9 Day Colonial Mexico, December 2018
Dummy Image

Colonial Mexico was my 31st trip with Gate 1 and I always love it when a trip exceeds expectations in every way, as this one did! I knew little about Mexico outside of a visit to Cancun and Mexico City, and this exploration of its Colonial Cities was marvelous. Everything started with having a superb tour manager, Bacho, who was personable, extremely kind, knowledgeable, funny and so organized. He was always there for us, whether it be having Pesos for bathroom stops or treating us to candy or prizes for quizzes, and even organizing a special double decker bus tour of Guadalajara, plus so much else - he is one of the very best! Our driver Aurelio was also skilled and safe and very pleasant. The itinerary was perfectly timed, with the right balance between time spent on walking tours of the cities and free time to explore. The hotels were all really lovely and well situated. The restaurants we went to for group meals were uniformly excellent. The dinner at the #1 restaurant in Morelia - San Miguelito was fantastic, as was the farewell dinner at El Sacromonte in Guadalajara. My personal favorite cities were the stops in Queretaro and Guanajuato and favorite city that we stayed in Morelia - I loved it so much that I am looking at spending a week at a language school there later this year! Can't say enough good things about this trip - safe, fun, interesting, cultural and very highly recommended. Thank you again!

The trip was very good and our guide, Mr. Douglas did an excellent job. He was very knowledgeable, funny and provided all the important information on arrival. His knowledge of the area was most helpful and we had a great time. I have already recommended this trip to few of my friends who did not make it this time.

The trip to the Copper Canyon was wonderful. The trip by bus showed us an extensive area of Sonora and Chihuahua. The vast canyon was beautiful to see in the varying light from morning to evening. The train ride from El Fuerte to Posada Barrancas was spectacular with the mountains and changing vegetation as we climbed higher. Douglas was an excellent tour leader. On the long bus rides, he told us about the economies of the states, the history of the areas and the history of Mexico ..... He kept us informed about the daily schedules and helped to make sure that everyone was having a good time.

Our trip was wonderful! My wife and I enjoyed every aspect of our journey, from the excellent service provided by our guide Juan to the great food and spectacular sights we visited along the way. We had a large and greatly diversified group that made for great conversation. We especially enjoyed our visit to the boarding school and mixing with the children. Your dedication to helping local people should be commended. Again, great trip and looking forward to our next Gate 1 tour in June.

The trip was awesome. The tour director, Mr. Bacho Lopez, was well read, articulate, effective, and efficient. He had very detailed and elaborate answers on history, fauna, and flora of the region as well as the local culture and industry. It was obvious that he is proud of his country and heritage and was more than happy to share his wisdom and experience with the tourists. Because I traveled alone and was the youngest female tourist on the trip, he had fatherly consideration for me. He is a true gentleman. I consider taking other trips to Mexico with Gate 1 in the future if he is the tour guide.

We were fortunate to have Manuel as our tour guide and coordinator. His knowledge of history, anthropology, ornithology, botany and many, many other fields is truly amazing. It was our pleasure to be in the company of a true professional and gentleman. We particularly enjoyed his sharp wit and his caring and passionate love for his country and work. We were a large group with...yet Manual handled every situation with tact and diplomacy. We were also equally impressed with the skills of our driver, Javier. We felt completely safe in his capable hands. And last, but not least, our assistant tour manager, Douglas, another wonderful travel mate, gave a wonderful presentation on pearl farming. We would gladly take this tour again, if assured the company of these three gentlemen. They truly made the trip remarkable.

It was a great trip. The selection of stopping points, Hotels and pit stops, was very good if with great variety. The driver was excellent. He knew his route and handled the vehicle extremely well under all conditions. The guide Juan was exceptional. Although he was from Mexico his diction was flawless. Many times accents make comprehension difficult. This was NEVER an issue with Juan. He knew every location and could provide details of every area that we traveled through. He was able to present the itinerary in a clear concise and entertaining manor. We enjoyed the trip immensely and would recommend it.

Frederick M. Dix Hills, NY
9 Day Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon & Zion National Parks , September 2017
Dummy Image

This was our first guided tour, and we were somewhat nervous, however it was a perfect vacation. Our guide David, affectingly became known as "Uncle Dave", was amazing and went over and beyond. He was extremely informative and was always available for any questions. Uncle Dave used his own personal time on our days and evenings of leisure to ensure that we had a great time. He took a group of 40 people that were strangers and of varied cultures and somehow made everyone feel that they were family and connected. Lee, the bus driver, was amazing. I am terrified of curvy mountain roads, however I felt safe with Lee. Lee was very friendly and polite, as well as informative. The hotels and meals were all very good for the price that was paid. My husband and I will be using Gate 1 again, and are recommending Gate 1 to all our friends. Every aspect of this vacation was wonderful, reservations are very easy to make, the trip itself was fantastic and the price was very reasonable. Thank you Gate 1 for providing such a great experience. Looking forward to our future adventures with Gate 1.

We enjoyed our trip to Mount Rushmore, Grand Teton, Yellowstone, Jackson, and Salt Lake City. Kelly was a great Tour Director. He passed out plenty of handouts and gave a lot of information of each site. It was very educational. He was very organized and kept the group together and on time. It was nice that we beat some of the crowds. John was also a great driver. Everyone felt safe with him driving. Very personable and friendly.

Our guide, Ashley was fantastic. She knew Alaska, she knew our route and she was able to prepare us and point out things of interest. She was very personable, looked after each of us, listened, answered all questions, never got flustered. She had a great sense of humor and told us some great personal stories. Seeing the top of Denali was very exciting and emotional and she understood that. You have a great tour guide in her.

From start to finish this was a wonderful and thoroughly enjoyable vacation. Our tour guide Danielle (Dani) was a delightful, super efficient, tour guide who always had a smile on her face, could fix any issues or problems quickly while making it all look effortless. She was extremely well versed on information on all aspects of the sights we were seeing or going to. We learned a lot of facts and history while journeying along from stop to stop. We had a fresh supply of cold water available each and every day, as well as snacks for longer times on the bus, before meal destinations were reached. She was a true gem. Our bus driver John, was a super bus driver, and drove the mountain roads with skill and care always with his passengers safety first and foremost. Our day in Yellowstone with our Park Ranger, Kimberly, was yet another information packed day. We never would have learned so much and seen so much without her. It was a great addition to our tour. This was our first “bus tour”, and would take another with Gate 1 again. The ease of entering and exiting all the parks and venues was again, one of the highlights. Parking, entrance fees, etc. was all handled as we watched single cars search for parking spots and wait in line to pay fees. All and all, it was truly one of our best vacations and we look forward to joining another Gate 1 tour in the future.

The trip was great and our guide, Kelly, was exceptional. I was very impressed with his wealth of knowledge as well as his efforts to accommodate and please everyone no matter what the situation. Trip was fantastic, made so by our tour director, Kerry. He was very organized, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and always went above and beyond to show us everything he thought we might be interested in, and made everything we did fun. He is passionate about the outdoors and the parks and that made the trip. In our opinion we could not have had a better leader. He organized speakers that were extremely interesting, especially Peter the Navajo Code Talker, as well as a dutch oven lunch and picnic lunches so we could spent more time seeing everything. Our bus driver was amazing as well. She handled that bus with amazing expertise, and was always happy.

Trip was great and we had a fantastic time. From the red rocks of Sedona to Old Faithful and Mt. Rushmore, to the bison and bears we saw, we were constantly in awe of things we had previously only seen in pictures. We even got to watch the Mormon Tabernacle Choir practice for their broadcast. Our guide, Leslie, was terrific, so personable, organized and informative on the areas we visited. Would definitely recommend this trip to anyone considering seeing the national parks. So many natural wonders out there!

It was a great trip; one of our best. Kelly was a superb leader and very knowledgeable about the areas we visited. Great group and wonderful that it was only 19 people.

We had a very wonderful tour to Copper Canyon in Mexico. Sergio, our tour director, was not only knowledgeable with Mexican history and indigenous cultures but he was also a fantastic singer! We really enjoyed his singing with the Mariachi and other performers. It was another great tour with Gate 1.

Our, guide, Kris, was knowledgeable, caring, and had a sense of humor. Our local guide, in the French Quarter, Karen, was fabulous. We learned so much of the history of Louisiana. Hotels were fine. The meals on Gate 1 were excellent, and gave us a good taste of Cajun cooking. The farewell dinner, at The Creole School of Cooking, was good, and the Chef was not only a good chef, but a really good entertainer. Enjoyed the other local guides also.

Our trip was just wonderful!! Probably one of the best we have been on including Gate 1. The hotels were just great & your Tour Manager Kris Kimball & bus driver "T" could not have been better. Took care of everything from start to finish. She was so helpful & the Gate 1 Team had really done their homework of all the Great & Unusual places we visited & ate our meals. New Orleans was great-only place we would have added was visit to WWII museum, Baton Rouge was marvelous but our favorite was Thurs. March 23-Cajun Country-places we visited like McGee's Landing, Vermilionville, Martin's Accordion Center, and dinner at Randol's ALL VERY UNUSUAL & A REAL TREAT, Of course the Tabasco factory a must (main reason we went, just sorry they were not bottling on our day & wish we could have had a guided tour); New Orleans Cooking School & Farewell dinner with Kevin Bolton a real treat!!! he was marvelous & the food just great!!! All in all beyond our expectations!!! Again Kris was GREAT & "T" marvelous...Optional tours were just grand!! Laura Plantation & Nottoway Plantation well worth the cost!!!

It was a terrific trip. All the accommodations and activities were great. Bacho, our tour leader, did a very good job. The biggest bonus that I enjoyed was all the meals that were included. I'm already looking forward to my next trip in June!

It was AWESOME! The Hotel Provincial was spectacular - and we really enjoyed the NCL cruise (we have cruised many times, but this was the first time on NCL). Everything that Gate 1 arranged, including the transport to the ship and the walking tour of New Orleans French Quarter, worked out perfectly... Thanks again. You guys have done right by us four times now... and we're planning another big vacation through you/Discovery Tours!

It was another incredible trip arranged by Gate 1 Travel; and felt we got two vacations for the price of one - 3 nights in New Orleans and 7-day cruise to the Western Caribbean. It was such a great contrast to combine both. The Astor Crowne Plaza in New Orleans was perfect - close walking distance to French Quarter, restaurants and sights. Thank you!
