Participants must be in excellent physical condition in order to keep up the pace on hikes. Advanced training is recommended prior to the trip. You will encounter some uneven surfaces, stairs, steep steps, unpaved and rocky terrain, as well as significant slopes. Walking sticks are recommended. Only "nature toilets" will be available during the hikes, due to limited access to bathroom facilities. We suggest you check with your healthcare provider before signing up for this tour. The route and activities are subject to change based on weather conditions. It is recommended to hold a personal travel insurance to cover any kind of accident. This is a Walking program.

DAY 1, Saturday - Depart for Italy

DAY 2, Sunday - Arrive in Florence, Transfer to Montecatini
Arrive in Florence and transfer to your hotel in Montecatini, known for its world-famous thermal baths. The rest of the day is at leisure. Your tour will begin with an orientation meeting with your Tour Manager at approximately 6 PM, followed by a light dinner. We recommend that you select flights which arrive no later than 4 PM

DAY 3, Monday - Montecarlo Querciona Trail, Lunch in Fattoria, Lucca
Travel to the medieval village of Montecarlo for a nature hike on the Querciona trail. Enjoy a farm lunch before continuing through the rolling Tuscan countryside, dotted with olive and fig trees, to Lucca. With its massive 17th century walls that completely surround the city, Lucca is a jewel of medieval architecture. Walk along the winding streets of the original Roman grid revealing layers of history at every turn. Arrive at the Church of San Michele adorned by its beautiful piazza, occupying the site of the ancient Roman Forum

DAY 4, Tuesday - Apuan Mountain Route, Colonnata, Marble Quarries and Pietrasanta
Morning drive to the village of Colonnata, perched on the slopes of the Apuan Alps, known for its delicacy Lardo di Colonnata and for its white marble quarries. Begin the loop trail on paved and dirt stone roads, surrounded by secular chestnut trees also called ''bread trees'', and enjoy views of the Gioia quarry and the coastline. Follow the trail to Vergheto, an abandoned village, offering beautiful panoramas of the surrounding mountains. After a picnic lunch, hike back to Colonnata. Proceed to the town of Pietrasanta with free time to explore on your own before returning to Montecatini

DAY 5, Wednesday - Massaciuccoli Lake Route, Viareggio
Begin your hike today in the archaeological area on the shores of Lake Massaciuccoli, with its ruins of Villa dei Venulei. View the thermal complex, from where you can enjoy sweeping vistas of the lake and the Tyrrhenian Sea. Continue to what once was the summer residence of Elisa and Paolina Bonaparte, Napoleon's sisters. End your hike in Massaciuccoli Lake, with its rich flora and fauna. After lunch at a local restaurant, travel to the seaside resort town of Viareggio, with its Art Deco architecture and golden beaches

DAY 6, Thursday - Vinci, Artimino and Carmignano
Today, begin the exploration of the land of Montalbano, famous for its wines. A short drive will take you to Vinci, Leonardo's hometown to begin your hike. Start uphill through a quiet paved road for about a mile, then the trail takes you over dirt paths, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. Reach the monumental Holm Oak of Faltognano. From here, enjoy panoramic views of Vinci and the plain of Valdarno. Following a picnic lunch, travel through Carmignano, to the village of Artimino, known for the Medicean Villa La Ferdinanda, nesttled amidst hills and vineyards. Cap the day with dinner of local specialties with wine before returning to Montecatini

DAY 7, Friday - Via Francigena to San Gimignano
Today discover a small section of the Via Francigena. In medieval times it was an important pilgrimage route from Canterbury, England to Rome. Travel south to begin your walk from the Monastery of Pancole to the medieval village of Collemuccioli. Continuing your hike through beautiful landscape, arrive in San Gimignano, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spend free time to take in the quaint atmosphere, wander through the alleyways, admiring the churches, palaces and medieval houses. In the afternoon head back to Montecatini

DAY 8, Saturday - Valdinievole Hills, Buggiano to Cozzile Trail
Today is dedicated to the Valdinievole hills. A short drive takes you to the medieval town of Buggiano, where you begin your hike. Arrive in Cozzile with its 19th century Gothic style castle dominating the sister village of Massa and the entire valley below. From its terrace, enjoy panoramic views of the nine Provinces of Tuscany, weather permitting. Continue your hike on the main road until you reach Massa with its surrounding walls, narrow cobblestone alleys, and ancient churches. Return to Montecatini and spend time at leisure. Tonight at dinner, bid farewell to your Tour Manager and to Italy
