DAY 6 - Cape Horn to Drake Passage
Plan to go ashore on Cape Horn, conditions permitting, to explore this deserted and yet romantic piece of land at the end of the world - the southernmost point of Chile and South America. This region is of great significance because of its strategic location. Journey southward to reach the infamous Drake Passage* where the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans meet. Once an important trade route, this 600-mile-wide band of water is named after Sir Francis Drake, the 16th-century explorer who sailed these waters. Here, the warm waters from the north meet cold waters from the south, resulting in an ocean rich in nutrients that supports the prolific marine. In the evening after dinner, watch documentaries, join the lectures and enjoy informal chats with fellow travelers and the crew
*The Drake Passage is known for its rough waters
Overnight: Antarctica Cruise
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 7 - Crossing the Drake Passage
Crossing the legendary Drake Passage is indeed an unforgettable experience! As you cruise, there’ll be several enriching lectures on various topics ranging from history to wildlife in preparation for your visit to Antarctica. Approaching Antarctica, you’ll be informed about current guidelines for visiting this vulnerable environment. It is also important to note that the Antarctic Treaty System regulates international relations with respect to Antarctica, Earth's only continent without a native human population. Overnight: Antarctica Cruise
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 8 - South Shetland Islands
When land is spotted for the first time, you’ll know you have reached the spectacular wilderness of the South Shetland Islands. This impressive group of islands, lying to the north and roughly parallel to the Antarctic Peninsula, is a haven for wildlife. Here, observe vast penguin rookeries, Antarctic fur seals, and wallowing southern elephant seals. The exploration of these sub-Antarctic islands includes a hike (weather and conditions permitting) at crescent-shaped Half Moon Island, to a view point that is a popular place to look for whales in the bay facing towards the Bransfield Strait. At lunar-like Deception Island, sail into the natural harbor of this volcanic island and view the abandoned whaling station known as Hektor. Enjoy staggering panoramas of sheer cliffs rising from the sea and snow covered peaks - surely a highlight of the day
The itinerary and activities over the coming days are subject to weather and ice conditions with the route and shore landings communicated by regularly scheduled briefings.
Overnight: Antarctica Cruise
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 9 - South Shetland Islands
The South Shetland chain of Islands, with its breathtaking mountainous views and looming glaciers, is completely ice covered. DAY 10 - Antarctic Peninsula
Arrive in the amazing "White Continent" of Antarctica, stretching across ice-covered desert and mountains for over five million square miles. Antarctic penguins begin to appear in the water and the first icebergs drift by. Be prepared for an incomparable discovery of Antarctica with your experienced expedition leaders. Here, in the midst of the great white open, you’ll find nature at its most sublime. The landscapes here have remained as awe-inspiring and untouched as the day man first set eyes upon them in this coldest, driest, highest and cleanest continent on Earth. These memories and visions will last forever!
Overnight: Antarctica Cruise
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 12 - Antarctic Peninsula
Today, a thrilling passage through the scenic Errera Channel and crunching icebergs, takes you to the islands of Danco and Cuverville, the latter being home to one of the largest known colonies of chinstrap penguins. The Errera Channel - a waterway between Rongé Island and the Arctowski Peninsula - is narrow and truly magnificent. Because of its shallow and narrow waters, you may be treated to a fantastic spectacle of icebergs wedged against each other creating a massive ice sculpture

DAY 13 - Antarctic Peninsula
Go ashore at Neko Harbor. Surrounded by mountains and nestled in fjord-like Andvord Bay, here, visit a huge Gentoo penguin colony, view elephant seals and hike to a viewpoint to soak in the breathtaking scenery. Alternatively, dependent on weather conditions, you may visit the Almirante Brown Research Station in Paradise Harbor, a nesting place for both Gentoo and Chinstrap penguins
Overnight: Antarctica Cruise
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 14 - Antarctic Peninsula
Every expedition is dependent on the ability to be flexible and make changes needed depending on weather conditions. Great conditions also mean that you can spend hours ashore, hiking mountains, or traverse glaciers. Land at Brown Bluff where the birdlife and nature are astonishing. Strict environmental guidelines are always followed leaving nothing in this pristine environment but footprints in the snow and taking nothing away
Overnight: Antarctica Cruise
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 15 - At Sea
After spending remarkable days in Antarctica, gather together to share your impressions and recap everything you have experienced thus far. Later, spend time on deck looking for wildlife and join lectures to learn more about your next astonishing destination: the Falkland Islands

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 16 - The Falkland Islands - East and West
Today, arrive in the Falkland Islands, home to more than 70 animal and bird species including king penguins and albatross. The Falklands, teeming with wonders of wildlife and nature, is a totally unpolluted environment with fantastically clear blue skies, seamless horizons, vast open space and stunning white sand beaches. You can anticipate a great discovery of this truly special part of the world
Overnight: Antarctica Cruise
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 17 - Port Stanley, Falkland Islands
You reach Port Stanley, capital of the Falklands. After the Antarctic peninsula, it’s almost surreal to arrive in a town that looks like an old-style English seaside town with red phone boxes, red buses, and pubs. Here, you can roam the city streets and walk through town. Several excursions will also be offered onboard to explore the wilderness and the wildlife. As you reach the westernmost settled outposts in the Falklands, you will see remote farms that have been owned by families for over seven generations. Sheep graze alongside immense colonies of albatross and rockhopper penguins, while geese forage at the water’s edge
Overnight: Antarctica Cruise
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 18 - New Island, Carcass Island in the Falklands
There are several potential landing sites in the Falklands including New Island, with its impressive colony of albatross. Bird lovers will enjoy going ashore on Carcass Island - a paradise abundant with ducks, geese, penguins, albatross, caracaras, and wrens. You may opt to hike to Leopard Cove - a fantastic sandy beach where you can meet Magellanic and Gentoos penguins. Many different options lie ahead, conditions permitting
Overnight: Antarctica Cruise
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 19 - Strait of Magellan
Departing the Falklands, sail through the Strait of Magellan towards your starting point of Punta Arenas. Our trip was awesome, we had a great time. Brazil is beautiful, Iguazu Falls is a jaw dropping sight and the juicy beef in Argentina is just amazing so with their wine. Enjoyed watching the Tango show in Buenos Aires so with the Samba in Rio. Love Gate 1 choice of hotels, it's in the center of the action. All in all the whole experience made it more enjoyable, big Thank you to our superb Tour Manager Sylvia who did an excellent job. So inspiring to see the world with Gate 1, Happy travels.

This was a fantastic trip and we highly recommend it. It was well organized and the guide David, as well as the driver Edwin were wonderful. We felt welcome from the time we landed in Cartagena. The trip on the canoe through the mangroves was amazing. The night ride on the horse driven carriage was very classy and romantic. We loved the restaurant that was picked. Gate 1 needs to publicize this trip to Cartagena more. People do not know what they are missing. The whole trip was done very professionally. Gate 1, you are the best!!

The trip was outstanding for me and my travel partner, Jeffery Stroud. The other people in this group were all friendly and outgoing personalities. I cannot applaud our in-country guide Karen, with enough accolades. She was always available, knowledgeable and cheerful. The flight home was very turbulent but we survived. Thanks also, to Gate 1 for sponsoring such a wonderful trip. Looking forward to booking the next experience.
