11 Day New Orleans with 7 Day Western Caribbean Cruise, January 2017
Dummy Image

It was another incredible trip arranged by Gate 1 Travel; and felt we got two vacations for the price of one - 3 nights in New Orleans and 7-day cruise to the Western Caribbean. It was such a great contrast to combine both. The Astor Crowne Plaza in New Orleans was perfect - close walking distance to French Quarter, restaurants and sights. Thank you!

It was absolutely wonderful. The scenery was stunning. The hotels were great. The best part of the whole trip was the tour manager, Bacho. He handle everything that was thrown at him in a very professional manner and is very knowledgeable and proud of his country and it showed. This makes me want to go on another Gate 1 tour. Please send him a job well done from me.

10 Day Copper Canyon: Mexico & Phoenix, November 2016

The trip to Copper Canyon exceeded our expectations. At the top of the list of excellence was the Tour Manager, Bacho, who handled all details of the trip from start to finish with efficiency and attention to detail. The hotel rooms were above expectation; the meals were delicious; the itinerary was spectacular, the motorcoach was comfortable, and the interaction with other travelers was delightful. (The weather was a bit colder than expected … but that was the only downside to the trip.) We’ve done a lot of traveling around the United States and the World … and this trip was one of the best. The scenery was breathtaking as we rode the train through this section of Mexico and it was fascinating to interact with the native Tarahumara people in the Canyon region. All other activities on the tour were meaningful and worthwhile. What a marvelous way to celebrate our 48th Wedding Anniversary. Thanks to Gate 1 for their coordination of the trip and thanks to Bacho for his knowledge, his enthusiasm, and his personality.

11 Day New Orleans with 7 Day Western Caribbean Cruise , November 2016
Dummy Image

I had a great time. Everything went smoothly starting with the arrival at the airport in New Orleans and the prepaid transportation to the hotel through the cruise on the Norwegian Dawn. Great weather; great food; cruise guests that were out to have fun and meet new people. The Astor Crowne Plaza is a great location from which to explore New Orleans and the personnel on the Norwegian Dawn wanted to make sure every guests was accommodated and enjoying themselves. Loved the ports, particularly the new private island at Harvest Caye.

This is a very late response to your recent enquiry. I only just returned this week from the Copper Canyon Trip. I decided to spend some time on my own, cruising the California coast. I'm happy to tell you I have no complaints with this Mexican adventure. The trip was well organized, hotels throughout our journey were excellent and we had the good fortune to have a guide and driver who did an exceptional job keeping us entertained, informed and moving flawlessly. I want to thank them, they are responsible for making so much of this trip a memorable adventure. Equally so, I should mention that the "Home Team" performed admirably. All of my questions and reservation were answered and processed efficiently. Thanks to all concerned. This was not my first trip with Gate 1, not my last. So please be ready to handle my next request as well as the last one.

8 Day Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon & Zion National Parks, October 2016

I thought the trip was excellent! This was my first time using Gate 1 and I was very pleased with the experience from start to finish. The initial reservation process was easy. Good information was provided in advance. The trip itself was so well organized and packed in a lot over the eight days. We had an excellent tour guide (Muriel) and coach driver (Jerry). They were really the face of your company on this trip, and you should be very proud of their services. Also, the accommodations were so comfortable, specially Majestic View Lodge at Zion which was stunning! And the baggage delivery to and from our rooms, throughout the trip, was a nice touch! Overall, I feel I definitely got good value for the money spent. So I am already planning to use Gate 1 again, and have recommended it to family and friends who inquired about this trip.

The trip was fantastic, as were our guide, Liz, and bus driver, Jimmy. The trip was very well planned and executed. I learned so much. Liz treated us with lots of info and candy, and her delicious sense of humor. Jimmy is a superior driver, as is his sense of humor. I feel so fortunate.

We had a great time and the fall colors were vibrant and plentiful. Our guide Steve and our driver Joann took very good care of us. We felt safe and informed. Our hotels were very nice for the most part. We had plenty of lobster and butter sauce and clam chowder. We had a very good group of fellow travelers. We use Gate 1 to take us to places that we have never been and don't feel confident enough to go on our own. We made memories to last a lifetime. We are looking forward to our next trip with Gate 1.

It was excellent! My husband and I enjoyed the different scheduled stops we made and the optional tours. Each hotel and resort was wonderful in its own way! Our tour guide Carolyn was friendly and organized and the bus driver Paul did a great job driving on all the winding roads as well as interstates. It was our first experience on an escorted tour and we were very pleased with Gate 1.

It was absolutely fabulous. Karen, our tour director was the best ever, she certainly went above and beyond our expectations to ensure we learned all we could and enjoy our trip. Would certainly travel with her again. Donald, our bus driver was superb, he kept us safe, has a sense of humor, and always, always pleasant and smiling. Loved the itinerary, I feel like I have been to NS and can direct others. Thank you for the great trip.

Our trip was spectacular!! We had the best tour coordinator, Denise Healey, and the best bus driver, Russ Brown. Our group all got along really well and we saw so many beautiful scenes. Lots of bison, deer. We also saw elk and some baby bears. In Yellowstone, we spotted a wolf, which our guide says is a rare sighting. Denise made it so fun with music that fit the mood or landscape, DVD video on some of the history of places and people of the areas we visited. Weather was close to perfect too!

This was one of the BEST trips we have ever been on. Bill (tour guide) was professional, funny, personable and delightful to be with. We would love to be on another tour with Bill as our guide. Vic was excellent as our coach driver. His experience as a driver was second to none. We felt safe and secure with Vic driving. The tour was so beautiful with all the wonderful stops we made...we had no idea that there was so much to see and do in the area travelled. It has left us with the desire to return again and see more of what our country has to offer. We have been raving about this trip to our family and friends. The accommodations were great....even though the stay inside Yellowstone Park was a bit more "rustic" then what we were used to. It added to the ambiance. Our group was wonderful...we truly became "family" as our tour progressed. There were lots of laughs and camaraderie with our traveling companions. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. Gate 1 did a fantastic job all around. Thanks for a memorable trip. We look forward to many more happy travels....

10 Day Classic Alaska, August 2016

Yes, we had a great trip. Our 3rd one with Gate 1 and the best one yet. We had great weather, which always makes a difference, but we also had great Gate 1 service from the time that we arrived at the airport until we departed. The guide, Keri and the driver, Matt were both very familiar with Alaska as Keri was born and raised in Fairbanks and they had both hiked and explored in many of the areas that we visited. It was quite a surprise to all of us on the tour when they told us on the last day that they had never worked together before, because they made an excellent team. We had a great trip! Our guide, Leah, was wonderful - she was organized, respectful to her Gate 1 guests and able to "roll with the punches" no matter what happened. The hotels were nice, especially the final hotel (Little America in Salt Lake City). The meals furnished by Gate1 were all excellent! Little America Hotel in Salt Lake City did an awesome job with the Farewell Dinner we were served there. We enjoyed all the sights and National Parks we toured. This tour covered a lot of distance on the bus, but the sights we saw made it worth traveling that far! I highly recommend it to anyone who has never seen Crazy Horse, Mt Rushmore, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, and Jackson, WY!

Our trip was fantastic! The scenery was gorgeous, a fulfillment of my dream to see some of the West and Rocky Mountain National Parks. The accommodations and food were good. Our tour guide, Timothy, and bus driver, Bob were the best. Timothy was very knowledgeable about the parks, shared the information in an interesting way..even with music and videos and treated us to a few goodies. He was always cordial and friendly to all and smoothed over any ruffles with humor. He was a wonderful tour guide...keep him. I would go on another trip with him. The trip was well run and efficient but allowed the group members some individual time.

This was a wonderful trip, saw great scenery, ate delicious seafood, and learned a lot about the varying cultures inhabiting the Canadian maritime provinces. Our tour manager Karen was pleasant and quite knowledgeable. She managed to keep the crowd engaged with appropriately timed information. A definite highlight was our visit to Hopewell Rocks in the Bay of Fundy during a time when the tide rose dramatically. Peggy's Cove is also spectacular!

The trip was the highlight of our summer travels, excluding our visit with granddaughters in California. Our guide Karen was absolutely the best. I have recommended this trip to several friends, even those who don't really like bus tours. Karen made it so enjoyable. Didn't want to leave Nova Scotia behind us to return to hot, humid TX. Thank you so much for your assistance in making a beautiful memory. Hope to travel again with Gate 1.

Fantastic. We lucked out with weather, but as I told Jay, our tour guide, we have a habit of bringing good weather to tours. This was true of our May Scotland-Ireland Gate 1 tour and also Alaska, China and Australia-New Zealand trips with other companies. Speaking of the tour guide, he was terrific - so knowledgeable, so willing to respond to your every concern, and so entertaining. This was our first guided American tour as we normally plan and execute these ourselves, as opposed to foreign sojourns. In this case, we were very happy that we paid for the guided tour as it eliminated all the planning and uncertainty of a self-guided tour and was a good value to boot. I honestly don't think I could have done this on my own cheaper at the same quality level. The hotels in Rapid City and Salt Lake City were outstanding, especially the Salt Lake City. We are so happy with our decision to extend our journey by one day at either end of the guided tour.

Our trip was amazing. We had a fantastic tour guide - Marianne who was a wealth of information and a ton of fun. Our bus driver, Thomas, was great too and always made us feel 100% safe. All of our hotel accommodations were wonderful - clean, great locations, spacious, good breakfasts. As for Gate 1 - it was our first experience with them, as well as first time doing a tour style vacation, and it totally surpassed our expectations. We will most definitely travel with Gate 1 again and most definitely share our experience and recommend Gate 1 to our friends and family.

Words cannot describe what an amazing trip we had. The beauty of the Canadian Rockies is indescribable. You have to experience it to know what I'm talking about. The choice of hotels was perfect and the excursions made the trip a wonderful adventure. Our tour manager, Robyn McGregor, was exceptional in doing her job. She was so professional in that she became our advisor, our "Mom", our protector, our friend. We were so blessed to have her as our tour manager. Gate 1 has a valuable employee. It is obvious she loves her job and we were the recipients of that love. Kudos for Robyn! Our bus driver, Matthew, was a great driver. He drove that big bus with such confidence. A NASCAR driver could not have done a better job. He went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure we were comfortable and the bus was immaculate. Plus, he had an adorable personality. Again, Gate 1 has a valuable employee. We are so glad we chose the Canadian Rockies Tour to celebrate our 50th anniversary. Thank you, John, for all your help. Look forward to your expertise with another trip in the near future. By the way, our friends, Buddy and Brenda, had a wonderful time.

It was one of our BEST trips ever and we have been traveling all over the world for about 30 years. I (Pam) am already retired and I'm pretty much the one who plans everything. My husband Terry is still working so I work around his self-employed schedule to try to find great travel experiences for us. We have never done a "Bus trip"before and I wanted to try it to see if it's something we might like in our retired years. My husband loves to drive when we go on vacation....and I don't. As we age it's a bit scary to be driving, especially in Europe. Well the great news is that my husband absolutely LOVED this trip and of course I did too. But I didn't expect him to have so many positive things about a road trip where he wasn't in control. The itinerary was what sold us on signing up. We had been to the Grand Canyon about 25 years ago but just drove around and stopped a few times. And we hadn't been to the other stops. Well every single stop was wonderful. And Bryce Canyon and the Grand Canyon were our favorites. But what made the trip the BEST was our tour guide Kelly Thomas and the bus driver Bob. In all our years of travel Kelly was one of the BEST. We have had some very good excursions while on cruises and some good guides but Kelly far exceeded all of them. He is so prepared and well-versed on the tour stops and information about the different areas. I learned so much and actually enjoyed the "learning". As a teacher I tried to get my students to ENJOY learning and Kelly exemplified the true teacher spirit. He loves his job!! He enjoys speaking about all his knowledge....and he speaks in such a way that makes it fun. He gives information ahead of time and he uses handouts to highlight the days & times & stops. And he is very punctual which we loved. Time management is so important and he is right on top of it. Kudos to Kelly!! And we would like to know which tours he leads so we can take another one where he is the guide! Our motels were unbelievable--we did not expect them to be really nice! And the food was good too! The trout dinner at Zion Park was very good. And the box lunch we received at Bryce Canyon was always very good. The options for breakfast times varied nicely so we could go early or a bit later. And having our luggage out an hr earlier than the bus departure time was fine. I was pleased to be able to schedule our airfare times online which worked out great because we wanted to stay a few extra days on Vegas and that enabled us to do so. The optional tour options were good and reasonable $$ and we especially liked the Monument Tour!

It was probably one of the best trips we've taken. Our first time seeing Yellowstone and Mount Rushmore. I think the word awesome is used too often but it was so appropriate on this trip. The trip was absolutely wonderful! The scenery and various landscapes of the area (South Dakota, Wyoming, Idaho, and Utah) were absolutely breathtaking. You always hear about Mount Rushmore and Yellowstone while in school, but seeing it up close was amazing. Our tour guide Jay was excellent -- one of the best tour guides I've ever had while on escorted tours. He was very organized and knowledgeable about the places we visited and knew all the "good places" to go. He was funny, personable and considerate of all on board. He and our bus driver Angel really took care of us during the week, and went above and beyond to make the vacation pleasant for everyone. The tour group was great as well -- I felt like I made 41 new friends on the trip. Thank you for asking. It really was such a great trip, and I was so glad I chose Gate 1 again (I've been on several Gate 1 tours).

The trip was wonderful ... an amazingly beautiful part of our world and the weather was perfect! In particular, our guide, Tom, made it all the more interesting as he is a retired earth science teacher -- he taught us so much about the rivers, mountains, glaciers and trees and how they all tie together. He also made it fun and engaging. We saw quite a bit of wild life. Of course, as in past trips, I met some wonderful people along the way. I was very impressed with Canada in general, and the people, who are most friendly. The people there obviously enjoy and protect their environment. It was very clean. Our hotels and meals, for the most part, were also very good. I look forward to another Gate 1 adventure!

Our trip to Alaska was fantastic. Big Bravos go to both Keri-Lyn, our tour director, and John, our bus driver. *Keri-Lyn worked tirelessly to make sure everyone had a good time, got to do some outside activities and add her commentary on what we were seeing. I don't know how many phone calls or emails she sent out to arrange reservations for people. In our case she helped set up a whitewater rafting experience in Denali, a nature walk in Homer at the Karl E Wynn Nature Center, golf for me at "The Tips" golf course in Homer, plus various museum and restaurant suggestions when we had "free" time at one of our destinations. Also, when riding the bus, Keri-Lyn added commentary that made the bus rides educational and enjoyable. She knew when to talk and when to let us enjoy the scenery. I would give her an A+++!!! *As to Mr. Cleveland, his driving was safe (I'm a behind the wheel driver's ed teacher and always pay attention to other drivers) and handled the bus well. He added some stories of his Alaska experiences and sights which enhanced our Alaskan experience. A+++!!! too. The places we visited were wonderful. The guides and park rangers that gave us private tours were excellent. They answered questions until we ran out of them. Their knowledge of the glacier or the sea life or the scenery in Denali, the train ride from Anchorage to Denali, the Kenai Fjord boat tour, etc... was the best. We learned a lot! :) The hotels and restaurants were also terrific. In one hotel, our TV didn't work and the management replaced it in a timely manner. The manager bent over backwards to get it replaced quickly. Overall this trip was better than I imagined. I knew it was going to be a great trip but it exceeded our wildest dreams. Thank you! PS This is our second Gate 1 trip. It's a pleasure to travel with such a smooth run company. Thank you!

Our trip to the Canadian Rockies was terrific. Our guide, Tom, was excellent. He was very knowledgeable about the geological features of the areas we visited and about Canada in general. Tom had a great sense of humor, very personable, very helpful / considerate of our comfort needs and a great ambassador for Canada. Tom started every morning on the bus with a quote and a song. On the first day of our tour, when Tom said he would do this, the group was a bit skeptical. After hearing the first quote and song, we knew his verbal and musical commentary would be fun and thought provoking as well. My favorite quote described Canada as our attic ... you don't know what beautiful things you will find until you go up there to explore. The itinerary included many stops at points of interest and experiences including the gondola at Sulphur Mountain, the cruise around Spirit Island on Maligne Lake and the Maligne Canyon, the historic hotels built by the Canadian Railway and many, many wonderful vistas. We enjoyed spectacular scenery every day and we enjoyed every minute of this adventure. We were very fortunate to have Tom as our guide. He managed our bus full of 41 travelers very well including the unexpected mechanical problems of the bus that caused a short delay one morning. We appreciate all that Tom did to make this visit to the Canadian Rockies very special for my husband and me. Thank you for great service.

Once again, Gate 1 did an excellent job of their portion of the trip to Alaska. Excellent Guide, hotels, travel arrangements, etc. Along with the beauty of Alaska and the wildlife, one of the most enjoyable portions of you trip was getting to know the other Gate 1 travelers. We have now used Gate 1 on 3 or 4 trips and find that the fellow Gate 1 travelers are well seasoned travelers. I especially like this since I have now hit all 50 states and over 90 countries through travels over many, many years. We love comparing their travels with places we have visited. The trip was AWESOME! I can't believe how many places we saw in such a short time or how beautiful that part of the country is. Our Tour Manager GiGi was a huge part of the success of our trip . . . she keep our tour running like a well run machine, she provided insight and background information about the various places we visited, and was just a delight to be with. I have to admit to being a bit reticent about a motor coach tour - - unsure how comfortable we'd be following a prepared schedule or traveling with thirty some others who we didn't know. We quickly found any fears we had were unfounded. Gate 1 prepared an efficient, fun filled itinerary that perfectly balanced group and individual time as well as ensured we saw all the top sights. And our fellow travelers were wonderful company. It was such an enjoyable experience. We made great memories and meet so many lovely people. I can't say enough about this trip!!!!!! Our national parks tour was one of the best we've ever done.  The itinerary, accommodations, food, driver and guide were wonderful.  I've told friends if I needed to rate this experience 1-10, I'd give it at least a 12!  The itinerary, accommodations and food were all great.  Muriel was a fantastic guide, full of information, anecdotes and printed material to prepare you for each location.  We'd travel with her again in a heartbeat.  If I sound enthusiastic, that's because I am.  Gate 1 will definitely see us again.

Our tour was fantastic. The hotels were outstanding.  Our tour guide Steve was helpful, kind, protective of the group, and the places he took use to see was great. The tree colors were great (one of the main reasons we booked the tour). We were completely satisfied with the tour.  There is no doubt that any future tours we book will be with Gate 1 hopefully with Steve, the tour guide and Paul the bus driver. Thank you for the wonderful tour!

It was fantastic. Our guide, Karen, was informative and so much fun.  Plus the weather cooperated, too. I had been to this area before, but this trip showed me many more sites. Since Karen was so popular with everyone at the sites, we were warmly welcomed.  I've traveled with Gate 1 before and I will again.  Thanks for the opportunity.

We enjoyed our trip very much. We learned a great deal about the ecology, history and culture of Nova Scotia and surrounding provinces in Canada. It was great to have Karen, a guide who is from Halifax, as she is very invested in sharing her knowledge of the area. Karen kept us supplied with hand-outs, maps, brochures, and detailed daily itineraries.  I really liked that she gave us maps to draw on so we would know what our route was when we were on the bus. Some of the bus rides to get from place to place can be long, so it was nice that she had informative and entertaining DVDs, or local music to play for us, as well as talking to us about the area we were visiting. What I appreciate about Gate 1 trips is how much I learn about an area in a short time. The itinerary was varied and we had plenty of free time to explore. My highlights were the Fort at Louisbourg, The Bay of Fundy and Hopewell Rocks, Peggy's Cove, Cape Breton Highlands, (great scenery), the sail on The Amoeba on Bras d' Or Lakes. I have traveled and hiked in the highlands in Scotland in the Western Hebrides, so visiting Nova Scotia and learning more about the area has always been a dream of mine, and the Gate 1 trip did not disappoint. The welcome dinner at a local pub was great, with lobster and mussels. Keep it in the itinerary! Karen is a great guide. She is very upbeat, helpful, and worked very hard to keep us engaged and comfortable. Thanks.

Our vacation was great!! Gate 1 Travel and our tour guide Monica exceeded my expectations. My husband and I had a truly wonderful and memorable vacation. Monica was very knowledgeable about the history and the locations we visited and went over and above to accommodate us and everyone in the group. She made dinner reservations in advance, gave us options in each location for lunch/dinner and sights we may be interested in. At each destination she gave us a tour around town to help us get acclimated to the area and when hiking she clearly explained the trails and options and level of ease or difficulty.

The morning we were at Jenny Lake and suppose to see the Grand Tetons the fog prevented us from seeing them. At our lunch stop the fog lifted and we went back to a perfect location to see them and it was amazing. It was a beautiful and tranquil location and everyone on the trip appreciated the flexibility and were thrilled we got to see the beautiful mountains; it was breathtaking. Also Ken our bus driver was a great guy, friendly, knowledgeable, and a great driver and we always felt safe.

This was the first time my husband and I went on a tour with Gate 1. The only other tour we took was with Tauck and went to Italy a few years ago. My husband and I are so impressed with Gate 1 Travel that we will be customers for life. Thank you, we had an amazing vacation.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip. Everything was planned for us and almost all paid for ahead of our trip. Our guide, Carrie, was wonderful. She is knowledgeable and entertaining. Our driver, Bret, made us feel very safe on mountainous roads. We were glad that we did not have to do the driving. We met some very interesting people as well. The highlight of our trip was definitely visiting Yellowstone. We hope to be able to take another trip with you in the future.

Our trip to the Canadian Rockies was fantastic; and our guide, Diana, the best ever (and we have had some great ones!). The itinerary was well planned and executed perfectly. Diana never missed an opportunity to educate and amuse us at every opportunity. She made sure that everyone had a good and comfortable stay in the hotels and the bus. Water, tea, coffee, stops enroute were very well planned and always in an area that provided for "choices" in the local economy. We enjoyed our seat rotation which gave us an opportunity to meld as a group. Our driver Claude was steady and helpful, a real asset! They both gave us their personal experiences from past visits and interesting facts about the places.

The scenery was spectacular and their unique little side trips made it a vacation to remember! Unfortunately the bears decided to take the same 10 days off.

Again we cannot say enough.

This was our first tour with Gate 1 and was everything that we expected and more. I worked for a tour operator for many years and am very familiar with all of the planning involved to get a tour to come together. This was the best. We cannot think of one thing that we would change (except maybe the breakfast in Jackson, WY).

But none of this would have been possible without the expertise of our tour guide, Carrie. I have led many tours, and my husband and I are seasoned travelers. We know that it is not always easy to please everyone. But everyone on our tour was more than pleased.

Carrie's winning personality, her upbeat nature, and her continual humor helped to make this a trip that we will not forget. She is a real asset to your company and one of the reasons that we will book more tours with Gate 1. She kept us entertained, watched over, and was in command of the tour at all times. She added so much towards making this a wonderful experience.

Thank you so much for this experience.

Thank you so much Gigi and Silvester for doing a good job in making our trip an enjoyable experience and exceeding my expectations of coming home with picturesque memories of America's National Parks.

The trip was one to remember, the tour guide Rick had to be the most organized and knowledgeable guide we have ever had. The bus driver (CHARLIE) was safe and so experienced that he made the trip so good also.

We saw 5 states in 8 days, yes.. there is a lot of seat time on a bus ...the sites were great and we stopped when possible to see even more. Overall we had to keep moving but we would have never been able to travel, stay, eat and enjoy a trip like this on our own.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ...keep other trips like this affordable ...we will go again!!!!

We were extremely happy with our tour of the national parks. This was our first bus tour with any company, and we really did not know what to expect, but you provided a great experience, and one which we could not have duplicated on our own.

The tour guide, Gigi, was excellent, combining friendliness and professionalism. I should also mention the terrific driver we had, who also added a great deal in terms of local knowledge and sunny disposition. Most members of our tour had taken Gate  1 tours before, and one couple were on their eleventh Gate 1 trip. We could see why, and look forward to touring with Gate 1 again, probably for a European tour next time.

There was only one slight problem. When we arrived in Phoenix, the directions for where to meet the shuttle were not complete, i.e., they did not specify if we should be using the north exit or the south exit. Apparently we used the wrong exit, and waited for a shuttle that did not come. I tried calling the numbers provided by Gate 1, including the 24 hr. emergency number, and received a recording informing me the offices were closed and to leave a message - not what I expected from an emergency number. We would up calling the hotel, which sent a shuttle to pick us up, but we were charged $5 each for the service. As we are both new to tours, and nervous travelers as well, this was not an auspicious beginning. But once we were actually at the hotel, and in the hands of our tour director, everything went well.

We were also pleased with the people sharing the tour with us, and plan to stay in touch with a couple of them, and possible share other Gate 1 tours with them.

Best escorted bus trip ever for us, 9.8 out of 10. This is the first time we traveled with Gate 1. We were pleasantly surprised.

a) Itinerary for this US South West National Parks trip was well thought out, with increasingly impressive sights (Wow!) as we traveled from Scottsdale to Las Vegas.

All the stops were well chosen with the right pace and duration for us who are novice hikers.

All the hotels were well chosen - with comfortable beds, sizable rooms. We always felt safe.

We arrived early at the Scottsdale Holiday Inn (11 AM) and they were kind enough to give us our room at around Noon. There was an incident at the same hotel  that night (9 PM - bathroom ceiling water leak, from a bath tub overflow two floors above) and the front desk staff immediately offered us a change of room without hesitation. Please convey to them our thanks.

b) Gate 1 has included all the essential sights in the core package leaving (thankfully) only two optional tours. We skipped the Sedona Pink Jeep tour having been warned that it could be bumpy and bad for our backs.

Some fellow tour members who also skipped the Sedona Pink Jeep tour took the one hour $15 Trolley Tour on their own initiative and were happily impressed. Perhaps Gate 1 would consider suggesting this tour in the future as an alternative?

At Page, we were unexpectedly and tremendously impressed with the Monument Valley optional tour which turned out to be the high light of the whole trip, right up there with the Grand Canyon sights.

c) Our tour manager Muriel is excellent, obviously at the top of her game as an expert guide for the region.

She manages to impart her personal enthusiasm for US West to all of us.

She makes our trip extra memorable by informing us of the region's history, people, literature, flora and fauna, in an interesting and timely manner, with the right pacing and delivery. She reaches out to each member of the tour groups over the week as the tour progresses, making a genuine connection with each of us. We never felt rushed or stressed.

She is the best tour director we have encountered to date.

d) Laurie our bus driver was always cheerful, efficient, steady as well as helpful. We felt very safe with her in the driver's seat. I am glad I took the Gate 1 tour instead of doing a self-drive trip, since the mountain roads can be challenging.

Muriel and Laurie obviously worked well as a team.

e) The included meals were generally of good quality and quantity, reflecting well on the region's cuisine. I especially like the food at the Switchback Steak House (Springdale), dinner and breakfast at Marriott Courtyard (Page), breakfast at Tropicana Casino and "cowboy" lunch at Ruby's Inn (Bryce Canyon).

The Maswik Lodge dinner buffet on April 6 was a disappointment (chicken was dry and bland). Service at Zion Lodge was brusque though the trout lunch was good.

Thanks for a great trip.

The itinerary of this national park tour was excellent and well-planned. We traveled a lot of miles in a relatively short time of 8 days in 4 different states but I never felt rushed or missed anything.

Our tour manager, Rick, was very knowledgeable with national parks as well as all the cities along the way. His commentary was excellent and always included the history, war, geography, food, and cultural background of each destination. I learned so much of American history during the tour. He was very friendly, caring, helpful and always accessible.

We had an exceptional friendly and humorous driver, Paul, on this tour. He was very knowledgeable with national parks and neighboring cities as well. Thank you so much for planning our trip for us. Everything went as planned. All of our reservations were in order and waiting for us. Our plane connections were good. Our rental car was upgraded to an SUV . That gave us plenty of room for our luggage and was comfortable for the four of us to ride together. We enjoyed the Flamingo. The workers there were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our rooms and our breakfast each day. We enjoyed our three days touring the Sonoma and Napa vineyards, the Sonoma beaches and a drive through the redwoods. The vineyards were beautiful as were the trees in their fall colors.

We had a great trip! Everything exceeded our expectations including the accommodations and travel arrangements. We had great weather for this time of year which always adds to the experience. Had a bucket list experience having lunch overlooking the 18th green at Pebble Beach. Thanks for your help in setting up the trip.

The trip was great. Everything went smoothly--even the weather cooperated. Our accommodations, particularly in Napa were wonderful. We received a mid-size car as promised for the three us.
Thank you for all you help.

I had a great time in California. The hotel in Monterey was beautiful! The hotel in Santa Rosa had the friendliest people and very clean with a great location. The car also worked out well.

Thanks for your help in putting it together.

Having never visited California before, this itinerary made it possible for us to see places that we may not be able to visit again. Taking pictures is my passion and having an itenerary such as this one visiting so many places I was able to get some fantastic shots. Thank you all again for making this vacation a "trip of a lifetime". We will definitely use Gate 1 travel again for future vacation plans.

We had a super time. The first day was bad - our flight (9:05am) was cancelled, so American sent us on a 10am flight to San Diego where we were on standby all day and finally got a 5 something pm flight to San Francisco so it was 7 something before we got to SF and then of course, no one knew where our luggage was so it was 11:30pm or so before we got to our hotel. After that we had a wonderful time. We loved the hotel in Monterey; we even had a young deer right outside our balcony one morning. Of course, Napa is beautiful and we went to a lot of wine tastings. Our favorites were - Iron Horse, Jacuzzi, and Cline and we had dinner at the Girl and Fig in Sonoma - wonderful.

Keep us on the mailing list - hopefully we will be doing more travel in the future.

We had a wonderful time and everything worked out well. San Francisco and Sonoma were just beautiful. Now I can scratch San Francisco off my bucket list, but would enjoy going again someday.

Our trip was fantastic! Everything went smoothly--we had a blast. We loved most of the hotels--the only one that was not really so sensational was The Wilshire in LA but the others (The Frank in SF, the Cambria Lodge in Cambria, Portofino in Monterey, the Best Western in Santa Barbara) were all excellent. It was great and we'll definitely use Gate 1 next year!

Our trip was very nice. The flights were fine and the accomodations all very nice. We found all the locations of the hotels to be very convenient, with the exception of Los Angeles where it wasn't near to much. We have recommended your company to several people already, as we were very pleased with your package.

Our trip was wonderful!! Our tour director, Scott, made everything smooth and perfect. He and our driver, Rick, were so knowledgeable which added to the overall tour. And we saw so much wildlife!! We totally enjoyed the entire tour and once again, we are completely satisfied with Gate 1.

Our trip was wonderful.  The hotels were absolutely GORGEOUS and everything was organized and fantastic. All of our reservations (hotel, rental car, airline tickets) were smooth and easy and took less than 5 minutes each!

Thanks for the excellent trip- we are already browsing your site for our next vacation!

We had a wonderful time.  We saw many beautiful sights, and I would recommend the tour to anyone. We did book an additional side tour to see the glaciers.  I had asked our tour guide to make the arrangements for the trip.  My only regret would be that she didn't mention the ocean portion of the tour, and I was briefly sea sick on the tour.  Aside from that, we had a wonderful vacation.

It was excellent, enhanced by amazingly good weather and fortune in seeing a host of wild animals.  According to the Denali Park guides, ours was one tour in a thousand in terms of animal encounters, and we had spectacular views of Mt. McKinley from the train.  Our tour coordinator, Stephanie, was also a delight and very competent.

Overall, it was fine. It could have been outstanding if the weather had cooperated more, certainly not something any of us could control. We made the best of it, even the snow in Tahoe.

The best hotel we had was Hotel Pacific in Monterey, it far exceeded our expectations. We had a very large room, fabulously comfy beds and a nice complimentary breakfast. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.  Our least favorite hotel would be the one in San Francisco (The Pickwick). A very small and old room but in a good location and very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was on our own, but at least there was a coffee pot in the room that helped get us started.  The hotel in Santa Rosa (Flamingo) got us off to a nice start. We enjoyed a very good complimentary breakfast bar there and comfy beds.  The hotel in S. Lake Tahoe, at first, left us wondering, but turned out to be quite nice.

We saw some amazing sights in a short period of time and has prompted talks of a return trip - at some point.

Air transportation = perfect.
Auto rental = perfect but had to pay extra because we wanted a car the whole time in SF.
Flamingo in Santa Rosa = OK. Double beds were too small.
Pacific Hotel Monterey = perfect - best hotel room I've stayed in in years!
Pickwick Hotel in SF = Good. King bed was pretty comfortable. Location excellent.

Overall the trip was great and the price was magnificent.  Thanks again for the whole thing!

The flights worked out, the hotel rooms were really nice at all three places and the car worked out for us because of all the driving we did.  It snowed in Lake Tahoe (which was fun..it was sunny, then raining, then snowing all in one ride around the lake).  The Monterey hotel was great because we could walk to Fisherman's Wharf and did the walking tour around town.

It was wonderful trip.  I'll keep an eye on Gate 1 Travel deals of the week.  It was a pleasure working with you.

What an amazing trip!  Our hotel in Santa Rosa, The Flamingo, was a fun place to stay. Large pool and entertainment each night. It's also located in Sonoma county, which was an extremely short drive to the wineries in Sonoma and Napa. And driving through the countryside couldn't have been any more picture perfect. I'm talking postcard views from every direction that I chose.

A day in San Francisco was just enough time for us to get in all of the sights there. Coit tower, Fisherman's Wharf, cable cars, etc.

Gate 1 did such a great job with the entire trip, I'm sure they somehow arranged for perfect California weather while we were there as well.  I easily recommend this trip, and need to get back there soon!

We had a great time!  Our hotels were quite different. 968 Park Hotel in Tahoe was quaint and really neat for the area.  Pacific Hotel was fabulous. The Pickwick Hotel was what it was, an old hotel, but expected in San Francisco.  Over all the trip was a success.   We had no problems with cars, check in, or locations.
