Enjoy a visit to what has often been described as the "eighth wonder of the world." El Escorial is, perhaps, Philip II's most enduring legacy to Spain. This combination monastery-palace-mausoleum is situated approximately one hour outside of Madrid in the foothills of the Guadarrama Mountains. This austere monastery, erected by King Philip II in 1584, was intended to be a memorial to his father, King Charles V, and to commemorate Spain´s victory at Saint Quentin in 1557. It has since become the burial place of subsequent Spanish kings and queens.

Approximate tour duration is 4 hours.

Evening Flamenco Show

This evening, enjoy a drink and traditional Flamenco show. As performed by some of Seville's leading Flamenco artists, enjoy routines based on the cante jondo or "deep song," which describes the performer's profound emotions in ancient poetic phrases. Although the development of Flamenco has centered principally in the region of Andalucia, it has come to embrace many of the folk traditions of the northern provinces. As a result, it has become, along with the bullfight, a popular symbol of Spain.

Approximate tour duration is 2 hours.

Day #5 16 Apr 2018 - 31 Dec 2018 $60.00

Our trip was amazing!!! Josep Tio, our tour manager was absolutely fantastic!!!! This was perhaps our best vacation ever!!! We are so happy we chose Gate 1 Travel and selected Spain as our destination. We saw so many beautiful places as well as learned about Spain's history and culture. I am sure every one of us will remember this vacation for a very long time. In the meantime, we can reminisce about eating olives and Manchego Cheese in Puerto Lapice and having churros dipped in hot chocolate in Barcelona.

Special kudos to our wonderful guide, Caesar. He is extremely well educated in the history of Europe and in particular the countries we visited. He went above and beyond to ensure his guests, or friends as he preferred to call us, were made to feel comfortable and welcomed in Spain and Portugal.

I had a wonderful time. We only had 24 people on the tour and they were a nice bunch. It was nice not having to deal with a larger group. There were also some younger people which made it fun. I really enjoyed the cruise and would not hesitate to use the cruise line again

Even though I am not a big fan of cruises, I thought Norwegian's service to be top notch and would use them again to get to areas not easily accessible by other means. We have been to Alaska before and continue to consider it as a top destination.

The trip was fabulous. From the time we landed in Venice, until we departed from the cruise ship, everything went according to the itinerary. The sightseeing venues were spectacular and the side trips to a Tuscan Farm for wine tasting and dining at an authentic Tuscan Restaurant, were memorable. What made the trip so enjoyable and special was our Tour Manager, Vanni. He was organized, timely and extremely knowledgeable of the places we visited. Vanni went beyond the call of duty to make sure a valuable necklace I lost in the Vatican was returned to me before my departure. We met some wonderful people during the tour, but none quite as nice as Vanni.

I will be sure to spread the word about how awesome the trip was to my family and friends. Gate 1 is the #1 Travel Tour Company in my book.

Our trip was amazing, thanks to the efficiency of Gate 1. From the hotel booking to the excursions and Norwegian cruise booking, all were undertaken in a professional manner. Barcelona was one of our favorite cities and the hotel was so conveniently situated as well. The tour company chosen was excellent and as for the cruise, just sheer luxury. We will definitely use Gate 1 again.

12 Day Barcelona with 9 Day Canary Islands Cruise, March 2013

Our trip was perfect. Barcelona is a city with a metro that is easy to navigate and use. Our cruise was beautiful. The Novotel was easily located just a couple of blocks from the metro, with a shopping center directly across the street. We had transport from hotel to the cruise ship which was
most helpful and had no trouble taking public transport back to the Novotel after the cruise.

The Madeira island was just one of the most beautiful places on the earth, the luscious foliage in the parks with statues and water fountains made a statement of the values of the people of this Portugal owned island. The Canary Islands are truly like a paradise. We look forward to working with Gate 1 again in the future!

The trip was great! The transfers and hotel were nice and well located. Half day tour was 6 people on a huge tour bus and we were able to have 4 hours of personal touring. The Norwegian cruise was excellent and the food better than expected. We were quite surprised how good it was! Again, everything was just super.
