Heraklion

Palace of Knossos (HER - 02) - Approximate Duration: 4 hours - Adult: €71 Child: €52

Founded in 824 A.D., Heraklion was one of the major harbors during the Venetian occupation. The ancient city of Knossos, inhabited from the Neolithic era until the 5th century A.D., is beyond doubt the land that "gave birth" to the first civilization of Europe, the Minoans. The palace which was according to tradition, the residence of the wise King Minos, spreads around the large Central Court. See the awe-inspiring Throne Room, the fresco of the "Prince of the Lilies", the imposing Grand Staircase and the Queen's Megaron in the east.

Countryside of Crete (HER - 04) - Approximate Duration: 4 hours - Adult: €72 Child: €54

Drive deep into the beautiful Cretan countryside through the villages of Episkopi and Sgourokefali. Arrive at the traditional village of Stironas, located 550 meters above sea level. Experience how traditional Cretans lived centuries ago in this village comprised of stone buildings arranged like an amphitheater, with a view toward the mountains. Visit a botanical parterre, home to various aromatic and medicinal herbs from the mountains of Crete. Enjoy a sample of traditional Greek aperitif, ouzo, directly from the barrels in the distiller's cellar. Learn about wine production and bottling, and savor Cretan meze (appetizers) along with other local specialites. During the meal, enjoy a performance by traditional Cretan dancers.

Kusadasi

Ephesus & the House of Virgin Mary (KUS - 01) Approximate Duration: 4 hours Adult: €72 Child: €54

Drive through the colorful town of Kusadasi to reach Mt. Koressos. Situated in a small valley, it is here where you will visit the humble chapel on the site of the house where The Virgin Mary is believed to have spent her last days. Despite the many controversies, the Christian World still upholds this belief, and the site has been officially sanctioned by the Vatican for pilgrimage. Continue to Ancient Ephesus through the Magnesian Gate to begin a guided walking tour through one of the most magnificent excavations in the modern world. See the Odeon (concert hall), the Fountain of Trajan, the steam-heated Baths of Scolastika, the Temple of Hadrian and the Latrians, the Library of Celsus, and The Great Theater, the largest theater in antiquity. Walk back to your motorcoach along the Arcadian Way, where Mark Anthony and Cleopatra once rode in procession. Before returning to the ship, enjoy free time in Kusadasi or get a cultural taste of Turkey by enjoying an exhibition of oriental carpets, jewelery or leather goods. Ancient Ephesus & the Terrace Houses (KUS - 07) - Approximate Duration: 4.5 hours - Adult: €72 Child: €52

Drive through the colorful town of Kusadasi and along the coast to reach Ephesus, famous in antiquity for its Temple of Diana - one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Continue to Ancient Ephesus through the Magnesian Gate to begin a guided walking tour through one of the most magnificent excavations in the modern world. See the Odeon (concert hall), the Fountain of Trajan, the steam-heated Baths of Scolastika, the Temple of Hadrian, the Library of Celsus, and The Great Theater, the largest theater in antiquity. Walk back to your coach along the Arcadian Way, where Mark Anthony and Cleopatra once rode in procession. Continue to the House of Koressus, located at the foot of the Bulbul Hill. Protected by the heat and natural elements, the houses are very well preserved. These terrace houses, home to the rich families of Ancient Ephesus, were two-storied and were equipped with 'heating', as well as hot and cold water. The oldest unearthed houses date back to the 1st century B.C. This tour is not recommended for people with walking difficulties.

Patmos

St. John Monastery & Grotto of Apocalypse (PAT - 01) - Approximate Duration: 4 hours - Adult: €65 Child: €44

Depart from the port of Scala and journey to the village of Chora, home of the Monastery of St. John. As you walk uphill towards the monastery's entrance, view the courtyard, the monk's dining room, and the old bakery before visiting the main church. Noting its intricate frescoes and decorative interior, see the priceless ecclesiastical treasures housed in the Monastery's museum, including old books and manuscripts, splendid medieval textiles, and vestments. Following your visit, continue via motorcoach to the nearby Grotto of the Apocalypse, where lies above the Monastery of the Apocalypse. Descend the steps to visit the Grotto where you will notice the silver niches marking the pillow and ledge used as a desk by St. John--the believed author of the Book of Revelation*. Afterwards, drive back to the port of Scala and enjoy free time exploring this quaint harbor independently. This tour is not recommended for people with walking difficulties.

Scenic Island Tour (PAT - 02) - Approximate Duration: 4 hours - Adult: €65 Child: €44

Depart from the port of Scala and journey to the village of Chora, home of the Monastery of St. John and the nearby Grotto of the Apocalypse. The tour begins with a visit to the Grotto where you will notice the silver niches marking the pillow and ledge used as a desk by St. John--the believed author of the Book of Revelation. Next, continue to view the windmills of Chora, stopping briefly to photograph these once legendary landmarks of the Aegean islands. Afterwards, enjoy a scenic drive around the island to see its unique landscape comprised of rugged hills, land spits, sandy beaches and inlets. Stop briefly at Kambos Square before returning to the port of Scala. Here you will enjoy a refreshment at a local café before having free time to explore this quaint harbor on your own.

Rhodes

Rhodes & Lindos Combined (RHO - 01) - Approximate Duration: 4 hours - Adult: €72 Child: €54

Drive along the scenic southeastern coastline to Lindos, one of the most important of the three great cities of ancient times. Within the city, whose limits are guarded by 13th century walls constructed by the Knights of St. John, stands the Acropolis of Lindos. Rising some 400 feet above the sea, enjoy a spectacular view over the Aegean Sea and St. Paul's Bay, where the apostle cast anchor during his historic voyage to Ephesus. Proceed uphill, on foot, to the great staircase leading from the Hellenistic Portico to the Acropolis and Temple of Athena. Should you wish to make your way by mule, a fee can be paid to the local muleteer. After your guided tour of the Acropolis, enjoy some free time on your own in Lindos before rejoining your motorcoach. Return to Rhodes and enjoy a panoramic drive through the newer developments of the city, continuing to Mount Smith where you will see the ruins of ancient Rhodes, the Temple of Apollo, and Diagoras Stadium. Drop off will be at Porte d'Amboise where you will begin a guided walking tour of Rhodes. View the Palace of the Knights, continuing down Chevaliers Road to meet the awaiting coach at the marine gate for transport back to the ship.

Old City & Philerimos (RHO - 02) - Approximate Duration: 4 hours - Adult: €72 Child: €54

Drive along medieval walls to reach the summit of Mt. Smith, where lies the ancient Acropolis of Rhodes. From the tumbled pillars of the Temple of Athena, the view encompasses the nearby Temple of Apollo, the stadium of Diagoras and the port, once protected by the Colossus of Rhodes. Continue across the island to Philerimos, where later remains include the restored Byzantine Church of our Lady of Philerimos, a chapel with 15th century frescoes, and the ruined Castle of the Knights. Following your visit and some time on your own, return to Rhodes and begin a guided walk of this old walled city to the Porte D`Amboise. Continue along the street of the Knights with its medieval buildings, winding alleys, towers, turrets and emblazoned facades. You will then enter the Grand Master's Palace to admire its decorative interior mosaics. Following your walk, pass through the marine gate to rejoin your motorcoach and return to the ship.

Santorini

Oia Village (SAN-01) - Approximate Duration: 4 hours - Adult: €72 Child: €54

Driving along the road you will have the unique opportunity to admire the panoramic view of the Aegean Sea and the neighboring islands. A unique sight is the various layers of lava that can be seen on the face of the rock, each layer being another phase of the activity of the volcano. Built on the Caldera rim, Oia Village is an excellent example of Cycladic architecture. Explore the village walking along the cobble-stone streets and the white washed houses with blue shutters where one gets the impression that they are a beautiful travel poster. After Oia the bus will drive you up to Athinios, where you will make your own way back to the ship.

Canakkale

Gallipoli (CAN-02) - Approximate Duration: 9 hours - Adult: €93 Child: €73

This full day tour encompasses two of the main sites near Canakkale – the ancient city of Troy and Gallipoli Peninsula Historical National Park. It all kicks off with a drive to the UNESCO-listed city of Troy, where wandering around the ruins, you’ll see the legends from Homer’s “Iliad” come to life before your eyes. The Trojan War and the tale of Helen are just one layer of the many stories this ancient city guards. Then, you’ll continue to the Gallipoli battlefields, starting at Anzac Cove where the Australian and New Zealand soldiers first landed. You’ll move on to the many gravesites and memorials, including Lone Pine Cemetery with its moving views over the landscape. Visit Plugge’s Plateau, where you can still see the trench lines by the path, then Beach Cemetery, Hell Spit, Shrapnel Valley, Brighton Beach and Quinn’s Post. There’s also a stop at the memorial grounds of 57 Regiment Cemetery for a moment’s pause, until the tour comes to a poignant close at Chunuk Bair Memorial.

Full Day Troy & Assos (CAN-03) - Approximate Duration: 9 hours - Adult: €93 Child: €73

From legends to epic love stories, this full day trip to the ancient city of Troy and Assos has it all. Leaving the cruise ship at Canakkale, you’ll firstly drive to Troy, the UNESCO-listed city immortalised in Homer’s “Iliad”. Take a look around the ruins as your guide recounts the myths and myth-busting truths surrounding this exciting old city; scene of one of the greatest battles in Greek mythology, the Trojan War. After some free time, it’s back on the road to the Assos, where the ancient Temple of Athena immediately grabs your attention. Looking out over the island of Lesbos in the distance, you’ll learn all about the city’s links to Aristotle, St Paul and more. Explore the market place and city walls, then sit down for a three-course lunch at a typical restaurant in the ancient harbor of Assos. Afterwards, enjoy a panoramic drive around the old city of Canakkale before boarding the ship once again.

Half Day Troy (CAN-01) - Approximate Duration: 4 hours - Adult: €72 Child: €54

An ancient city with an epic story to tell, both from Homer’s “Iliad” and the 19th century when it was unearthed by German archaeologist, Schliemann. His excavations convinced the world that Troy was more than just a legend, and today you can walk amongst the ruins that bore witness to one of the greatest battles in Greek mythology – the Trojan War – that’s even inspired a Hollywood movie of heroic proportions. During this half-day tour, your guide will recount gripping tales and legends that swirl around the ruins, including how it was demolished and rebuilt nine times. As you stroll around, the glittering waters of the Dardanelles and the Gallipoli hills also capture attention in the distance. Take a look at the modern version of the famous wooden horse, used by the Greeks to trick the Trojans, before returning to the cruise ship in the late afternoon.

Volos

Full Day Mt. Pelion (VOL-03) - Approximate Duration: 9 hours - Adult: €72 Child: €54

A place of unparalleled natural beauty with ethereal villages trickling down its forested slopes, Mt Pelion is the spectacular setting for this eight-hour excursion from Volos. Firstly, you’ll set off into the pine-clad hills to the villages of Milies and Visitsa to amble past old mansions known as ‘archondika’. Then, you’ll wind your way up to the village of Tsangarada, where four settlements are strung along the mountainside, characterised by cobbled piazzas, mansion houses, tree-shaded alleys and views of the Aegean Sea. There’s even a 1,000-year-old plane tree adding to its magic. From here, you’ll go to Damouchari, one of the filming locations for the movie ‘Mamma Mia!’. Recreate one of the dancing scenes, or enjoy a swim and some lunch in your free time. The route then takes you along the top of the mountain to Makrinitsa for a final coffee in the splendid surroundings of its historic square, complete with church, fountain and plane trees.

Monasteries of Meteora (VOL-02) - Approximate Duration: 9 hours - Adult: €84 Child: €59

Seeing really is believing when it comes to the monasteries of Meteora, where after a drive through the countryside from Volos, your eyes will be drawn to the sky as these giant rocks appear out of nowhere. This full day excursion takes you to Meteora to explore the unique geology and landscape of the area with its colossal stones that reach 400 meters in height. At their feet you’ll find the sleepy village of Kastraki, but look up and the UNESCO-listed monastic complex of Meteora is a true surprise. Their spiritual energy is soul-stirring, and out of 30 historical monasteries, six are still in use and open to the public, including the monasteries of Rousanou, Varlaam, Holy Trinity, St Stephen, St Nicholas Anapausas and Great Meteoron. Their exquisite frescoes are a sight to behold, and so are the panoramic views from the top.

Half Day Volos & Mt. Pelion (VOL-01) - Approximate Duration: 4 hours - Adult: €64 Child: €39

Mt Pelion - the mythical land of centaurs - is as beautiful as its fables. Known as the mountain where the gods celebrated weddings and beauty contests, it will appeal to all your senses. This half-day excursion features the traditions and culture of Volos and Pelion with a journey into the hills and to villages suspended in time. You’ll drive to one of the most delightful villages, Makrinitsa, located 700m above sea level, where you’ll leave the coach to wander around its narrow lanes flanked by old houses. Known as the ‘balcony of Mt Pelion’ it affords sweeping panoramas down to Volos and beyond. And each house is built to make the most of the splendid views of the gulf. At the main square, platia, you’ll be able to soak up its otherworldly charm surrounded by plane trees, a tiny church and trickling fountain. Then, make the most of some free time to stroll around the village more, visit the museum or simply sit back in the square with a freshly-brewed coffee in your hand.
