Is This Trip Right for You?
This moderately active trip covers a lot of ground most days. Expect from three to four hours of walking every touring day, where you could encounter some uneven surfaces, cobbled streets, stairs, and steep slopes. Some hiking may be required to access some sites. The longest day spent on the bus is from Dubrovnik to Split. For your comfort, several stops will be made along the way, including a lunch break. Getting Ready to Go |
Passports and Visas |
It is each traveler's responsibility to have a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the dates of travel and a visa if required. IMPORTANT: Passengers who are not U.S. citizens must check with the respective consulate or a visa agency to determine what personal identification is required. Passengers who enter, leave and then re-enter the same country on their itinerary should check if they require a double-entry visa. Passport applications are available at most U.S. Post Offices, as well as at regional Passport Agencies. Passengers requiring visas, whether obtained in advance or locally upon arrival, should ensure that their passport has blank pages.

If you are traveling with friends or family who are booked on another reservation, please make sure that we are aware. On occasion, we may operate more than one vehicle on your tour departure in which case we will ensure that guests will be assigned together. This is achieved by connecting your reservations before your departure. Once you arrive in your destination, it may not be possible to make assignment changes. Trip Preparation |
A little pre-planning can make your trip go a lot smoother. Several weeks before your trip, make a list of what you will need to take with you. Make sure your personal documents (passports, visas, driver's license) are in order. Make sure also that you have enough prescription medications to last through the trip and carry them with you in case your luggage is delayed. Bring a change of clothes in your carry-on bag in the event that your luggage is delayed or lost. Lost luggage is common. We strongly urge you to consider carry-ons instead of checked bags when possible, and when checking a bag is necessary, choose a bag color and identification that stands out. We suggest that you make photocopies of passports, visas, personal ID and any other important travel documents and pack them separately from the originals. You may also make a digital copy of your passport to keep a clear picture with the important details in your cell phone or digital camera photos. If you lose the originals while traveling, you'll have copies for easier reporting and replacement. Pack a list of medications including dosage and generic names. You may consider bringing a small supply of over the counter medications for headaches and/or anti-diarrhea pills (especially when traveling outside of the USA and Western Europe). We recommend that you pack a portable alarm clock. Due to security reasons, many museums have restrictions on the size of bags that can be taken inside and backpacks, carry-on bags or large purses may not be permitted. It is recommended to bring a small shoulder bag or purse to use in these situations instead. Avoid placing valuables such as cameras in your checked luggage. Airplane pressure can cause similar pressure in your body, most notably in ears, as well as liquid tubes and bottles. Your physician can suggest medication for decongestion. We suggest that you place liquid containers into Ziploc bags to catch any leaks. |

When dialing a number from one country to another, you should proceed as follows: dial your country's Exit Code (often indicated with a “+” sign), then the destination Country Code, then the Phone Number. As a courtesy service, complimentary airline seat assignments are requested on your behalf and, when available, are displayed in order of Passenger #1, #2 and so on. Assignments reflect the best available seats at the time of booking. Some airlines and/or fare types do not allow for pre-seating and require this be done at airport check-in only; in which case the display shows “N/A”. Seats are subject to change by your airline(s) including, for example, when there is a schedule change or equipment change after your initial booking; this may cause seat assignments to be changed or even cancelled. Some airlines offer preferred seating for an additional fee; these seats may only be purchased directly from the airline. You will need your family name and the 6-digit airline “Record Locator” which is displayed with the flight details on your reservation. In the event that you change seat assignments directly with your airline, changes will not be reflected on your invoice or documents. At the time that Gate 1 travel documents are issued, the currently assigned seats will be listed based on the assignments stored in your airline reservation at that time. Luggage & Packing |
Checked bags are typically limited to a total dimension of 62 inches by adding length + width + height (example: 26"+26"+10" = 62”), and a maximum weight of 50 lbs (23kg). Smart Bags with a USB charging port, GPS tracking device and other high-tech features are prohibited as checked or carry-on baggage unless the bag is made with removable batteries and the batteries are removed and stored separately. Many airlines charge for checked bags including flights which begin and end within the USA. The most inexpensive airfare options commonly known as Basic Economy airfares do not include any checked bags nor seat assignments before the day of departure. However, for some airlines, other airfare categories also do not include checked baggage. This will be clearly displayed in our airfare selection and on your invoice. Where available, we highly recommend selecting airfares which include at least 1 piece of checked baggage. Gate 1 Travel is not responsible for checked bag fees, excess luggage or weight charges levied by an airline. Checked baggage allowances displayed on reservation details and invoices reflect the applicable allowance at the time of booking but are subject to change by your airline(s). Avoid placing valuables in your checked luggage. Federal law forbids the carriage of hazardous materials aboard the aircraft in your luggage, your carry-on or on your person. Hazardous materials include explosives, compressed gases, flammable liquids and solids, oxidizers, poisons, corrosives and radioactive materials. What to do if You Need Assistance |
Whether you purchased your airfare from Gate 1 Travel or from the airline directly, please bear in mind that Gate 1 Travel does not own nor operate the airline(s), nor the airport facilities where they operate. At times, flying can be a frustrating experience, especially when things do not go exactly as planned, and airline explanations can be confusing or even misleading. Should you face a problem, remain calm and seek assistance either from the airline directly or from Gate 1. Please be aware that in most cases, on the day of your flight(s), airlines pass responsibility for your reservation to their staff at the airport and it is not always possible for Gate 1 Travel to intervene on your behalf, either through our reservations system or directly with your airline. |

Upon arrival, please complete immigration formalities if necessary and claim your luggage. If your program includes airport arrival transfers, check your voucher for specific instructions, as they vary with every destination. In most cases, you will be met after collecting your luggage or passing through Customs by the local representative who will be holding a Gate 1 Travel sign and/or a sign with your name on it. In some instances you will be instructed to walk a short distance to a transportation counter. The company's name and location will be printed on your voucher. If for any reason you do not connect with the Gate 1 transfer personnel, go to the Tourist Information Desk and ask them to page the Gate 1 Travel representative or phone the number on your voucher. If you are delayed due to lost luggage, phone the number on the voucher or have a companion exit the Customs Area to advise the transfer representative. Be wary of airport scammers who offer unwanted assistance. If you are arriving without a pre-arranged transfer, we strongly recommend going to the Tourist Information Desk to ask for a licensed taxi or transfer service. You may be asked to pay for the transfer at the desk prior to the trip, this will ensure you are not charged extra during the trip. |
What To Do When Your Flight Is Delayed |
Airlines do not share flight manifest information. Therefore, the only way we may learn of a delay or schedule change while you are traveling is from you, the traveler. The sooner you are able to contact one of our offices, the better we can respond. Please refer to the Emergency Assistance instructions on this same document. Gate 1 Travel is only able to guarantee pre-reserved arrival transfers for up to one hour from the scheduled time, no matter the cause. In case you are delayed for any reason, and are unable to follow the instructions on your voucher, please make independent transfer arrangements and retain your receipts. Unused tour services, including transfers and hotel nights are not refundable. Upon you return home you will need to contact your airline and/or insurance carrier to investigate the possibility of reimbursement for any unused tour services. |

Transfers |
Due to local traffic and other extenuating circumstances, we ask that you allow 30 minutes from your scheduled transfer time for our representative to arrive. This includes hotel, airport and cruise transfers. Such possible delays are taken into consideration in scheduling transfers and you should therefore have no concerns about arriving late for your tour, flight or cruise. For transfers from a hotel, let the hotel reception desk or concierge know that you are waiting for a transfer. In the case of a missed transfer, reimbursement for your out-of-pocket expenses will be considered provided you obtain a written statement from the hotel's front desk verifying the length of time you waited, and the time you left the hotel, and a receipt for your transportation with time and date. The cost of a transfer is more expensive than hiring a taxi, as a Gate 1 transfer necessarily includes round trip service, or 'dead-leg'. Often the places of call (airports, seaports, hotels) demand entrance and parking fees, where drivers may have to wait for up to an hour. Passengers comfortable hiring a taxi on their own and do not require assistance will save money. |
Venice Transfers - Most transfers in Venice are provided by water taxi (occasionally transfers may be provided by car). Only those hotels with a canal mooring can be reached directly. For all others, the water taxi will drop off and pick up at the nearest mooring. It will then be necessary to walk to your hotel. In some cases the hotel may be several blocks away. Some mooring areas cannot be reached during high or low tide, heavy rain, or storms. In this event, the nearest available mooring will be used. Since few of the mooring areas have porters to assist with transporting luggage, it is strongly recommended that you travel with one piece of wheeled luggage that you are comfortable handling on your own. |
Venice Airport Link Shared Water Taxi Transfers (Hotel to Airport) - The departure time & location of your transfer will be advised at least 24 hours prior to your departure. If you do not receive this information by that time, please call the Local Phone number provided on your voucher. Please be at the mooring location indicated at least 5 minutes prior to pick up time. Your pre-paid voucher is valid only for the Airport Link water taxi operated by BUCINTORO and only for the date indicated on your voucher and time communicated locally. Your pre-paid Gate 1 voucher is NOT valid for any other water taxi. Upon arrival at the airport, it will be necessary to walk approximately half a mile, with your luggage, from the dock to the terminal. |
About Your Accommodations |
Hotels |
Gate 1 Travel has carefully selected each hotel based on overall quality, location, price, food, service, and cleanliness. All rooms are standard twin-bedded (two single beds) rooms with private facilities. Special requests such as bed types, smoking preference and connecting rooms are subject to availability. Room selection in all cases, unless otherwise reserved, is strictly at the discretion of the hotel's management on a run-of-house basis. Triple rooms consist of standard twin beds or one double bed plus a sofa/folding bed or cot for third person except in the U.S. and Canada, where triple rooms often consist of two double/queen beds for three persons; where available, a fee may be charged by the hotel for the addition of a cot/rollaway. The number of persons accommodated does not dictate the room size. Although available at most 4 and 5 star hotels, the use of air-conditioning abroad differs greatly from the United States, and is often shut down at night and from the end until the start of the summer months. Some lodges and accommodations in remote regions may not have all of the amenities, such as hairdryer, alarm clock and room service, that you might find in a larger hotel located in a city center. |

Venice City Tax - The authorities of Venice apply a city tax on all hotels. The tax requires a contribution of Euro 3.50 per person per night for a 3 star hotel, Euro 4.50 per person per night for 4 star hotels and Euro 5 per person per night for a 5 star hotel. It will be charged and collected by your hotel and is payable in cash only. We regret that we are currently unable to collect this tax in advance or include it in your price for customers who are traveling independently or who arrange independent pre- or post-tour stays on an escorted tour. This tax is included in the tour price for customers who are traveling on an escorted tour accompanied by a Tour Manager who is able to pay directly to the hotel on your behalf. About Your Sightseeing |
To ensure a pleasant and fair experience for passengers on our escorted tours, there is a mandatory seat rotation policy on our motor coaches which will be organized by your Tour Manager. On river cruises, color-coded group splits may be used for shoreside included and Optional tours. Some buses are equipped with toilet facility, however they are strictly intended for emergency use only and often require the vehicle to stop for safety reasons before use. When travel dates coincide with religious holidays and national celebrations, some monuments and sites may be closed, sometimes without prior notice. On these occasions, escorted touring itineraries may be amended to reflect these closures. Occasionally, during holidays and certain periods, and/or due to other unforeseen circumstances including weather conditions, there may be last-minute changes, sometimes after arrival, which may affect the sequence of the tour and locations visited. National monuments and tourist sites regularly undergo renovations, which can obscure the monument's view. No tour will be canceled due to renovations, however Gate 1 will decide based on the conditions whether to amend an itinerary. To respect the privacy of all tour participants, your tour manager will not organize a group photo or collect passenger email addresses for a group list. |

Most people enjoy bringing home at least one souvenir from the countries they visit. However, some find any amount of shopping to be too much while others never find enough opportunities. We have built into our Escorted itineraries a few shopping stops at recommended spots. These stops are designed to enhance your experience by providing an opportunity to see first-hand quality locally crafted merchandise which you may not be able to find on your own. Shops are checked to ensure the quality and authenticity of the products they offer, and we limit guides from visiting other locations. In some cases, we plan these stops to provide an opportunity to use clean bathrooms and to stretch your legs. All shops want your satisfaction, and therefore in case of any misunderstanding they ask that you kindly submit your claim to us within one week of the item's receipt. Claims submitted later will be subject to each store’s policies. While shopping independently, we advise you to exercise care and common sense when making any purchase. Always get a formal receipt. And remember that, just like in this country, if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is! About Tax-Free Shopping Tax-Free Shopping allows shoppers to reclaim the VAT (Value-Added Tax) or GST (Goods and Services Tax) they have paid on their purchases in some foreign countries in accordance with restrictions and procedures as dictated by each country. If you've purchased an escorted tour program, your travel documents will include telephone numbers of local Gate 1 Travel representatives who will do their utmost to assist you in the event of an emergency. Italy - Family and social ties are, broadly speaking, stronger in Italy than in other Western European countries, and the Roman Catholic church retains a strong cultural influence. Common courtesies should be practiced. Casual dress is appropriate, but beachwear should be confined to the beach and poolside. Conservative clothing should be worn when visiting religious buildings, meaning legs and shoulders should be covered. While the cities are very safe, pickpocketing can occur. Avoid conspicuous expensive jewelry and be mindful of your wallet or handbag. Even though many Italians smoke, smoking is prohibited in all public buildings, public transport, cinemas and restaurants. |
Slovenia - Dress should be casual, but conservative, except at formal dinners and upscale hotels or restaurants. At restaurants, bread will often be brought and charged even if not requested. Please do not expect to find the variety of food selection outside of the local norm. Every effort will be made to honor special dietary requests selected no later than 5 days prior to departure in the passenger details section of your reservation. In addition, we recommend that you make preferences known to your tour manager upon arrival, and at each hotel/restaurant. Papal Audiences, Vatican City - Italy |
General audiences with His Holiness the Pope are usually held once a week (Wednesdays at 11 a.m.) in Vatican City. They may be held inside the Basilica itself or in the hall of the Papal Audiences (Aula Paolo VI, Seating 7000), and in summer in Saint Peter's Square or in the papal summer residence at Castel Gandolfo. Please note that Castel Gandolfo is located approximately 20 miles south-east of Rome, not in Vatican City. Catholics are requested to have a letter of introduction from their parish priest. For this audience women should dress modestly, with arms and head covered. Dress should be dark or subdued in color. Men are requested to wear a tie and jacket. |
New Venice Visitor Tax Regulation - It was recently announced that the city of Venice will be implementing an entrance tax of 10 Euros per person for tourists visiting the city for the day. In most cases, the tax will be included in the cost of the transportation to access the city center, including cruise, taxi, or public transportation. However, there may be instances where visitors will need to pay the tax upon arrival. We regret that we are currently unable to collect this tax in advance. Due to the uncertainty of this new regulation the information above is subject to change. |

Passports and Visas |
It is each traveler's responsibility to have a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the dates of travel and a visa if required. Please check the information at www.gate1travel.com/visas.aspx for the specific country/region you are visiting for more details. IMPORTANT: Passengers who are not U.S. citizens must check with the respective consulate or a visa agency to determine what personal identification is required. Passengers who enter, leave and then re-enter the same country on their itinerary should check if they require a double-entry visa. Passport applications are available at most U.S. Post Offices, as well as at regional Passport Agencies. Passengers requiring visas, whether obtained in advance or locally upon arrival, should ensure that their passport has blank pages.

Traveling with Friends or Family? |
If you are traveling with friends or family who are booked on another reservation, please make sure that we are aware. On occasion, we may operate more than one vehicle on your tour departure in which case we will ensure that guests will be assigned together. This is achieved by connecting your reservations before your departure. Once you arrive in your destination, it may not be possible to make assignment changes. To check that your reservations are linked, log into https://www.gate1travel.com/res with your email and password, select your reservation number, and check to see that your reservations are indicated as "Traveling With" at the top right side of the display. |
Trip Preparation |
A little pre-planning can make your trip go a lot smoother. Several weeks before your trip, make a list of what you will need to take with you. Make sure your personal documents (passports, visas, driver's license) are in order. Make sure also that you have enough prescription medications to last through the trip and carry them with you in case your luggage is delayed. Bring a change of clothes in your carry-on bag in the event that your luggage is delayed or lost. Lost luggage is common. We strongly urge you to consider carry-ons instead of checked bags when possible, and when checking a bag is necessary, choose a bag color and identification that stands out. We suggest that you make photocopies of passports, visas, personal ID and any other important travel documents and pack them separately from the originals. You may also make a digital copy of your passport to keep a clear picture with the important details in your cell phone or digital camera photos. If you lose the originals while traveling, you'll have copies for easier reporting and replacement. Pack a list of medications including dosage and generic names. You may consider bringing a small supply of over the counter medications for headaches and/or anti-diarrhea pills (especially when traveling outside of the USA and Western Europe). We recommend that you pack a portable alarm clock. Due to security reasons, many museums have restrictions on the size of bags that can be taken inside and backpacks, carry-on bags or large purses may not be permitted. It is recommended to bring a small shoulder bag or purse to use in these situations instead. Avoid placing valuables such as cameras in your checked luggage. Airplane pressure can cause similar pressure in your body, most notably in ears, as well as liquid tubes and bottles. Your physician can suggest medication for decongestion. We suggest that you place liquid containers into Ziploc bags to catch any leaks. |
Travel Safety Advice: The safety of our guests is Gate 1’s #1 concern. Before making the decision to reserve your vacation, we want you to be aware of potential situations which may impact your holiday. While most of the time our programs run precisely according to plans, on rare occasion force majeure events including weather, transportation mechanical issues, or uninhabitable accommodation, civil unrest and even criminal or terrorist activities will present themselves unexpectedly and with little or no notice. Making Telephone Calls from One Country to Another |
When dialing a number from one country to another, you should proceed as follows: dial your country's Exit Code (often indicated with a “+” sign), then the destination Country Code, then the Phone Number. As a courtesy service, complimentary airline seat assignments are requested on your behalf and, when available, are displayed in order of Passenger #1, #2 and so on. Assignments reflect the best available seats at the time of booking. Some airlines and/or fare types do not allow for pre-seating and require this be done at airport check-in only; in which case the display shows “N/A”. Seats are subject to change by your airline(s) including, for example, when there is a schedule change or equipment change after your initial booking; this may cause seat assignments to be changed or even cancelled. Some airlines offer preferred seating for an additional fee; these seats may only be purchased directly from the airline. You will need your family name and the 6-digit airline “Record Locator” which is displayed with the flight details on your reservation. In the event that you change seat assignments directly with your airline, changes will not be reflected on your invoice or documents. At the time that Gate 1 travel documents are issued, the currently assigned seats will be listed based on the assignments stored in your airline reservation at that time. Luggage & Packing |
Checked bags are typically limited to a total dimension of 62 inches by adding length + width + height (example: 26"+26"+10" = 62”), and a maximum weight of 50 lbs (23kg). Smart Bags with a USB charging port, GPS tracking device and other high-tech features are prohibited as checked or carry-on baggage unless the bag is made with removable batteries and the batteries are removed and stored separately. Many airlines charge for checked bags including flights which begin and end within the USA. The most inexpensive airfare options commonly known as Basic Economy airfares do not include any checked bags nor seat assignments before the day of departure. However, for some airlines, other airfare categories also do not include checked baggage. This will be clearly displayed in our airfare selection and on your invoice. Where available, we highly recommend selecting airfares which include at least 1 piece of checked baggage. Gate 1 Travel is not responsible for checked bag fees, excess luggage or weight charges levied by an airline. Checked baggage allowances displayed on reservation details and invoices reflect the applicable allowance at the time of booking but are subject to change by your airline(s). Avoid placing valuables in your checked luggage. Federal law forbids the carriage of hazardous materials aboard the aircraft in your luggage, your carry-on or on your person. A violation can result in five years’ imprisonment and penalties of $250,000 or more (49 U.S.C. 5124). Hazardous materials include explosives, compressed gases, flammable liquids and solids, oxidizers, poisons, corrosives and radioactive materials. Examples: Paints, lighter fluid, fireworks, tear gases, oxygen bottles, and radio-pharmaceuticals. There are special exceptions for small quantities (up to 70 ounces total) of medicinal and toilet articles carried in your luggage and certain smoking materials carried on your person. Check the Transportation and Safety Administration (TSA) website www.tsa.gov to find out the current list of acceptable items you may bring on a plane before packing. We recommend that you use brightly colored luggage tags, straps or other identifiers to help you locate you luggage upon arrival or to describe it in the event that it is lost. |

What to do if You Need Assistance |
Whether you purchased your airfare from Gate 1 Travel or from the airline directly, please bear in mind that Gate 1 Travel does not own nor operate the airline(s), nor the airport facilities where they operate. At times, flying can be a frustrating experience, especially when things do not go exactly as planned, and airline explanations can be confusing or even misleading. Should you face a problem, remain calm and seek assistance either from the airline directly or from Gate 1. Please be aware that in most cases, on the day of your flight(s), airlines pass responsibility for your reservation to their staff at the airport and it is not always possible for Gate 1 Travel to intervene on your behalf, either through our reservations system or directly with your airline. |

Upon arrival, please complete immigration formalities if necessary and claim your luggage. If your program includes airport arrival transfers, check your voucher for specific instructions, as they vary with every destination. In most cases, you will be met after collecting your luggage or passing through Customs by the local representative who will be holding a Gate 1 Travel sign and/or a sign with your name on it. In some instances you will be instructed to walk a short distance to a transportation counter. The company's name and location will be printed on your voucher. If for any reason you do not connect with the Gate 1 transfer personnel, go to the Tourist Information Desk and ask them to page the Gate 1 Travel representative or phone the number on your voucher. If you are delayed due to lost luggage, phone the number on the voucher or have a companion exit the Customs Area to advise the transfer representative. Be wary of airport scammers who offer unwanted assistance. If you are arriving without a pre-arranged transfer, we strongly recommend going to the Tourist Information Desk to ask for a licensed taxi or transfer service. You may be asked to pay for the transfer at the desk prior to the trip, this will ensure you are not charged extra during the trip. |
What To Do When Your Flight Is Delayed |
Airlines do not share flight manifest information. Therefore, the only way we may learn of a delay or schedule change while you are traveling is from you, the traveler. The sooner you are able to contact one of our offices, the better we can respond. Please refer to the Emergency Assistance instructions on this same document. Gate 1 Travel is only able to guarantee pre-reserved arrival transfers for up to one hour from the scheduled time, no matter the cause. In case you are delayed for any reason, and are unable to follow the instructions on your voucher, please make independent transfer arrangements and retain your receipts. Unused tour services, including transfers and hotel nights are not refundable. Upon you return home you will need to contact your airline and/or insurance carrier to investigate the possibility of reimbursement for any unused tour services. |

Transfers |
Due to local traffic and other extenuating circumstances, we ask that you allow 30 minutes from your scheduled transfer time for our representative to arrive. This includes hotel, airport and cruise transfers. Such possible delays are taken into consideration in scheduling transfers and you should therefore have no concerns about arriving late for your tour, flight or cruise. For transfers from a hotel, let the hotel reception desk or concierge know that you are waiting for a transfer. In the case of a missed transfer, reimbursement for your out-of-pocket expenses will be considered provided you obtain a written statement from the hotel's front desk verifying the length of time you waited, and the time you left the hotel, and a receipt for your transportation with time and date. The cost of a transfer is more expensive than hiring a taxi, as a Gate 1 transfer necessarily includes round trip service, or 'dead-leg'. Often the places of call (airports, seaports, hotels) demand entrance and parking fees, where drivers may have to wait for up to an hour. Passengers comfortable hiring a taxi on their own and do not require assistance will save money. |
Venice Transfers - Most transfers in Venice are provided by water taxi (occasionally transfers may be provided by car). Only those hotels with a canal mooring can be reached directly. For all others, the water taxi will drop off and pick up at the nearest mooring. It will then be necessary to walk to your hotel. In some cases the hotel may be several blocks away. Some mooring areas cannot be reached during high or low tide, heavy rain, or storms. In this event, the nearest available mooring will be used. Since few of the mooring areas have porters to assist with transporting luggage, it is strongly recommended that you travel with one piece of wheeled luggage that you are comfortable handling on your own. |
Venice Airport Link Shared Water Taxi Transfers (Hotel to Airport) - The departure time & location of your transfer will be advised at least 24 hours prior to your departure. If you do not receive this information by that time, please call the Local Phone number provided on your voucher. Please be at the mooring location indicated at least 5 minutes prior to pick up time. Your pre-paid voucher is valid only for the Airport Link water taxi operated by BUCINTORO and only for the date indicated on your voucher and time communicated locally. Your pre-paid Gate 1 voucher is NOT valid for any other water taxi. Upon arrival at the airport, it will be necessary to walk approximately half a mile, with your luggage, from the dock to the terminal. |
About Your Accommodations |
Hotels |
Gate 1 Travel has carefully selected each hotel based on overall quality, location, price, food, service, and cleanliness. All rooms are standard twin-bedded (two single beds) rooms with private facilities. Special requests such as bed types, smoking preference and connecting rooms are subject to availability. Room selection in all cases, unless otherwise reserved, is strictly at the discretion of the hotel's management on a run-of-house basis. Triple rooms consist of standard twin beds or one double bed plus a sofa/folding bed or cot for third person except in the U.S. and Canada, where triple rooms often consist of two double/queen beds for three persons; where available, a fee may be charged by the hotel for the addition of a cot/rollaway. The number of persons accommodated does not dictate the room size. Although available at most 4 and 5 star hotels, the use of air-conditioning abroad differs greatly from the United States, and is often shut down at night and from the end until the start of the summer months. Some lodges and accommodations in remote regions may not have all of the amenities, such as hairdryer, alarm clock and room service, that you might find in a larger hotel located in a city center. |

Venice City Tax - The authorities of Venice apply a city tax on all hotels. The tax requires a contribution of Euro 3.50 per person per night for a 3 star hotel, Euro 4.50 per person per night for 4 star hotels and Euro 5 per person per night for a 5 star hotel. It will be charged and collected by your hotel and is payable in cash only. We regret that we are currently unable to collect this tax in advance or include it in your price for customers who are traveling independently or who arrange independent pre- or post-tour stays on an escorted tour. This tax is included in the tour price for customers who are traveling on an escorted tour accompanied by a Tour Manager who is able to pay directly to the hotel on your behalf. About Your Sightseeing |
To ensure a pleasant and fair experience for passengers on our escorted tours, there is a mandatory seat rotation policy on our motor coaches which will be organized by your Tour Manager. On river cruises, color-coded group splits may be used for shoreside included and Optional tours. Some buses are equipped with toilet facility, however they are strictly intended for emergency use only and often require the vehicle to stop for safety reasons before use. When travel dates coincide with religious holidays and national celebrations, some monuments and sites may be closed, sometimes without prior notice. On these occasions, escorted touring itineraries may be amended to reflect these closures. Occasionally, during holidays and certain periods, and/or due to other unforeseen circumstances including weather conditions, there may be last-minute changes, sometimes after arrival, which may affect the sequence of the tour and locations visited. National monuments and tourist sites regularly undergo renovations, which can obscure the monument's view. No tour will be canceled due to renovations, however Gate 1 will decide based on the conditions whether to amend an itinerary. To respect the privacy of all tour participants, your tour manager will not organize a group photo or collect passenger email addresses for a group list. |

Most people enjoy bringing home at least one souvenir from the countries they visit. However, some find any amount of shopping to be too much while others never find enough opportunities. We have built into our Escorted itineraries a few shopping stops at recommended spots. These stops are designed to enhance your experience by providing an opportunity to see first-hand quality locally crafted merchandise which you may not be able to find on your own. Shops are checked to ensure the quality and authenticity of the products they offer, and we limit guides from visiting other locations. In some cases, we plan these stops to provide an opportunity to use clean bathrooms and to stretch your legs. All shops want your satisfaction, and therefore in case of any misunderstanding they ask that you kindly submit your claim to us within one week of the item's receipt. Claims submitted later will be subject to each store’s policies. While shopping independently, we advise you to exercise care and common sense when making any purchase. Always get a formal receipt. And remember that, just like in this country, if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is! About Tax-Free Shopping Tax-Free Shopping allows shoppers to reclaim the VAT (Value-Added Tax) or GST (Goods and Services Tax) they have paid on their purchases in some foreign countries in accordance with restrictions and procedures as dictated by each country. Refund eligibility varies by country, but may require presenting a scanned copy of your passport at the time of purchase, a minimum amount spent, or providing original store receipts. If you've purchased an escorted tour program, your travel documents will include telephone numbers of local Gate 1 Travel representatives who will do their utmost to assist you in the event of an emergency. Security at Major Sites - Please expect longer wait times at major sightseeing locations due to heightened security restrictions. These locations include, but are not limited to, the San Marco Basilica in Venice, the Accademia in Florence, and the Colosseum & Vatican in Rome. Bags of any kind are no longer allowed inside the San Marco Basilica and large bags/backpacks are restricted from the Colosseum. Italy - Family and social ties are, broadly speaking, stronger in Italy than in other Western European countries, and the Roman Catholic church retains a strong cultural influence. Common courtesies should be practiced. Casual dress is appropriate, but beachwear should be confined to the beach and poolside. Conservative clothing should be worn when visiting religious buildings, meaning legs and shoulders should be covered. While the cities are very safe, pickpocketing can occur. Avoid conspicuous expensive jewelry and be mindful of your wallet or handbag. Even though many Italians smoke, smoking is prohibited in all public buildings, public transport, cinemas and restaurants. |
Slovenia - Dress should be casual, but conservative, except at formal dinners and upscale hotels or restaurants. At restaurants, bread will often be brought and charged even if not requested. Every effort will be made to honor special dietary requests selected no later than 5 days prior to departure in the passenger details section of your reservation. In addition, we recommend that you make preferences known to your tour manager upon arrival, and at each hotel/restaurant. Montenegro - While it is generally safe to eat fully cooked meats and vegetables, care should be taken to avoid undercooked meat and raw fruits and vegetables. Because tap water is not potable, visitors should only drink bottled water or water that has been boiled and filtered. Avoid ice, as it is usually made from tap water. |
Bosnia and Herzegovina - Bosnian cuisine is influenced by Turkish and Mediterranean cuisines. Traditional foods include Cevapi, Burek, Begova Corba, Klepe, Dolma, and Bosanski Lonac. Bosnian coffee is the preferred beverage. Alcoholic drinks include Rakia, local wine & beer. While it is generally safe to eat fully cooked meats and vegetables, care should be taken to avoid undercooked meat and raw fruits and vegetables. Tap water is safe to drink. Papal Audiences, Vatican City - Italy |
General audiences with His Holiness the Pope are usually held once a week (Wednesdays at 11 a.m.) in Vatican City. They may be held inside the Basilica itself or in the hall of the Papal Audiences (Aula Paolo VI, Seating 7000), and in summer in Saint Peter's Square or in the papal summer residence at Castel Gandolfo. Please note that Castel Gandolfo is located approximately 20 miles south-east of Rome, not in Vatican City. Catholics are requested to have a letter of introduction from their parish priest. For this audience women should dress modestly, with arms and head covered. Dress should be dark or subdued in color. Men are requested to wear a tie and jacket. |
New Venice Visitor Tax Regulation - It was recently announced that the city of Venice will be implementing an entrance tax of 10 Euros per person for tourists visiting the city for the day. In most cases, the tax will be included in the cost of the transportation to access the city center, including cruise, taxi, or public transportation. However, there may be instances where visitors will need to pay the tax upon arrival. We regret that we are currently unable to collect this tax in advance. Due to the uncertainty of this new regulation the information above is subject to change. |

Passports and Visas |
It is each traveler's responsibility to have a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the dates of travel and a visa if required. Please check the information at www.gate1travel.com/visas.aspx for the specific country/region you are visiting for more details. IMPORTANT: Passengers who are not U.S. citizens must check with the respective consulate or a visa agency to determine what personal identification is required. Passengers who enter, leave and then re-enter the same country on their itinerary should check if they require a double-entry visa. Passport applications are available at most U.S. Post Offices, as well as at regional Passport Agencies. Passengers requiring visas, whether obtained in advance or locally upon arrival, should ensure that their passport has blank pages.

Traveling with Friends or Family? |
If you are traveling with friends or family who are booked on another reservation, please make sure that we are aware. On occasion, we may operate more than one vehicle on your tour departure in which case we will ensure that guests will be assigned together. This is achieved by connecting your reservations before your departure. Once you arrive in your destination, it may not be possible to make assignment changes. To check that your reservations are linked, log into https://www.gate1travel.com/res with your email and password, select your reservation number, and check to see that your reservations are indicated as "Traveling With" at the top right side of the display. |
Trip Preparation |
A little pre-planning can make your trip go a lot smoother. Several weeks before your trip, make a list of what you will need to take with you. Make sure your personal documents (passports, visas, driver's license) are in order. Make sure also that you have enough prescription medications to last through the trip and carry them with you in case your luggage is delayed. Bring a change of clothes in your carry-on bag in the event that your luggage is delayed or lost. Lost luggage is common. We strongly urge you to consider carry-ons instead of checked bags when possible, and when checking a bag is necessary, choose a bag color and identification that stands out. We suggest that you make photocopies of passports, visas, personal ID and any other important travel documents and pack them separately from the originals. You may also make a digital copy of your passport to keep a clear picture with the important details in your cell phone or digital camera photos. If you lose the originals while traveling, you'll have copies for easier reporting and replacement. Pack a list of medications including dosage and generic names. You may consider bringing a small supply of over the counter medications for headaches and/or anti-diarrhea pills (especially when traveling outside of the USA and Western Europe). We recommend that you pack a portable alarm clock. Due to security reasons, many museums have restrictions on the size of bags that can be taken inside and backpacks, carry-on bags or large purses may not be permitted. It is recommended to bring a small shoulder bag or purse to use in these situations instead. Avoid placing valuables such as cameras in your checked luggage. Airplane pressure can cause similar pressure in your body, most notably in ears, as well as liquid tubes and bottles. Your physician can suggest medication for decongestion. We suggest that you place liquid containers into Ziploc bags to catch any leaks. |
Travel Safety Advice: The safety of our guests is Gate 1’s #1 concern. Before making the decision to reserve your vacation, we want you to be aware of potential situations which may impact your holiday. While most of the time our programs run precisely according to plans, on rare occasion force majeure events including weather, transportation mechanical issues, or uninhabitable accommodation, civil unrest and even criminal or terrorist activities will present themselves unexpectedly and with little or no notice. Making Telephone Calls from One Country to Another |
When dialing a number from one country to another, you should proceed as follows: dial your country's Exit Code (often indicated with a “+” sign), then the destination Country Code, then the Phone Number. As a courtesy service, complimentary airline seat assignments are requested on your behalf and, when available, are displayed in order of Passenger #1, #2 and so on. Assignments reflect the best available seats at the time of booking. Some airlines and/or fare types do not allow for pre-seating and require this be done at airport check-in only; in which case the display shows “N/A”. Seats are subject to change by your airline(s) including, for example, when there is a schedule change or equipment change after your initial booking; this may cause seat assignments to be changed or even cancelled. Some airlines offer preferred seating for an additional fee; these seats may only be purchased directly from the airline. You will need your family name and the 6-digit airline “Record Locator” which is displayed with the flight details on your reservation. In the event that you change seat assignments directly with your airline, changes will not be reflected on your invoice or documents. At the time that Gate 1 travel documents are issued, the currently assigned seats will be listed based on the assignments stored in your airline reservation at that time. Luggage & Packing |
Checked bags are typically limited to a total dimension of 62 inches by adding length + width + height (example: 26"+26"+10" = 62”), and a maximum weight of 50 lbs (23kg). Smart Bags with a USB charging port, GPS tracking device and other high-tech features are prohibited as checked or carry-on baggage unless the bag is made with removable batteries and the batteries are removed and stored separately. Many airlines charge for checked bags including flights which begin and end within the USA. The most inexpensive airfare options commonly known as Basic Economy airfares do not include any checked bags nor seat assignments before the day of departure. However, for some airlines, other airfare categories also do not include checked baggage. This will be clearly displayed in our airfare selection and on your invoice. Where available, we highly recommend selecting airfares which include at least 1 piece of checked baggage. At times, flying can be a frustrating experience, especially when things do not go exactly as planned, and airline explanations can be confusing or even misleading. Should you face a problem, remain calm and seek assistance either from the airline directly or from Gate 1. Please be aware that in most cases, on the day of your flight(s), airlines pass responsibility for your reservation to their staff at the airport and it is not always possible for Gate 1 Travel to intervene on your behalf, either through our reservations system or directly with your airline. |

Upon arrival, please complete immigration formalities if necessary and claim your luggage. If your program includes airport arrival transfers, check your voucher for specific instructions, as they vary with every destination. In most cases, you will be met after collecting your luggage or passing through Customs by the local representative who will be holding a Gate 1 Travel sign and/or a sign with your name on it. In some instances you will be instructed to walk a short distance to a transportation counter. The company's name and location will be printed on your voucher. If for any reason you do not connect with the Gate 1 transfer personnel, go to the Tourist Information Desk and ask them to page the Gate 1 Travel representative or phone the number on your voucher. If you are delayed due to lost luggage, phone the number on the voucher or have a companion exit the Customs Area to advise the transfer representative. Be wary of airport scammers who offer unwanted assistance. If you are arriving without a pre-arranged transfer, we strongly recommend going to the Tourist Information Desk to ask for a licensed taxi or transfer service. You may be asked to pay for the transfer at the desk prior to the trip, this will ensure you are not charged extra during the trip. |
What To Do When Your Flight Is Delayed |
Airlines do not share flight manifest information. Therefore, the only way we may learn of a delay or schedule change while you are traveling is from you, the traveler. The sooner you are able to contact one of our offices, the better we can respond. Please refer to the Emergency Assistance instructions on this same document. Gate 1 Travel is only able to guarantee pre-reserved arrival transfers for up to one hour from the scheduled time, no matter the cause. In case you are delayed for any reason, and are unable to follow the instructions on your voucher, please make independent transfer arrangements and retain your receipts. Unused tour services, including transfers and hotel nights are not refundable. Upon you return home you will need to contact your airline and/or insurance carrier to investigate the possibility of reimbursement for any unused tour services. |

Transfers |
Due to local traffic and other extenuating circumstances, we ask that you allow 30 minutes from your scheduled transfer time for our representative to arrive. This includes hotel, airport and cruise transfers. Such possible delays are taken into consideration in scheduling transfers and you should therefore have no concerns about arriving late for your tour, flight or cruise. For transfers from a hotel, let the hotel reception desk or concierge know that you are waiting for a transfer. In the case of a missed transfer, reimbursement for your out-of-pocket expenses will be considered provided you obtain a written statement from the hotel's front desk verifying the length of time you waited, and the time you left the hotel, and a receipt for your transportation with time and date. The cost of a transfer is more expensive than hiring a taxi, as a Gate 1 transfer necessarily includes round trip service, or 'dead-leg'. Often the places of call (airports, seaports, hotels) demand entrance and parking fees, where drivers may have to wait for up to an hour. Passengers comfortable hiring a taxi on their own and do not require assistance will save money. |
Venice Transfers - Most transfers in Venice are provided by water taxi (occasionally transfers may be provided by car). Only those hotels with a canal mooring can be reached directly. For all others, the water taxi will drop off and pick up at the nearest mooring. It will then be necessary to walk to your hotel. In some cases the hotel may be several blocks away. Some mooring areas cannot be reached during high or low tide, heavy rain, or storms. In this event, the nearest available mooring will be used. Since few of the mooring areas have porters to assist with transporting luggage, it is strongly recommended that you travel with one piece of wheeled luggage that you are comfortable handling on your own. |
Venice Airport Link Shared Water Taxi Transfers (Hotel to Airport) - The departure time & location of your transfer will be advised at least 24 hours prior to your departure. If you do not receive this information by that time, please call the Local Phone number provided on your voucher. Please be at the mooring location indicated at least 5 minutes prior to pick up time. Your pre-paid voucher is valid only for the Airport Link water taxi operated by BUCINTORO and only for the date indicated on your voucher and time communicated locally. Your pre-paid Gate 1 voucher is NOT valid for any other water taxi. Upon arrival at the airport, it will be necessary to walk approximately half a mile, with your luggage, from the dock to the terminal. |

Hotels |
Gate 1 Travel has carefully selected each hotel based on overall quality, location, price, food, service, and cleanliness. All rooms are standard twin-bedded (two single beds) rooms with private facilities. Special requests such as bed types, smoking preference and connecting rooms are subject to availability. Room selection in all cases, unless otherwise reserved, is strictly at the discretion of the hotel's management on a run-of-house basis. Triple rooms consist of standard twin beds or one double bed plus a sofa/folding bed or cot for third person except in the U.S. and Canada, where triple rooms often consist of two double/queen beds for three persons; where available, a fee may be charged by the hotel for the addition of a cot/rollaway. The number of persons accommodated does not dictate the room size. Although available at most 4 and 5 star hotels, the use of air-conditioning abroad differs greatly from the United States, and is often shut down at night and from the end until the start of the summer months. Some lodges and accommodations in remote regions may not have all of the amenities, such as hairdryer, alarm clock and room service, that you might find in a larger hotel located in a city center. |

Hotel check-in time is generally not before 4:00 p.m. and check-out time is prior to noon. If you will be arriving early in the day or departing in the evening, hotels will usually allow you to store your luggage in their luggage room. Venice City Tax - The authorities of Venice apply a city tax on all hotels. The tax requires a contribution of Euro 3.50 per person per night for a 3 star hotel, Euro 4.50 per person per night for 4 star hotels and Euro 5 per person per night for a 5 star hotel. It will be charged and collected by your hotel and is payable in cash only. We regret that we are currently unable to collect this tax in advance or include it in your price for customers who are traveling independently or who arrange independent pre- or post-tour stays on an escorted tour. This tax is included in the tour price for customers who are traveling on an escorted tour accompanied by a Tour Manager who is able to pay directly to the hotel on your behalf. About Your Sightseeing |
To ensure a pleasant and fair experience for passengers on our escorted tours, there is a mandatory seat rotation policy on our motor coaches which will be organized by your Tour Manager. On river cruises, color-coded group splits may be used for shoreside included and Optional tours. Some buses are equipped with toilet facility, however they are strictly intended for emergency use only and often require the vehicle to stop for safety reasons before use. When travel dates coincide with religious holidays and national celebrations, some monuments and sites may be closed, sometimes without prior notice. On these occasions, escorted touring itineraries may be amended to reflect these closures. Occasionally, during holidays and certain periods, and/or due to other unforeseen circumstances including weather conditions, there may be last-minute changes, sometimes after arrival, which may affect the sequence of the tour and locations visited. National monuments and tourist sites regularly undergo renovations, which can obscure the monument's view. No tour will be canceled due to renovations, however Gate 1 will decide based on the conditions whether to amend an itinerary. To respect the privacy of all tour participants, your tour manager will not organize a group photo or collect passenger email addresses for a group list. |

Most people enjoy bringing home at least one souvenir from the countries they visit. However, some find any amount of shopping to be too much while others never find enough opportunities. We have built into our Escorted itineraries a few shopping stops at recommended spots. These stops are designed to enhance your experience by providing an opportunity to see first-hand quality locally crafted merchandise which you may not be able to find on your own. Shops are checked to ensure the quality and authenticity of the products they offer, and we limit guides from visiting other locations. In some cases, we plan these stops to provide an opportunity to use clean bathrooms and to stretch your legs. All shops want your satisfaction, and therefore in case of any misunderstanding they ask that you kindly submit your claim to us within one week of the item's receipt. Claims submitted later will be subject to each store’s policies. While shopping independently, we advise you to exercise care and common sense when making any purchase. Always get a formal receipt. And remember that, just like in this country, if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is! About Tax-Free Shopping Tax-Free Shopping allows shoppers to reclaim the VAT (Value-Added Tax) or GST (Goods and Services Tax) they have paid on their purchases in some foreign countries in accordance with restrictions and procedures as dictated by each country. Refund eligibility varies by country, but may require presenting a scanned copy of your passport at the time of purchase, a minimum amount spent, or providing original store receipts. Security at Major Sites - Please expect longer wait times at major sightseeing locations due to heightened security restrictions. These locations include, but are not limited to, the San Marco Basilica in Venice, the Accademia in Florence, and the Colosseum & Vatican in Rome. Bags of any kind are no longer allowed inside the San Marco Basilica and large bags/backpacks are restricted from the Colosseum. Italy - Family and social ties are, broadly speaking, stronger in Italy than in other Western European countries, and the Roman Catholic church retains a strong cultural influence. Common courtesies should be practiced. Casual dress is appropriate, but beachwear should be confined to the beach and poolside. Conservative clothing should be worn when visiting religious buildings, meaning legs and shoulders should be covered. While the cities are very safe, pickpocketing can occur. Avoid conspicuous expensive jewelry and be mindful of your wallet or handbag. Even though many Italians smoke, smoking is prohibited in all public buildings, public transport, cinemas and restaurants. |

Montenegro - While it is generally safe to eat fully cooked meats and vegetables, care should be taken to avoid undercooked meat and raw fruits and vegetables. Because tap water is not potable, visitors should only drink bottled water or water that has been boiled and filtered. Avoid ice, as it is usually made from tap water. |
Bosnia and Herzegovina - Bosnian cuisine is influenced by Turkish and Mediterranean cuisines. Traditional foods include Cevapi, Burek, Begova Corba, Klepe, Dolma, and Bosanski Lonac. Papal Audiences, Vatican City - Italy |
General audiences with His Holiness the Pope are usually held once a week (Wednesdays at 11 a.m.) in Vatican City. They may be held inside the Basilica itself or in the hall of the Papal Audiences (Aula Paolo VI, Seating 7000), and in summer in Saint Peter's Square or in the papal summer residence at Castel Gandolfo. Please note that Castel Gandolfo is located approximately 20 miles south-east of Rome, not in Vatican City. Catholics are requested to have a letter of introduction from their parish priest. For this audience women should dress modestly, with arms and head covered. Dress should be dark or subdued in color. Men are requested to wear a tie and jacket. |
New Venice Visitor Tax Regulation - It was recently announced that the city of Venice will be implementing an entrance tax of 10 Euros per person for tourists visiting the city for the day. In most cases, the tax will be included in the cost of the transportation to access the city center, including cruise, taxi, or public transportation. However, there may be instances where visitors will need to pay the tax upon arrival. We regret that we are currently unable to collect this tax in advance. Due to the uncertainty of this new regulation the information above is subject to change. |

We recently returned from a spectacular trip to Albania, Montenegro, Croatia and Slovenia. Our tour manager, Primož, did an exceptional job of keeping us organized, safe and engaged as we learned a ton about the region's history, culture and natural beauty. The trip was put together in such a way that each day brought opportunities to visit fascinating places, see new landscapes and try special foods. The guides who met us in each city were well-informed and entertaining, and I was especially impressed with the woman who walked us through Split, Croatia. Our visit to Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia, stands out as the most memorable part of a truly unique travel experience. Thank you for the great adventure!

Excellent. Kristijian was the best tour guide ever! Knowledgeable, courteous, personable, prompt, thoughtful, considerate. He was careful to follow up the rear of the tour group when we had a local guide in a city. This ensured that no one got lost or left the group. He posted the rotation schedule for the bus every day and that worked perfectly!. He posted the daily schedule and repeated instructions multiple times so that there was no confusion. This was especially helpful with our group because we had a fairly large number of travelers for whom English was not their first language. We honestly cannot praise him enough!

Enida was kind, and supportive throughout the tour. She really did more than expected to ensure we had a lot of fun and a great time. Her commitment to showing us the region and creating an environment that everyone loved was truly a work of art. Nida has the personality to connect with everyone on their level (as we had a range of travelers on the trip, some elderly, and some of us with high energy wanting to do and see as much as we could) and she took her time to get to know us all. She has the keen ability to meet travelers where they are, adjust her style and make everyone feel welcomed and at home. I cannot forget to compliment our amazing driver Jelco (we called him Mr. Wish) who was wonderful, kind, and was always prompt, kept the bus clean, at the perfect temperature and always greeted us with a big smile! As a 13-time Gate 1 traveler, Enida was the best guide I have had. All of them were wonderful in their unique way (which is why I keep coming back and will continue to do so) but Nida and Jelco were a great team and are gems among the G1 best. I would love to travel with both of them again on another trip in the region.

The walking tour of Croatia was amazing! Our guides Ivan and Mate were fabulous, funny, fit, and friendly. I travelled with my son, one of my childhood friends and her daughter and we all loved the experience. We loved the surprise Olive Oil tasting at the beginning and all of the group meals. The hikes were challenging, but not too much so, with plenty of opportunities for breaks. Our little group of four added on two days in Split and two days in Dubrovnik which allowed us time to explore the cities, too. When we were in Korcula, we opted not to go on the hike to the Mljet park so that we could let some sore joints heal and spend a day immersing in the town. The hotels were well appointed and generally located in convenient areas. Unfortunately the Hotel Lapad is on a street that has been under construction for a while. Hopefully, the street and promenade will be completed in the next year or so. But that didn't stop us from enjoying our stay there. Each of the hotels on our trip were well appointed, had great staff, fabulous breakfast buffets, and were close to restaurants, beaches and historic sights. We also met some wonderful folks, shared contact information, and hope to travel with them again! I've told everyone that Croatia was my favorite European country thus far...the Adriatic Sea was gorgeous, the red tile roofs were classic, the history was all around us, and the people were so friendly.

Our trip was wonderful. We fell in love with Croatia and our two walking guides, Ivan and Mate. The walking and hiking were wonderful. I would prefer more trail hiking. Some of our walking was on roads, but nevertheless, lovely. I would say at least half of our group really were not hikers and by the last two days, these folks were done. Ivan was very patient and worked well with them. I cannot say enough about the great organization, care, accommodations, and patience of Ivan and Mate. Fantastic trip.

I had a wonderful time during my trip with Gate 1! Honestly, I had low expectations with organized tours due to my previous not ideal experience with a different tour company. My experience with Gate 1 is exceptional due to my excellent Tour Director Nikolina. She is a treasure to your company! She is very knowledgeable, considerate and prioritizes safety in all our activities. Our driver is also very professional and skilled. I normally prefer independent travel but because of the region I was visiting, I opted to take this organized tour and I'm delighted to find Gate 1 for this particular destination and the fact that I was traveling alone. I felt safe the whole time. The quality of the hotels we stayed in are also excellent! I would highly recommend Gate 1 and this particular destination because of Nikolina and Dali's team! I'd also like to commend the wonderful customer service experience regarding my trip. My husband was helping me arrange for this trip and when my flights were delayed, he was able to speak with someone and not a just a mere recording. We have always been able to talk to someone in customer service prior to the trip who were able to give us answers to our questions. Thank you for this wonderful experience!

I just finished the survey for the recent 12 Day Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia trip we completed and just wanted to let you know what gem of an employee you have in Mario. There needed to be a category above excellent for me to check off in the survey when evaluating him. We knew we would see may beautiful sites and scenes during our vacation. Little did we know the true treasure of the trip would be having Mario as our Tour Manager. He was wonderfully organized, a joy to be around, and the care he took for us and the other travelers on the trip was obviously done very sincerely, and his kind heart showed at all times. Thank you for your email. Our trip was splendid! This was our first trans Atlantic trip, so naturally, we had apprehensions about details and logistics. Gate1 allayed our concerns at every turn, especially when I took ill on the last day and our return trip was delayed. We greatly appreciate the assistance we received with rescheduling our flights. Our tour manager, Jelena, went well beyond our expectations. Not only was Jelena knowledgeable about the places we visited (history, culture, food, humor, etc.), but she also offered sound advice regarding eating, shopping, and safety. The little extras she provided created a delightful element of fun. Our group was large (39!) but Jelena knew everyone by name, and pointed out details she knew were pertinent to specific individuals. Jelena sets a high bar for the tour managers of our future trips!

My trip was great, despite the heat. I credit our tour manager, Nikola, who set s joyful tone that carried us through in great style. His upbeat energy and sense of humor, combined with sensitivity to the needs of individuals and of the group, made the experience seamless. Nikola possesses stellar interpersonal skills, which was evident in the fact that he was always alert to every group member's needs and went well above the call of duty to maximize everyone's happiness. Nikola is also a lot of fun, which bonded our group and had everyone enjoy the trip beyond our expectations. The 12 Day Albania, Montenegro, Croatia & Slovenia tour was great. We had a lot of fun with the numerous historical as well UNESCO protected sites. They're all eye openers for us that are now forever etched in our memories. We've also met interesting people with various background & challenges in life. We've learned that most of us in our life's stage have common goals...to go and see as many places as we can and to learn and enjoy the history, people, and culture of each one. With Nicola at the helm as our Tour Manager, his willingness to share his background knowledge in addition to his own personal experience while growing up in those places, made it all vivid & encompassing as we recreate them in our minds. His attention to details and making the group's safety as his primary concern made us all assured that we are in good hands. Again, kudos to Nicola for a job well done.

My husband and I had a very memorable trip! It was like three vacations in one. First, Croatia and Montenegro along the beautiful Adriatic Coastline. The culture, history, food, and the people made the beautiful environment even more spectacular! Then Slovenia, mountains, clear waters, and birds singing all day was such surprise to us. It allowed us a breather between all the traveling in Croatia and the excitement of Venice, where we stayed an extra two days. That was well worth it! I know Gate1Travel cannot have any control on the weather but if you did, you were exemplary! We never had 16 days of the BEST weather ever!!! 70-80 clear skies, not one cloud and no humidity! We were so lucky. Our local guides were unbelievable and the best we could imagine. Everyone enlightened us and had such a spirited personality and lived and grew up in the location we visited. In Dubrovnik our guide showed us old pictures of her family on the street we were looking at. She explained how as a child she hid in the school during bombings but played nevertheless like a child would. Our guide Jon was from Slovenia and was very organized and kept all of us on schedule and was a support to all of us. He was funny in a very different way. He explained the Slovenian way, even if everything is fantastic on a tour, a Slovenian would say, "Not bad", but to the USA vacationers it would be "Excellent!" We went on this tour to join past friends we met in Southwest Asia on a Signature Gate1Travel tour which was THE BEST TOUR EVER! This tour was great too. Thank You as always for great memories. This was our 8th tour with Gate1 and still no regrets. We are going next to Japan! Keep doing what you are doing!

I have booked many trips with Gate 1 and they have all been well-organized and enjoyable. However, I have to let you know that this trip to Ljubljana was delightful. The hotel was centrally located and convenient to everything; the excursions were professional and enjoyable, and the quick 6-day length was perfect for touring this delightful small capital. We had a wonderful trip to the Balkans! The group members were well traveled and well-behaved. On time and interesting travelers. The hotels were very good and all of the activities were well planned and perfectly implemented. Albania is an interesting country but may not have a mass appeal to tourists. As a tour operator myself, I was interested in assessing what the country has to offer in terms of tourism. Montenegro was mountainous and beautiful. We stayed at an amazing ski resort with a fantastic pool and spa. Croatia has long been a winner and we have done trips there. I liked being there in the off season when crowds were nowhere to be seen. Slovenia was enchanting. Bled is a gem and a great end point to the trip. In conclusion, the trip manager, Bine, was one of the best tour leaders I have ever known. Bine was patient, professional and incredibly knowledgeable. He seemed tireless and responded with great patience and care when group members fell ill. His knowledge of each of the Balkan countries was second to none. I will arrange a future group trip to this region mainly because of Bine. I look forward to working with him and Gate One to plan future trips. Thank you for planning such a wonderful itinerary.

I want to offer some comments about my recent trip to Albania, Montenegro, Croatia and Slovenia Tour, especially our guide, Pero. The tour was exceptional as I have indicated on the online evaluation. The trip itself was well planned and executed in a comfortable and pleasant manner. But the most impressive part of the entire experience for me was the manner in which Pero conducted himself AND the experience. He was kind and considerate to all of us, even though at the start he wasn't feeling his best. He went out of his way to make us feel secure and cared for. He is extremely knowledgeable and has a wonderful command of the English language. He shared not only his general knowledge but also his personal experiences throughout the regions we toured. He was very attentive to anyone who approached him, and I came to appreciate his gentle yet capable way of assisting people. I have been on several Gate 1 Tours around the world and have always found your guides to be competent , helpful and friendly. But I think Pero demonstrated EXCEPTIONAL knowledge and care for all of us. Please be sure to affirm him and his efforts and know if I were ever able to participate in another of his tours I would jump at the chance. He is a definite asset to your business and it was a pleasure for me to be part of his tour.

I just want to say that my trip to Croatia/Slovenia was SO far beyond my expectations - it was just amazing. Now back in the United States I am just glowing with the memories of all the things I saw and did on the tour. I cannot believe that such travel is possible for an affordable price and though I have been curious about and tempted by other travel companies, I am now a loyal and firm customer of Gate 1 and feel no need to stray elsewhere. The choice of attractions and locales was brilliant, the wonderful, clean, comfortable and at times DAZZLING accommodations were a treat and the feeling of having every need attended to and each of our personal safety prioritized made for an incredible and transporting experience - everything one would wish for a vacation. Bine was an incredible tour guide - SO kind, lovely, knowledgeable and good humored and under his guidance it all ran like a well oiled machine! It was a wonder to see him deftly maneuver to accommodate the very individual dietary needs of our group, for instance. I want to seek opportunities to travel with him again - he is now my favorite tour guide! I must stop gushing or I'll go on all day - suffice it to say, the trip was INCREDIBLE!!!!!

I have now been on multiple Gate1 trips and have more future trips already booked. That said, I am more than impressed and pleased with every aspect of the experience from initial planning and booking with my great Gate1 agent to all the amazing people and places Gate1 chooses to make it the best value in travel. While I must admit to being impressed by all the other Tour Leaders I have had the pleasure of meeting on past Gate1 trips, and thought they did a great job, Nikola was a cut above on every level. I can't begin to explain how he went above and beyond in every aspect to make our journey one of the most memorable ever. You need to clone Nikola, and have him teach others on how to run a tour. While being knowledgeable and efficient, he brought a genuine warmth and obvious love of people and wanting to make them happy that is hard to replicate. Either you have that gene or you don't...he has it. Please make sure Nikola gets special kudos for a job extremely well done!!!!

Our first experience with Gate 1 was amazing and far exceeded our expectations. From Stacy who helped book our Croatia trip, to Elaina who arranged for our water taxi to the Venice airport. The places we visited were magical but our tour manager, Duan, is what made our trip so special. He was passionate, engaging, energetic, warm, caring, entertaining, knowledgeable and hilarious. On the plane home we were already looking at trips to take next year - it's less expensive for us to travel from Virginia to Europe for a week than it would be to go to California! I want you to know that our trip was wonderful and the reason it was wonderful was because of our tour manager whose name was Pero. Not who you said in this evaluation. He made the tour wonderful. He was on top of everything and always considerate of us. Please give him the credit that is due because the 11 of us had a fantastic, cohesive, tour because of him. he made this is the best of the five tours we have taken with Gate 1 so far. Our trip was excellent! We loved the places we visited and enjoyed every minute of it, our tour manager Kristijan was excellent and made all he could to facilitate our stay. Our driver Ygor was also very proper and an excellent driver. There is so much to see there it really was an eye opener for us in many ways! Food selection was very good too. It was worth the money we paid! Thanks for making all the arrangements for us. Looking forward to our next trip on Oct 28 with Gate 1 again next month to Bali & Singapore, that one does not have a tour manager but for sure Gate 1 has made arrangements with a reliable tour operator . Our Croatia tour with Gate One was highly satisfactory both in terms of site selection, itinerary and tour staff. Danjam proved to be a very knowledgeable guide and manager, with a broad and detailed grasp of history and context related to the site visits. His organization and direction were excellent in every sense, and he managed to communicate and relate well with a diverse group of tourers. Damjan exhibited the ideal balance of friendliness and necessary assertiveness that everyone recognized and appreciated. He worked and coordinated well with the local tour guides. We all enjoyed and appreciated the competence and performance the the coach driver, and he never failed to extend good humor and kindness to all. My wife Cherry and I have been on many Gate One tours over some 30 years and, although the tour guides have been uniformly very good, I would have to rate Damjan in the very upper tier of guide/managers that we have experienced to this date, a five star performer.

My Balkan tour was amazing. The entire trip was an eye-owner to me as I leaned the history, culture and traditions of the different nations and religions which comprise the former Yugoslavia. The itinerary was just right. The price was fitting to the company's motto " more for less price". The hotels overall were satisfactory for their price. However, Valamar President in Dubrovnik exceeded everyone's expectations. Our tour manager Tena made the trip very exciting with her unsurpassed knowledge of history, geopolitical perspectives, regional wine and food and even current pop culture. I mentioned to her that she has made me now a regular Gate 1 customer, having just booked for another tour in April. Milan, our driver made our bus tour smooth. I kept wondering how he could get the big bus through those tight alleys and corners. Thanks Gate 1 for an unforgettable journey . I would highly recommend this tour to my friends.

I just wanted to take a moment and thank you for an excellent vacation experience. Our guide, Nikola, was by far the best guide we have ever had with your company. That being said, all of our guides have met our expectations and were very good, but Nikola went above and beyond the call of duty addressing the many issues that our group encountered. For us specifically, I know without question that my wife and I would not have gotten our luggage from the airport without his assistance. Secondly, he took the time to get a small cake and bottle of wine for my wife on her birthday, which was very much appreciated. In addition to us, I know he took care of the entire group and everyone was not only impressed with his professionalism and level of commitment but the fact that he always had a smile on his face and never complained. Thanks again for a great trip and memories that will last a lifetime.

Our travel manager and coach driver were excellent! Edo could not have been more knowledgeable, patient, kind, funny and enjoyable to be around. We always felt safe on the roads with our driver and the bus was very comfortable and clean. We are looking forward to our next opportunity to travel with Gate One.

Just a quick note to leave some additional feedback for our Tour Manager Nida. It would be a disservice to not acknowledge the exceptional expertise and value-add that she provided on this trip. She was fun, energetic, enthusiastic, knowledgeable among many other attributes. To possess the charisma and personality to bring such camaraderie and cohesiveness to our group was absolutely impressive. Having her as our guide was one of the highlights of the trip itself. Nida is an absolute asset to Gate1.

Trip was outstanding. Marina had so much great information, as did all of the local guides on this trip. They really made the trip worthwhile. They were all very well versed in their local history and knowledge of the area and subjects related, and all spoke English very well and were easy to understand. Marina made the long bus rides enjoyable, entertaining, and very interesting with her great personality and deep knowledge of the history and area. The local guide in Ljubljana, I can't remember his name, but he was also entertaining and extremely knowledgeable about the area and history. The guides mentioned and tour managers like Marina make these trips worth the cost and a memorable experience.

Our trip was absolutely terrific. It was a well planned trip that was executed flawlessly by our tour director Gabrijela and our driver Matija. We loved every minute of it in Croatia, Slovenia & Montenegro learning about the history and seeing the fabulous sights. When we got back to Venice our other tour director, Antonio , was also very welcoming. The care he took to make sure that our party got to the correct gate at the airport was especially appreciated. We are already planning our next Gate 1 trip with one of the friends that we made on our most recent trip. Thank you for the wonderful service you provide in showing us the world and reminding us that we are all connected on this planet.

Out trip was amazing! Greatly due to Duane and Dado. Dado made me feel so relaxed with his driving, always attentive in regards to safety and making each of us comfortable. Duane, where do I start...he made our trip. His upbeat enthusiasm kept everyone in the group enthralled. We would LOVE to have him guiding every tour that we will be talking with Gate 1 in the future. Whoever we get in the future will have some BIG shoes to fill. We took the 13 Day Affordable Croatia & Slovenia with Venice and we had a great time. Our tour manager in Croatia & Slovenia, Primoz , was outstanding and fun! Our tour manager in Venice, Arianna , was excellent. She showed her city with pride and love. We walked the tiny streets with her and she pointed out interesting things in detail. She saw to it that we checked in the airport on our trip back. And most of all, she accompanied us to get our VAT refunds. Great job Arianna!! Gate 1 delivered our best expectations again!!

I will be very happy to share with you and other travelers our experience on our Gate One Tour to Croatia, Slovenia and Venice. We have been traveling extensively for over 30 years and have had some great experiences both on our own and with Gate One. BUT THIS TOUR WAS THE BEST and here is why; Ana, your Tour Manager is well organized, has a delightful personality that everyone on the Tour loved, played a significant role with bringing all 20 of us together into what felt like a family and helped keep everyone organized and on schedule and Ana knew the area that we travelled and encouraged and enjoyed questions as well as input. Gate One is very lucky to have Ana on your team and we were very fortunate to be part of her Tour Group.

The trip was excellent. We enjoyed every place we visited. Our guide, Edo, was the best we have ever had. He made sure we saw the most important sites, took care of all our needs, explained things quite well and answered everyone's questions completely. He really worked hard to make sure we understood the local history and traditions and made us fell like a family. The travel arrangements and hotels were fine, and our driver, Deno, was exceptional. Everyone we spoke with prior to the trip was courteous and quite helpful. We really appreciate Gate 1's ability to design and organize a great trip. Thank you.

Our trip was EXCELLENT! We can not say enough about our guide Marina. She is very professional, extremely knowledgeable about Croatia and Slovenia, very passionate that we understand the history and culture of her country. She was very proud to teach us as much as she could about her homeland. Marina kept us on schedule daily, it was obvious she had an excellent report with our bus driver and every hotel and special optional tour operator.
