Half Day Escorial Tour

Enjoy a visit to what has often been described as the "eighth wonder of the world." El Escorial is, perhaps, Philip II's most enduring legacy to Spain. This combination monastery-palace-mausoleum is situated approximately one hour outside of Madrid in the foothills of the Guadarrama Mountains. This austere monastery, erected by King Philip II in 1584, was intended to be a memorial to his father, King Charles V, and to commemorate Spain´s victory at Saint Quentin in 1557. It has since become the burial place of subsequent Spanish kings and queens.

Approximate tour duration is 4 hours.

Day #3 02 May 2019 - 07 Sep 2019 $90.00
09 Sep 2019 - 23 Dec 2019 $90.00

Evening Flamenco Show

This evening, enjoy a drink and traditional Flamenco show. As performed by some of Seville's leading Flamenco artists, enjoy routines based on the cante jondo or "deep song," which describes the performer's profound emotions in ancient poetic phrases. Although the development of Flamenco has centered principally in the region of Andalucia, it has come to embrace many of the folk traditions of the northern provinces. As a result, it has become, along with the bullfight, a popular symbol of Spain.

Approximate tour duration is 2 hours.

Teresa and I had an amazing vacation, due in part (a major part) to Gate 1. The tour guide, the bus driver, the fellow travelers, the bus, the hotels, the meals, and the daily tours far exceeded our expectations, especially mine. Armand the tour guide was the BEST! We became friends with all our fellow travelers, most of which had traveled on Gate 1 trips before. We look forward in future Gate 1 vacations and working with you.

The Norwegian Cruise was exceptionally nice and enjoyable in every respect. They were very precautionary of health & safety and well being of all guests and they provided us lots of choices for food, drinks and entertainment. 6 Day Barcelona Special, January 2019

Our unguided (no tour manager) trip to Barcelona was wonderful! My wife and I both had some trepidation before going. We had not traveled without a guided format in decades; that forced us to do our homework and plan out our days. We were able to spend more time at the sites that most interested us. We ate at hole in the wall restaurants that knocked our socks off. We went beyond our comfort level, and had an experience we wont forget. Thank you Gate 1!

As usual, Gate 1 did an amazing job. The hotels were all very good, especially the gorgeous one in Madrid. Our guide, Armand, was fantastic. The love of his country of Spain came shining thru in all the insight and enthusiasm that he shared with us. He was very knowledgeable and since I love to learn, he did his job well. In a short 11 day trip we were able to see the highlights of each of the cities. I lost my jacket on the first day and he was able to track it down and have it shipped to our last hotel in Barcelona. His customer service was amazing. I have taken several Gate 1 Tours and I will continue to do so, as it is an excellent value and lots of fun too.

Our trip went very well and we were impressed with our first experience of using Gate 1. We had a great group of people to travel with and our Tour Director Roberta and Driver Miguel contributed much to the success of our holiday. Thanks for your interest and the assistance you gave us to start with.

Gate 1 is continuing to excel! We have (again) enjoyed a wonderful tour with you. Fantastic itinerary, lovely hotels, the best and most knowledgeable Tour Manager (Jose) and a very capable driver (Florentino). Every day brought new and amazing experiences and it just kept getting better! ... Spain and Portugal are beautiful countries with a wealth of history, incredible sights, lovely people and great food. Thank you again, Gate 1 Travel.

Our trip was great! Spain and Portugal were beautiful, much more than I expected, and truly two of the cleanest countries I've ever seen and we travel a lot. I can't say enough about our tour guide, Roberto. He was excellent! ... He would always give us suggestions on things to see and do and eat ... Overall, it was a wonderful trip and Gate 1 did not disappoint in any aspect.

TOTALLY TOTALLY AWESOME! GATE 1 WAS SOO GREAT!! From the start at booking to the final farewell dinner! ... If there was anyway to add more praise , it would certainly fall to our Guide LORI! ... Driver was cautious and courtesy and very helpful as well. GATE 1 is certainly NUMBER ONE!! Looking forward to more adventures with Gate 1

It’s one of the best trips that we had with Gate 1 both fun and entertaining but also educational. We learned so much on history culture people and food of Portugal and Spain. Our guide Jose was wonderful and so were local guides.

Great trip from beginning to end! Beautiful scenery and interesting historical sites along with informative and entertaining guides made for an enjoyable experience. Great hotels and service. Ugo made it look easy driving the bus through some of the narrower streets. What can we say Jose is a traveler's dream - as Tour Director he looked after everything. Everything done with class! Would definitely book with Gate 1 again!

We very much enjoyed the trip to Spain. The tour was very well organized. In a relatively short time we have seen many historic sites and and had a wonderful culinary experience with local food and wines. Special thanks to our tour manager Roberto who was with us during this wonderful trip and who took a good care on every member of the group.

Our trip was amazing. Our tour guide Roberto was the best. He was very knowledgeable and anything we needed he was very helpful. I would recommend this tour guide to anyone. The restaurants were outstanding and all of the hotels were great. We are going to plan an Italy vacation in September of 2019 and will definitely be using Gate 1
