Is This Trip Right for You?
This moderately active trip covers a fair amount of ground each day. Expect from three to four hours walking every touring day. The pace is moderate, however you will encounter some uneven surfaces, stairs, steps and significant slopes. The visit to Neuschwanstein Castle includes a long, steep hike up and down the hillside in order to reach the castle. Inside the castle, there will be a climb of 165 steps and a descent of 118 steps. Some hotels in Lucerne are built in the traditional local style and have no air-conditioning. During heat waves, these hotels can become uncomfortable. This is a Classic program. We loved the experience, and Julian, our tour manager, was AMAZING! Cannot say enough great things about him and how organized and knowledgeable he was throughout the entire trip! This is my third time with Gate 1 and was yet again, a successful trip! It was our honeymoon and the way this was organized was perfect for us and still allowed for plenty of free time. My husband was very impressed and we are already starting to plan our next Gate 1 getaway!!
Abby L. Gilbert, AZ
It was awesome and totally exceeded our expectations. Noel is a real asset to your company always congenial, patient and full of knowledge. Have been recommending Gate 1 to all of my friends and several are looking to plan trips with you! Thanks again for this most wonderful experience.
Katherine D. Miami, FL
The trip was wonderful. Noel was amazing and took such good care of all of us. The rooms, the tours, the knowledge Noel had for his country and for Europe. The local tour guides and the introduction to their towns and the history lessons were fantastic. The bus driver was patient and kind. He kept that bus so clean and kept us all safe. Good job Gate 1!!
Linda J. Lakeside, CA
The Germany, Switzerland and Austria trip was our 15th trip with Gate 1 Travel. Our tour manager Noel was by far one of the best. He was friendly and professional. He commanded control of the group from day one. He stressed safety repeatedly throughout the trip. He gave us plenty of information for each country without overwhelming us. He was able to create harmony among the group, which allowed the tour to be very enjoyable.
John W. Rancho Cucamonga, CA
We had a wonderful trip and enjoyed the experience. Our tour manager, Lidia, was wonderful. Her easy manner and smiling face made the hassle of early mornings and busy schedules worth the effort. This was our first Gate One tour, but, because of Lidia, probably not our last. Additionally, our bus driver, Andrew, was friendly, helpful and an expert in his field.
Steve H. Athens, TN
Very enjoyable. Charlotte, our tour guide, was the best guide we have had on our 11 Gate 1 trips. She made sure everyone had a good time. Charlotte was very organized and provided details such as next day weather, what to expect in the places we went to, and numerous options for our free time.
Francis R. Lancaster County, PA
The trip was excellent. Justin, the tour guide was superb. He helped my friend and I many times, was very knowledgeable and gave details of history wherever we went. The local tour guides were also fantastic. The location of the hotels were perfect and the quality of them was superior. Charles, our bus driver was wonderful. The bus was always clean, the water bottles were constantly replenished. He had a nice, kind personality. Would love to have Justin and Charles on another tour. It was a wonderful experience.
Marsha W. Howell Township, NJ
My trip was wonderful! It surpassed any expectations I had. This was my 8th Gate 1 trip, and I want to especially acknowledge our guide, Georgi, who was truly outstanding in every way and a real asset to Gate 1. He made the history come alive and the current politics of each country fascinating. He was friendly and caring and so enthusiastic about everything. He was the best!
Antonia J. Glen Carbon, IL
Our trip was great. Charlotte, our guide, was very special. I’ve taken many trips and all our tour guides were very good. Charlotte, however, was bubbly, very caring, always on top of things and personable with all her passengers. Our hotels were always in a good location and comfortable according to American standards. The breakfasts were great as always and the excursions and general timing throughout the trip was perfect.
Barbara F. Escanaba, MI
We would like to thank Gate 1 Travel and staff for a GREAT vacation. This trip to Switzerland was everything we had hoped it would be and much more. The itinerary was well planned and allowed for group and personal experiences. We will definitely be traveling with Gate 1 again!
Anthony and Kim D. Saltville, VA
Wonderful! All we have come to expect with Gate 1 and even more. We were blessed with a wonderful Tour Guide Iulianna who not only provided us with excellent information, but was kind, thoughtful, and a great communicator. Romania is a beautiful country that I would recommend seeing! Would go again!
Kathleen P. Ballston Lake, NY
It was wonderful! Nadine (our tour guide) and Reinhard (our coach driver) were beyond amazing! Nadine always made sure we were comfortable and had great suggestions for things to do. Reinhard is possibly the best driver I’ve ever been in a coach with.
Allison V. Wallingford, PA
Our Poland trip was terrific! It far exceeded our expectations and I can’t talk it up enough to friends. That part of the world is so rich with history we loved it.
Debbie C. Oakland County, MI
Awesome! This was the best guided tour we have ever done. We had a great travel group. Michael, our tour leader did a stellar job. Whatever you are paying him….double it. He’s worth it. We saw a part of the world that we knew little about but were fascinated to learn. We will have memories that will last a lifetime. We are already encouraging our family and friends to take the same trip. Keep up the great work. We look forward to our next Gate 1 Travel adventure!
Timothy R. Janesville, WI
Our trip was fantastic! We had a wonderful week in Germany (went by way too fast). My wife and I were talking the other night while we were showing our parents some of the photos we took, and we were in agreement that we would both absolutely travel through Gate 1 again in the future. Our tour guide, Noel, did a wonderful job--he kept us on schedule and kept us engaged and laughing. Only wish I could have spent another week traveling around Europe with him. Overall, I wouldn't have changed a thing about our time in Germany. It was a trip we will always remember.
Collin M. Glen Burnie, MD
I had a wonderful time on my trip. Everything was very organized down to the most minute detail. Our guide Fred and driver Atila were very professional and courteous and made sure all of us were well taken care of and comfortable. It was a lovely experience. I will definitely recommend Gate 1 to my friends.
Adalina M. Miami Lakes, FL
The 9 Day Christmas Market Tour was amazing! Claus our tour leader was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, he knew many interesting anecdotes about the places we were visiting as well as local dishes to try and where a good place was to try them. He kept us on track and was always thinking of our best interests regarding our experience on the trip. He even helped me get to the airport safely to go home by letting me know the right train station to get on at. Konrad our driver, was equally excellent. He knows how to handle a big bus superbly and was always helping load and unload the bags as well as helping some of the older ladies out of the bus. Some of the roads we went down in the bus I would have trouble getting down in my car let alone a vehicle as large as the bus. He was also considerate of our comfort whilst traveling between destinations and would raise or lower the thermostat according to how everyone was feeling. He was also pleasant to talk to and it is nice to be around people who genuinely enjoy their jobs. The same goes for Claus as well. I would definitely go on a Gate 1 tour again as this was such a wonderful experience.
Vicki G. Victoria, Australia
It was SO great! Our tour manager Dominique took great care of us. She always had time for any questions we had, no matter what she was doing at the moment. She always had a smile and was so professional and pleasant. The accommodations were great. Meals were great. The bus was clean and we had a very good driver. Water was supplied every day. Gate 1 took great care of us!
Karen M. Seaford, DE
Our trip was wonderful ... As usual Gate 1 did a wonderful job. Our tour guide Neira was wonderful and so were the other day guides. They are amazing in their knowledge of the areas. The travel was flawless and the places we visited were amazing.
Michelle M. Ulster Park, NY
Exceptional!!!! Joanna our tour manager was outstanding. She made hand-outs, trivia contests, language lessons, tastings, DVDs, music and more. As a retired teacher, I appreciated all the extra time she put in to make her country shine. She even assisted us in finding our Polish roots. Now I know why I like to bake--my ancestors came from a town that perfected the art of making gingerbread. My sister and I do an annual adventure. We are looking forward to #8 with Gate 1 next year.
Paula D. Toledo, OH
As ALWAYS, this Gate 1 trip was absolutely AMAZING. Our guide, Fred, was the BEST. Each time I travel with Gate 1, I think the tour guide has set a new bar. Fred has exceeded that standard of excellence! He was informative, always attentive to everyone's needs and requests, and funny....so funny. Importantly, he kept us safe. He made each and every city and country come alive. In addition, the tour guides in each city were phenomenal. I understand they have a rigorous course of education and testing to become a certified tour guide....well, they too outdid themselves. The history and information that they conveyed simply cannot be garnered from tour books. The hotels were fabulous! I truly don't know how Gate 1 does it, but we could not have asked for better accommodations. And I can't forget Bart, our bus driver. At all times Bart kept us safe. He is so skilled - what an amazing driver. This was a "trip of a lifetime" for my son and I couldn't have been more pleased with the outstanding quality of the itinerary and especially of the tour guides and accommodations. THANK YOU again and again, Gate 1, for another amazing adventure! Looking forward to the next one.
Patricia S. Mesa, AZ
This trip was absolutely fabulous; saw and learned so much about Central Europe. What a memorable experience to help connect and visualize historical events. The people and places were all genuine, personable, positive experiences.
Sylvia K. Reston, VA
The trip to Poland was absolutely amazing! I know I can speak for my family and friends who accompanied me on the trip in saying the everything about the trip exceeded our expectations! We loved the food, the tours, the people, the arts and music! All were beyond wonderful! Our guide Jolanta P. was exceptionally well-versed in all things Polish and gave us an insider's view of the rich cultural heritage of Poland. We will definitely be planning another visit as well as tell all our friends about the fabulous time we had!
Catherine H. Buffalo, NY
I have to tell you that it was a MARVELOUS vacation and tour. Izabella Sliwinski has been the BEST tour guide we have ever had. She has a great personality, considerate, really concerned about the welfare of all the travelers, great suggestions of where to go when there was free time... This was our first experience with Gate 1 Travel and it will not be our last. We were impressed with the hotels chosen, the food, the hospitality of all. The driver was great, the coach was terrific. All I can say is that it was a marvelous time and Thank You for paying attention to details.
Barbara W. Sandia Park, NM
Our trip to Poland was great! Yolanta was a warm, friendly, very well-informed guide, one of the best we have had in our travels ... Franek was an amazing driver. Gate1 seems to have a knack for choosing city guides who love their city and want us to see it as they do. We learned so much about Poland, its people, and its historic cities. We were very impressed with the people and the culture, and of course, the food! Gate1 provides a wonderful experience.
Marge H. Flushing, MI
Our trip to Bulgaria, Serbia, and Romania was great! Excellent tour director, great driver, very interesting sites, good food, & a nice group of folks. Another successful Gate 1 adventure!
Bob K. Punta Gorda, FL
It was fantastic. Bogdan Ouhman from Warsaw Poland was our excellent guide throughout the trip. He was very professional and organized, he took care of everyone. We had a good group of people on the tour-made some new friends. Especially liked Brataslava and Prague, but all of the countries we visited were terrific. Food and hotel accommodations were centrally located and very nice...We will definitely plan on going on another Gate 1 trip in the future.

It was great! The cities, hotels, food, and excursions were all excellent. I really learned a lot about the history of Poland. The best part of the trip however was our tour guide. Joanne was awesome! Her knowledge of Poland really brought the country to life. She made every day fun. The tour was a bit grinding at times but Joanna kept everyone interested with her stories and humor. The tour was very good but Joanna made it exceptional.

It was a fabulous vacation and I can't even begin to tell you how much fun we all had. Julia, our guide, was amazing. She knew so much about everywhere we toured and was an absolute blast and hilarious. My three friends have never been on a tour like this before and they all loved it too. We met some wonderful people and made some new friends. Loved everything about the tour and hopefully, we can plan another one next year.

Our trip was amazing! Dawn, our Gate1 representative, did the best job imaginable!! Everything was planned with precision and she went above and beyond the call of duty! She made sure our time in Europe was a complete success!!

We had a wonderful time with our group specially with the tour manager Noel Percival and the driver Adam. Noel took care of us as if we’re family. Everything was taken care of and we left on time in all of our trips. Adam drove the bus with care and precision navigating the streets which are not as wide as our street here. He also took charge of our luggages as well. As representatives of Gate1 travel, Noel and Adam worked together to make our stay an enjoyable experience. Gate1 should recommend those two on trips to Eastern Europe. Our local guides are knowledgeable of the places we visited especially the Bratislava guide Slovoda who gave as a brief history in a nutshell as well as speaking fluent English. Gate1 is number 1!

We had a great time. Our main tour guide Michael Peir and bus driver Frank were excellent! As were our local guides in each city. I would recommend this trip, and will be looking for future Gate 1 trips.

It was wonderful. Claire was an amazing tour guide. So knowledgeable but also incredibly friendly she really made the trip so easy. The bus was also very comfortable and a great way to see the country side between cities.

It was AWESOME. Our guide Neira was the best ever. We all thought her truly exceptional! The value was amazing and we will definitely travel with Gate 1 again based on this experience.

We enjoyed our trip so much. I cannot speak highly enough of our tour manager, Julian, as well as our bus driver, Tibor. It was our first time to travel internationally and we found the trip to be so easy and fun. We plan on booking another trip with Gate 1 within the next couple of years.

We had a fabulous time on our Christmas Markets tour. Our tour guide was brilliant - very informative and lots of fun.
Gayle C. Duffys Forest, NSW
We had a fantastic time on our trip to the Christmas Markets. It was everything a Christmas Market trip should be. It was cold and we had snow a few times and got snowed on in the markets in Munich as well. We only had one day of rain so we were very happy about that. We had lots of hot mulled wine, bratwurst, sauerkraut, gingerbread and all things yummy at the markets and local restaurants plus enjoyed some of the beer halls along with museums, art galleries, shopping and history. Europe does Christmas so well with all the lights and the atmosphere, everywhere was lovely. Our tour guide Noel was fantastic and we also had a great group and everyone got on really well even though there were 42 of us. We will keep an eye out for other tours and expect we will also not receive Gate1 emails with tour info, specials etc.

The trip was wonderful! Everything went smoothly and the entire experience was so enjoyable! Our tour guide, Clare Murphy, was absolutely the best! She was very clear as to what we would be doing each day, what was available for us to do, where to meet, etc. She handled our group nicely and was cognizant of the different personalities that make up tour groups. She was very well versed in the languages we encountered and obviously has a vast knowledge of the local history, culture and cuisine. We particularly enjoyed the mix of guided tours and free time to explore. Clare was most generous with her time and with providing us with local treats! We appreciated how protective she was and how safe she made us feel. She is an asset to Gate 1 Travel! Our coach driver, Erhard, was excellent and made us feel safe while in his care. His attitude was friendly and we were glad he was driving and we weren't! We were very pleased with our accommodations and were able to enjoy the last few days in Vienna with our newly married daughter and her husband....When we decide to travel again, we will certainly have Gate 1 Travel at the top of our list!

Our trip was wonderful! We thought our tour guide, Noel, was fantastic. He went above and beyond to make sure everyone was having the best trip possible. He even bought us some of the best Austrian strudel we've ever tasted. The sights we saw in Germany,Austria and Switzerland were amazing. We learned so much about history and culture from Noel and the local guides. We even made it to Oktoberfest in Munich, which was an added bonus. This is our third trip with Gate 1 and we hope to do many more with you.

I had a wonderful trip to Switzerland. Our tour manager and guide, Monique was excellent. She was so knowledgeable about the culture and places we saw, and she really helped make the trip so enjoyable. Kurt, our driver, was also great. We stayed in lovely hotels, and the itinerary was wonderful, enabling us to see and do so much. I have visited Switzerland many times, but this was my first time with a tour. I would definitely consider going on another tour with Gate 1.
Joyce Z. Glenshaw, PA
The trip was great. Our tour manager was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We have learned a lot about Switzerland. Swiss people were very polite and friendly. Some towns are amazingly beautiful. The food there was good. Shopping for chocolates and watches was excellent. We have enjoyed this trip very much.

A great experience! Beautiful weather...beautiful blue-green lakes, green pastures dotted w/grazing cattle, goats & sheep...towering white-capped Alps...even the white puffy clouds added to the overall beauty of Switzerland! We loved the sounds of cattle bells, the beautiful music of the long horns, the church bells in all all the little villages & towns...but we did miss hearing the yodeling! Our tour guide...Remo...made it all happen...we loved his wit, his knowledge...first time for a guided tour in Europe, so first Gate 1 experience, and cannot imagine not having Remo for future trips! We hated to leave Switzerland & hated saying goodbye to Remo!

Just returned to Sydney. Everything went very well. Excellent trip. I believe I will be getting a letter from Gate 1 soon. At that time I will highlight the most impressive things about the trip - the crew. The guides, the food and the sights we saw.
