Gondola Ride

One of the experiences of any Italian holiday is a Venetian gondola ride. For centuries, the traditional flat bottom boat has been a major means of transportation in Venice though its primary role today is to take tourists on rides. Gondoliers may seem like "rough-and-ready" characters, however they are actually highly skilled operators constantly working on the perfect balance of this watercraft. The profession, handed down from generation to generation, is regulated by a guild which issues a limited number of licenses to highly trained gondoliers to navigate the narrow spaces of the Venetian Canals. Explore part of the Grand Canal as well as some other hidden minor waterways. The gondola holds a maximum of six passengers. Please note that this is not a private gondola ride. Your gondolier will indicate the seating arrangements to balance the boat and you may not be seated next to your travel companions. Though you may envision the gondolier singing to you, there will only be a musician aboard one of the boats in your fleet of several different gondolas.

Oh my goodness, we truly enjoyed this trip. So nice to see places we've never been to. Our tour Manager Myriam was the best tour manager yet, and we don't say this lightly - we've been on 11 Gate 1 tours! She was engaging, fun, knowledgeable and really kept the trip interactive. We'd love to do another tour with her any time! The hotels and food were fabulous, especially Grand Hotel Miramare. Our bus driver Roberto was excellent. We honestly could offer no criticism. We're looking forward to our next Gate 1 trip!

Our latest adventure with Gate 1 to Northern Italy and the Lakes region to celebrate out 50th anniversary was all one could expect. As this was our fourteenth trip with Gate 1, we have come to expect nothing less than an excellently planned package and we were not disappointed! From the well appointed and conveniently located hotels, the many wonderful culinary experiences we enjoyed to the unique sights and vistas along the way, nothing was lacking. Our wonderful tour guide Sonia was extraordinary in her attentiveness and desire to accommodate, enlighten and educate all participants of our tour. Already looking forward to next fall’s adventure to attend the Passion play at Oberammergau with Gate 1!

OMG, our trip was amazing. The best trip I’ve ever been on. Every detail was perfect. Everything that Gate 1 promised was delivered beyond our expectations. AND, our tour guide Johnny was the best I’ve ever had. I can’t say enough about him. He provided us with so much relevant information every step of the way, and he was extremely likable and witty and loads of fun. He definitely went above and beyond what I would expect of a tour guide. In fact, I would purchase another trip based solely on the fact that he would be my tour guide. Our entire group loved him. He made our vacation perfect, and we also had an exceptionally nice group of people on our tour. Everyone was friendly and got along, and no one was ever late or difficult. As you probably know, in every group there is usually that one person who complains about everything, but, we did not have anyone that was negative in any way. I formed some friendships that I will continue to pursue. The only bad thing is that I will truly miss the wonderful people in our tour group (40 people), but most of all Johnny our tour guide. To sum it up, Gate 1 was like a well-oiled machine. Everything worked perfectly, and you get everything that is advertised. No surprises or hidden costs. You get a high quality tour for a reasonable price. I would recommend Gate 1 to everyone.

Wow! Truly one of the best vacations we have ever had. Dani (tour guide) was fantastic - took special care of my 6'7" husband with seating on the bus and even put together a large table for our family and two other families since our children became fast friends, the driver Luigi lulled everyone to sleep with his excellent driving, all the guides were knowledgeable and the Gate 1 employee that met us at the airport in Naples at 4:00 a.m. was a godsend. We got to know just about everyone (40) personally on the tour and made many new friends. Extremely pleased that there were young people on the trip - my daughter (18 years) really had a great time ... In fact, one of the girls she met is going to Boston University and will be living on the same street as my daughter who will be attending Berklee College of Music and they are just 15 minutes from one another. We are even talking to the other families about another trip to Egypt or Spain!! Yes, this was a great trip from Gate 1 Travel.

This Italy trip was AMAZING!!! A trip which I will cherish for my entire life. Not only did I make some new friends on the tour, but I also wanted to congratulate ViVi our guide tour for an exceptional job. We had a lot of surprises along the way, such as eating lunch at the Vatican city, tasting local espresso in Naples and all of the local recommendations which were made by her. As usual, we all wanted more time in certain areas but knew we were on a time schedule. Definitely will come back to Italy to explore!!! Our driver was exceptional and ensuring we had a good time on the bus during all of our local stops and long drive along the Amalfi Coast. I did a lot of shopping and was very pleasantly greeted by Marianna at the airport who ensured all of my pieces of luggage were taken care of safely and sound, until my arrival back home to the US!! She was amazing!!! I would take this trip a thousand times over, but with Vivi!!! What a phenomenal woman!!! Can not wait for my next trip next year celebrating my 60 bday!!! Thank you for having this trip and making sure you pick the best tour guides!!!

Our trip was amazing. My friend has traveled with Gate 1 several times and recommended highly and I will do as well. Our tour guide Francesca Bensi was outstanding. Everything was perfect.... the hotels, guided tours, restaurants, transportation. I will definitely use Gate 1 for my next adventure. Thank you!

This trip was a dream come true. It was more than perfect. I loved Italy, our tour director Carmine was the best tour director we could ask for. He went above and beyond to make us feel safe (dealing with food allergies) at every stop... This trip exceeded our expectations. The hotels were great, the food, the places... there are no words to describe our experience. To top it all up, our group of people was excellent!

My trip was wonderful! It was so well done! Every detail was taken care of beautifully. The hotels were splendid, very well located and in wonderful condition and very clean. The tours were well planned and went off flawlessly. Michela was excellent! She went above and beyond every step of the way. When I was investigating travel companies I never heard a bad thing about Gate 1 Travel. I can honestly say everyone was right!

Our trip was fantastic. We are so happy with the Gate 1 tour and tour guide. It was all wonderful. Better than we could have imagined. No complaints. Very impressed with the hotels, the meals, the itinerary, the local guides and all the hard work our Gate 1 tour guide put in. His name was Simone'. He arranged so many nice little surprises for us that were above and beyond what was expected. He was a jewel and everyone loved him. The tour eliminated so many hassles for us. We didn't have to wait in lines. All the transportation and tours were on time and we were never left feeling neglected. We can't wait to go on another tour with Gate 1.

Our trip to Montecatini was exceptional much due to our wonderful guide Carolyn and the spectacular Tuscany area. Carolyn was energetic, charming, knowledgeable and you could tell she loved giving the tour every single day. She always had some little extra information which personalized the tour for all. It was also a great group, many repeat Gate1 travelers and some first timers.

Excellent! It was so nice to have everything taken care of for us. Transitions from airport to hotel and back again were smooth as silk! I want to make a special mention of our tour guide for the week, Luca since he made this trip! Organized, but flexible; fun yet responsible… He was amazing!

We had a wonderful trip. I would like to compliment our guide... She also bought “treats” for us at several locations, ending with a notepad from Florence. She made the trip special. We have been on several tours with other companies, and Gate1 certainly met our expectations. The included dinner at the vineyard was beyond what any other company included in the package.

Dorsey, The trip was as fabulous or maybe even MORE fabulous than the first trip to Italy that I took with Gate1 in 2014, if that’s even possible. Vanni was an outstanding guide. One of the highlights of the trip was running into my former tour guide, Mercedes, in St. Mark’s Square in Venice. I traveled alone knowing that I’d be in good hands with Gate1. You certainly went above and beyond to see to my comfort when sending a driver to and from my entry and exit airports, and the group of people I traveled with were hilariously fun! I will definitely choose Gate 1 for all my travel adventures.

Margaret and I had a truly wonderful time. Totally satisfied. Made new friends and enjoyed our trip very much, an experience of a lifetime. Myranne, our main guide, was fabulous and the tour guides at each site were very well informed and made the trip worth while. Hotels, locations and food were great. We were lucky to have perfect weather, late April seemed to be a great time to go. Have told others to use Gate 1.

It was a fantastic trip. We enjoyed the Sicily visit very much. Trip was made special with our tour guide Flavia Condorelli. She made sure we were out on time to allow our bus to be the first tour at all the sites, very knowledgeable on the history of Sicily. Also need to add that the accommodations and lunches/dinners provided were outstanding. The Sicilian food was one of my highlights of the trip.
