This active program covers a good amount of ground each day. Expect from two-three hours walking on some touring days. The pace is moderate; however, you will encounter some uneven surfaces, stairs, steps and significant slopes. A few early wake-ups, as well as some long days of 10-12 hours, are necessary to cover the territory.

Here, visit the Sai Yok Noi Waterfall, the most popular attraction in the park. After lunch, continue to Hellfire Pass that derives its name from Allied Prisoners of War ordered by the Japanese authorities to complete the bridge and rail line earlier than scheduled. All POW's were forced to work day and night in the jungle, digging through the mountain with simple tools. More than 12,000 soldiers and 80,000 Thais perished during construction. Conclude the tour with a train ride that crosses the Bridge over River Kwai.
Approximate tour duration is 8 hours.
Please note that there are approximately 154 stairs with 4 small platforms to descend to the railway bed to view the pass. You will need to climb back up the stairs to return to the start point. The Cu Chi tunnels were part of an underground tunnel network built by the Viet Cong to control a large rural area near Saigon. These tunnels were first used during the French/Vietnamese War (1946-1954) and later used by the Viet Cong as a base of operations during the 1968 Tet offensive. The Cu Chi network includes 125 miles of tunnels with many branches connecting to underground hideouts, weapon factories, hospitals, shelters and other tunnels. The entire structure was dug out of the rock by hand tools without the use of cement. On this tour, you’ll learn about the tunnels and other aspects of the war. Opportunity for a brief view of life underground as you enter areas that have been enlarged to create easier access for visitors. The majority of the tour will be above the tunnels.
Please note: This tour is presented from a Vietnamese perspective, based on past wars with France and the United States. If you are uncomfortable with the expressed point-of-views and prefer not to hear this discussion, then we recommend that you do not participate.
Approximate tour duration is 5 hours.
|Day #15||01 Jul 2016 - 30 Jun 2019||$39.00|
Begin the boat trip at a local pier in the Old Town, cruising down streams and passing many fishing areas before cruising out to the main river. Stop at Kim Bong village, home of traditional woodworking and boat-building families. Return to the mainland and drive to the Traque Organic Village for lunch. Here, meet local farmers and learn about the many vegetables and herbs that are organically grown here to support the people of Hoi An. Walk through the gardens and see how, even today, local farmers work their fields using the traditional methods used hundreds of years ago. A culinary lesson follows on the traditional ways of preparing and cooking Vietnamese food, plus the local specialty called Banh-xeo. Once the lesson is over, enjoy the food you helped to prepare.
Departs at 8:30 am. Pick-up and drop-off at the hotel. Approximate tour duration is 6 hours.

Enjoy a panoramic view of both the daily life and the architecture of Hue with a Trishaw (Cyclo) Tour. (The Cyclo is a very common mode of transportation in Vietnam.) Begin at the French Quarter with its beautiful French villas. Pass by the school where former presidents Ho Chi Minh and Ngo Dinh Diem, as well as Vo Nguyen Giap - a prominent Vietnamese politician - were educated. Continue via the market to the former Royal Palace. Then, arrive at a family-run restaurant within the Citadel walls; its owner is the descendant of a high ranking Mandarin official, and thus considered "a master of Royal cuisine." Savor a multi-course dinner - each dish will be presented in the shape of a peacock, dragon or turtle. This feast is a replica of the Royal Feast presented to the royal families in the past.
Approximate tour duration is 3 hours.
|Day #18||01 Jul 2018 - 30 Jun 2019||$45.00|
Enjoy a boat trip on the beautiful and serene Perfume River with a stop to a local village to learn about the daily life of local people in one of the most traditional parts of North Central Vietnam. Continue to the Thien Mu Pagoda, situated on Ha Khe hill, on the north bank of the Perfume River. The temple complex stretches north from the river banks in seven successive tiers, each of which is dedicated to a human form taken by the Buddha, or a step to enlightenment. Then, drive to the Tomb of Emperor Tu Duc, the final resting place of Vietnam’s longest reigning emperor, set among forested hills and lakes. Lastly, proceed to Khai Dinh, the last monument of the Nguyen dynasty. A vegetarian lunch prepared by Buddhist nuns of the Dong Thien Pagoda is a very special experience, with time to interact with the Buddhist nuns, learning more about their lives in the pagoda.
Departs at 8:30 am. Pick-up and drop-off at the hotel. Approximate tour duration is 7 hours.
|Day #19||01 Jul 2018 - 30 Jun 2019||$60.00|

Walking tour around the village to see the traditional layout with small alleyways in-between the houses. Our trip was fabulous! We have been taking international trips for the past 10 year (some with Gate 1) and this trip was excellent. Vit, our tour guide was so friendly, and knowledgeable. The pace of the trip was appropriate. We saw many aspects of Thailand but did not feel rushed. All the accommodations were excellent ... The bus was clean and comfortable. We had no negative incident of any nature. Just an overall great trip that we would recommend to friends and family ... Looking forward to traveling with Gate 1 in the future.Tom C. Elk Grove, CA
We had a great time on our trip to Vietnam!! It was even better than we expected. Our guide was Trong who did an excellent job making sure we all had a great experience and learned about the Vietnamese people and culture. We would highly recommend this trip to friends!!Scott D. Westbrook, ME
It was outstanding. Our guides, especially Tom in Vietnam and Weet in Cambodia were great leaders and very knowledgeable. They had a deep understanding of the culture and history of their respective nation. In addition they were sensitive to group dynamics and the needs of the travelers. Linda and I could not believe the depth and breadth of our tour for the price that we paid which was the equivalent of the airline tickets and hotels alone. We will carry the memories of this tour with us for a long time. Thanks Gate 1!Steven W. Lady Lake, FL
We had a great time ... Our tour manager, Mike, was outstanding…a dear man who was knowledgeable and took good care of us. The tour was well planned and enabled us to get a real feel for Thailand, Laos and Cambodia, as well as the culture, architecture, food and history of the region. The hotels were outstanding. We were amazed at the quality! Cruising on the Mekong River, riding in ox carts, seeing Angkor Wat and the hill people of Thailand were special treats. There were so many special events that it is difficult to list them all ...Jeanine D. Phoenix, AZ

She was very knowledgeable about Thailand, she was very relatable, caring, nurturing, and she knew the tours inside and out. Furthermore, she was able to recommend the best optional tours for my desires. Second, My driver was also phenomenal and really attentive and nice. The trip was above and beyond our expectations. So wonderful. Kit was the best. She has so much knowledge about sites. Most important, she made us feel safe at all times. She guides us from pick up to last day transfer to airport. Will be looking at other trips with gate 1 in the future.Cheryl D. Orlando, FL
The trip was great! As usual Gate 1 provided a full, enjoyable, and well-rounded itinerary. The hotels were comfortable, as was the touring coach. The Bangkok hotel was so well-situated, walking distance to all sorts of shops, restaurants, and night life. The resort on the river was a fantastic escape for a couple of days, it felt so isolated and peaceful. Anil was terrific - competent, organized, knowledgeable, and friendly. The bus driver, Mr. Honda, was also friendly and a safe and responsible driver in a country where traffic looked a bit on the chaotic side to me overall! The airport transfers were smooth and the sightseeing was amazing - there's so much exotic beauty and history and culture to soak up. I wish I could have dialed down the temperature by about twenty degrees, but that was beyond Gate 1's control! Overall a really enjoyable trip.Kyra C. San Rafael, CA
We had a great holiday in Thailand, more to see and do than we expected . Your tour guide did a really good job looking after us all and the tour covered so much of the country and its history.Slade L. Mindarie, WA, AU

It was a wonderful trip. Thailand was not on my bucket list, but it should have been. The accommodations and food were outstanding. Our tour manager, Udom, was fantastic. We have already made up our minds to go back for “The Gems of Southeast Asia”.Dennis C. Peoria, AZ

Our trip was wonderful. Working with Gate 1 was very easy. I appreciated receiving reminder and informational emails in the days leading up to our trip. At the airport upon arrival we found our Gate 1 representative easily for our ground transportation to our hotel. At our hotel, we received a letter from the local Gate 1 contact giving us information about our ground transfer for the end of our trip as well as local contact information should any needs arise. I had heard good things about Gate 1 from a colleague and I am glad to say that your services met and exceeded our expectations. We will consider you for future trips!!Yvonne S. Kirkland, WA

My trip to Thailand was very, very nice...The tour guide (Ya) was exceptional, extremely knowledgeable about his country, he treated us as family and took care of us as we were family...Ya went out of his way to show us as much of his country as he could even to the point on stopping for us to see how the locals barbecue rats ( a local delicatessen) it is an experience I will never forget...He gave us tips on what to do for the free days and suggested where the best places to eat...He spoke very good English and was able to get his point across. He anticipated what we wanted to know and elaborated on it and did not seem to be bothered by it. He volunteered to take pictures for us without us asking. This is the 3rd time we have traveled with Gate 1 and it has been a wonderful experience. My husband who does not like to travel will go if it is with Gate 1. Our trip to Thailand was very, very nice and thanks to Ya it was great.Ruth B. Sun Valley, CA
Our trip to Thailand, Laos and Cambodia was amazing. We enjoyed every minute, and we're very happy with the Gate 1 services offered.Anita Z. Montreal, QC, CA
The trip was absolutely wonderful! The itinerary was amazing! We loved our tour guide Udom! He was our favorite tour guide out of the 4 Gate 1 trips we have traveled.Sheldon G. Cedar Park, TX
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip with Ron as our tour guide. We saw many sites and believe Ron went out of his way to share his country with us. He shared local cultural beliefs and exposed us to foods we would not have been brave enough to try on our own. We found him very helpful and most accommodating. Most of the group was very friendly and he kept everyone engaged and happy. The bus driver and his helper, Kit, were also a pleasure to travel with.Liz W. White Lake, MI
It was super! Our guide, Hai, was terrific and the scenery and sights were great! Thanks for asking.Anne J. Haddon Hgts, NJ
My trip to Thailand was absolutely fabulous! I can’t believe how much Gate 1 packed into 16 days. I feel as if I really got the flavor of the country. Our tour guide, Oh, and his assistants were professional and caring, paying attention to every little detail from refreshing hand wipes to ice cold water to snacks to frequent restroom stops. Our accommodations were top notch! The itinerary was well thought out and planned. While we arrived exhausted at the end of each day, it was not without complete satisfaction with all that we had seen in any particular day. At each tour, we had plenty of time to take in our surroundings. While this was my first Gate 1 tour, it will not be my last one! I will recommend this company to any and everyone!Lynne P. Bowie, MD
Fabulous. A fabulous trip partially because our tour guide Tuk went way above and beyond the call of duty and took care of absolutely everything. She did a sensational job. You are lucky to have a person like that working for Gate 1 Travel, that's for sure. However we also recognize that Gate 1 Travel made sure our trip was spectacular with ensuring good staff, good transportation, fabulous hotels, amazing meals and all the little things in between that make a difference between good and exceptional. Like always having fresh water available on those hot touring days, and arranging for our luggage to arrive in our rooms without us every having to worry about it. Sensational. So from here on in our group will continue to use Gate 1 Travel for our trips. Now the hardest question is : where to next?David P. Edmonton, AB, CA
We absolutely loved the trip and our guide, Voeng, was fantastic. I consider this the best vacation I have ever been on an we learned a lot about their culture.Dean R. Cpe Girardeau, MO
The trip was wonderful! Benny, your Bangkok representative, was marvelous. She met us when we arrived, provided us with all the related information; provided advice on restaurants, banks, buses; was an exceptional tour guide; and even saw us off at 2:45 am with box breakfasts. We signed up for all the optional tours and enjoyed them all. The flights on Air China were on time, the planes were clean and the service was great. Thanks for providing us with a wonderful adventure at a fair price! We look forward to our Uganda trip in June.Dorothy J. Long Beach, CA
It was fabulous, better than my first time to Vietnam in 2006. Weather was great, food was amazing, hotels were wonderful, and we had a superior tour guide, Tho. Learned so much more than expected from him sharing knowledge of his culture, history, places we visited, economics, religion, education, health and social issues. The country has really grown in number of buildings, motor cycles, population, and cost. Many more tourists, including our group of 33, who are experienced travelers and enjoyed Gate 1 frequent times. Many plan to go other places in the future soon, including me.Sandra J. San Francisco, CA
Excellent...our guide was especially good and helpful.Jonathan M. Davis Town, NSW, AU
We had a fantastic time in Thailand. Saw a lot of temples and palaces, ate delicious Thai food everyday, and had many novel and exciting experiences. Our tour manager Pete was friendly, organized, informative, upbeat and most of all, incredibly flexible. He really made the tour enjoyable for all of us, with his unwavering sense of humor and candor. We loved the personal color he added to descriptions of local culture and traditions, and his many helpful tips on shopping, restaurants, and places to visit on our own. The tour included a great balance between scheduled events and free time. Would definitely recommend this tour to all our friends.Lisa S. Walnut Creek, CA
Tuyan was a terrific tour guide. This was my 8th Gate 1 trip and he was the best. Very knowledgeable and engaging. I think he showed some of Vietnam most tourists don't see. Also visiting some of those places I remember hearing about during Vietnam war helped me put some things in perspective. The food and shopping were great too. Especially enjoyed Angkor Wat, Saigon, the tunnels, Hoi An and Hue, but everything was interesting and fun. I went on all the optional tours. We had a good group of travelers too.Anne M. Crofton, MD
