hungry for long. At the end of the tour, one of the group members said that one of the best things about Morocco was Brahim and we all agreed. Gate1 is lucky to have him as a guide.Maryla C.
The trip was wonderful. What made so memorable, are people of Morocco , especially the tour manager Ibrahim and his team , driver Abdul and assistant Aziz. I have been on 3 tours on Gate 1 and this one is my fourth one. Ibrahim, was by far the best. He went above and beyond his duty to make sure that everybody is taken care of and happy. One example of his attentiveness was the morning of departure. He got up at 4:30 to put everybody on the bus and also have already breakfast in the bag, even the restaurant wasn't open. This is just a small example of his thoughtfulness. Every time we arrived somewhere, after a long bus drive , the room keys were ready and the food was waiting for us. He was also so professional, informative and really painted a great picture of his country. He takes grate pride of his job and he's a great asset to your company. Thank you so much for hiring a people like him.Branka B.
Our trip to Morocco was fabulous! Thanks to our great tour manager, Larbi and his team Youssef and Rashid. Larbi is so far the best tour manager and guide that I've had with Gate 1. He took care of the group like his family and made sure everyone's needs were met. Larbi is very knowledgeable that I learned so much about Moroccan culture. Youssef our chauffeur made sure we got to our destination safely. Rashid made sure we were all hydrated and kept the bus clean and sanitized. Kudos to the team!!Eloisa C.
We really enjoyed our recent trip in Morocco. The people, the food, the scenery and most of all our Tour Manager, Larbi, who made sure we are all taken cared of. Larbi was the best Tour Manager so far from all our other travels with Gate1 and other tour companies. He thought of everything that made our trip memorable and problem free up to the very small details like having available for us small denominations of Dirham. He was professional, kind, helpful and attentive. His assistance, Rashid, was very helpful and always made sure we had bottled water. Yousef our driver kept us safe. This was such a memorable and happy experience. Thanks to Gate1!Jaime N.
In case no one has yet sung the praises for our tour manager, Redouone, please be aware that we could not have asked for a better tour manager / leader. He was the best tour guide that we have had from all of the different trips that we have been on whether it be Gate 1, Trafalgar, Insight Tours. He was the best. His injection of information along the trip was appreciated & very informative but more than that, he is just a very warm & kind person. The trip was what was promised but not threatening in any way. Since our past travels have been in North America & Western Europe, Morocco might be considered out of our comfort zone, but it was not. The food & accommodations, although somewhat different from our regular experience, were always appreciated. The variety of accommodations enhanced the experience of our Morocco trip. The camel ride, of course, was a major highlight of the experience to Morocco.Rosalind F.
We had a wonderful trip! It was our first Gate 1 trip. It was actually our first group tour, so we were somewhat hesitant, but we are now sold on small group Discovery tours! Our guide, Chaouqi, was outstanding! He was friendly, professional, attentive, very interesting and entertaining, and so kind and considerate of all his "family", as he referred to us travel companions. The hotels were very nice and very "Moroccan" with beautiful décor and gardens and pools. The food was delicious. The coach was very comfortable, with just the right amount of stops for refreshments and facilities. We saw so much of the beautiful landscapes from mountains to plains to desert to oasis to seaside. It was a great overview of the country, filled with historic sights, colorful old cities, varieties of villages we passed through, and crowded medinas. We would highly recommend this tour of Morocco. We are already thinking about our next Discovery tour!Lee S.
What a wonderful trip. Hassan, Muhammed and Mubarak were wonderful. Hassan was well informed, knowledgeable, approachable and friendly. He was always available for any concerns or questions. We always felt safe and well guided! Great work on hiring such a great team. By the end of the trip they help everyone in the tour group become friends, laughing and having fun!Deborah P.
I just wanted to let you know that I am not sure that we could have had a better tour guide than Mohammed. He was amazing, so knowledgeable and acommodating. I am positive that he is the absolute best and am recommending him to my friends that are interested in travelling to Morocco. Also the coach driver and assistant always had a smile on their face and were always willing to help. Great trip, great tour guide. I highly recommend Gate 1, and this was my first tour.Vicki B.
I wanted to provide feedback about the recent trip my husband and I took to Morocco for my 40th birthday. The trip was amazing to say the least. Our tour Manager, Zouhair was the best tour manager I have had in all of my guided travels. He's knowledgeable not only about the history and culture of his country but he has a very great way of conveying story and engrossing his listeners. He genuinely cares about the people in his tour groups and has stepped up above and beyond what's required of a guide. Gate1 is very fortunate to have him on his team.Kathryn O.
First and foremost, special thanks to our Tour Manager, Rasheed. He went above and beyond to make our trip going smoothly. Rasheed is a very good man, with special passion to work with people. His deep knowledge of history, culture, architecture and customs of Morocco contributed to creating a very special atmosphere. There was no request or question left unresolved or unanswered, day or night. Please let him know our highest appreciation. As for the trip, it's another well organized in typical Gate1 fashion gem: thoughtfully constructed, covering a lot of the country of Morocco, good hotels, nice food and, just in overall, very pleasant experience. Thank you very much!Joseph G.
Gate 1 did an outstanding job with our tour of Morocco. Amin, our tour leader was excellent. He gave us insights of Morocco. His passion for guiding and his passion for Morocco, were striking. Our tour people in Fes, and Volubilis, were very helpful in understanding the history of these places. I would recommend Gate 1 to anyone.Phillip O.
I am usually an independent traveler and going on a tour is never my first choice. This GATE 1 tour in Morocco changed my opinion on that. This was a wonderful trip. And I think that our Tour Manager, Hicham, made all the difference in the world. I arrived two days earlier to Morocco. I arranged our transfer through Gate 1. When I met with the person in charge of the transfers, he put Hicham on the phone. Hicham introduced himself, and gave me his phone number, just in case anything was needed. He was following up even before our official start of the tour. I felt at ease, and very safe, knowing that in a country with a different culture than mine where I didn't even speak the language, there is someone that I could call, and that was making sure that I was fine. He was always just a WhatsApp message away! That set the bar very high from the start. The tour was great, I learned a lot from Hicham's explanations. I asked many questions, and all where answered. The local guides - In Volubilis, Fez, Erfoud and Essaouira - were wonderful and so knowledgeable. I felt as if the information provided was coming from a history teacher instead a tour guide. Even the days where we spent lots of time in the bus, included good information, enough stops and even we watched the movie Casablanca on our way to Casablanca! The two weeks of the tour went by very fast. Hicham was always available to support us with any question, or even help with any reservation. He made sure that we all were fine. He treated us like family. I need to also mention that the bus driver and the helper, were so nice, always smiling and very helpful. I hope all other destinations that are offered by Gate 1 have the same level of quality and dedication that I had in Morocco. The Bar is certainly set very high.Rosie V.
Finally got settled after an amazing Gate 1 tour. Our tour manager Safi is well informed & detailed oriented. He showed he cares for the participants of the tour, from wake up calls to daily schedules, he is very organized. It shows he cares for the participants. He answered questions accurately to the best of his ability. He is very knowledgeable of the history, tour insights of the areas we visited. We are giving a grade of Excellent. Gate 1 needs more Tour managers like Safi.Ofelia B.
Yet another wonderful tour with Gate 1. Everything was great, no issues at all and the Tour Manager Hissham, our bus driver and his assistant were just super awesome!Celerina Q.
Unexpectedly, our tour manager Zouhair and his team made our first trip with Gate 1 full of good and happy memories. He went out of his way to make our trip memorable, fun-filled yet informative and educational. He is so proud of his country and very enthusiastic to share his vast knowledge of its geography, history and politics making us all see Morocco in a different light. Moreover, he looked after our safety and well-being at all times wherever we go and made sure that each participants' wish or expectation from this trip is met and fulfilled. At the end of our trip, we all bonded together like a big family and made traveling-friends for life. The highlight of this trip is how wonderful and generous of his time and effort our host Zouhair to make each one of us leave with greater appreciation of his country and culture.Amparo A.
Would like to take this opportunity to say a very special thanks to "Ben" our tour director for such a fantastic adventure. He along with are Driver and his Assistant went above and beyond every day. They all looked after us so well, took care of everyone's needs, so knowledgeable and informative, genuinely made us feel so welcome in there country just such an amazing adventure. Thank you so much. Looking forward to the next trip.Diana A.
My husband and I along with two of our friends had Chaouqi as our tour guide for the 8 Day Essential Morocco tour. He was absolutely amazing! He gave us all change pouches as a gift on the first day. Chaouqi was a true professional and through his love of country and culture, help us love this wonderful part of the world. He greeted us with a smile every day, was the local photographer for the entire group, and even kept us laughing in between our destinations. We managed to learn so much about this beautiful country and hope to return very soon with the rest of our family.Desha N.
This trip was beyond all expectations. Our driver and assistant on the motor coach were friendly and so helpful. My wife Mary and I want to make a special notice of Salmi our tour guide. Salmi, is one of the friendliest, knowledgeable, and professional guides we have ever had. He is an outstanding representative of Gate 1 in Morocco. From his knowledge, humor and patience there was nothing missing. By the end of the trip he was part of our family, from dancing with us to giving us insight into his country that we will never forget. We could go on with a long, long list of specifics but that would take up a long summary. Thanks Salmi from the bottom of our heart.Mark S.
I have been General Manager of a 5 star hotel property for 37 years. I am quick to recognize hospitality at its finest. This was my first Gate 1 trip. I am already considering which Gate 1 trip will be my next. It is very important to me that guide Driss get the kudos he earned for his pure professionalism, exceptional customer service and tour guidance. He was essential in delivering to this very grateful world traveler, and new Gate 1 customer, a life changing experience.Wendy P.
As a senior Captain for a major airline, I have traveled all over the world for work and pleasure. On my off days, my wife and I travel extensively, with me being the travel agent, organizer, tour guide, driver, sommelier and porter. Traveling to Morocco on an organized tour was never on our bucket list, but we absolutely loved everything about it. The people, the country, the tour guides, food, and hotels were all fabulous. Our tour manager, Driss, is a great human being who made our trip amazing. So amazing that we have already booked Gate 1 trips in the upcoming year to Peru, Costa Rica, India and Greece. Driss worked tirelessly to make sure everyone was well taken care of throughout the entire trip. Gate 1 exceeded our expectations on our first trip in every way, and we can't wait to travel with Gate 1 again.Richard S.
I went on a 15 day Moroccan Allure trip with you on 11/13/2021. Our tour director was Mr Abdellah. It was a truly phenomenal trip and we came home with wonderful memories of this beautiful country. We have been on many Gate 1 trips before and all your managers have been very good, but Abdellah was exceptional. He was so passionate about sharing in great detail everything about his country such as the culture, history, people, and way of life. He was SO HELPFUL to all the members of our group in every situation and paid personal attention to all. We are vegetarians. Abdellah would call each restaurant and give them specific cooking instructions in detail to make sure that we were taken care of. Despite Morocco being completely meat eating, we never felt we were missing a meal. He made sure we enjoyed the dining experience. He went above and beyond. I am writing to express my deep gratitude and compliment him for a job so well done and making our trip so enjoyable.Rajiv G.
Abdou is the best tour guide. He is everything any tourist could hope for in a guide. His linguistic ability is second to none, his diction in English & his tone of voice is pleasant on the ear. His knowledge of his country & the world, & his easy manner of filling your head with every important fact was just the best. He knows how to get the best out of his clients & he gives them his all. He is so attentive to each client without being invasive or overbearing. All the Gate1 guides I've had are excellent, but, Abdou is certainly a cut above the rest. Any tour company would be very lucky to have him as a guide.Robert B.
We had an awesome trip. It was very organized and our tour leader Mohammed was such an excellent guide. We're very grateful to have Mohammed as our tour leader - one with an amazing sense of humanity. He was not just very knowledgeable about Moroccan history and culture, he was such a pleasant, kind, honest, caring, compassionate and protective tour leader who is very concerned about the needs of each and everyone of us. He really took care of us from our very first meeting all the way to our send-off at the airport in Casablanca. Needless to say, he made our trip a safe and truly enjoyable one with his own personal anecdotes and funny jokes. We bonded very well with other tour mates so much so that we plan to go back again to Morocco. Hats off to Mohammed and to Gate 1 travel.Adelia & Eduardo G. New York, NY
Our trip was fantastic! Mohammed was a wonderful tour manager and for the most part, the itinerary fit our expectations. We loved the opulence of our final hotel in Casablanca, it was a great send off.Nancy T. Hastings, MN
My trip was amazing! I loved it and had a most wonderful time. Our group was so friendly and fun to be with. We were all friendly and enjoyed each other’s company. We were really a family of sorts….. a cast of characters. :-) Our tour guide was the best I have ever had. Safi lead our group with his heart and it was evident in everything he did. He truly wanted us to have all that we wanted, and he did what he could to make it happen. He was there for us, and I felt very safe. He ran the tour very smoothly. What a lovely human being! I loved the variety of the places we stayed and the variety of the activities we did. The food was fabulous…… everything was. Gate 1 was waiting at the airport both on arrival and departure, easing any worries we may have had. I look forward to booking my next trip with Gate 1. A great experience!Joan C. New York, NY
My husband, Leonard, and I loved every moment of the Morocco trip!!! Rasheed was a fantastic tour leader. He took excellent care of all of us (his "family", as he called us during the tour). He was so knowledgeable about history, customs, culture, etc. , and patiently answered all questions as he explained everything to us. We loved everything we saw and did: from Rabat, Roman ruins, palaces, tombs, calls to prayer, stray cats, camels, snake charmers, belly dancers, Fez, mosaic factory, visit to school that Gate 1 supports, the desert, Atlas Mountains, wild apes, Berber villages, Marrakesh, Casablanca, camel ride through the Sahara Desert, to Erfoud, etc., etc., etc!!!! This trip was like no other that we have taken, and we would not hesitate to go on another Gate 1 Travel tour!!! Thank you all for doing such a great job!!!Susan M. Lake Frederick, VA
Trip was amazing..our Guide was the best guide we have ever had on any trip we have taken with any company! He helped everyone everyday and was an A+ in every category to judge him!Michael C. Provincetown, MA
