Is This Trip Right for You?

This moderately active, adventurous program is intended to offer an introduction to Iceland and give you the opportunity to search for and perhaps view the Northern Lights. Different from any other program, because of the extreme climate and unpredictable weather conditions, you should be prepared for itinerary and flight schedule changes. This independent program includes no tour manager. The included Northern Lights tour, which runs between 2-5 hours, departs between 9-10 PM and often extends late into the evening as exact schedules depend on local weather conditions. Sightings cannot be guaranteed. When known in advance, typically by 5 PM, that the Lights will not be visible on a given evening, a tour will be rescheduled for an alternate evening when feasible. Tour guides will vary on each excursion. If the Northern Lights are not visible during your included tour, we will attempt to offer another tour the following evening if conditions permit. You can expect to walk over rough, uneven terrain in dark conditions, and therefore proper winter clothing and footwear (Crampons or ice cleats to avoid slipping) as well as a flashlight are essential for your safety and comfort. Do not expect bathroom facilities at the sites. We suggest to carry tissues and hand sanitizer.

Meals may be expensive as most of Iceland's food is imported. Affordable optional sightseeing excursions are available to enhance your holiday. Most flights arrive to Iceland between 4-7 AM, however hotel check-in begins at 2 PM. Only the pre-purchase of a hotel night will guarantee early check-in. For important information about selecting flights to Iceland, click here.

Please note that walking tours are conducted on often uneven, icy terrain.

DAY 2 - Arrive in Iceland, Northern Lights Evening Tour
Welcome to Iceland, transfer independently to your hotel in Reykjavik. Most flights arrive in the early morning and your room may not be ready for you. In this case, leave your luggage with the concierge. Spend the balance of the day at leisure to explore Reykjavik, the world's most northerly capital. Or perhaps take an optional city tour of Reykjavik* during which you'll visit landmarks such as the Pearl for unrivaled views over Reykjavik and the Northern Lights Center. View Höfði House where Reagan and Gorbachev met to end the Cold War, as well as Hallgrimskirkja church, an iconic Reykjavik landmark. End your tour at Harpa Concert & Conference Hall where you can choose to stay in downtown Reykjavik on your own, or return to your hotel. Later tonight, search the skies for the Northern Lights, (Aurora Borealis) among the most spectacular phenomena on earth. The Northern Lights originate from the sun, where large explosions and electronic storms throw charged solar particles deep into space. This solar wind is caught by the Earth's magnetic field on the south and north poles. The solar particles collide with atmospheric gases and create this wonderful light effect. This evening, hope to see these lights swirling and dancing across the sky, endlessly changing color, shape and size**
