Is This Trip Right for You?
Egypt's history and culture have not changed but current political and cultural events have left their mark on daily life. Security is of primary importance and you may see more armed guards and police vehicle presence. We encourage you to travel in groups and not alone. Many domestic flights within Egypt depart in the early morning, requiring waking before dawn. Early morning touring is employed when possible in order to avoid mid-day sun and humidity, and to ensure there is ample time to visit the destination highlights. Local dress code, hygiene and diet recommendations are provided. Due to Egypt's proximity to the Sahara Desert, local hot winds bring sand and dust everywhere.

Know Before You Go | |
Although most of the planning and preparation is taken care of for you, there are still a few things you should know and some details you should take care of to ensure your comfort, safety and peace of mind. Please review the following information before your departure to ensure that any surprises along the way will only be pleasant ones. |
Getting Ready to Go |
Passports and Visas |
It is each traveler's responsibility to have a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the dates of travel and a visa if required. Please check the information at www.gate1travel.com/visas.aspx for the specific country/region you are visiting for more details. IMPORTANT: Passengers who are not U.S. citizens must check with the respective consulate or a visa agency to determine what personal identification is required. Passengers who enter, leave and then re-enter the same country on their itinerary should check if they require a double-entry visa. Passport applications are available at most U.S. Post Offices, as well as at regional Passport Agencies. Passengers requiring visas, whether obtained in advance or locally upon arrival, should ensure that their passport has blank pages.
|
Traveling with Friends or Family? |
If you are traveling with friends or family who are booked on another reservation, please make sure that we are aware. On occasion, we may operate more than one vehicle on your tour departure in which case we will ensure that guests will be assigned together. This is achieved by connecting your reservations before your departure. Once you arrive in your destination, it may not be possible to make assignment changes. To check that your reservations are linked, log into https://www.gate1travel.com/res with your email and password, select your reservation number, and check to see that your reservations are indicated as "Traveling With" at the top right side of the display. |
Trip Preparation |
A little pre-planning can make your trip go a lot smoother. Several weeks before your trip, make a list of what you will need to take with you. Make sure your personal documents (passports, visas, driver's license) are in order. Make sure also that you have enough prescription medications to last through the trip and carry them with you in case your luggage is delayed. Bring a change of clothes in your carry-on bag in the event that your luggage is delayed or lost. Lost luggage is common. We strongly urge you to consider carry-ons instead of checked bags when possible, and when checking a bag is necessary, choose a bag color and identification that stands out. We suggest that you make photocopies of passports, visas, personal ID and any other important travel documents and pack them separately from the originals. You may also make a digital copy of your passport to keep a clear picture with the important details in your cell phone or digital camera photos. If you lose the originals while traveling, you'll have copies for easier reporting and replacement. Pack a list of medications including dosage and generic names. You may consider bringing a small supply of over the counter medications for headaches and/or anti-diarrhea pills (especially when traveling outside of the USA and Western Europe). We recommend that you pack a portable alarm clock. Due to security reasons, many museums have restrictions on the size of bags that can be taken inside and backpacks, carry-on bags or large purses may not be permitted. It is recommended to bring a small shoulder bag or purse to use in these situations instead. Avoid placing valuables such as cameras in your checked luggage. Airplane pressure can cause similar pressure in your body, most notably in ears, as well as liquid tubes and bottles. Your physician can suggest medication for decongestion. We suggest that you place liquid containers into Ziploc bags to catch any leaks. |
Travel Safety Advice: The safety of our guests is Gate 1’s #1 concern. Before making the decision to reserve your vacation, we want you to be aware of potential situations which may impact your holiday. While most of the time our programs run precisely according to plans, on rare occasion force majeure events including weather, transportation mechanical issues, or uninhabitable accommodation, civil unrest and even criminal or terrorist activities will present themselves unexpectedly and with little or no notice. Gate 1 will make the decision to cancel a tour only after receiving verifiable government issued information. We are otherwise obliged to comply with contractual airline and vendor agreements and carry out the tour until or unless we are advised otherwise. In the event of such an occurrence anytime after your date of departure, Gate 1 and the local destination ground staff, in coordination with government advisories, airlines, hotels, cruise ships and other vendors, will make decisions with regard to your safety first. We strongly recommend that tour participants review the destination country's specific information at https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/alertswarnings.html. |
Travel Protection |
Even the best-planned trips can be impacted by the unexpected. And that is why we recommend that you help protect yourself and your investment by purchasing Travel Protection for your Gate 1 trip. Travel Protection can help with medical coverage for illness or injury, trip cancellation and/or interruption, baggage loss, medical evacuation, and more. At any time before you complete Final Payment, you may choose to purchase Travel Protection. The protection plan premium is non-refundable after a 10-day review period. In addition, you must be medically able to travel at the time the premium is paid. For a summary of the plan details on coverages, benefits, limitations and exclusions, please refer to the Description of Coverage by visiting www.gate1travel.com/insurance/. Cancel for Any Reason Waiver Benefit (CFAR) is a non-insurance feature that allows you to cancel up to 72 hours before your scheduled departure for any reason not otherwise covered in the Travel Protection Plan. CFAR must be purchased at the same time as the Travel Protection Plan as well as within 21 days of the original booking date. Independent or escorted tour reservations will be eligible for a future travel credit equal to the full cost of your trip, less the cost of initial deposit, airline-assessed fees, amendment fees, and insurance premium. Sea or river cruise reservations will be eligible for a future travel credit equal to 50% of the cost of your trip, less the cost of initial trip deposit, airline-assessed fees, amendment fees, and insurance premium. All CFAR credits are valid for a period of two years from the original date of travel. CFAR Credits have no cash value and are not transferrable. Airline-assessed fees are generally $300 per person, but may be as much as fully non-refundable. Some non-refundable airline tickets may retain value, less airline-assessed fees. Your future air credit must be used to book with the same airline. Deadlines to rebook and complete travel vary by airline and may be as early as 12 months from when the tickets were originally issued (not the date of travel). For details, www.gate1travel.com/insurance/. This program does not apply to custom groups and Antarctica cruises. Residents of New York, Missouri & Minnesota may purchase this Cancel for Any Reason Waiver Benefit separate from Travel Protection. Call to speak with a reservation agent for details. This Cancel for any Reason Wavier Benefit is not insurance and is provided by Gate 1 Travel. |
Mobile Phones |
Mobile networks differ from country to country. We recommend you check with your provider to see if your wireless plan will work in the destination(s) you are visiting. To avoid possible roaming charges, you may want to consider purchasing an international plan. With most major phone companies, for a modest fee, you will be able to use your domestic plan's talk, text, and data allowances just like you do at home. If you can access the internet while you travel, you can also take advantage of services such as WhatsApp or Skype. |
Making Telephone Calls from One Country to Another |
When dialing a number from one country to another, you should proceed as follows: dial your country's Exit Code (often indicated with a “+” sign), then the destination Country Code, then the Phone Number. For most countries, the exit code is 00. Exceptions include the USA and Canada (011), Hong Kong and Cambodia (001), Australia (0011), and Russia (8 Pause 10*). For Brazil, please consult with the local telephone company. If you are dialing from a mobile phone, you can enter a “+” instead of the international Exit Code (011, 001, 0011 or 00) by pressing and holding the 0 key. For most countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, South America and South Pacific, if you are calling from a local phone to a number within the same country, you should drop both the exit and country codes and then add a leading 0 (zero). Exceptions include Spain, Italy, Hungary and Malta (no additional zero needed to dial locally). Example: To dial the following number in Germany (as listed on your voucher): +(49) 0555-555 From USA or your US cell phone: 011-49-555-555 From another country in Europe: 00-49-555-555 From a German phone within Germany: 0555-555 |
WiFi Access |
WiFi is available in most airports, hotels, and cruise lines, as well as on some flights, trains, and buses. There may be a fee for access and service quality and speed may vary greatly especially while on moving vehicles. Availability on cruises is also dependent upon its location while sailing through multiple countries. Please note that WiFi can be extremely slow, unreliable, and sometimes nonexistent in developing countries. |
Staying Healthy While Traveling |
All travelers should familiarize themselves with local conditions, such as high altitude or required immunizations, which could affect their health. We recommend you consult with your personal healthcare provider, the Centers for Disease Control (www.cdc.gov) and/or the World Health Organization (http://www.who.int/en/) for their recommendations. There are several easy steps you can take to stay healthy while traveling which may help prevent contracting an illness while away from home.
|
Notice on Aircraft Cabin Insecticide Treatment - Please note that some countries may require aircraft cabin insecticide treatment for in-bound foreign flights. A list of such countries is available at:
http://www.dot.gov/office-policy/aviation-policy/aircraft-disinsection-requirements. |
Egypt - It is advised that you see your doctor 4-6 weeks before your trip. The CDC recommends that all travelers be up to date on their routine vaccinations. The following immunizations are also recommended: Hepatitis A and Typhoid. Travelers are encouraged to wear insect repellent. Information on vaccinations and other health precautions, such as safe food, water precautions and insect bite protection, may be obtained from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's hotline for international travelers at 1-877-FYI-TRIP (1-877-394-8747) or via the CDC website. The World Health Organization (WHO) website is also helpful and provides information on outbreaks of infectious diseases abroad. |
Consideration for Tour Participants (Escorted Tours) |
For the benefit of all tour participants, we ask tour members to be considerate of their fellow travelers in the following ways:

Climate & Clothing |
Egypt - Spring: 70–90°F; Summer: 80–130°F; Autumn: 70–90°F; Winter: 60–85°F. Bring comfortable walking shoes, a sweater, clothes you can layer and an all-weather coat. About Drones |
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) or “drone” technology has quickly become affordable and is increasingly popular with recreational users. While some countries have clear, established drone laws, others do not, or existing regulations are undergoing review and change. Travelers who wish to bring a drone on their trip are responsible to research and abide by the laws and regulations of the countries they are visiting, as well as to check with their airline(s) regarding their rules for transporting drones. Please note that tours are unable to extend the length of scheduled visits and stops to accommodate use of drones. |
Book & Film Recommendations |
Many of our guests enjoy reading about their destination - either in advance of their trip or while traveling - as a way of adding context to their visit. Whether reading a traditional guide book, learning about the history and culture, or simply enjoying a fictional novel set in the destination, a good book can add greatly to your experience. Similarly, a good movie set in your destination helps set the mood before you travel. We asked our Tour Managers and staff to recommend books and films which past guests may have enjoyed. The following does not constitute an endorsement of any authors, books or films listed, it is merely a collection of guests' recommendations. |
EGYPT: Books Palace Walk by Naguib Manfouz River God by Wilbur Smith Cleopatra's Daughter by Michelle Moran Vertigo by Ahmed Mourad Utopia by Ahmed Khaled Towfik Chronicle of a Last Summer: A Novel of Egypt by Yasmine El Rashidi Playing Cards in Cairo by Hugh Miles EGYPT: Films Clash (2016) Exodus:Gods and Kings (2014) Cairo Time (2009) Stargate (1994) Death on the Nile (1978) Cleopatra (1963) The Ten Commandments (1956) |
Preparing for Your Trip |
Seat Assignments |
As a courtesy service, complimentary airline seat assignments are requested on your behalf and, when available, are displayed in order of Passenger #1, #2 and so on. Assignments reflect the best available seats at the time of booking. Some airlines and/or fare types do not allow for pre-seating and require this be done at airport check-in only; in which case the display shows “N/A”. Seats are subject to change by your airline(s) including, for example, when there is a schedule change or equipment change after your initial booking; this may cause seat assignments to be changed or even cancelled. Some airlines offer preferred seating for an additional fee; these seats may only be purchased directly from the airline. You will need your family name and the 6-digit airline “Record Locator” which is displayed with the flight details on your reservation. In the event that you change seat assignments directly with your airline, changes will not be reflected on your invoice or documents. At the time that Gate 1 travel documents are issued, the currently assigned seats will be listed based on the assignments stored in your airline reservation at that time. Should you have questions regarding your assignments, please write to us at www.gate1travel.com/contactus. |
Luggage & Packing |
Checked bags are typically limited to a total dimension of 62 inches by adding length + width + height (example: 26"+26"+10" = 62”), and a maximum weight of 50 lbs (23kg). Smart Bags with a USB charging port, GPS tracking device and other high-tech features are prohibited as checked or carry-on baggage unless the bag is made with removable batteries and the batteries are removed and stored separately. Many airlines charge for checked bags including flights which begin and end within the USA. The most inexpensive airfare options commonly known as Basic Economy airfares do not include any checked bags nor seat assignments before the day of departure. However, for some airlines, other airfare categories also do not include checked baggage. This will be clearly displayed in our airfare selection and on your invoice. Where available, we highly recommend selecting airfares which include at least 1 piece of checked baggage. Gate 1 Travel is not responsible for checked bag fees, excess luggage or weight charges levied by an airline. Checked baggage allowances displayed on reservation details and invoices reflect the applicable allowance at the time of booking but are subject to change by your airline(s). For your airline’s requirements and fees, visit www.gate1travel.com/baggagefees.aspx. For important baggage information, visit www.gate1travel.com/luggage.aspx. Avoid placing valuables in your checked luggage. Federal law forbids the carriage of hazardous materials aboard the aircraft in your luggage, your carry-on or on your person. A violation can result in five years’ imprisonment and penalties of $250,000 or more (49 U.S.C. 5124). Hazardous materials include explosives, compressed gases, flammable liquids and solids, oxidizers, poisons, corrosives and radioactive materials. Examples: Paints, lighter fluid, fireworks, tear gases, oxygen bottles, and radio-pharmaceuticals. There are special exceptions for small quantities (up to 70 ounces total) of medicinal and toilet articles carried in your luggage and certain smoking materials carried on your person. Check the Transportation and Safety Administration (TSA) website www.tsa.gov to find out the current list of acceptable items you may bring on a plane before packing. We recommend that you use brightly colored luggage tags, straps or other identifiers to help you locate you luggage upon arrival or to describe it in the event that it is lost. |

Flight Services |
What to do if You Need Assistance |
Whether you purchased your airfare from Gate 1 Travel or from the airline directly, please bear in mind that Gate 1 Travel does not own nor operate the airline(s), nor the airport facilities where they operate. At times, flying can be a frustrating experience, especially when things do not go exactly as planned, and airline explanations can be confusing or even misleading. Should you face a problem, remain calm and seek assistance either from the airline directly or from Gate 1. Please be aware that in most cases, on the day of your flight(s), airlines pass responsibility for your reservation to their staff at the airport and it is not always possible for Gate 1 Travel to intervene on your behalf, either through our reservations system or directly with your airline. |
Arrival & Departure |
Arrival Procedures |
Upon arrival, please complete immigration formalities if necessary and claim your luggage. If your program includes airport arrival transfers, check your voucher for specific instructions, as they vary with every destination. In most cases, you will be met after collecting your luggage or passing through Customs by the local representative who will be holding a Gate 1 Travel sign and/or a sign with your name on it. In some instances you will be instructed to walk a short distance to a transportation counter. The company's name and location will be printed on your voucher. If for any reason you do not connect with the Gate 1 transfer personnel, go to the Tourist Information Desk and ask them to page the Gate 1 Travel representative or phone the number on your voucher. Be wary of airport scammers who offer unwanted assistance. If you are delayed due to lost luggage, phone the number on the voucher or have a companion exit the Customs Area to advise the transfer representative. |
What To Do When Your Flight Is Delayed |
Airlines do not share flight manifest information. Therefore, the only way we may learn of a delay or schedule change while you are traveling is from you, the traveler. The sooner you are able to contact one of our offices, the better we can respond. Please refer to the Emergency Assistance instructions on this same document. Gate 1 Travel is only able to guarantee pre-reserved arrival transfers for up to one hour from the scheduled time, no matter the cause. In case you are delayed for any reason, and are unable to follow the instructions on your voucher, please make independent transfer arrangements and retain your receipts. Unused tour services, including transfers and hotel nights are not refundable. Upon you return home you will need to contact your airline and/or insurance carrier to investigate the possibility of reimbursement for any unused tour services. |
Departure Procedures |
If your program includes departure transfers, instructions will be stated on your voucher or provided locally. |
Transfers |
Due to local traffic and other extenuating circumstances, we ask that you allow 30 minutes from your scheduled transfer time for our representative to arrive. This includes hotel, airport and cruise transfers. Such possible delays are taken into consideration in scheduling transfers and you should therefore have no concerns about arriving late for your tour, flight or cruise. For transfers from a hotel, let the hotel reception desk or concierge know that you are waiting for a transfer. In the case of a missed transfer, reimbursement for your out-of-pocket expenses will be considered provided you obtain a written statement from the hotel's front desk verifying the length of time you waited, and the time you left the hotel, and a receipt for your transportation with time and date. The cost of a transfer is more expensive than hiring a taxi, as a Gate 1 transfer necessarily includes round trip service, or 'dead-leg'. Often the places of call (airports, seaports, hotels) demand entrance and parking fees, where drivers may have to wait for up to an hour. Passengers comfortable hiring a taxi on their own and do not require assistance will save money. |
About Your Accommodations |
Hotels |
Gate 1 Travel has carefully selected each hotel based on overall quality, location, price, food, service, and cleanliness. All rooms are standard twin-bedded (two single beds) rooms with private facilities. Special requests such as bed types, smoking preference and connecting rooms are subject to availability. Room selection in all cases, unless otherwise reserved, is strictly at the discretion of the hotel's management on a run-of-house basis. Triple rooms consist of standard twin beds or one double bed plus a sofa/folding bed or cot for third person except in the U.S. and Canada, where triple rooms often consist of two double/queen beds for three persons; where available, a fee may be charged by the hotel for the addition of a cot/rollaway. The number of persons accommodated does not dictate the room size. Although available at most 4 and 5 star hotels, the use of air-conditioning abroad differs greatly from the United States, and is often shut down at night and from the end until the start of the summer months. Some lodges and accommodations in remote regions may not have all of the amenities, such as hairdryer, alarm clock and room service, that you might find in a larger hotel located in a city center. |
Egypt Hotels - The hotels in Egypt offer all the amenities & services expected by guests, such as hairdryer, in-room safe, alarm clock, 24-hour room service, air-conditioning, mini-bars and complimentary Wi-Fi. Room selection in all cases, unless otherwise reserved, is strictly at the discretion of the hotel's management on a run-of-house basis. The number of persons accommodated does not dictate the room size. Hotel check-in time is generally not before 3:00 p.m. and check-out time is at 12 noon. |
Hotel Check-in/ Check-out |
Hotel check-in time is generally not before 4:00 p.m. and check-out time is prior to noon. If you will be arriving early in the day or departing in the evening, hotels will usually allow you to store your luggage in their luggage room. Ask at the front desk if the hotel can check you in earlier, or let you stay later. |
Nile Cruises |
The M/S Queen of Hansa offers elegant, classic 4 star accommodations with exceptional service to ensure the best experience while cruising the Nile between Luxor & Aswan. Our large cabins are fitted with wall to wall sliding windows, satellite TV, minibar, safe, a seating area and a private bathroom. Smoking is prohibited on board except for on the sun deck. However, it is strongly suggested not to smoke while aboard the ship. |
At Your Destination |
Eco & Sustainable Tourism |
We support global efforts to create a more eco-friendly world, intolerant of any forms of cruelty, abuse and intentional environmental destruction. To that end we ask that our clients maintain a watchful eye as they travel, and report any abuses they may encounter. One of the many benefits of tourism is the shared cultural knowledge and ultimate elimination of negative behavior through education. We rely on your good feedback to enable this element of symbiosis. As you travel and learn about foreign cultures, we ask first and foremost that you practice tolerance and respect for local customs. |
Gratuities |
Tipping is always a matter of personal discretion. For your convenience, please use the summary below as a guideline for recommended gratuity amounts. Gratuities may be paid in local currency or US dollar equivalent where accepted. Please be aware that tipping is considered by many locals to be a part of their normal remuneration and some may approach you for additional "compensation." There is no need to be intimidated by the request, nor should you feel pressured to pay more than recommended. If you become uncomfortable by any behavior you encounter, please advise your tour manager or phone our local office. Numbers are provided in your documents for your convenience. |
Suggested Tipping: Egypt |
Tour Manager (acts as Egyptologist guide and coordinator): US $6 per person per day Driver (Provides chauffeur services and limited assistance with luggage): US $2 per person per day, $1 per half day Nile River Cruise: Crew: US $5 per person per day Hotel porters and wait staff: Included |
Egypt - It is customary to tip in restaurants (10% is customary for good service) and other places that cater to tourists. Many public bathrooms are staffed, and a small tip is standard when using these facilities. |
About Your Sightseeing |
To ensure a pleasant and fair experience for passengers on our escorted tours, there is a mandatory seat rotation policy on our motor coaches which will be organized by your Tour Manager. On river cruises, color-coded group splits may be used for shoreside included and Optional tours. Some buses are equipped with toilet facility, however they are strictly intended for emergency use only and often require the vehicle to stop for safety reasons before use. When travel dates coincide with religious holidays and national celebrations, some monuments and sites may be closed, sometimes without prior notice. On these occasions, escorted touring itineraries may be amended to reflect these closures. Occasionally, during holidays and certain periods, and/or due to other unforeseen circumstances including weather conditions, there may be last-minute changes, sometimes after arrival, which may affect the sequence of the tour and locations visited. National monuments and tourist sites regularly undergo renovations, which can obscure the monument's view. No tour will be canceled due to renovations, however Gate 1 will decide based on the conditions whether to amend an itinerary. To respect the privacy of all tour participants, your tour manager will not organize a group photo or collect passenger email addresses for a group list. |
Land Only Passengers (Escorted Tours) |
Your tour manager will contact you after your arrival at your hotel. Passengers who have not purchased arrival transfers from Gate 1 Travel should proceed directly to the hotel for check-in. The details of the hotel can be found in your documents. |
Purchasing Tours Locally |
On escorted tours, the guides will generally sell optional tours to passengers who have not pre-purchased them. Payment can be made by cash or credit card, unless otherwise noted below. This does not apply to Independent packages. Please see Gate 1 Terms & Conditions for more information. https://www.gate1travel.com/terms.aspx#optional |
Independent Activities - Gate 1 itineraries may contain suggestions for activities for your leisure time; these suggestions do not constitute a recommendation nor an endorsement of any specific service provider and the decision to participate in any such activities should be made independently and with due consideration. Gate 1 is not responsible for any activities not expressly included in its programs. Caution should be exercised when selecting certain activities that may require physical strength, coordination or exertion. Particular care should be taken when considering animal rides, such as on camels, mules or horses |
Egypt - The Egyptian pound is the currency of Egypt. Bank opening hours are typically Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 2pm. Most banks do not offer exchange service. ATM machines can be found within all main towns and tourist destinations. The American Express Card is less commonly accepted. It is best to travel with cash, Mastercard and Visa. Ensure that you have sufficient cash on hand, as ATMs will not always be readily available. It is recommended to carry cash in small denominations such as 5 or 10 Egyptian Pounds or in US $1 bills to make tipping and minor expenses easier. |
Egypt - Major credit cards such as Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted in Egypt with the exception of American Express which is less commonly accepted. Some of the small shops and local vendors only take cash and do not accept credit cards. |
Shopping |
Most people enjoy bringing home at least one souvenir from the countries they visit. However, some find any amount of shopping to be too much while others never find enough opportunities. We have built into our Escorted itineraries a few shopping stops at recommended spots. These stops are designed to enhance your experience by providing an opportunity to see first-hand quality locally crafted merchandise which you may not be able to find on your own. Shops are checked to ensure the quality and authenticity of the products they offer, and we limit guides from visiting other locations. In some cases, we plan these stops to provide an opportunity to use clean bathrooms and to stretch your legs. All shops want your satisfaction, and therefore in case of any misunderstanding they ask that you kindly submit your claim to us within one week of the item's receipt. Claims submitted later will be subject to each store’s policies. While shopping independently, we advise you to exercise care and common sense when making any purchase. Always get a formal receipt. And remember that, just like in this country, if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is! About Tax-Free Shopping Tax-Free Shopping allows shoppers to reclaim the VAT (Value-Added Tax) or GST (Goods and Services Tax) they have paid on their purchases in some foreign countries in accordance with restrictions and procedures as dictated by each country. Refund eligibility varies by country, but may require presenting a scanned copy of your passport at the time of purchase, a minimum amount spent, or providing original store receipts. For more details, check the respective country’s online website, with the shop salesperson, with your tour manager or at www.globalblue.com for specific country regulations and airport operation hours. Please keep in mind that you must apply for VAT refund in the airport of the country the items were purchased and allow enough time prior to your flight for the application. U.S. Customs & Shipping Charges You may carry items with a fair retail value totaling $800 into the U.S. Taxes may be applied to the next $1,000 worth of merchandise. U.S. Customs determines the value of your items, often honoring a genuine sales receipt. Items which are shipped home are always subject to duty when received in the U.S. (in addition to shipping charges). Some shops may offer to include shipping and duties in the price but this typically means shipping only to the customs facility closest to you and payment only of the export duties; you would still need to collect the item and pay U.S. import duties. Please be aware that it is illegal to import products made from endangered animal species. U.S. Customs & Border Protection will seize these items, as well as most furs, coral, tortoise shell, reptile skins, feathers, plants, and items made from animal skins. |
Egypt - Egypt offers many fine and unique goods. Some shops feature fixed prices, while at others haggling is expected. Vendors often use high-pressure tactics to encourage customers to buy, even at reputable stores. |
Your Safety is Very Important |
Prior to your trip, if you are traveling overseas, we strongly recommend that you visit the website of the U.S. Department of State at www.travel.state.gov, specifically the section which addresses International Travel. You should read the tips for foreign travel and travel warnings for the country or countries that you plan to visit. It is also important that you do not allow your common sense to take a vacation while on your trip. Here are several tips which, if followed, will save much potential hardship:
If you've purchased an escorted tour program, your travel documents will include telephone numbers of local Gate 1 Travel representatives who will do their utmost to assist you in the event of an emergency. The numbers are printed on your Gate 1 Travel vouchers. Please copy the numbers. Once you relinquish the voucher, you will not have this information. Passengers traveling independently should employ the services of hotel concierges and local authorities. |
Egypt - We recommend that you apply reasonable caution and common sense while traveling to Egypt. You should be vigilant at all times, avoid crowded places and follow the advice of the Egyptian authorities. Stay away from demonstrations, protests and large gatherings. Always use hotel safes and watch out for bag snatchers and pickpockets. While on cruise, you are on a ship with a high safety standard and reliable crew. In case of emergency, we ask you to follow the instructions of your crew. For your safety, the ship is equipped with a lifeboat and your cabin is equipped with life jackets which are located under the bed. |
Tourist Street Scams |
Pickpockets and thieves can destroy an otherwise wonderful holiday. Be mindful of these precautions to help avoid being scammed or robbed:
|
Local Emergency Phone Numbers |
Egypt
|
Languages |
Egypt - Egyptian Arabic is the local language. English is generally spoken in tourist areas. |
Electricity |
Please note: The U.S. uses 120 volts and you can purchase a converter and transformer at most hardware stores for your 120V appliances. |
Egypt - The voltage used is 220 volts, including on board Nile cruises. |
Code of Conduct |
Egypt - Egypt is an Islamic country. Visitors should observe normal courtesies. Shaking hands is a standard form of greeting. Women should dress modestly, especially in non-tourist and rural areas, where traditional mores are more strictly followed. Beachwear should be confined to the beach and poolside. Public display of affection is sometimes regarded as discourteous. Smoking is very common. |
Meals & Dietary Requests |
Included meals are based on the restaurant's buffet or set menu. Beverages are not included, unless specifically stated. Although special diets like Vegetarian and Vegan are relatively commonplace in the USA, much of the world's menu options are more provincial. Please do not expect to find the variety of food selection outside of the local norm. Every effort will be made to honor special dietary requests selected no later than 5 days prior to departure in the passenger details section of your reservation. In addition, we recommend that you make preferences known to your tour manager upon arrival, and at each hotel/restaurant. Special requests are subject to local conditions and availability and cannot be guaranteed. |
Egypt - The Egyptian cuisine dates back 5000 years and combines aspects from the Middle East and North Africa, as well as Greece. Traditional foods include Shawerma, Hawawshi, Kushari, Fattah and Kebab & Kofta. Popular drinks include: Qasab, Karakadey and Sahlab. Be sure that all food, including meats and vegetables and fruits are fully cooked. Avoid eating raw fruits and vegetables. Do not eat food purchased from street vendors. Avoid dairy products, unless you know they have been pasteurized. Drink only bottled or boiled water, or carbonated drinks in cans or bottles. Avoid tap water, fountain drinks, and ice cubes. Egyptian mealtimes are as follows. Lunch is from 3-4 pm and dinner from 9-10 pm. |
Holidays |
On public holidays, there may be reduced public transportation, as well as limited hours or closures of attractions, shops and restaurants. |

Internet/Phone Use While Aboard MS Queen of Hansa |
Please be advised MS Queen of Hansa has basic WiFi throughout the reception area and at the Lounge bar. Cabins do not have WiFi. Please note the possibility of potential interruptions in satellite signals based on terrain and weather, plus factors such as populated ports where many ships are utilizing the same satellite signal, which may cause slower online connections than you are accustomed to at home. |
Egypt -traffic congestion and delays are common, particularly in downtown Cairo. Sightseeing durations include travel time estimates. |

It was wonderful & memorable! Our tour manager Reham was outstanding & did an excellent job explaining all the sites & provided great & interesting talks all through the tour! She was the best tour manager or guide we have ever had! Her personality & knowledge truly made a big difference in how we enjoyed our Egypt trip! Thank you for giving us such an amazing experience in Egypt!
Grace K.
It was absolutely amazing!!! Egypt is a beautiful country, with beautiful people, and so rich in history and culture you can hardly resist it. Gate 1 staff was so remarkable. Every one of them was great but our tour manager must be by far the best in this industry. We can't say enough great things about her. She made us feel like family, shared her image of Egypt from an emotional and an academic standpoint. She managed all 32 of us with impeccable charisma and grace. The rest of the staff was helpful, so much so we felt like VIP. The choice of hotels/cruise was above our expectations and a big reason why we will travel with you all again. Food was great, buses comfortable and there was plenty of water they gave us since Egypt is such a hot and dry country. So 5 stars all around. Bravo Gate 1!!!

First....our tour guide, Dina, was fabulous! Dina is extremely knowledgeable, very organized, patient, clever, and has the ability to maneuver her group through schedule challenges smoothly and efficiently. We loved her. Dina is a true asset to Gate1. I was very amazed with the amount of sites we were able to see and in a very efficient manner. This was my second Gate1 trip which included a river cruise and I'm a convert! Although we covered A LOT of ground, cruising allows enough relaxation time in between so I never felt overwhelmed or rushed to the next event. The cruise boat was well appointed, very clean, the food was good, and the crew was delightful and attentive. While on this trip I booked two more Gate1 trips for next year! Love the value of Gate1. Egypt was eye opening and stunning. A great trip!

Hope this finds you all safe and well. Elizabeth and I just returned from a two week tour of Egypt. Scratch one off my bucket list. The monuments, tombs, and antiquities are magnificent. We had a combined land tour and Nile cruise. We booked the tour through Gate 1 Travel. I have booked them in the past and they never disappoint. The hotels and restaurants are five star, the itinerary is as advertised, and our guide, Hosam, was incredible. He spoke four languages, is an educated Egyptologist, and injected a great sense of humor into his presentations. We met some very nice and interesting folks in our tour group of 27. Rather than describe what we saw, I'll let the photos speak for themselves. Take care.

During our recent trip to Egypt, we were fortunate enough to have Rania as our tour guide. It would not be an exaggeration to say that she was the best tour guide in the world. Rania was not only attentive to our needs but also possessed great insight and knowledge about the country. She went above and beyond to ensure that our group had an unforgettable experience. Her guidance and expertise allowed us to appreciate the beauty of every part of Egypt and make the most out of our trip. Rania's exceptional skills as a tour guide made our journey truly special, and we were lucky to have her. Despite her vast knowledge and experience, Rania remained humble and treated us like family. She made sure that we understood every detail and helped us see Egypt from a unique perspective. Her passion for her work and her country was contagious, and we all felt like we were a part of something special. In short, Rania Selim is a remarkable person and an outstanding tour guide. Her knowledge of Egypt is unparalleled, and she has a gift for making everyone feel special. We are grateful for the opportunity to have had her as our guide and highly recommend her to anyone looking for an exceptional travel experience.

This trip was excellent, with active and compressed itinerary, and very well planned. The last minute airline schedule change, 2 weeks before our departure, was a shock with 4 am arrival at Cairo and 4 am departure returning home. Upon arrival, Gate 1 arranged a day room for 6 hours at an airport hotel before we checked in at our scheduled regular hotel. For our return flight we were arranged to spend our long layover at the VIP lounge at the airport. The way Gate 1 handles arrivals, departures, hotel/boat check-in/out procedures and the transfer of luggage is a stress reliever. The success of the Egypt trip in large part can be credited to our tour manager, Rasha. She is extremely knowledgeable of ancient Egyptian history and current day Egyptian culture. From day one, her friendliness and hospitality made all of us feel so welcome to be in her country. She has terrific people skills, caring and yet consistent in her expectations of the group. She did everything to ensure our safety and warned us about uneven surfaces and constantly reminded us to be careful every step of the way. She also knows invaluable insider tips about where to shop, where to eat, and what to do. This was a very active trip with early wake up calls and lots of walking. The early arrivals to the sites certainly had the benefit of smaller crowds and better visitation experience. Jordan, the second part of our trip, was also excellent. Our tour manager, Hazim, is very experienced and has a great sense of humor. He knows the sites very well, seamlessly planned and timed our visits smoothly. He was very entertaining, very knowledgeable and thoroughly explained each site we visited and left no question unanswered. I saw many sites and things, travelled many miles and ate more food than I ever thought during these 17 days but never felt rushed. What makes a tour "best vacation ever" is the tour manager. I was fortunate to have the best two tour managers this time. Thanks to Gate 1 for this wonderful experience which enriched my life. This is one trip I could not accomplish if I was doing on my own.

The best part of this my GATE 1 tour has to be of our Tour Manager Omar !!! I have never met a tour manager of Omar's quality, qualifications, and dedications to his clients, profession, his tour company (i.e., GATE 1), and his civilization and country -being either associated with GATE 1 or other many tours/cruises I had had, and he is definitely among the best in the world -if not the best !! In fact, Omar has been extremely unique in his own way and as a whole, in terms of his quality in all perspectives and professional qualifications, and he definitely earned by himself more than a few minutes of time from each of us in his tour group. More specifically, Omar had been extremely kind and genuine, caring equally for all of us regardless of individual background and allocating his time and resources based on the specific needs of each individual; extremely passionate for his profession; very proud of his (Egypt) civilization; loving his beautiful country and sharing information about it as factually and accurately as possible; and extremely effective in communicating with all walks of people, leading the tour group, and attending to the specific needs of each individual; ...

Where do we begin to tell you how wonderful our tour guide Medo (Mohamed) was? The 9 day classic Egypt with 3 day Nile cruise was our first trip with Gate 1, and we are hooked! All our future vacations will be with Gate 1. From the minute we stepped into the Cairo airport until it was time to leave to go back home, our experience was amazing! The hotels, the food, the excursions and the people were second to none. But what made this our "best vacation ever" was our guide, Medo. Medo's knowledge of ancient Egyptian history and current day Egyptian culture was exceptional; we learned and experienced so much. From day one, Medo's friendliness and hospitality made all of us feel so welcome to be in his country!

Our 2nd trip to Egypt with Gate1, but with the addition of Jordan this time. What an amazing trip! Our tour manager in Egypt, Tarek, was absolutely and simply the best tour manager we've EVER had on all our trips. Friendly, funny, incredibly knowledgeable, really cared for our little "family" of 31 and kept us on track and safe, and he imparted SO much knowledge that added greatly to our tour. Thank you soooooooo much, Tarek! Our tour manager in Jordan, Mohammed, was also very good and friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and (as we all warmed up to each other) funny! Both men are incredible assets to Gate1, and anyone who tours with them will have a great time. If you're considering any of the Egypt/Jordan Gate1 tours but are holding off because you're concerned about safety, we always felt safe. Security rode and walked with us every day in Egypt and was unobtrusive but always there keeping an eye on everything. The Egyptian people are friendly and happy to see you. Same with the Jordanian people. Vendors can be a little pushy but a polite "no thank you" (or two), or better yet, a polite "la shokran" (or two) and they'll leave you alone. Be warned, though, this is a VERY active trip. Early wake up calls, lots (and LOTS) of walking, on the go. As Tarek said, "you can sleep when you're home!" This was simply an absolutely amazing trip with wonderful staff in 2 incredible countries. Thank you, Gate1!

I'm writing to let you know that tour manager Rania was the best tour guide we had with your company and with other companies we have traveled in the past. Her in-depth knowledge of Egyptology, the culture and history enhanced our understanding of this ancient civilization. Furthermore, she was able to coordinate and cater to all the different needs of the participants, including some quite elderly with mobility issues. She maintained us all entertained and informed of the schedule and logistics on a timely manner. My husband and I left Egypt with the love she was able to share with us.

We just returned from the 13 day trip to Egypt and we are writing to Express how amazing our guide Rania was to travel with. We have traveled extensively with a few different companies, but have found Gate one to be the best. We have had many good and knowledgeable guides, but Rania far surpasses anyone that we've had in the past. Her knowledge of Egyptian history is amazing and her excitement at sharing her pride in the Egyptian culture is absolutely infectious. She is kind and caring and available no matter the time of day to help anyone in the group who is having a problem. She is the most selfless truly kind guide we have ever traveled with. She is a gem!!

My recent trip to Egypt was a trip of a lifetime. It was one of the best trips I have ever had due to our outstanding tour guide Shaimaa. She was a true professional. Shaimaa gave us great details about Egypt. She was able to explain all we were looking at in detail and explain the historical significance of the places we visited. She was very thorough and knowledgeable and was able to explain so we all could understand and was able to answer all our questions. She did everything to ensure our safety and warned us about uneven surfaces, about pick pockets and she constantly reminded us to be careful every step of the way. She guided us on all excursions and made sure we understood the difficulty of each of our adventures. We could not have asked for a better guide. Shaimaa showed compassion and caring for all of us and we were a large group of 37 The hotels we stayed at were both excellent The cruise was very nice. All the staff were very friendly and worked hard to keep us all comfortable The food was great The sites we visited were all well chosen and Shaimaa was able to explain details about each site so we all got a better understanding about the history of Egypt Overall I am giving this trip a 10/10

All that I can say is WOW! I had always wanted to go to Egypt (canceled last year because of Omicron) and finally made it! I was amazed how well organized this trip was...the Gate1 team was always waiting to help us at the airports and hotels. Our tour manager, Shaimaa, was an impressive, knowledgeable guide who ably navigated us to all of the sites throughout the tour. Congratulations Gate1, you've provided a trip of a lifetime that I'll never forget!

This was our 12th Gate 1 and a magnificent trip! Fawzy, our Egyptologist/Tour Guide, was able to weave the history into engaging stories that made temples and tombs come to life. The overall pace was good and it was delightful to have a full 7 days on the Queen of Hansa--- a nice floating hotel with high quality and diverse buffet choices. Fawzy gave great tips on local free-time options. I was amazed at how well attended the cities are by Tourist Police and always felt safe, even when exploring on our own. Thanks also for offering the Hurghada option---we really enjoyed relaxing at the Red Sea resort for a couple of days along with visiting the aquarium and learning about Red Sea critters and aquatic history. Loved the trip! High marks across the board!

I wanted to tell you that our tour guide Neveen was an absolute gem -- she was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Egypt. I understand she is an Egyptologist, but I can also tell that she absolutely loves Egypt and also loves sharing her knowledge with the people on our tour group. Thank you for arranging such a wonderful tour guide on our trip.

The trip to Egypt was a dream come true. Gate1 once again outdid themselves providing great costumer care, hotel accommodations, knowledgeable guide, prioritized the safety of all of us travelers by providing body guards and guided us throughout the whole time. Needless to say, I am looking forward to my next trip and for making new friendships and long lasting memories.

The trip was worth it! This was our 1st group tour experience with Gate 1 Travel and definitely won't be the last! Hossam was an excellent tour coordinator and very knowledgeable of Egyptian history. He was very engaging and his stories touched our hearts and made us appreciate the glory days of Egypt and unfortunately the heartaches too. We made new friends along the way and will cherish every moment spent in Egypt even though it was hectic the last 2 days of the tour. Wi-Fi on the bus was static but everyone was very friendly - driver, security and peeps at the airport (Visa guy). Overall, rating of " Excellent ". Keep up the great work of Hossam and Gate 1 Travel. We will definitely recommend to our friends and family

Our trip to Egypt was very informative and it took me back to the ancient history. Thank you Gate one for delivering a great product in a 15 days trip to Egypt . I Felt like going back to my heritage , which I had read only in the books but what a difference to see things in front of your own eyes , like in Cairo, a basket floating by Pharo's Palace with baby Moses in it was mind boggling. Our guide Amr effectively communicates with Colleagues , Partners , and group members. He clearly discuses all matters and ideas in team meetings. Amr, our group manager, showed excellent time management and organizational skills.

Ever since I was in the fourth grade, I have been fascinated with Egypt. My teacher that year brought alive the history and culture of ancient Egypt. Now, 70 years later, I was able to visit the sites that enthralled me so many years ago. Gate1 has put together an excellent 13-day itinerary that includes most of the major ancient sites. I highly recommend the included 7 day river cruise. This cruise enables you to get to the sites and also allows for some time to catch your breath after touring and enjoy cruising on the Nile. (The sunrises and sun sets are spectacular.) Our tour was enhanced by Rania, our tour manager. She has the ability to impart both the history of Egypt and ancient Egyptians as well as the past and present culture of the country. On any given day, Rania was not only an impressive tour guide, but also a teacher, a shepherd, a nurse, a listener, an encourager and an advisor on all things souvenir. Rania brought to life the sites and stories of Egypt that first fascinated me as a nine year old in Mrs. Murray's fourth grade classroom. You will be most fortunate if you are in a tour group with her.

This was our very FIRST trip with Gate One. Because of our tour manager, it will not be our last. Shaimaa went above and beyond for everyone in the group but was especially sweet for us as we celebrated our anniversary. Her love and knowledge of the country was evident in every spoken gesture. Our entire group had a sense of comradery and friendship due to her leadership. Many of them were seasoned Gate 1 travelers, they too shared with us just how great our group was together. That's due to Shaimaa! What was also evident was the pride she took in working for Gate 1. Hearing good things from an employee says tons about your company, and every aspect of the trip was a success. Thank you Gate 1 for a trip we will never forget. It is my sincere hope you acknowledge Shaimaa and hold on to her, she is a gem and an asset. She has a fierce love and pride of her country that shows thru in her professionalism, knowledge, and the overall joy of doing her job. We will never forget Egypt; we will never forget Shaimaa. We look forward to many, many more years and adventures with Gate 1. We also look forward to seeing Shaimaa featured in the Egypt (and others) section! She's not just great at her job, she's beautiful too!
Devette S.
I am writing to highly commend our tour guide, Neveen, on the exceptional job she did on our recent trip to Egypt. Her attention to every detail was amazing as was her knowledge of Egypt, her concern for all of us, her organizational skills, her communication skills, her joy for her job, her sense of humor, and her leadership skills. We truly did become a family and there were many tears as we bid each other farewell. Neveen personifies the love she has for her country. She is an exceptional tour guide and we were most fortunate to have had her.

Our trip to Egypt was wonderful! We thought the itinerary was great. We definitely got to see the places we absolutely wanted to see. Getting to view the sites up close was beyond remarkable. There is no way that there is another person as passionate about Egypt as our tour manager Ossama was. He was well qualified, extremely knowledgeable and gave us a glimpse into the everyday culture and lifestyles of not only ancient Egyptians but also today's current residents. The way Gate 1 handles arrivals, departures, hotel/boat check-in/out procedures and the transfer of luggage is such a stress reliever. You have to be patient but it's worth it. The staff at the airports did a great job, especially at the Cairo airport. While waiting to move on after one of the screenings, a member in our group was approached by a police officer and he asked for her passport. The gate 1 agent came over and took care of that situation immediately. Thanks for providing us with a life changing experience. We look forward to planning another trip with Gate 1 in the very near future.
Natalie W.
On our recent trip to Egypt, our tour guide, Ahmed was amazing. He has vast knowledge about Egypt's ancient history, he was always making sure we were safe and hydrated, and he brought together a disparate group of 26 people into one family. You have a real asset in Ahmed. By the way, he constantly extolled the virtues of Gate One and Egypt. Thank you for having Ahmed as a Gate One employee.

What a fantastic trip!! Our second with Gate 1. It was exceptional, but very exhausting for a retired couple. Everything Gate1 had control over was done to perfection. We just cannot say enough about our tour manager, Hossam. He was entertaining, very knowledgeable and sensitive to the needs of his group. He thoroughly explained each site we visited and left no question unanswered. The tours were first class, covering everything we wanted to see. The 3-day Nile River cruise was a relaxing pleasure. Our group consisted of 34 delightful people who really enjoyed being with one another. Again, we enjoyed the trip very much.

Our tour, the 17 Day Crown of Egypt and Jordan with 4-Day Nile Cruise, was absolutely amazing. Both of our tour managers, Noura in Egypt and Omar in Jordan, possessed encyclopedic knowledge of the sites we visited. Their boundless enthusiasm for that history was contagious and our questions were always thoughtfully and completely answered. Noura was a force of nature, leading the way and reminding us to "watch the uneven ground" while telling us about a particular site and its place in Egyptian history. Her energy kept us all going during that intense week of touring. Omar led at a more relaxed pace but no less effectively or admirably, and his wonderful sense of humor kept us on our toes. We also greatly enjoyed his insights into present-day Jordanian social and family life and structure, which helped some long hours on the bus pass quickly. I also wish to give a shout-out to Adel, our airport liaison in Cairo. His good humor and efficiency smoothed the way and made what could be a confusing and intimidating process much easier. This tour was a wonderful, amazing and unforgettable experience. We could not have asked for better tour managers.

As soon as our arrival to Cairo Peter was waiting for us, we felt welcome immediately, he took care of our Visa process and he took care of our suitcases. He is very good, friendly and he has a wonderful personality. Nihal, our tour guide is AMAZING, she has a very warm personality and she is very highly motivate guide, her knowledge about Egypt history is incredible and she made us felt very welcome. She was always on time and always happy to respond our questions and concerns. SHE DID A GREAT JOB AND SHE IS A TRUE SAMPLE OF EXCELLENT TOUR GUIDE! Thanks Nihal! it was a pleasure to have met you!

Just wanted to let you know we had the most wonderful time on our Egyptian tour. We felt Fawzy was one of the best tour guides. he was very knowledgeable, he always had our safety first, and he was always on time. We always knew where we stood with the upcoming day. As always the crew that met us at the airport, Kareem, was amazing. We wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed the dahabeah Sandrine. It was great that we could get right up to the shore and get off to see things and meet some interesting village people. The staff on the boat was above and beyond and we loved how they took care of us and the tugboat crew. They were so happy to do what they were doing and you could see their joy. We felt like we were on our personal yacht. The chef made the most amazing food and there was more than enough. Also loved the night on the island of Basheer. Egyptian luau. We were never lacking for anything! The captain would bring us cream every night for our morning coffee and he answered to any of our needs. In fact, may do another Egyptian tour but only on a Dahaybeya.

We have been lucky enough to travel the globe, but this was our first experience using a tour company. We had heard of Gate 1's reputation for quality so decided to take a chance. Everything was absolutely perfect. Every step the way was effortless and rewarding. We were the only travelers in our group that hadn't been on a least one Gat1 tour, and we now know why there were so many repeat quest. Thanks to our tour guide Caroline, Egypt was a breeze. Already plotting our next adventure. Thank you very much for making the trip wonderful!!!

My partner, Jack, and I, believe the learning and enjoyment connected with a tour are greatly determined by the tour guide, and there is no doubt that Riham gave us a spectacular time due to her historical expertise in general, her knowledge related to the itinerary sights, her discussions of culture, and, very importantly, her charming, passionate, and heart-filled personality! We appreciated her stellar organization, efficiency, and solicitousness--all of which inspired confidence in her leadership and made us feel safe and happy. She revealed her astounding country--Egypt--in all of its varied aspects--ancient and modern, which widened our understanding and empathy and created unforgettable memories. Riham has set a very high bar for future tour guides; she just was absolutely wonderful in every way, and we feel so fortunate to have had her as our lovely guide (would have been a far lesser trip without her)!
Dara H.
Just wanted to say how much we loved this tour. It was a dream come true. Mostly though I want to acknowledge our tour guide Hossam as one of the most best guides we have ever had. His knowledge and love of Egypt made this trip so special. He had a unique way of telling the stories of the past and made it fun while we were learning so much about Egypt and its amazing history. Every stop was remarkable and Hossam's care and connections really made a difference. Thank you again for a wonderful trip.

My tour lead, Amr, on this Egypt trip I just got back from was the best guide I have ever had on any trip, with your company and without. I felt so safe and secure and he met every need with the absolute best attitude and he just seemed like a really good human who loves his job. His guide skills made this trip extraordinary and his genuine love for his job and his country's history will ensure I never forget this trip.

COMFORT and SAFETY: Our bus was very comfortable, with an onboard restroom, should any of us need those facilities. There was never a moment that I felt uncomfortable, or unsafe. Every bus had a security guard and both Amr and he were always aware of where we were and what we were doing. It was clear they were watching out for us at all times. Our group wore our masks whenever we were in public and maintained our "bubble" when we were in the bus or hotel. We had all been vaccinated and all of us tested negative before we left for home, so the Covid protocols were successful! GUIDE: Amr was a perfect teacher. He was very clear on what we should and should not do, where we should or should not go, and gave us good tips on shopping wisely. He was enthusiastic about all the archeological sites we visited. His love for Egypt was contagious and we easily got caught up in his excitement of all that we saw. He was patient, encouraging and very clear on what we could expect from one day to another and how each day would flow. SCHEDULE: The time was well planned, giving us down time allowing for relaxation or personal adventures in the evenings. The days were non stop, but not hectic. We saw so many things that it's hard to tell our friends about it all, but we never felt rushed. The ten days flew by, yet we didn't feel completely exhausted when they were over. We saw more things, travelled more miles and ate more food than I ever thought was possible in just ten short days. I'm wondering if we'll ever be able to find another experience to even equal this one from GATE 1, much less beat it!

Our Egyptologist tour manager, Fawzy, has made our recent trip and cruise in Egypt the best trip we have taken with Gate 1. We notified him our medical situation in the early morning hour and he took care of it by breakfast. We can't thank him enough. He made everyone feel like a part of his family. He was willing to be a part of an impromptu special event, so we all remembered Ramesses Jr. and Nerfertari. We also truly appreciated his "story telling" and slide presentation, through which we had learned and understood a lot about the ancient and modern day Egypt. Thank you Gate 1 for continuing to outdo each trip for us with consecutive excellent tour managers.

I took the Dubai Egypt trip starting 1/17/2022 through 1/27/2022. I must compliment your company on its service. The people that assisted us on the trip were very knowledgeable and I found out services your company was offering that I knew nothing about and all I could say was WOW! I have been using Gate One for a long time, but this time it was so different maybe because it was Egypt. Well Iam working on my next trip with Gate One. Thank you all for working with me to make this trip a success. SEE YOU SOON

We have taken many Gate1 tours and all guides have been great, but Omar was beyond exceptional. Not only Was he extremely knowledgeable, but his enthusiasm was over the top. It was like he was seeing the sites for the first time. We could not have had better manager. Please pass along our many thanks.
Jacob B.
The Egypt trip was fabulous!! Neveen was truly the best tour manager ever. She is so smart and we learned soo much. She is a hard act to follow. We want to go again. All the people involved - bus drivers - hotel staff are truly wonderful!!
Christine B.
We just wanted to add an extra word or two about our guide in Egypt! He was amazing!! The "excellent" rating in all categories doesn't come close to describing him and his abilities as a guide and as a representative for Egypt! We were so impressed with him and his knowledge, and his ability to make our group a cohesive, happy one! We will always remember Hossam!! And consider him as a friend!
Brenda R.
My husband & I completed the 11-day Crown of Egypt tour from Dec. 10-21. The tour guide, Omar, was excellent!! Omar's passion for Egypt and it's history was unbelievable. He was a certified Egyptologist & could read the hieroglyphics! He was always available to all of the members of his group. We had a very cohesive group and felt equally safe at all times. My husband & I would definitely recommend him for all of Gate 1 tours in Egypt.

I had a wonderful extraordinary time, our tour manager Hossameldin was above and beyond expectations, even after several other trips with Gate 1, he was superb, funny gregarious, informative, inclusive, knowledgeable, called us Habibi (my dears), making sure everyone on the tour was enjoying themselves, safe, and getting the very most out of our trip. Even when there were unexpected events 'Sam' was ready, willing and able to maintain cohesiveness in managing time, traffic, whilst keeping to the agenda. Truly "top drawer." So very personable and enthusiastic about his country, antiquity, dates, names, he actually is a professor, and very much an asset to your company. Please send him my regards, and praise and be sure to keep him in the company. My next reservation with Gate 1 is the 12 day Greece with iconic cruise to Turkey in 2022, and I will be sure to keep watch for more of the World to See. I'm very impressed by your company staff, from reservation assistance Charlotte Moses, tour manager, drivers, hotel staff, and will continue to travel with Gate 1, and will recommend Gate 1 to any one willing and able to "see more of the world for less", the time spent traveling with Gate 1 is enriching my life beyond what I could do if I were on my own.
Marcia S.
We traveled with Gate 1 to Egypt in November 2021. The itinerary was fabulous and it covered all of the major highlights this country has to offer featuring one of the world's greatest ancient civilizations. Gate 1 did a great job in making sure that our group adhered to a safe travel environment and even arranged for our return to the USA COVID testing which was done inside the convenience of our hotel. The tour manager, Omar, was one of the best we've ever had. His knowledge and excitement about each of the sites we visited really brought everything to life and made for a very educational and interesting experience. We love Gate 1 so much and know that they will do everything they can to make traveling as safe as possible that we already booked two trips for 2022. Don't wait to cross destinations off your bucket list any longer.....Get out there and see the world!

Understandably it can be stressful traveling during a pandemic. However we feel great loyalty to Gate One and hoped that every reservation held supports this great company to continue in these unprecedented times. Amr made us feel so comfortable and welcomed to his country. His upbeat personality allowed us to be joyful and relaxed and we returned home renewed and excited. Amr was concerned for the whole group's happiness and harmony and we became a family that week. In fact, we felt like he was extended family that we went to visit. Amr's knowledge of Egypt was outstanding and so interesting. We were encouraged to fully immerse ourselves in the experience and we certainly did! He had great tips at every location to maximize our time and be the most safe during the pandemic. We especially enjoyed the valley of the kings and Abu Simbel where we explored independently with his guidance.

Trip was excellent. Guide was unbelievably exceptional gave us incredible amounts of information and a feel at what happened in the last decade. The accommodations, the sites, river cruise and food were all terrific as the planning and arrangements were extremely well done. We enjoyed our Egypt experience.
Bryant T. Alberta, Canada
Trip was great. Fabulous tour guide, Walid, and a great group to travel with. Accommodations were good as always and the program was packed entertaining and informative.
Kimberlee N. Mount Vernon, WA
The trip to Egypt was wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed it. My guide Omar was great. He was so knowledgeable about Egypt’s history and very passionate. This was my second trip with Gate 1 and I will definitely take another one with your company. All accommodations were wonderful as well, and so was the staff at the hotels, the cruise, and Adel who was the person that met us at the airport. I can’t say an unkind word about my trip.
Matina K. Morton Grove, IL
My trip to Egypt was incredibly amazing, in all ways! Our guide, Amin was absolutely the best. His love of his country, it's history, and the people was so evident. He wanted us to see and learn as much as possible in our short time there, and to fall in love with Egypt. We did all that and more. Amin has very high standards, we all felt safe and personally cared for. He's an expert at timing and we saw the highlights before the crowds and at the most opportune times to experience them. For example, we went to the Luxor Temple as the sun was setting and the call to prayer sounded. Amin took such good care of us and we had one WOW after another all week. The hotels, the boat, the food, the bus, the optional tours all made for a perfect trip. The trip was magical.
Twinkle N. Atlanta, GA
Wonderful! Our tour guide, Ossama, was fantastic, both knowledgeable and personable. He went above and beyond the call of duty to take care of the group’s needs. Accommodations were great and our Nile cruise was a lot of fun and a welcome retreat. Staff on board were friendly and accommodating. It was an overall great trip.
Susan Z. Spotswood, NJ
Ever since we came back from Egypt we have been GUSHING about how wonderful the whole vacation was. We were a little apprehensive about spending so many nights on a boat but it turned out to be the the ideal way to see the fabulous sights. Egypt has a lot to offer and Amin, our tour manager was exceptional as a guide. His knowledge of Egyptology and his fastidious planning made everyday a “wow” day.
