Half Day Escorial Tour

Enjoy a visit to what has often been described as the "eighth wonder of the world." El Escorial is, perhaps, Philip II's most enduring legacy to Spain. This combination monastery-palace-mausoleum is situated approximately one hour outside of Madrid in the foothills of the Guadarrama Mountains. This austere monastery, erected by King Philip II in 1584, was intended to be a memorial to his father, King Charles V, and to commemorate Spain´s victory at Saint Quentin in 1557. It has since become the burial place of subsequent Spanish kings and queens.

Approximate tour duration is 4 hours.

Day #3 01 Jan 2017 - 15 Apr 2018 $80.00

Evening Flamenco Show

This evening, enjoy a drink and traditional Flamenco show. As performed by some of Seville's leading Flamenco artists, enjoy routines based on the cante jondo or "deep song," which describes the performer's profound emotions in ancient poetic phrases. Although the development of Flamenco has centered principally in the region of Andalucia, it has come to embrace many of the folk traditions of the northern provinces. As a result, it has become, along with the bullfight, a popular symbol of Spain.

Approximate tour duration is 2 hours.

The trip was great! I've done several Gate 1 escorted tours, and loved (almost) every Tour Manager, but Lisa was stellar! She really went above and beyond her duties. Every evening that we arrived at a new town, she was eager to take the group on a walking orientation tour that wasn't on our itinerary but was greatly appreciated. She is a jewel. I'm already looking forward to my next Gate 1 tour, even though it's not until November. :)

We had a wonderful tour and definitely will be returning to Gate 1 in the future. Luis was an excellent tour leader--very organized, personable and a delight to be around. The guides at each site were also very good. Especially Jose??? who took us through the Prado museum in Madrid; his passion for the art was effusive. Our driver Juan was very good, always had the bus under control and was very skilled at negotiating narrow ramps and streets. The hotel selections were also very good, putting us near the most active city areas for good walking access. The provided meals were excellent. The itinerary was a bit rushed at times but I think that it had to be to cover seven cities in nine days on the ground.

ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS.!!! Have already recommended Gate 1 to several friends. Our tour manager, Lisa was extremely gracious . Every tour guide we encountered was knowledgeable & enthusiastic. In fact my husbands' eyes rolled in the back of his head when he heard we were going to the PRADO. But Jose dissected the paintings to the point that my husband came out of there with an enlightenment about art.

The trip was amazing. We had a great time traveling through Portugal and Spain and made some really good friends from the tour group. Roberto, the tour guide, did an outstanding job and was very knowledge and friendly. He did his best to answer all our questions and to accommodate all our special requests. I would definitely take another tour with him and Gate 1 Travel.

Out trip was wonderful. We saw and experienced so much thanks to our Gate 1 tour guide Caesar. Everyday was planned so that we wouldn't miss a thing worth seeing in Spain and Portugal. The only thing we had to worry about each day was getting to the bus on time and being ready to go. Gate 1's tours allow you to feel safe yet adventurous. We really appreciated the knowledge and experience of the local tour guides. We can't say enough about Caesar. He's was so nice, knowledgeable and worked so hard each day to make our trip the best.

The trip was a very good one, the first I've taken with Gate 1. I was pleased to spend so much time learning about the culture, artwork, architecture and history of Portugal, Spain, Morocco and Gibraltar. I initially was concerned with the large group but the guide, Felipe, was very adept at handling a group of that size. Truthfully, our final days spent in Barcelona with the smaller group was a highlight, be it because of the maneuverability of the city or the city itself. Felipe was actually able to find another Gate 1 group to accommodate some of us so we could attend our final optional tour to the Montsarrat Monastery. The lunch venues he stopped at on our travels between cities were always a very pleasant surprise. The dinners he hosted for your company were absolutely wonderful, particularly the last one where we were all able to sit around one table and talk like friends and 'family' members. It was a wonderful ending to a marvelous 2 weeks.

My trip to Madrid and Lisbon was spectacular for the short period of time we were there. I learned so much about the history and religion of Spain. The cathedrals were breath taking. The museum in Spain the art was so amazing. Lisbon is very colorful and I loved the cobble stone. We went on the Santa Justa Lift and the view of Lisbon was out of this world . This is my second trip with Gate 1 and I can't wait to book more trips.

Our trip was flawless. Gate 1 does an excellent job of hiring knowledgeable, engaging, organized guides. We are always amazed at how each new guide can meet/exceed the previous guide's abilities, but that is what Rui and Jose both did. This trip is a fantastic one. We loved all the optional tours and the site we visited were really interesting. We love it that the guides will make suggestions for free time, restaurants, and easy ways to navigate our various stops. There's no way we would be able to enjoy the areas we visited to the extent we did, without our guides. Thanks for another excellent job; it was our 5th trip, and I'm trying to talk my husband into another one.

Our trip was great. Exceptional kudos to our guide, Alex, who is so warm, funny, and caring. He made sure we were safe and made sure we enjoyed our accommodation and the optional tours. The group rated Alex triple AAA+++. I learned a lot from this trip from Alex and from knowledgeable excellent guides. We are looking forward for another trip through Gate 1.

The trip was outstanding! We took in so much and learned so much. Loved the tour and especially loved our guide, Alex, who was knowledgeable, organized, and so much fun! In fact all the guides were terrific. The weather was beautiful except for a rainy evening in Barcelona. Everything turned out so well. Love Gate 1 and look forward to another tour with your company again one day.

We had the most wonderful trip! We loved Roberto Barrantes, our tour manager, who was SO GREAT! We really appreciated his easy-going manner combined with care and concern for all the tour participants. He was patient with us, fun and funny, very informative about both history and current life in Spain. We also enjoyed all the local guides in the various cities we visited. The sites they showed us were splendid. For the most part, the hotels and meals were very good. In short, it was a great trip. Thanks for all the arrangements.
