Is This Trip Right for You?
This moderately active trip covers a fair amount of ground each day. Expect to spend two to three hours on your feet during tours. The pace is moderate, where you will encounter some uneven surfaces, stairs, steps and significant slopes. This tour is not recommended for people who have difficulty walking. Hotels in Scotland often encompass the traditional style of the region. You can expect small rooms with low lighting and limited access to electrical outlets. Rooms may lack amenities, including air-conditioning, microwaves, refrigerators, in-room safe, and luggage racks. Meals in Scotland will often take place at your hotel. The food served is local to the region with limited variety. Many hotels have limited restaurant staff and therefore meals can take longer than expected. Some hotels in Galway, Aviemore, Derry and Killarney are built in the traditional local style and have no air conditioning. During heat waves, these hotels can become uncomfortable, even at higher elevations. This is a Classic program. For more information, click here.

We just finished our Gate 1 10 day England & Scotland trip. I wanted to let you know that our guide, Matthew was excellent. He has a great personality, was prepared for any issues, was punctual, made sure everyone know the schedule and was ready to answer questions or address any problem. I could go on and on but I'll just say he was a great guide and excellent representative of Gate 1. Our driver Alan was unbelievable. Don't know how he does it. Our local guides were all great. We were in London during the Queens Platinum Jubilee and we thought that it would be a mistake but Matthew, Alan and the local guide made it incredible. Their knowledge helped our group see once in a lifetime events. Thank you Gate1 and please give a big thank you to Matthew for us.

We were on the eight day England and Scotland classic tour. Our tour guide Elaine did an excellent job in every area of the tour. She was friendly efficient and humorous, never afraid to go the extra mile to help you or to find information. She made every day of the tour something to look forward to and to remember.
Helen J.
Fabulous!!! We had a wonderful time, saw beautiful sites, lots of history, enjoyed the company of our guides and travel friends, and had lots of fun in the process!! Our tour guides worked very hard to accommodate our every need, and put in a lot of extra effort to put in local flavor in each country, and were extremely knowledgeable and eagerly shared their knowledge, which made our trip that much more action packed, beneficial, and enjoyable!! We will definitely travel with Gate 1 in the future, and will highly recommend Gate 1 to our friends!! Thank you for all of your help with our bookings!!
Sharon H.
I would just like to express the excellent job done by our tour manager, David. He made every person on the tour feel special, went out of his way to be helpful in every city by giving personal insight for food and sites to see, and managed to add some bonus sites that were not on the itinerary. Also, our driver, Gerard was exceptional!
Christine R.
Our recent trip to visit the United Kingdom was truly a wonderful venture. Our accommodations were very nice and the places we visited were truly magical. We especially enjoyed the accommodations while visiting Bath. Our tour guide, Kim, was amazing. She was always on the job, even when it was well past time for her to be off the clock. She kept us together and entertained the entire trip. Overall our trip was one will look back on fondly for years to come. We look forward to another gate1 tour in our near future.
Thomas R.
It was wonderful! Our tour guide Elaine was exceptional. I've been on about 15 Gate 1 tours and been pleased with all but one tour guide but Elaine stands in a class of her own. She was organized, personable and truly caring. She went above and beyond on every level. I would appreciate if you would pass that on to the powers that be and to her supervisor. She is an outstanding representative for your company.
Sharon A.
I had an amazing time on your tour of England and Scotland and high praise for all the Gate1 representatives that we encountered. The Tour Guide, David , was so helpful, organized, conscientious, and truly nice to everyone in the group. Our driver, David, and all the local guides - Victoria in London, Paul in Liverpool, and Marina in Edinburgh were friendly and knowledgeable and I can't recommend them enough. The coach stopped enough for us to enjoy local sites and the tea and homemade scones in a Beatrix Potter cottage were a delight. I've always had a good experience with Gate1 and this was the best yet.
Margaret M.
Our tour was perfect from beginning to end. Our tour guide manager Lenny was professional and personable and has a deep understanding of the history of the area which made the experience come alive. He was extremely very good and very flexible. Lenny was outstanding person to spend 14 days with his knowledge of Ireland and Scotland. His knowledge of history we visited was incomparable and second to none. He was clearly passionate about the landmarks he showed us and goes above and beyond his duty as a tour guide / manager of our trip. Many thanks to our driver Brian , Nothing was too difficult or inconvenient for him. OUR TOUR WAS A JOY, EDUCATIONAL AND TREMENDOUS VALUE FOR WHAT WE PAID FOR. OUR THANKS TO TRAVEL 1, LENNY AND BRIAN.

Gate 1's tour guide on the 16 Day Scotland and Ireland was a tribute to your superior offerings; David may be one of your Gate 1's most valuable assets, and he is most definitely one of your best tour guides. Yes, Gate 1's offerings were superior: the stops in both Scotland and Ireland were perfect; the bus was immaculate; and the hotels and their locations were excellent. But, it was David's extraordinary abilities and talents that made the trip truly exceptional. He possessed all the qualities that I have come to expect from Gate 1 tour guides: knowledgeable of the history of the countries and sites visited as well as knowledgeable about local offerings; organized; personable, interesting, and approachable. What sets David heads above the rest is his attention to detail (writing our names on both sides of the name tags so that the name could always be seen); arranging extras along the tour to accommodate requests; giving so freely of his time to ensure that travelers had a good time during independent time; solving problems that clearly were not in his domain, such as clearing dinner dishes and serving coffee and desert when the hotel staff could not due so because of a shortage of workers; etc. What was phenomenal was David's passion for his work: he did not rest until each and every traveler felt that David was his own tour guide and he made sure each traveler was made to feel special, genuinely liked, and cared for come what might. And as if all that was not enough, he was so entertaining and witty that he must surely hone these skills by endlessly practicing. David was "Simply the Best," and therefore Gate 1's Scotland and Ireland trip was as well. Kudos to David for a job well done, and Kudos to Gate 1.
Charlene P.
Thank you Gate one for organizing an amazing trip. The trip was exceptionally wonderful. I had a blast visiting amazing places and meeting fellow travelers. David took great care of us. He has so many great qualities that makes him a superb tour manager. He was knowledgeable, organized, and easy to communicate with. He shared many stories and songs. I was also in awe of Michael's driving skills. He maneuvered that huge bus in narrow places. I will always be a Gate one traveler, because I don't think any company can beat what this company delivers. I should also mention Jim, our guide in Belfast. He was so passionate about sharing the history of his country with us. It truly opened my eyes to the struggle the people of Ireland faces. It's the love of history that makes me appreciate traveling.
Beni M.
Our 16 day Scotland/Ireland tour was over the top wonderful. Our tour manager, Patrick, is the perfect guy for this job. He took total care of us from the minute we arrived at the hotel in Edinburgh until the morning we left Dublin for the airport. I cant say enough wonderful things about him. He shared so many stories that made the history of the beautiful cities come alive. He was an expert on the ancient history as well as current events in both countries. Since my ancestors come from both Scotland and Ireland, every single part of the tour was exceptionally relevant for me. He also shared music from both countries which made the long bus intervals fly by. He was knowledgeable about so many different aspects of the culture. the peoples and why this happened and why that happened. I only wish my former history teachers could have done as good a job as Patrick. Also our driver, Bryan, was also over the top wonderful. How he maneuvered that huge bus down those narrow lanes and around the mountain curves was amazing! and the hotels were also over the top wonderful. Overall our favorite tour so far and we plan to travel many more times with Gate 1 Travel.
Saundra D.
Our trip was great. The places visited were well thought out, the guided tours were great. The guides - especially Shila in Edinburgh - were great, as was our tour manager, Adam. Good overview and introduction of the places visited with a great sense of humor. Our driver, Allen was excellent, not only a good driver, but very enthusiastic towards the passengers. The hotels were nice, and well located. Thank you for the great experience.
Nora S. Budapest, HU
Michelle and I, along with our friend, Roel, had a great two week Scotland and Ireland trip, our fifth tour with Gate 1! We cannot say enough good things about the Tour Manager, Paul, who is not only a great Tour Manager, but is also one heck of a stand up comedian. For all of those long drives between sites and cities, he regaled us with humorous, poignant and instructive stories and dialogue! His supporting cast of drivers, esp. Robbie, and local guides were equally excellent. Other than a heavy rain in Glasgow and on the Ring of Kerry, we had pretty good weather, so we were good with it all. And now for some Scottish talk: "Arrghh, lads n lassies, we better start planning our next wee trip, eh? Aye!"
Walter S. Lakewood Ranch, FL
The trip was everything I hoped it would be and then 50% more than that. Christina was our tour guide. We loved all the information she gave us not only of the history of what we were seeing, but also of how the United Kingdom people of today live. My hands down favorite thing was when we had tea, scones. clotted cream and homemade jelly at the Beatix Potter farm. Looking at a place from the outside is one thing, being invited in is soo much more. Again, Christina made this trip extraordinary and so much fun. Also our bus driver, Dave, was a magician with the bus. He got us into and out of places that were so tight. He was always watching out for our safety as was Christina. That was our first trip with Gate 1, it will not be the last.
Joan S. Saint Paul, MN
My trip, to London, Scotland & Ireland, was very educational and one of the most fascinating yet. A lot was packed into this trip ,however, the sites we visited such as the walled city in Derry, the historic Titantic in Belfast, and Shakespeare's home, as well as the York Minister provided me with great memories. Of importance also were the people on this tour--our tour director, Paul, the bus driver Dan and the thirty-one other passengers each contributed to a wonderful experience. Lillie and I had loads of fun and look forward to our next adventure with Gate 1.
Iris A. Forest Park, GA
Our trip was excellent. Ian, our guide, was excellent and Kevin, our driver, could not be beat as far as safety and courtesy. Whenever we were disembarking the coach one of them was always at the door to assist whoever needed help. If there was a question they did not know the answer to they found it out quickly and got the answer to you. They work very well as a team. This was our first guided tour. The itinerary made sure we saw a lot and learned a lot.
Patrick F. Anaheim, CA
Oh my goodness, where do I begin! This trip was absolutely wonderful. I don’t think there are enough adjectives in the world to describe just how amazing it was. The sights we saw were fabulous. We were so very well taken care of which leads me to our tour guide, Christina! Christina was fabulous. She went above and beyond to make sure all of us were well taken care of. She was a wealth of knowledge, I learned so much from her. She has such a wonderful personality. She was always smiling, happy, upbeat, energetic. An absolutely amazing person. I hope to have her as a future tour guide when I book another trip with Gate 1 because this experience was so amazing I can guarantee you I will be booking with you in the future. I cannot end without giving a huge kudos to Dave our bus driver. Oh my gosh that man is an amazing skilled driver! Those roads were tight and I never once was afraid because Dave knew what he was doing. The other people on our tour were fabulous too. We all had so much fun and in talking with some of them who have traveled a lot they said this was one of the best and how Christina was one of the most amazing guides they have had. The sites were gorgeous the hotels were amazing, everything was perfect. Thanks Gate 1 for an amazing trip. My daughter and I made wonderful memories and met some amazing people who I know we will always keep in touch with. I look forward to scheduling a future trip with your company!
Kris and Bailey F. Collinsville, IL
Our trip was simply - wonderful! England is a beautiful and diverse country. The excitement and wonder of London with its history and majesty, the diversity of its people and the wonder of its new and modern growth was truly a thrill to explore. But the countryside was the highlight of the trip. Beautiful rolling hills with amazing historical farmhouses and cottages in pastoral scenes with sheep and cattle made you feel as if you were in an 19th century English novel. It was just delightful to travel through this amazing country.
William M. Gallatin, TN
Awesome! We had a terrific time and saw some of the most gorgeous scenery in the world. Ian, our tour guide, was excellent. He was so knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. We hated leaving him at the end of the trip. Kevin the bus driver was also awesome. He was so helpful and kind throughout the entire trip and his driving skills were unbelievable. We felt safe all the time no matter what were the road conditions! Everything throughout the trip was first rate...hotels, restaurants, shopping places, and every sight and excursion along the way was beyond fabulous. We will never forget the grand time we had on this trip and hope to be joining Gate 1 again in the future!
Mary and Rick S. Galt, CA
It was absolutely wonderful start to finish. It was great because of David particularly. He was so knowledgeable about everything from the history and stories about areas. He told jokes to make us laugh and played music pertaining to where we were. Our driver Daniel was great too. He always had a hello and greeted us with a smile. The choice of hotels was excellent .... They stopped every two hours so we could stretch out legs mostly at an attraction which broke the monotony of the bus. Will definitely use Gate 1 if we ever do another trip like that.
Barbara N. Virginia Beach, VA
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and plan to use Gate 1 again in the future. We were particularly impressed with our tour group manager, Patrick. He went out of his way to include small events that highlighted the culture of both Scotland and Ireland. He made sure that we were comfortable and having fun. His commentary was informative with just the right combination of humor to keep us interested. We were likewise impressed by our driver Brian who was calm in some very tight spots. His careful driving ensured that we arrived safely and on time at all of our destinations. Thank you Gate 1 for a wonderful experience.
Karen G. Huntington, WV
We really loved our vacation. Our tour guide Elaine made it wonderful. She was courteous and very eager to share information about history and culture of sights visited. She was keen to ensure we all experience local food and culture. She also arranged visit to farmhouse of personal friend for tea and scones. That experience was memorable. Everything was good about the trip. Thanks to Gate 1 for arranging knowledgeable guide and selecting comfortable hotels.
Vivek P. Fremont, CA
I really enjoyed our 12 Day Kaleidoscope of Scotland Tour. Special thanks to tour manager Paul and driver Malcolm for knowing those special locations and local events that added extra touches to our experience.
Vicki F. Southport, NC
Very pleased with our trip to England & Scotland. David, our tour director, was informative, funny & professional. He had a lot of little surprises for our group as we progressed on our trip, so it was never dull but giving us our space as well. We actually lucked out because, Allan, our bus driver, was a skilled & safe driver allowing us to relax as we rode from one destination to another..
Alicia R. Livermore, CA
Our trip was fantastic. I just completed the automated survey but wanted to add a bit more. The trip exceeded my expectations. Everything was well done. We had a wonderful guide. This was our 8th trip with Gate 1 and I hope we will be able to tour with you again!
Kerry E. Winston-Salem, NC
It was wonderful. We had such a good time. Scotland is beautiful and the weather was a pleasure, very little rain. Our guide, Lorna, was wonderful. She was a wealth of information and made this trip so much more interesting. How she remembers all the names and dates is truly a gift. I can't say enough about her, all good things. We really enjoyed ourselves. We had a great group of people on our trip, so much fun.
Nancy and Philip H. Glendale, AZ
The trip was a trip of a lifetime. Everything from our phenomenal tour guide, Patrick & our bus driver, Kevin to the friendly group of fellow travelers, the detailed itinerary and the friendly people of Scotland & Ireland made it all perfect!!! Have been sharing my trip with so many others that hopefully will consider Gate 1 for their travel needs.
Sue S. East Amherst, NY
It was awesome, as Gate 1 trips always are. Our tour guide, Patrick, was just the best. He tended to every detail and went the extra mile for every step of the way. He’s the most organized tour manager we’ve ever had, and that’s saying something, since we have had the best guides with Gate 1. I have to give kudos to the bus driver, Kevin who was so kind, so sweet, and always had a smile and offered a hand every time we exited the bus. The itinerary was great, so glad we chose the trip to Ireland that included Scotland and it’s highlands. A real bonus to the travel experience. Gate 1 is our choice for travel, as this is about our 9th Gate 1 trip, and we are pretty experienced travelers since we’ve been to 40 countries, and many of them with Gate 1. A big thank you goes to Gate 1, and especially the phone reservationists who help us plan great trips and tend to the details from the beginnings. Because of how Gate 1 does their reservations, ... and have been pleased with every Gate 1 tour because of the initial phase of booking the trip and the reservation people, who go the extra mile to make things correct. I like the fact that I can call Gate 1 when there is a concern, and it’s always worked out. So thank you to the great staff at Gate 1 who help your customers when they call in. The trip was great, and looking forward to our next Gate 1 trip in September to Eastern Danube River Cruise. I sing the praises of Gate 1 to family and friends all the time.
Dorothy A. Phoenix, AZ
I had a fabulous time. Cristina our tour guide was just perfect. Informed, pleasant, funny. I don’t think I could have had a better trip. Loved England/ Scotland and would go back again. I look forward to my next Gate 1 trip.
Karen D. Broomfield, CO
We had a great time. Our guide Christina was amazing!!!! She deserves a raise. We loved going to the farmhouse in the lake district. Jill was so friendly and the scones were delicious. Another great trip from Gate 1.

The trip was excellent. Our tour manager John is fantastic. He should have an award for the most caring and detail oriented guide ever. Alan, our tour bus driver, he got us through the narrow pathways and without a doubt, he is the best driver I ever seen. Good job, I will definitely come back to Gate 1 for my future trip.

The trip was terrific. Our tour guide for the week, Elaine was excellent ... She kept us on point, on time and entertained, always with a smile and funny antidotes. Our bus driver David was also excellent, keeping us safe and on time. Each local guide was terrific. This was our 5th tour with Gate 1 and I am sure there will be others. Thanks for a wonderful trip!

This was our first Gate 1 tour, must say that we had a wonderful trip. Our driver, Tommy is an excellent, skilled and professional. Jaime was knowledgeable, organized and extremely helpful. Looking forward to our next Gate 1 vacation.

Our trip was fabulous! Our tour managers were informative, interesting and so much fun. They were helpful in every way! A special thank you to delightful Liz and Paul. We met many wonderful people who we hated saying goodbye to and hope we met again. The special tour guides were amazingly well informed and personable. Their passion and love for their cities was contagious. The trip was well planned and every place we toured was interesting and special. The additional extra tours and dinners were little jewels, not to be missed. We will definitely use Gate 1 to plan our next vacation and have recommended it to our friends. Thank you for giving us such wonderful memories.

Scotland and Ireland trip was more than we expected! We were told by locals that the weather we experienced was the best that they have had in the past five years! We never had to use umbrellas or ponchos. Accommodations were outstanding, food was interesting and surprisingly good, specials were fun and interesting, sights and excursions were interesting, fun, and educational. So many memorable moments. The "Queen" was even at Holyrood Palace while we were in Edinburgh ... Lots of wonderful memories between the beginning of our trip and the close of our trip in Dublin - where we had the opportunity to view the books of Kells of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John ... It was the most congenial group of people I have ever traveled with on any of my trips! Many of us will stay in touch with each other. Our tour guide, Patrick, and our bus driver, Jim, were outstanding...friendly, knowledgeable, funny, caring, lovable. Davis and I will miss them!

We could'nt have asked for a better vacation. Our trip was so wonderful. We enjoyed Scotland and throughly loved Ireland. Our tour guide Francis Carroll, was so informative, educational and such a delight to be with. He made our trip so pleasurable. Our bus driver Brian was a joy too. He skillfully skirted around tight squeezes without a hiccup. Our excursions was great and so were the local tour guides especially Ronin. He gave us a lot of insight of the local area, and made .you want to hear more. A great tutor! We will certainly choose Gate 1 travel again. You made our "go to" list of agencies to use. You will be hearing from us soon.

It was wonderful and packed with charming surprises like Scotch tastings, tea with clotted cream and scones, and morning Irish coffees! It was informative, interesting, and full of an excellent variety of history, culture, beautiful landscapes, and fun! Both of our tour managers were great and we came home with lots of “Christina-isms” and “Cecilia-isms”. And both tour managers took good care of us including box breakfasts on the two days we had to be at the airport early. We also appreciated recommendations on pubs and restaurants such as the Dirty Duck in Bath or the Bracin in Waterford! We plan on traveling again with Gate 1 Travel.

We thoroughly enjoyed our Gate 1 trip to the Northern Highlands of Scotland: great itinerary, interesting sightseeing, top-notch tour director (Lorna Johnson), excellent driver (Malcom), good local guides, companionable group of fellow travelers and each day was carefully planned.

Had a very nice time and saw a lot! The group of people on the trip were all so friendly and fun ~ it made traveling together great. Our guide was also very helpful. My favorites: The Titanic Museum in Belfast: York: and the sheep farm in Westport. Dublin was too crowded for my taste ~ the viewing of the Book of Kells was almost impossible due to the large crowds.

We had an amazing trip of England, Scotland and Ireland. The tour was everything I thought it would be and more ... Francis Carroll was an excellent tour guide. Very informative, personable and helpful man, along with our driver Tommy. I would travel with them again as guide and driver combination.

We had a wonderful time. The weather was perfect. Our tour guide Philip was excellent and the day guides as well. The whisper boxes are an awesome way to communicate. I did not have to keep up fully to hear what was being said. We thoroughly enjoyed all of our destinations especially Edinburgh. All of our overnight commendations were fine and the meals were wonderful. I'm sure we'll be doing other trips with Gate 1 in the future.

The trip was wonderful. We had a great time. Our tour guide, David Reid could not have done a better job. He made our journey very enjoyable. When things went a bit awry, such as a bus breakdown, he kept us all in good humor and did his best to make sure we didn’t miss any of the activities that had been planned. Our bus driver, David, was a true professional. The various local guides did a great job too. Overall, the trip was everything we hoped it would be and more

My trip was amazing every minute. Our tour guide was the best, he was incredible. Michael was on top of every inch of our trip and more. I'm still coming down from this trip, life changing.

It was great. We can’t say enough good things about our tour guide, David Seagrave and our driver, Tommy Doyle. Both were excellent. The stops and photo opportunities chosen for the trip were outstanding. It was a trip of a life time.
