DAY 1, Thursday - Depart for Panama
Depart on your flight to Panama, a country rich in history and culture, home to many indigenous cultures. Arrive in spirited Panama City, and transfer to your hotel. This evening, enjoy a local Welcome Drink and briefing with your Tour Manager on the journey through Panama
Overnight: Panama City

DAY 2, Friday - Miraflores Locks, Panama Canal and Panama City Tour
Today, start at Miraflores Locks at the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal. Here, view the locks in operation and watch in amazement as over 20 million gallons of water are transferred in less than 10 minutes. The Panama Canal is an astonishing example of modern engineering, considered to be one of the "wonders of the world". More than 12,000 ocean-going vessels pass through it a year - over 30 a day! Hopefully, you will see a freighter passing through the locks today - it will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. After lunch at a popular restaurant, return to Panama City to discover contemporary Panama City. View the magnificent Catedral de Panamá, elegantly dominating the Plaza de la Independencia, the National Theater and the bayside monument to French entrepreneurs who envisioned the Panama Canal. Stop at an artisan market located on the Amador Causeway, a prominent area at the entrance to the Panama Canal in the Pacific Ocean. Upon arrival, try your hand at bargaining with local artists for a wide variety of crafts and local goods. Continue to the ever-expanding modern section before enjoying an afternoon at leisure for personal explorations or join the optional tour to Frank Gehry's Biodiversity Museum. The first building in Latin America designed by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry, the Biomuseo is also located on the Amador Causeway.  Eight galleries and eight "devices of wonder" tell you about the origin of the Panamanian isthmus and its gigantic impact on the planet’s biodiversity. This evening, enjoy a Welcome Dinner with your fellow travelers
Optional: The Bridge of Life: Biomuseo Tour
Overnight: Panama City
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 3, Saturday - Panama Canal Transit Cruise*
Depart for the Panama Canal to board a ship that will take you on a transit cruise of the canal. Begin at Gaillard Cut, the excavated gorge across the Continental Divide, named for the American engineer who supervised this most challenging section of the entire canal project. Then, the boat passes under the Centennial Bridge on the way to the Pedro Miguel Locks. As you enter the first lock, experience a drop into Miraflores Lake that connects to the Pedro Miguel Locks and the Miraflores Locks. Next, enter the Miraflores Locks where the boat is lowered in two different steps into the Pacific Ocean where you sail to the disembarkation point at Amador Causeway after passing under the Bridge of the Americas. After this truly fascinating experience ends in Panama Bay, transfer to your hotel in Soberania National Park, known for its varied and large population of birds
Overnight: Soberania National Park
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 4, Sunday - Lake Gatun Boat Excursion
A huge contrast in scenery as you drive through the lush Panamanian rainforest to the exotic Gamboa rainforest, tucked into tranquil Soberania National Park. Once there, travel by boat on Lake Gatun, the most scenic spot on this famed passage between two oceans. As you cruise into secret waterways, see hidden islands with capuchin and howler monkeys leaping in the trees, various bird species and iguanas that call this paradise home. After a delightful restaurant lunch on the river bank, continue to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to explore independently or participate in the Soberania National Park Aerial Tram with Ecological Exhibitions optional. See the forest from a different perspective in an aerial tram. Glide through the treetops, you will experience the sights and sounds of the tropical rainforest. See Chagres River, Gatun Lake, Panama Canal and Embera Indigenous Village from an Observation Tower before visiting the Ecological Exhibits. After, return to your hotel before tonight's dinner together
Optional: Soberania National Park Aerial Tram with Ecological Exhibitions

DAY 5, Monday - Embera Indigenous Village
Today's adventure begins at Chagres National Park in the eastern sector of the Panama Canal. Here transfer to a "piragua" (paddle dug-out canoe) that takes you on a scenic passage into the jungle to meet the indigenous Embera tribe known as the "keepers of the rainforest." We'll be warmly welcomed with cultural dances and music that hasn't changed much since Columbus arrived. Watch as the women craft baskets out of palm leaves and demonstrate their native art. If time allows, explore some of the local flora and learn about the rituals and medicinal uses. Share a specially prepared traditional meal with the Embera Indians before your return to Gamboa. Transfer to the hotel for an afternoon at leisure or take an optional afternoon excursion to discover the rich historical background of Panama on the Historic Trail of Panama and Canal. Learn about the United States involvement in the Panama Canal and see various sites that were involved in the military aspect of Panama. Dinner tonight at the resort

Arrive at a Pineapple Farm, where you will be able to see the process of cultivating pineapple, the progress of the cultivated seeds and final stage when the fruit is ready to harvest. You will have the opportunity to see the different types of fruit usage and packaging process. The tour ends with a tasting of the different products such as jams, juices, and fresh fruit cuts. Depart the farm for the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute located at Punta Culebra, just outside the heart of Panama City. Experience an open-air museum focusing mainly on marine science and education, conservation and interpretation of marine coastal environments. Most of the constructions here are old military bunkers built during World War I with columns that date back to the construction of the Panama Canal. The Punta Culebra Nature Center allows visitors to take a short journey through Panama's geological, military and natural history, and to learn about marine and terrestrial life through a unique experience. Transfer back to your hotel for lunch. The balance of the day is at leisure. Later, enjoy tonight's Farewell Dinner with your fellow travelers
Overnight: Playa Bonita

After, you move to one of the most historic monuments in Panama that describes the power of a United States Military Base in Panama, the Administration Building. Inside the lobby are various murals used to describe the history of the construction of the Miraflores Locks. Your next visit is the highest point of the City of Panama, the Cerro Ancon. This viewpoint covers the city of Panama and also the Pacific entrance to the Canal. This strategic point was used by the Spanish army in the colonial time to prevent the second city of Panama of an invasion of pirates. Many years later, the United States military used it as a strategic point for communications and also to control invasions from Panamanians or any intention from enemies to get in the canal from the Pacific. You will be able to see the three cities built in the area of the city of Panama and you will see a demonstrated point of view on why Panama has a cultural diversity and influence different from other countries. The expedition continues to explain the strategies and constructions of the United States military to protect the main entrance to the Canal on the Pacific. Visit a military bunker built from one of the Islands that forms the Causeway. See the perception and strategies that the United States conceived to protect the Panama Canal.

My trip was amazing. It exceeded my expectations. Arriving in Guatemala as a "single traveler" I must admit I was a bit nervous. But from the moment I was greeted my the driver that all went away. The guide (Stewart) met me in the AM and my adventure in Guatemala & Honduras were spectacular. I found all aspects of the experience VERY BEAUTIFUL. Our guide was very informative, Stewart took every effort to make sure that we always were engaged, enjoying and comfortable during our travels. All of the Gate 1 arrangements were easy to navigate. I found it so rewarding that I have already recommended to friends.

It was awesome! Our guide Darrio was so knowledgeable. You can tell he really enjoys what he does, and it made the 2-3 hour drives between destinations bearable. He'd ask us frequently if we needed a break to stop somewhere to stretch our legs or use the restroom. The market in Chichi was beautiful and eye opening. The sights were all beautiful as a matter of fact. My 72 year old grandmother and I traveled to Guatemala together and she told me it was one of the best trips she's taken.

This was the first time that I've travelled with Gate 1 and was most impressed. The Tour Director, Stuart, was terrific. He was organized, punctual, well informed, helpful and cheerful. One of the best I've ever experienced and I've taken over 30 organized tours. The accommodations were superb - in an area where I was not expecting 5 star hotels, I got them anyway!! All the breakfasts and dinners were top quality. All in all, the trip was wonderful and I'll not hesitate to travel with Gate 1 again and I'll definitely recommend your company to my friends.

Our trip to Mexico was outstanding especially because of our wonderful guide. Your organization should know how special BACHO is. You are lucky he does some groups for you. We learned so much because of his knowledge of Mexico's History and Natural bird and plant life. He was gracious and kind and extremely detail oriented. We also had a wonderful bus Driver, Michel. Jie Sun and I enjoyed very much our trip to Panama. All the tours were very well organized. We are especially impressed by our tour manager Patricio for his knowledge (not only about each visiting site but also about the country and the world at large), his management skill, his friendly personality, his passion about his home country Panama, and his prefect English (US style). It is certainly a gift to have a person like Patricio to be our tour manager. To have people like Patricio working for Gate 1 is a strong testimony to Gate 1's success in the business of tourism! We will certainly consider joining other Gate 1 tours in the future. Will have no hesitation to recommend Gate 1 to friends for their vacation considerations.

Our trip was better than I anticipated. This was our first visit to Guatemala. From what I've previously read regarding safety issues in that country we were somewhat apprehensive. I literally had to persuade my husband into booking this trip. And, as it turned out from day one our fears were laid to rest (of course we practiced common sense and remained diligent as you would wherever you go). My husband and I throughly enjoyed the visits to all the pyramids as well as the other sites on our itinerary. Tony, our tour guide, couldn't be better. He went beyond what is expected to make our trip informative, fun, and our safety was paramount to him. Gate 1 is soooo lucky to have him!!! This was only our 2nd trip through your company. And now, I know why most of the other travelers have traveled with you repeatedly. My husband said, "I had a great time, our trip was wonderful, I'm so glad you talked me into going".

Our trip was fantastic! This is the first time we have used Gate 1 Travel and everything was beyond our expectations! The country of Panama gave us some fantastic memories of a wonderful guide, Roberto... who went above and beyond to do everything to serve us and see we had every need met, beautiful accommodations, excellent food and service, and a wonderful order of sightseeing that gave us an true sense of the entire country.

We loved the arrangements of the flights, transfers, and communication regarding every aspect of our trip. We have already suggested Gate 1 to friends and acquaintances. We will definitely be looking to use Gate 1 tours again. We felt we met friends through our trip, but we also felt we had friends with Gate 1 that wanted every part of our vacation to be a success!

Our trip to Guatemala was wonderful. Our flights were on time and comfortable and we had wonderful accommodations in Guatemala.

Gate 1 employees were always on time and very courteous. Our tour guides, Stuart and Raual, (I am sure I spelled both names incorrectly) were exceptional. They gave us the best information and could answer all our questions so we learned a lot about the country. The drivers were also really good - we never felt unsafe riding with them. We will recommend your company to our friends and relatives and we hope to be able to take another tour some day.

The trip was great.  Panama was wonderful, very hot but a fascinating place.

It was Colombia that I really fell in love with though.  Most folks thought Medellin was the highlight of the trip but I loved Bogota.  Cool, up in the mountains, filled with people who love to smile, beautiful sights, wonderful and diverse foods.  The scenery on the drive from Manizales to Medellin was as surreally beautiful as any I've ever seen.

Our guide in Panama, Roberto was very good.  Our guides in Colombia, both our tour manager and our local guide in Manizales were well beyond good. They were absolutely wonderful. So thanks for putting this together for me. I hope to do more as far as combining trips like I did on this one.

We very much enjoyed our trip to Panama and Costa Rica.  We have enjoyed traveling with Gate 1 in the past and hopefully, will do so in the future.  Despite warnings from friends regarding safety, virus and bacterial infections, food and water contamination, humidity affecting electronics, sunburn, thievery and muggings, we had no problems.  We trust Gate 1 and, once again, thank you for providing a wonderful and safe trip for us.

Ricardo was our tour guide in Panama.  He was so pleasant and knowledgeable about his country and is such an asset to your company.  We especially enjoyed the excursion to the indigenous village of the Embrera tribe.  What a great experience, memories will last a life time.  We were disappointed that there were no activities offered for the evenings in Panama.  We learned, on our own, of a dinner and Panamanian dance show, which we attended.  Many of our fellow travelers would have liked to attend as well, but did not learn of it until too late.  There were no group dinners offered in the evening, which would have given all an opportunity to enjoy the experience together, such an event would have been nice. Another inconvenience occurred, when our airport transfer driver, who was scheduled to come at 4:30 AM showed up at the hotel at 3:30 AM.

Costa Rica was marvelous.  Zarah was our tour guide.  Wow!  She was terrific and kept us busy all the time with activities, lunches and dinners and overall a great experience.  It was exactly the right kind of trip for us, good food, introductions to different cultures, moderate physical activity, with lots of events to participate in, plus spectacular scenery.

The 5 day trip to Guatemala was the perfect way to spend the long Presidents' Day weekend!  With travel days and time at leisure in Guatemala City the actual tour was just two days, but it provided a wonderful glimpse of this Central American country.  The Barcelo Hotel in Guatemala City was fantastic - lovely rooms, very secure, nice public spaces inside and out, three restaurants with good food and very nice staff.  The tour was with the help of the long established Clark Tours and there were only seven of us on this special Gate 1 itinerary.

Our guide Franz was kind, very experienced, knowledgeable and shared great stories.  The driver Danilo was very talented and super nice.  We visited the lovely town of Antigua, with many restored buildings, some beautiful ruins and full of life.  Then on to Chichicastenango, for an overnight at the very serene and cute Mayan Inn, where every room has a fireplace and your very own attendant will come light it for you, which is a nice touch in the chilly high altitude air.  The restaurant and bar were very nice and the courtyards peaceful.  Staying overnight also allows you to visit the famous Chichi market early on Sunday morning before it gets much busier later in the day. Then on to the beautiful volcanic crater Lake Atitlan which was spectacular. Franz suggested the Sunset Café for a lovely lunch with a lake and volcano vista - heaven to feel the sun after the cold and snow of Connecticut!

So yet again, a flawless trip - my 12th with Gate 1 and more to come for sure! Thank you!

Our trip to Panama was interesting. Everything went smoothly. Ricardo Morales, our tour guide worked very hard and did a wonderful job!  It's always great to be taken care of by a knowledgeable local! Most people on our tour had booked many tours with Gate 1 Travel but it was our first time using your company.  We definitely would travel with Gate 1 again!

Gate 1 Travel is 1st rate with me because it always meets my expectations. Once I get on the plane to whatever destination I am left with 2 questions what to wear and what to eat....Gate 1 looks after all the rest for my entire trip.

This trip to Guatemala & Honduras was exceptional. The group was small only 15. We had a small van with air conditioning which could cope with the rain forest temperatures. It was so easy getting in and out of. No high steps. Luggage was easily loaded and unloaded.

This is a poor country and a lot of the time is spent driving through the countryside. Our guide Tony was super he was able to plan our time so we never got bored. Drives could be long but stops were well planned so we never felt we were killing time. His knowledge of Mayan culture was excellent and he shared his insight as we progressed.

Hotels were excellent with swimming pools. Breakfasts offered anything you could think of but the variety of fresh fruit made them special. Lots of hot water and tons of pillows on the beds.

Tony our guide was exceptional. No one recognized the amount of time he spent planning and carrying out our activities. He was able to recognize very quickly when the temp was too high or the terrain was too difficult. He made arrangements for the less adventuresome and made sure the agenda was completed for those that cared.

Great trip. Super driver along some tricky roadways . Guide with great personality and tuned into his tourists needs. Made our trip to Guatemala a trip to remember.

The trip went very well. I was worried that 5 days wouldn't be enough to see Panama but it worked out very well and I got to see everything and had plenty of time at each of our stop along the way. The tour guide and driver who were with us throughout the three cities and took us to the national park were great. They answered all our questions and were able to pack so much into a few days without making it overwhelming.

Overall a nice package put together by Gate 1, well done.

Our trip to Guatemala couldn't have been any better. We absolutely enjoyed every minute from the flight down there to the flight home. Stewart, our guide, was the best - friendly, informative and helpful. We learned so much about the country from him and his attention to detail made the trip go very smoothly. Guatemala is a wonderful kaleidoscope of colors, perfect for photography, and the people were very warm and welcoming. Thank you for setting this trip up for us. I look forward to our next trip to Bulgaria, Bosnia and Romania.

It was fantastic! This was our first trip with Gate 1 and going to Guatemala. Both far exceeded our expectations! The accommodations, tours and tour guides were excellent! Our tour guides were Antonio (Tony) and Hector.

I traveled with my mom for our first mother/Daughter trip out of the country. It turned out we were one of 3 mother/daughter couples, which made it extra special. My mom even said the tour buses were the most comfortable she had ever been on. We loved the fact that the tours were small and we really got to know the people on our bus, which was super fun!

It was a flawless trip! We can't wait to use Gate 1 again!

It was fabulous especially the overnight stay at the Mayan Inn. The service was exceptional and I couldn't thank the staff enough for the accommodations at the hotels, the tour guide was extraordinary, a gifted man indeed, the bus driver was also warm and friendly, a great driver.

I highly recommend this trip to all my friends. Thank you again for making my trip so memorable.

I enjoyed my recent trip to Panama. I also would like to give Carmen, our tour director, "2 thumbs up!" She was an excellent choice for our tour. She was able to assist our small group of 14 and presented the best of Panama as well.

My next trip will surely be with Gate 1 Travel. I've have already told my co-workers and friends about the great service that your company offers.
