Is This Trip Right for You?
This active program, includes long drives, covering a good amount of ground each day. In return, you will be rewarded with stops at fascinating sites. Expect up to four hours walking on some touring days. A few early wake-ups as well as two seven hour long bus rides, (transit to and from Mexico) and one eight hour long bus ride from Nuevo Casas Grandes to Posada Barrancas are necessary to cover the territory. The pace is fast, however you will encounter some uneven surfaces, stairs, steps and significant slopes. The elevation throughout the program varies and may be a consideration for those who have heart conditions or are otherwise affected by high altitude. Hotels may provide limited amenities. Passports and Visas |
It is each traveler's responsibility to have a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the dates of travel and a visa if required. Please check the information at www.gate1travel.com/visas.aspx for the specific country/region you are visiting for more details. IMPORTANT: Passengers who are not U.S. citizens must check with the respective consulate or a visa agency to determine what personal identification is required. Passengers who enter, leave and then re-enter the same country on their itinerary should check if they require a double-entry visa. Passport applications are available at most U.S. Post Offices, as well as at regional Passport Agencies. Passengers requiring visas, whether obtained in advance or locally upon arrival, should ensure that their passport has blank pages.

Children Under 18 Traveling to Mexico - Special requirements apply to minor children using travel documents and who are not being accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The Mexican National Immigration Institute (INM) requires a consent document for minors (under 18 years of age) traveling if the minor is DEPARTING Mexico, by air or sea, alone or with someone other than a parent or legal guardian who is of legal age (grandparent, uncle/aunt, school group leader, etc.), and is using Mexican documents to travel (birth certificate, passport, temporary or permanent Mexican residency). The US Embassy recommends all minors traveling without both parents carry a notarized consent letter at all times in the event immigration officials request one. Traveling with Friends or Family? |
If you are traveling with friends or family who are booked on another reservation, please make sure that we are aware. On occasion, we may operate more than one vehicle on your tour departure in which case we will ensure that guests will be assigned together. This is achieved by connecting your reservations before your departure. Once you arrive in your destination, it may not be possible to make assignment changes. To check that your reservations are linked, log into https://www.gate1travel.com/res with your email and password, select your reservation number, and check to see that your reservations are indicated as "Traveling With" at the top right side of the display. |
Trip Preparation |
A little pre-planning can make your trip go a lot smoother. Several weeks before your trip, make a list of what you will need to take with you. Make sure your personal documents (passports, visas, driver's license) are in order. Make sure also that you have enough prescription medications to last through the trip and carry them with you in case your luggage is delayed. Bring a change of clothes in your carry-on bag in the event that your luggage is delayed or lost. Lost luggage is common. We strongly urge you to consider carry-ons instead of checked bags when possible, and when checking a bag is necessary, choose a bag color and identification that stands out. We suggest that you make photocopies of passports, visas, personal ID and any other important travel documents and pack them separately from the originals. You may also make a digital copy of your passport to keep a clear picture with the important details in your cell phone or digital camera photos. If you lose the originals while traveling, you'll have copies for easier reporting and replacement. Pack a list of medications including dosage and generic names. You may consider bringing a small supply of over the counter medications for headaches and/or anti-diarrhea pills (especially when traveling outside of the USA and Western Europe). We recommend that you pack a portable alarm clock. Due to security reasons, many museums have restrictions on the size of bags that can be taken inside and backpacks, carry-on bags or large purses may not be permitted. It is recommended to bring a small shoulder bag or purse to use in these situations instead. Avoid placing valuables such as cameras in your checked luggage. Airplane pressure can cause similar pressure in your body, most notably in ears, as well as liquid tubes and bottles. Your physician can suggest medication for decongestion. We suggest that you place liquid containers into Ziploc bags to catch any leaks. |
Travel Safety Advice: The safety of our guests is Gate 1’s #1 concern. Before making the decision to reserve your vacation, we want you to be aware of potential situations which may impact your holiday. While most of the time our programs run precisely according to plans, on rare occasion force majeure events including weather, transportation mechanical issues, or uninhabitable accommodation, civil unrest and even criminal or terrorist activities will present themselves unexpectedly and with little or no notice. Making Telephone Calls from One Country to Another |

About the Zika Virus - The Zika Virus is a mosquito-borne virus mostly found in areas of Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South America. According to the CDC, most cases of Zika are mild. However, there is a potential link between this virus and a brain defect called microcephaly which affects unborn babies and may pose a potential risk to pregnant women. United States - The weather in the United States varies according to geographical area. The hottest period is from June to August and the coolest from November to February. Bring comfortable walking shoes, clothes you can layer, and an all-weather jacket. Sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses are also recommended. You may encounter mosquitoes during warm and hot weather. Travelers are encouraged to bring insect repellent and consider wearing clothing that adequately covers arms and legs. Mexico - Mexico has two main seasons; The rainy season is from June to October, and the dry season is from November to May. The climate changes greatly depending on latitude and altitude. The weather in Mexico is as varied as its geography, which includes tropical forests, arid deserts, fertile valleys and snow-covered mountains. While the Copper Canyon region is warm year-round, it can be quite cool, especially in the evening. The highland region ranges from alpine to temperate, while the canyon valleys are considered subtropical. Bring comfortable walking shoes, clothes you can layer and an all-weather jacket. Seat Assignments |
As a courtesy service, complimentary airline seat assignments are requested on your behalf and, when available, are displayed in order of Passenger #1, #2 and so on. Assignments reflect the best available seats at the time of booking. Some airlines and/or fare types do not allow for pre-seating and require this be done at airport check-in only; in which case the display shows “N/A”. Seats are subject to change by your airline(s) including, for example, when there is a schedule change or equipment change after your initial booking; this may cause seat assignments to be changed or even cancelled. Some airlines offer preferred seating for an additional fee; these seats may only be purchased directly from the airline. You will need your family name and the 6-digit airline “Record Locator” which is displayed with the flight details on your reservation. In the event that you change seat assignments directly with your airline, changes will not be reflected on your invoice or documents. At the time that Gate 1 travel documents are issued, the currently assigned seats will be listed based on the assignments stored in your airline reservation at that time. Luggage & Packing |
Checked bags are typically limited to a total dimension of 62 inches by adding length + width + height (example: 26"+26"+10" = 62”), and a maximum weight of 50 lbs (23kg). Smart Bags with a USB charging port, GPS tracking device and other high-tech features are prohibited as checked or carry-on baggage unless the bag is made with removable batteries and the batteries are removed and stored separately. Many airlines charge for checked bags including flights which begin and end within the USA. The most inexpensive airfare options commonly known as Basic Economy airfares do not include any checked bags nor seat assignments before the day of departure. However, for some airlines, other airfare categories also do not include checked baggage. This will be clearly displayed in our airfare selection and on your invoice. Where available, we highly recommend selecting airfares which include at least 1 piece of checked baggage. Gate 1 Travel is not responsible for checked bag fees, excess luggage or weight charges levied by an airline. Checked baggage allowances displayed on reservation details and invoices reflect the applicable allowance at the time of booking but are subject to change by your airline(s). Avoid placing valuables in your checked luggage. Federal law forbids the carriage of hazardous materials aboard the aircraft in your luggage, your carry-on or on your person. Hazardous materials include explosives, compressed gases, flammable liquids and solids, oxidizers, poisons, corrosives and radioactive materials. Examples: Paints, lighter fluid, fireworks, tear gases, oxygen bottles, and radio-pharmaceuticals. There are special exceptions for small quantities (up to 70 ounces total) of medicinal and toilet articles carried in your luggage and certain smoking materials carried on your person. What to do if You Need Assistance |
Whether you purchased your airfare from Gate 1 Travel or from the airline directly, please bear in mind that Gate 1 Travel does not own nor operate the airline(s), nor the airport facilities where they operate. At times, flying can be a frustrating experience, especially when things do not go exactly as planned, and airline explanations can be confusing or even misleading. Should you face a problem, remain calm and seek assistance either from the airline directly or from Gate 1. Please be aware that in most cases, on the day of your flight(s), airlines pass responsibility for your reservation to their staff at the airport and it is not always possible for Gate 1 Travel to intervene on your behalf, either through our reservations system or directly with your airline. |

Arrival Procedures |
Upon arrival, please complete immigration formalities if necessary and claim your luggage. If your program includes airport arrival transfers, check your voucher for specific instructions, as they vary with every destination. In most cases, you will be met after collecting your luggage or passing through Customs by the local representative who will be holding a Gate 1 Travel sign and/or a sign with your name on it. In some instances you will be instructed to walk a short distance to a transportation counter. The company's name and location will be printed on your voucher. If for any reason you do not connect with the Gate 1 transfer personnel, go to the Tourist Information Desk and ask them to page the Gate 1 Travel representative or phone the number on your voucher. If you are delayed due to lost luggage, phone the number on the voucher or have a companion exit the Customs Area to advise the transfer representative. |
What To Do When Your Flight Is Delayed |
Airlines do not share flight manifest information. Therefore, the only way we may learn of a delay or schedule change while you are traveling is from you, the traveler. The sooner you are able to contact one of our offices, the better we can respond. Please refer to the Emergency Assistance instructions on this same document. Gate 1 Travel is only able to guarantee pre-reserved arrival transfers for up to one hour from the scheduled time, no matter the cause. In case you are delayed for any reason, and are unable to follow the instructions on your voucher, please make independent transfer arrangements and retain your receipts. Unused tour services, including transfers and hotel nights are not refundable. Upon you return home you will need to contact your airline and/or insurance carrier to investigate the possibility of reimbursement for any unused tour services. |
Mexico - For Tucson arrivals only, if you arrive at the start of the tour via a domestic flight which is delayed for any reason causing you to miss the approximately 7AM transfer to Mexico on Day 2, do not route yourself to the nearest airport in Mexico to join the tour. Arrive to Tuscon and contact Gate 1 to have alternative arrangements made to join the group as quickly as possible. This may require multiple unaccompanied transfers. |

Transfers |
Due to local traffic and other extenuating circumstances, we ask that you allow 30 minutes from your scheduled transfer time for our representative to arrive. This includes hotel, airport and cruise transfers. Such possible delays are taken into consideration in scheduling transfers and you should therefore have no concerns about arriving late for your tour, flight or cruise. For transfers from a hotel, let the hotel reception desk or concierge know that you are waiting for a transfer. In the case of a missed transfer, reimbursement for your out-of-pocket expenses will be considered provided you obtain a written statement from the hotel's front desk verifying the length of time you waited, and the time you left the hotel, and a receipt for your transportation with time and date. The cost of a transfer is more expensive than hiring a taxi, as a Gate 1 transfer necessarily includes round trip service, or 'dead-leg'. Often the places of call (airports, seaports, hotels) demand entrance and parking fees, where drivers may have to wait for up to an hour. Gate 1 Travel has carefully selected each hotel based on overall quality, location, price, food, service, and cleanliness. All rooms are standard twin-bedded (two single beds) rooms with private facilities. Special requests such as bed types, smoking preference and connecting rooms are subject to availability. Room selection in all cases, unless otherwise reserved, is strictly at the discretion of the hotel's management on a run-of-house basis. Triple rooms consist of standard twin beds or one double bed plus a sofa/folding bed or cot for third person except in the U.S. and Canada, where triple rooms often consist of two double/queen beds for three persons; where available, a fee may be charged by the hotel for the addition of a cot/rollaway. The number of persons accommodated does not dictate the room size. To ensure a pleasant and fair experience for passengers on our escorted tours, there is a mandatory seat rotation policy on our motor coaches which will be organized by your Tour Manager. On river cruises, color-coded group splits may be used for shoreside included and Optional tours. Some buses are equipped with toilet facility, however they are strictly intended for emergency use only and often require the vehicle to stop for safety reasons before use. When travel dates coincide with religious holidays and national celebrations, some monuments and sites may be closed, sometimes without prior notice. On these occasions, escorted touring itineraries may be amended to reflect these closures. Occasionally, during holidays and certain periods, and/or due to other unforeseen circumstances including weather conditions, there may be last-minute changes, sometimes after arrival, which may affect the sequence of the tour and locations visited. National monuments and tourist sites regularly undergo renovations, which can obscure the monument's view. No tour will be canceled due to renovations, however Gate 1 will decide based on the conditions whether to amend an itinerary. To respect the privacy of all tour participants, your tour manager will not organize a group photo or collect passenger email addresses for a group list. |

These stops are designed to enhance your experience by providing an opportunity to see first-hand quality locally crafted merchandise which you may not be able to find on your own. Shops are checked to ensure the quality and authenticity of the products they offer, and we limit guides from visiting other locations. In some cases, we plan these stops to provide an opportunity to use clean bathrooms and to stretch your legs. Mexico - From street vendors to bustling markets travel in Mexico provides ample opportunities for shopping. Prices can be listed in either Mexican Pesos or in US Dollars. If you are ever unsure, do not hesitate to ask. Bartering with vendors is acceptable varying on region; however, when dealing with indigenous communities it is often seen as insulting. Ironwood carvings in San Carlos and Mata Ortiz pottery in Nuevos Casas Grandes are good regional buys. El Fuerte is known for its beautiful palm hats, woven rugs and hammocks. The Tarahumara people make a variety of baskets and handicrafts. |

If you've purchased an escorted tour program, your travel documents will include telephone numbers of local Gate 1 Travel representatives who will do their utmost to assist you in the event of an emergency. The numbers are printed on your Gate 1 Travel vouchers. Please copy the numbers. Once you relinquish the voucher, you will not have this information. Passengers traveling independently should employ the services of hotel concierges and local authorities. |
Mexico - While we recommend that you apply reasonable caution and common sense when traveling in any country, please be aware that in Mexico, there are significant issues with theft against tourists in public places. Always keep valuables in a safe place and avoid walking alone. It is advised that travelers avoid contact with children, including taking photographs, especially in rural areas. Passengers should not travel alone after dark. Do not take public transportation on buses as these vehicles are targets for robbery. We recommend that taxis be reserved via the hotel concierge desk, and that you do not ride alone when possible. When not possible, we recommend that a hotel, restaurant, or shop call a taxi. As in most parts of the world, be aware of your surroundings and keep to well-lit and populated areas. |

Passports and Visas |
It is each traveler's responsibility to have a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the dates of travel and a visa if required. IMPORTANT: Passengers who are not U.S. citizens must check with the respective consulate or a visa agency to determine what personal identification is required. Passengers who enter, leave and then re-enter the same country on their itinerary should check if they require a double-entry visa. Passport applications are available at most U.S. Post Offices, as well as at regional Passport Agencies. Passengers requiring visas, whether obtained in advance or locally upon arrival, should ensure that their passport has blank pages.

Children Under 18 Traveling to Mexico - Special requirements apply to minor children using travel documents and who are not being accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The Mexican National Immigration Institute (INM) requires a consent document for minors (under 18 years of age) traveling if the minor is DEPARTING Mexico, by air or sea, alone or with someone other than a parent or legal guardian who is of legal age (grandparent, uncle/aunt, school group leader, etc.), and is using Mexican documents to travel (birth certificate, passport, temporary or permanent Mexican residency). The US Embassy recommends all minors traveling without both parents carry a notarized consent letter at all times in the event immigration officials request one. Traveling with Friends or Family? |
If you are traveling with friends or family who are booked on another reservation, please make sure that we are aware. On occasion, we may operate more than one vehicle on your tour departure in which case we will ensure that guests will be assigned together. This is achieved by connecting your reservations before your departure. Once you arrive in your destination, it may not be possible to make assignment changes. To check that your reservations are linked, log into https://www.gate1travel.com/res with your email and password, select your reservation number, and check to see that your reservations are indicated as "Traveling With" at the top right side of the display. |
Trip Preparation |
A little pre-planning can make your trip go a lot smoother. Several weeks before your trip, make a list of what you will need to take with you. Make sure your personal documents (passports, visas, driver's license) are in order. Make sure also that you have enough prescription medications to last through the trip and carry them with you in case your luggage is delayed. Bring a change of clothes in your carry-on bag in the event that your luggage is delayed or lost. Lost luggage is common. We strongly urge you to consider carry-ons instead of checked bags when possible, and when checking a bag is necessary, choose a bag color and identification that stands out. We suggest that you make photocopies of passports, visas, personal ID and any other important travel documents and pack them separately from the originals. You may also make a digital copy of your passport to keep a clear picture with the important details in your cell phone or digital camera photos. If you lose the originals while traveling, you'll have copies for easier reporting and replacement. Pack a list of medications including dosage and generic names. You may consider bringing a small supply of over the counter medications for headaches and/or anti-diarrhea pills (especially when traveling outside of the USA and Western Europe). We recommend that you pack a portable alarm clock. Due to security reasons, many museums have restrictions on the size of bags that can be taken inside and backpacks, carry-on bags or large purses may not be permitted. It is recommended to bring a small shoulder bag or purse to use in these situations instead. Avoid placing valuables such as cameras in your checked luggage. Airplane pressure can cause similar pressure in your body, most notably in ears, as well as liquid tubes and bottles. Your physician can suggest medication for decongestion. We suggest that you place liquid containers into Ziploc bags to catch any leaks. |
Travel Safety Advice: The safety of our guests is Gate 1’s #1 concern. Before making the decision to reserve your vacation, we want you to be aware of potential situations which may impact your holiday. While most of the time our programs run precisely according to plans, on rare occasion force majeure events including weather, transportation mechanical issues, or uninhabitable accommodation, civil unrest and even criminal or terrorist activities will present themselves unexpectedly and with little or no notice. Gate 1 will make the decision to cancel a tour only after receiving verifiable government issued information. We are otherwise obliged to comply with contractual airline and vendor agreements and carry out the tour until or unless we are advised otherwise. Travel Protection can help with medical coverage for illness or injury, trip cancellation and/or interruption, baggage loss, medical evacuation, and more. At any time before you complete Final Payment, you may choose to purchase Travel Protection. The protection plan premium is non-refundable after a 10-day review period. In addition, you must be medically able to travel at the time the premium is paid. Cancel for Any Reason Waiver Benefit (CFAR) is a non-insurance feature that allows you to cancel up to 72 hours before your scheduled departure for any reason not otherwise covered in the Travel Protection Plan. Mexico - Mexico has two main seasons; The rainy season is from June to October, and the dry season is from November to May. The climate changes greatly depending on latitude and altitude. The weather in Mexico is as varied as its geography, which includes tropical forests, arid deserts, fertile valleys and snow-covered mountains. While the Copper Canyon region is warm year-round, it can be quite cool, especially in the evening. Seat Assignments |
As a courtesy service, complimentary airline seat assignments are requested on your behalf and, when available, are displayed in order of Passenger #1, #2 and so on. Assignments reflect the best available seats at the time of booking. Some airlines and/or fare types do not allow for pre-seating and require this be done at airport check-in only; in which case the display shows “N/A”. Seats are subject to change by your airline(s) including, for example, when there is a schedule change or equipment change after your initial booking; this may cause seat assignments to be changed or even cancelled. Some airlines offer preferred seating for an additional fee; these seats may only be purchased directly from the airline. You will need your family name and the 6-digit airline “Record Locator” which is displayed with the flight details on your reservation. In the event that you change seat assignments directly with your airline, changes will not be reflected on your invoice or documents. At the time that Gate 1 travel documents are issued, the currently assigned seats will be listed based on the assignments stored in your airline reservation at that time. Luggage & Packing |
Checked bags are typically limited to a total dimension of 62 inches by adding length + width + height (example: 26"+26"+10" = 62”), and a maximum weight of 50 lbs (23kg). Smart Bags with a USB charging port, GPS tracking device and other high-tech features are prohibited as checked or carry-on baggage unless the bag is made with removable batteries and the batteries are removed and stored separately. Many airlines charge for checked bags including flights which begin and end within the USA. The most inexpensive airfare options commonly known as Basic Economy airfares do not include any checked bags nor seat assignments before the day of departure. However, for some airlines, other airfare categories also do not include checked baggage. This will be clearly displayed in our airfare selection and on your invoice. Where available, we highly recommend selecting airfares which include at least 1 piece of checked baggage. Gate 1 Travel is not responsible for checked bag fees, excess luggage or weight charges levied by an airline. Checked baggage allowances displayed on reservation details and invoices reflect the applicable allowance at the time of booking but are subject to change by your airline(s). Avoid placing valuables in your checked luggage. Federal law forbids the carriage of hazardous materials aboard the aircraft in your luggage, your carry-on or on your person. A violation can result in five years’ imprisonment and penalties of $250,000 or more (49 U.S.C. 5124). Hazardous materials include explosives, compressed gases, flammable liquids and solids, oxidizers, poisons, corrosives and radioactive materials. Examples: Paints, lighter fluid, fireworks, tear gases, oxygen bottles, and radio-pharmaceuticals. There are special exceptions for small quantities (up to 70 ounces total) of medicinal and toilet articles carried in your luggage and certain smoking materials carried on your person. Check the Transportation and Safety Administration (TSA) website www.tsa.gov to find out the current list of acceptable items you may bring on a plane before packing. We recommend that you use brightly colored luggage tags, straps or other identifiers to help you locate you luggage upon arrival or to describe it in the event that it is lost. |
Mexico - If you are arriving from a domestic flight and your luggage does not arrive, do not route your luggage to the nearest airport in Mexico. Advise the airport to send luggage to the Tuscon hotel and join with the group. |

What to do if You Need Assistance |
Whether you purchased your airfare from Gate 1 Travel or from the airline directly, please bear in mind that Gate 1 Travel does not own nor operate the airline(s), nor the airport facilities where they operate. At times, flying can be a frustrating experience, especially when things do not go exactly as planned, and airline explanations can be confusing or even misleading. Should you face a problem, remain calm and seek assistance either from the airline directly or from Gate 1. Please be aware that in most cases, on the day of your flight(s), airlines pass responsibility for your reservation to their staff at the airport and it is not always possible for Gate 1 Travel to intervene on your behalf, either through our reservations system or directly with your airline. |

Upon arrival, please complete immigration formalities if necessary and claim your luggage. If your program includes airport arrival transfers, check your voucher for specific instructions, as they vary with every destination. In most cases, you will be met after collecting your luggage or passing through Customs by the local representative who will be holding a Gate 1 Travel sign and/or a sign with your name on it. In some instances you will be instructed to walk a short distance to a transportation counter. The company's name and location will be printed on your voucher. If for any reason you do not connect with the Gate 1 transfer personnel, go to the Tourist Information Desk and ask them to page the Gate 1 Travel representative or phone the number on your voucher. If you are delayed due to lost luggage, phone the number on the voucher or have a companion exit the Customs Area to advise the transfer representative. |
What To Do When Your Flight Is Delayed |
Airlines do not share flight manifest information. Therefore, the only way we may learn of a delay or schedule change while you are traveling is from you, the traveler. The sooner you are able to contact one of our offices, the better we can respond. Please refer to the Emergency Assistance instructions on this same document. Gate 1 Travel is only able to guarantee pre-reserved arrival transfers for up to one hour from the scheduled time, no matter the cause. In case you are delayed for any reason, and are unable to follow the instructions on your voucher, please make independent transfer arrangements and retain your receipts. Unused tour services, including transfers and hotel nights are not refundable. Upon you return home you will need to contact your airline and/or insurance carrier to investigate the possibility of reimbursement for any unused tour services. |
Mexico - For Tucson arrivals only, if you arrive at the start of the tour via a domestic flight which is delayed for any reason causing you to miss the approximately 7AM transfer to Mexico on Day 2, do not route yourself to the nearest airport in Mexico to join the tour. Arrive to Tuscon and contact Gate 1 to have alternative arrangements made to join the group as quickly as possible. This may require multiple unaccompanied transfers. |

Transfers |
Due to local traffic and other extenuating circumstances, we ask that you allow 30 minutes from your scheduled transfer time for our representative to arrive. This includes hotel, airport and cruise transfers. Such possible delays are taken into consideration in scheduling transfers and you should therefore have no concerns about arriving late for your tour, flight or cruise. For transfers from a hotel, let the hotel reception desk or concierge know that you are waiting for a transfer. In the case of a missed transfer, reimbursement for your out-of-pocket expenses will be considered provided you obtain a written statement from the hotel's front desk verifying the length of time you waited, and the time you left the hotel, and a receipt for your transportation with time and date. The cost of a transfer is more expensive than hiring a taxi, as a Gate 1 transfer necessarily includes round trip service, or 'dead-leg'. Often the places of call (airports, seaports, hotels) demand entrance and parking fees, where drivers may have to wait for up to an hour. Passengers comfortable hiring a taxi on their own and do not require assistance will save money. |

Gate 1 Travel has carefully selected each hotel based on overall quality, location, price, food, service, and cleanliness. All rooms are standard twin-bedded (two single beds) rooms with private facilities. Special requests such as bed types, smoking preference and connecting rooms are subject to availability. Room selection in all cases, unless otherwise reserved, is strictly at the discretion of the hotel's management on a run-of-house basis. Triple rooms consist of standard twin beds or one double bed plus a sofa/folding bed or cot for third person except in the U.S. and Canada, where triple rooms often consist of two double/queen beds for three persons; where available, a fee may be charged by the hotel for the addition of a cot/rollaway. The number of persons accommodated does not dictate the room size. Although available at most 4 and 5 star hotels, the use of air-conditioning abroad differs greatly from the United States, and is often shut down at night and from the end until the start of the summer months. Some lodges and accommodations in remote regions may not have all of the amenities, such as hairdryer, alarm clock and room service, that you might find in a larger hotel located in a city center. |
United States - Hotels in the United States are generally local or international chains of standard quality with a variety of amenities. Locally owned properties may have features that encompass the style of the region. Hotels in the National Park regions often provide limited amenities and due to limited outdoor lighting in the evenings, a flashlight is recommended. About Your Sightseeing |
To ensure a pleasant and fair experience for passengers on our escorted tours, there is a mandatory seat rotation policy on our motor coaches which will be organized by your Tour Manager. On river cruises, color-coded group splits may be used for shoreside included and Optional tours. Some buses are equipped with toilet facility, however they are strictly intended for emergency use only and often require the vehicle to stop for safety reasons before use. When travel dates coincide with religious holidays and national celebrations, some monuments and sites may be closed, sometimes without prior notice. On these occasions, escorted touring itineraries may be amended to reflect these closures. Occasionally, during holidays and certain periods, and/or due to other unforeseen circumstances including weather conditions, there may be last-minute changes, sometimes after arrival, which may affect the sequence of the tour and locations visited. National monuments and tourist sites regularly undergo renovations, which can obscure the monument's view. No tour will be canceled due to renovations, however Gate 1 will decide based on the conditions whether to amend an itinerary. To respect the privacy of all tour participants, your tour manager will not organize a group photo or collect passenger email addresses for a group list. |

Most people enjoy bringing home at least one souvenir from the countries they visit. However, some find any amount of shopping to be too much while others never find enough opportunities. We have built into our Escorted itineraries a few shopping stops at recommended spots. These stops are designed to enhance your experience by providing an opportunity to see first-hand quality locally crafted merchandise which you may not be able to find on your own. Shops are checked to ensure the quality and authenticity of the products they offer, and we limit guides from visiting other locations. In some cases, we plan these stops to provide an opportunity to use clean bathrooms and to stretch your legs. All shops want your satisfaction, and therefore in case of any misunderstanding they ask that you kindly submit your claim to us within one week of the item's receipt. Claims submitted later will be subject to each store’s policies. While shopping independently, we advise you to exercise care and common sense when making any purchase. Always get a formal receipt. Mexico - From street vendors to bustling markets travel in Mexico provides ample opportunities for shopping. Prices can be listed in either Mexican Pesos or in US Dollars. If you are ever unsure, do not hesitate to ask. Bartering with vendors is acceptable varying on region; however, when dealing with indigenous communities it is often seen as insulting. Ironwood carvings in San Carlos and Mata Ortiz pottery in Nuevos Casas Grandes are good regional buys. El Fuerte is known for its beautiful palm hats, woven rugs and hammocks. The Tarahumara people make a variety of baskets and handicrafts. |
Your Safety is Very Important |

If you've purchased an escorted tour program, your travel documents will include telephone numbers of local Gate 1 Travel representatives who will do their utmost to assist you in the event of an emergency. The numbers are printed on your Gate 1 Travel vouchers. Please copy the numbers. Once you relinquish the voucher, you will not have this information. Passengers traveling independently should employ the services of hotel concierges and local authorities. |
Mexico - While we recommend that you apply reasonable caution and common sense when traveling in any country, please be aware that in Mexico, there are significant issues with theft against tourists in public places. Always keep valuables in a safe place and avoid walking alone. It is advised that travelers avoid contact with children, including taking photographs, especially in rural areas. Passengers should not travel alone after dark. Do not take public transportation on buses as these vehicles are targets for robbery. We recommend that taxis be reserved via the hotel concierge desk, and that you do not ride alone when possible. When not possible, we recommend that a hotel, restaurant, or shop call a taxi. As in most parts of the world, be aware of your surroundings and keep to well-lit and populated areas. |

Meals & Dietary Requests |
Included meals are based on the restaurant's buffet or set menu. Beverages are not included, unless specifically stated. Although special diets like Vegetarian and Vegan are relatively commonplace in the USA, much of the world's menu options are more provincial. Mexico - While it is generally safe to eat fully cooked meats and vegetables, care should be taken to avoid undercooked meat and uncooked fruits and vegetables. It is advised to stick to food from reputable vendors. Because tap water is not potable, visitors should only drink bottled water or water that has been boiled and filtered. Avoid ice, as it is usually made from tap water. |

My main reason for providing this feedback is to praise our wonderful guide, Manuel. This was our 5th Gate1 adventure and Manuel was the best we've had so far. I nicknamed him "Professor". He was incredibly knowledgeable about every aspect of this region of Mexico. As a naturalist, he excelled in his knowledge of the flora and fauna of the region as well as the history, geography, geology and culture. He arranged for amazing entertainment that usually accompanied our dinners (either before or after). His walking tours were very informative. His organization skills were spot on as he kept our group on time, safe and healthy. No one got sick under his guidance as we were all well informed about the need for timeliness, when and where we could eat/drink safely. His personality was well received by the group adding some humor and wit to the mix. He's been a guide for a long time and his experience really showed. Truly an exceptional guide and I hope Gate1 treats him well!

I will run out of superlatives trying to describe our first Gate 1 trip, to Colonial Mexico. In short, it was extraordinary. All the challenges of beginning the tour in Mexico City during a Grand Prix Formula 1, a country-wide celebration of Dia de Los Muertes, and a big Futball playoff were handled with grace and patience by our Tour Manager "Bacho". Every excursion, every logistical challenge, every pre-arranged meal was smooth and easy for everyone. Bacho made sure we were all cared for, and even more importantly his warm hospitality created an enjoyable traveling "family" that fostered many new friendships and connections within the group. The bonus for us was being in Mexico celebrating Dia de Los Muertes with each community we visited. Beautiful colors, beautiful costumes, fiestas....it will be a cherished memory! Though our very first Gate 1 tour, it most certainly won't be our last. Muchas Gracias Gate 1!

This was our first experience with Gate1, we were very impressed. From the accommodations, the food, and sights we were extremely pleased. The most impressive was Skye our tour guide. She was very knowledgeable about the sights, and information specific to the sight. Especially where to hike, specific trails etc. This was extremely helpful since we're not hikers. Skye kept us informed the entire length of the trip, we couldn't ask for a better guide. We would travel with her on all of our future adventures with Gate1.

My trip was excellent! It was the first time I traveled with Gate 1. The tour to colonial Mexico was fabulous! The tour guides were superb . Liliana, María, Erick were exceptional at their jobs as tour leaders. Aurelio, the bus drive, was skillful and always alert. He made the tour bus an exquisite coach ride for all. He was caring and thoughtful for each and everyone on the tour bus. He always had a beautiful smile to greet us. Liliana , our principal Gate1 tour guide and escort throughout the trip was a genius! Her knowledge of each of the towns and cities was extraordinarily vast. Her enthusiasm for the history of her country was brilliantly shared throughout the tour. Her charm, her meticulous manners to safety and care of each participant can not be overly stated. Liliana is a gem of a Gate1 tour escort. She connected with each person as a friend for always. I look forward to seeing her again on another Gate 1 tour. This was an excellent trip. The locations of the hotels was excellent. The accommodations were greatly appreciated and very comfortable. I usually do not write reviews, and since I am from the Michigan, I was not expecting to experience anything really special during 10 day fall foliage trip to New England since Michigan does have a full foliage season. With that said----My trip was AWESOME! I don't know where to start. Our tour guide, Bobby was high energy, fun, engaging, creative, knowledgeable and very accommodating to everyone on our tour. There were 42 people on our tour and he did his best to make sure everyone and everything was taken care of but at the same time we did not feel like he was hovering or bossy. He has great historical knowledge and a lot of very silly jokes. The foliage in the different states along with visiting all the historical landmarks along the way was great. The time riding on the bus was fun, not boring. He made sure everyone was comfortable and had a plan even in our free time. Even after the tour was over, he came with us to lunch at a really nice Italian restaurant on the north end. Emil the bus driver was excellent professional and very courteous. He even dropped some of us off after hours at a restaurant so we would have to walk a long way in the dark in a strange city. The tour was pretty active, and I put in at least 15,000 steps on most days, but It did not ever feel like it. I enjoyed the freedom trail in Boston, the Trinity Church was beautiful, we went to the national monument of the Forefathers, and several other "surprise stops" all while staying on our time schedule and seeing the sites on the scheduled tour. My favorite spots were Mt Washington and everything in Maine. My next vacation was already planned before I went on this trip and now I regret that I did not book it through Gate One, but I do plan on going to Yellowstone with Gate one sometime next year, especially if I can catch Bobby's tour.

It was wonderful! We had a large group (42) but everyone went with the flow & didn't complain about anything, even riding the road to Hana in a heavy downpour. We realized all the rain made the waterfalls that much more beautiful. Esther was a perfect guide, the embodiment of the aloha spirit. A little of aloha must have rubbed off on the group. She was always patient & never too tired to answer our many questions. She did a beautiful song & hula for us at the closing banquet which brought tears to our eyes. Esther is a remarkable woman & Gate 1 should be proud to employ her. Thanks for a wonderful trip to Hawaii. We'll be traveling with Gate 1 again soon!

We enjoyed everything about our trip to Hawaii and it exceeded our expectations. It is definitely a once-in-a- life time experience! Tour manager Esther and bus drivers are excellent; they had incredible knowledge and in-depth insight on Hawaii Islands and its history. We were able to travel at a certain pace, stop and take pictures or just rest as needed. We learned about Hawaiian history, art, culture, food, agriculture, plants, flowers, religion and much more. Esther and bus drivers used Hawaiian words and explained their meaning. All of our transfers between airports, cities, hotels and tours were well planned and we felt very well taken care of. Hotel accommodations and food on each island were great. Esther and drivers were friendly, helpful, and considerate and took very good care of us. We were very happy with our enthusiastic tour guide and drives - they went above and beyond to make our trip special; they were great and spoke excellent English. Time and money well spent!

Our tour was fabulous. Our tour Manager Timothy was great and had a lot of attention to details. He also stop in some bonus places that were not in the schedule, provided educational material like videos, music for us to learn about the culture of the indians, cowboys, etc. He really showed that he cared for us to be able to enjoy a great tour. be loves his job, we can tell. All the hotels were great, specially the Little America. They gave us a special rate for those of us that had to deal with the hurricane in Florida and stayed an extra night or two. The hotel provided extra breakfast tickets, and the personnel were outstanding. I would stay in that hotel anytime. The driver Mike was also excellent and we felt safe with his driving skills. Also a very nice person. As always Gate 1 scored a 10 out of 10 on this tour.

The trip to Hawaii was wonderful. The itinerary really gave us the opportunity to see and learn about Hawaii with its colorful flowers everywhere, waterfalls, mountains, and volcanoes. The hotels were nice and comfortable. The included meals were great (other than a cold boxed breakfast). Everything went smoothly including bus pickups, admissions to parks and sites, and flying to the two islands. Esther, our tour leader, was well organized and the bus drivers/tour guides were very knowledgeable about Hawaii and what we were seeing. We especially liked visiting Pearl Harbor and the USS Missouri and Volcanoes National Park. The Luau was nice too, and just a short walk from our hotel. Thank you for putting together this amazing trip.

It was a great trip. Our tour guide (Ivan) was a very experienced tour guide. Everything was arranged so smoothly and even problems came up, he was able to solve them in a timely manner. I would recommend Gate 1 to anyone who likes to travel. Job well done!

I have been on 5 Gate One Trips. The tour manager for this southwest parks tour, Garrett, was the best I have ever had. He provided us with so much information, facts, and history of the areas we were visiting. He showed us relevant videos, maps, and pictures. When at the national parks, he didn't just point out the trail to take.....he led us on the entire trail and pointed out things for us to see. He was concerned about our comfort and health during 100 degree days, and altered schedules and stops to accommodate the heat. I hope I can travel with Garrett on another trip.

I want to write a personalized recommendation about Dani, our tour guide for the recent Michigan-Detroit-Mackinac Island- Chicago trip. Dani was outstanding and very detail-oriented. We experienced the culture of each place we visited through the food, the extra videos she provided about Mackinac Island, and the recommendations she gave and helpful tips about time use while on our own at each location. I cannot praise her enough for her astute leadership. I'm signing up for two more GATE1 trips for next year!

We recently returned from Alaska's Natural Beauty Discovery Tour. We just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our vacation. From the time they picked us up at the airport until we finished our tour everyone was professional and courteous. Our tour guide, Liz, was wonderful. Her knowledge of the area was superb. She was always concerned about the safety of the group and went out of her way to ensure everyone had a wonderful time. She even organized optional hikes on our free time and went with us to ensure our safety. When our plane ride was canceled due to inclement weather, she organized a glacier walk to fill the void. We really enjoyed that part of the trip the most. I hope you will let her know how much we appreciate all she did for us. We would also like to complement our driver, Steve. Not only did he keep us safe on some pretty difficult roads but he always helped us on and off the bus to ensure our safety. He also lives in Alaska and had a lot of incite to all the areas we visited. He and Liz work so well as a team that they really enhanced our trip. We have been on 10 Gate 1 trips but this combination of tour guide and driver were the best we have ever had. We would really appreciate it if you could let them know how much they were appreciated. They did an awesome Job!!!

My wife and I just returned from our trip to see some of the best US national parks. Our guide was Kerry with Mike the driver. What an exceptional trip! Kerry provided so much valuable information, I started to think that he lived in the parks. He led us to so many beautiful sites that I did not know existed. Trip to Mt. Rushmore to Salt Lake City was FANTASTIC! Tim is one of the best guides I have ever had; I have been traveling with Gate 1 over 25 times and Tim ranks way up high mainly because he is very organized and he provides us with a lot of great information and keeps us entertained with DVDs that is relevant to our trip during the long drive from one state to another. Our Hawaii trip was amazing and our fellow travelers were among the nicest people which whom we have ever traveled (this was our 8th Gate 1 trip). Our tour leader, Esther (AKA Keala, her Hawaiian name) did a great job keeping this large group on track. While Gate 1 had noted there were no official transfers at the origination and departure airports, Esther went above and beyond to help people arrange travel to the airport (OGG) from our departure hotel in Lahaina. She also was helpful in coordinating our luggage and check-in processes for our two flights during the tour (Oahu to Big Island and Big Island to Maui). This was greatly appreciated and made those two flights so easy for us travelers. As with our previous 7 Gate 1 trips, we felt safe and in good hands throughout. Thank you, as always, for a memorable experience.

I'd just like to say that our tour guide, Keala, was fantastic. She was terrific in letting us know "local" flowers/trees/reptiles/mammals/places/museums/stores/historical sites/restaurants/etc. She was very immersed in the Hawaiian culture. Keala used Hawaiian words and explained their meaning. Keala also had a wonderful sense of humor! Keala celebrated people's birthdays and an anniversary. She helped "herd" all 39 people into a cohesive group. The bus and van drivers she chose were also an asset. They were safe drivers and well versed in the sights along our route. Also, Keala, had a gentleman shadow her as a future guide. She gave him a few opportunities to speak/sing that enhanced our experience. He was a success. Overall I'd give Keala an A+!

This was my 1st tour with Gate 1 and I was not disappointed! Garrett, the tour guide, was knowledgeable, articulate, approachable, fun to be with! It was such a pleasure to be a passenger in a comfortable "coach" driven by Mark. He did a suburb job of keeping us on schedule and proving a great ride. I loved this trip!! I thoroughly enjoyed this fast paced trip that offered a wide range of opportunities to explore the culture of colonial Mexico. Our tour guide was exceptional - knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, fun, and generous. He ensured that everyone felt comfortable and had an opportunity to be fully immersed in Mexican culture. Many adventures included night walks to see the magnificent architecture at night, singing and dancing with mariachi bands, tasting a wide range of Mexican cuisine, and understanding the social, political, environmental, religious and educational factors that have impacted Mexico's rich history. I am grateful for all the effort put into planning and executing this trip. I have been on seven trips with Gate 1 Travel and have thoroughly enjoyed every experience. No doubt, this trip proved to be one of my favorites.

Our trip was great! We loved the Denali train ride, the boat rides in Kenai and Seldovia, and the hike to see Exit Glacier. Also enjoyed the places we stayed and the food we ate (although perhaps Anchorage Sheraton was a bit farther to walk to town, but still manageable). Our tour guide, Betsy, and driver, Debi, were awesome. Great scenery in Alaska makes wonderful pictures. We loved the fresh air of Alaska. The little bit of rain did not damp our trip, we did mostly everything. It was a wonderful trip! We're glad we went!

The trip was fantastic! Tim and Grace were excellent trip leaders and brought a sense of humor and a great educational experience to the trip. I learned so much about the geography and history of Yellowstone, especially, that it made viewing deep canyons, waterfalls, geysers and animals so much more than seeing what the area is like today. I would like to thank Mary Ann and Jimmy for making this trip wonderful. Mary Ann is extremely knowledgeable and very caring. She always made sure we knew what to do during free time and gave us handouts/maps to help us to decide. I frankly think that she is one of the best tour guides I have ever travelled with. She handled the day we had to all test for Covid with caring and made sure we did not miss any of our remaining travel experiences. What can I say about Jimmy. Great driver and just a nice person. The coach was immaculate and comfortable. My thanks to Gate 1, our drive Jimmy and Mary Ann for making this trip a great and memorable experience.

This trip was one of the best vacations of my entire life. Tour Manager Lori , and our motorcoach driver Keith, made the trip magical with their personal insights into Louisiana and recommendations for places to eat, and experiences to pursue during free time. Lori was a true professional, easily rolling with changes to itineraries and changes through no fault of Gate1. Lori's ability to think on her feet salvaged a potentially disastrous scheduling mess at the State Capital by the capital tour guides. Throughout the entire trip, Lori and Keith both made us feel like we were their personal guests. They both genuinely cared about each of us in the group. Keith consistently went above and beyond to make sure he could drop us off and pick us up at the most convenient locations, especially in New Orleans during the French Quarter Festival, which shut down several streets. The good times definitely rolled thanks to Lori and Keith!

We completed our fifth G-1 tour, Colonial Mexico, on Apr 17 and I wanted to tell you what a wonderful guide Liliana was. She was absolute perfection-- always there for us, super-informative, helpful at every turn, cheerful and informative, hard working, and genuinely concerned that we understand and enjoy her beloved country. She and our coach driver Aurelio were an absolutely delightful team. You are fortunate to have her as a guide-- she's a great ambassador for Gate 1 and Mexico. I've just completed my 41st trip with G1 and my first domestic tour - A Musical Journey though the South - I have completed the survey with glowing marks but wanted to express my thanks for an incredible trip - so much fun and got to go to cities I have never visited and it was a musical and Southern education! Highlights - the Grand Ole Opry, making a CD at RCA Studio B in Nashville, seeing where MLK Jr was assassinated in Memphis, Graceland of course, home of the King of Rock and Roll, the amazing BB King Museum in Indianola and jamming with a blues singer, and of course New Orleans, looking real good after all that has happened to it. Our tour manager Tim was fantastic, and taking a tour during this pandemic you know that if it goes without issues that the constant attention to detail by the tm is one of the reasons - it was flawless in every way! With driver Jimmie they were a superb team - it was super fun and we laughed a lot and sang and danced and just felt great joy - cannot beat that! The hotels were lovely and the changed hotel that we stayed in - the Hampton Inn in Ridgeland/Jackson, Ms is a keeper - probably my favorite on the whole trip - lovely and in a great location with good food options for dinner a short walk away and super helpful staff. Have another USA tour coming up in July and so happy that my first domestic one went so well - not that I had any doubt that it would not! This was a wonderfully paced, well put together trip that covered so much and some great experiences. Thank you for that as experiences are what life is all about!! On to the next one!

I just finished the 7 Day Affordable Zion, Bryce Canyon, Arches & Grand Canyon National Parks (Sunday Departure) tour. This tour totally exceeded my expectations! In addition to the parks listed in the title, we saw two other National Parks (Capitol Reef and Canyonlands), two Utah State Parks (Dead Horse Point and Goosenecks) and a Navajo National Park (Monument Valley). Kerry was a terrific tour manager, he was very knowledgeable about every park and more than willing to answer our frequent questions with understandable explanations. He also helped pass the long bus drives with his silly jokes and puns. Unfortunately two members of our group had a family emergency and had to head home early; they said Kerry went above and beyond helping them with their travel arrangements. I am very glad Mona was behind the wheel, it was clear from the very beginning of the trip that she was an expert driver, and as a bonus she had a delightful, friendly personality. My favorite park was Bryce Canyon, closely followed by Arches and Capitol Reef. However, the true highlight of the tour was our guest lecturer Peter , who was one of the WWII Navajo Code Talkers. Only four of these men are still alive, and to hear his story and be in his presence was an honor and a privilege. And there was one additional bonus on the drive back to Las Vegas to catch our flight: a comfort stop at Seligman, Utah, which is on the fabled Route 66! What a glorious seven days; thank you Gate1!

Our tour director Marianne was wonderful -- she is knowledgeable, personable, warm, compassionate and enthusiastic.....everything one would want in a tour director. And Lupe, our bus driver, was terrific too. In addition to being an excellent driver, he was so friendly and polite. They made a great team! My boyfriend, Larry, and I traveled on our first guided bus tour with Gate 1 to the Copper Canyon, Mexico, Feb 9-18, 2022. Our guide, Manuel , made the trip very memorable and special. He is knowledgeable about the local history and customs, he provided excellent suggestions for meal choices, he treated every traveler with respect, our time each day was wisely used, and Manuel displayed his wonderful sense of humor daily. I would not hesitate to travel with Manuel again on other trips he directs. Our bus driver (can't remember his name) was an excellent driver and I highly recommend him as well. Gate 1 Travel is a wonderful tour company and I will be traveling with Gate 1 in the future as often as possible. Thank you also for the patience and capability of your telephone representatives.
