| Know Before You Go | |
Although most of the planning and preparation is taken care of for you, there are still a few things you should know and some details you should take care of to ensure your comfort, safety and peace of mind. Please review the following information before your departure to ensure that any surprises along the way will only be pleasant ones.
Getting Ready to Go
ID Requirements for Domestic U.S. Flights
It is each traveler's responsibility to have valid photo identification for airline and security check-in. REAL ID-compliant license (or other TSA-approved form of ID) is required board a domestic flight. Please visit https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/identification for more details.
Staying Healthy While Traveling
| Please consult with your healthcare provider for up-to-date requirements. You may also check the Centers for Disease Control (www.cdc.gov) and/or the World Health Organization (http://www.who.int/en/) for their recommendations. Any required inoculations must be documented by clients' healthcare provider on a valid vaccination certificate, which must be carried as proof where necessary. Individuals with heart disease, chronic illness, physical handicap, advanced pregnancy, or mental illness should not participate in these rigorous travel programs. While traveling, illnesses can sometimes be unavoidable. If a traveler arrives feeling ill or becomes sick during the tour, they will be separated from the group and directed to either a local or virtual medical facility for diagnosis. This precaution is necessary to ensure the well-being of all travelers. The traveler may only rejoin the group after receiving written clearance from an accredited medical facility confirming they are fit to continue. All costs associated with medical treatment and related expenses such as additional hotel nights or transportation not included in the original itinerary will be the responsibility of the passenger. Travel protection plans will only consider coverage with service receipts provided by legally qualified health care facilities, and in accordance with policy terms. There are several easy steps you can take to stay healthy while traveling which may help prevent contracting an illness while away from home.

| Notice on Aircraft Cabin Insecticide Treatment - Please note that some countries may require aircraft cabin insecticide treatment for in-bound foreign flights. A list of such countries is available at:
http://www.dot.gov/office-policy/aviation-policy/aircraft-disinsection-requirements. |
Trip Preparation
A little pre-planning can make your trip go a lot smoother. Several weeks before your trip, make a list of what you will need to take with you. Make sure your personal documents (passports, visas, driver's license) are in order. Make sure also that you have enough prescription medications to last through the trip and carry them with you in case your luggage is delayed. Bring a change of clothes in your carry-on bag in the event that your luggage is delayed or lost. Lost luggage is common. We strongly urge you to consider carry-ons instead of checked bags when possible, and when checking a bag is necessary, choose a bag color and identification that stands out. We suggest that you make photocopies of passports, visas, personal ID and any other important travel documents and pack them separately from the originals. You may also make a digital copy of your passport to keep a clear picture with the important details in your cell phone or digital camera photos. If you lose the originals while traveling, you'll have copies for easier reporting and replacement. Pack a list of medications including dosage and generic names. You may consider bringing a small supply of over the counter medications for headaches and/or anti-diarrhea pills (especially when traveling outside of the US, Canada and Western Europe). We recommend that you pack a portable alarm clock. Due to security reasons, many museums have restrictions on the size of bags that can be taken inside and backpacks, carry-on bags or large purses may not be permitted. It is recommended to bring a small shoulder bag or purse to use in these situations instead. Avoid placing valuables such as cameras in your checked luggage. Airplane pressure can cause similar pressure in your body, most notably in ears, as well as liquid tubes and bottles. Your physician can suggest medication for decongestion. We suggest that you place liquid containers into Ziploc bags to catch any leaks.
Travel Safety Advice: The safety of our guests is Gate 1's #1 concern. Before making the decision to reserve your vacation, we want you to be aware of potential situations which may impact your holiday. While most of the time our programs run precisely according to plans, on rare occasion force majeure events including weather, transportation mechanical issues, or uninhabitable accommodation, civil unrest and even criminal or terrorist activities will present themselves unexpectedly and with little or no notice. Gate 1 will make the decision to cancel a tour only after receiving verifiable government issued information. We are otherwise obliged to comply with contractual airline and vendor agreements and carry out the tour until or unless we are advised otherwise. In the event of such an occurrence anytime after your date of departure, Gate 1 and the local destination ground staff, in coordination with government advisories, airlines, hotels, cruise ships and other vendors, will make decisions with regard to your safety first. We strongly recommend that tour participants review the destination country's specific information at https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/alertswarnings.html.
Travel Protection
Even the best-planned trips can be impacted by the unexpected. And that is why we recommend that you help protect yourself and your investment by purchasing Travel Protection for your Gate 1 trip. Travel Protection can help with medical coverage for illness or injury, trip cancellation and/or interruption, baggage loss, medical evacuation, and more. At any time before you complete Final Payment, you may choose to purchase Travel Protection. The protection plan premium is non-refundable after a 10-day review period. In addition, you must be medically able to travel at the time the premium is paid. For a summary of the plan details on coverages, benefits, limitations and exclusions, please refer to the Description of Coverage by visiting www.gate1travel.com/insurance/. Cancel for Any Reason Waiver Benefit (CFAR) is a non-insurance feature that allows you to cancel up to 72 hours before your scheduled departure for any reason not otherwise covered in the Travel Protection Plan. CFAR must be purchased at the same time as the Travel Protection Plan as well as within 21 days of the original booking date. Independent or escorted tour reservations will be eligible for a future travel credit equal to the full cost of your trip, less the cost of initial deposit, airline-assessed fees, amendment fees, and insurance premium. Sea or river cruise reservations will be eligible for a future travel credit equal to 50% of the cost of your trip, less the cost of initial trip deposit, airline-assessed fees, amendment fees, and insurance premium. All CFAR credits are valid for a period of two years from the original date of travel. CFAR Credits have no cash value and are not transferrable. Airline-assessed fees are generally $300 per person, but may be as much as fully non-refundable. Some non-refundable airline tickets may retain value, less airline-assessed fees. Your future air credit must be used to book with the same airline. Deadlines to rebook and complete travel vary by airline and may be as early as 12 months from when the tickets were originally issued (not the date of travel). For details, www.gate1travel.com/insurance/. This program does not apply to custom groups and Antarctica cruises. Residents of New York may purchase this Cancel for Any Reason Waiver Benefit separate from Travel Protection. Call to speak with a reservation agent for details. This Cancel for any Reason Wavier Benefit is not insurance and is provided by Gate 1 Travel.
Traveling with Friends or Family?
If you are traveling with friends or family who are booked on another reservation, please make sure that we are aware. On occasion, we may operate more than one vehicle on your tour departure in which case we will ensure that guests will be assigned together. This is achieved by connecting your reservations before your departure. Once you arrive in your destination, it may not be possible to make assignment changes. To check that your reservations are linked, log into https://www.gate1travel.com/reservations with your email and password, select your reservation number, and check to see that your reservations are indicated as "Traveling With" at the top right side of the display.
Mobile Phones
Mobile networks differ from country to country. We recommend you check with your provider to see if your wireless plan will work in the destination(s) you are visiting. To avoid possible roaming charges, you may want to consider purchasing an international plan. With most major phone companies, for a modest fee, you will be able to use your domestic plan's talk, text, and data allowances just like you do at home. If you can access the internet while you travel, you can also take advantage of services such as WhatsApp.
WiFi Access
WiFi is available in most airports, hotels, and cruise lines, as well as on some flights, trains, and buses. There may be a fee for access and service quality and speed may vary greatly especially while on moving vehicles. Availability on cruises is also dependent upon its location while sailing through multiple countries. Please note that WiFi can be extremely slow, unreliable, and sometimes nonexistent in developing countries.
Canada - Please be aware there will be no wifi available on the motor coach while in Canada.
Consideration for Tour Participants (Escorted Tours)
For the benefit of all tour participants, we ask tour members to be considerate of their fellow travelers in the following ways:
|
Climate & Clothing
| United States - The weather in the United States varies according to geographical area. The hottest period is from June to August and the coolest from November to February. Bring comfortable walking shoes, clothes you can layer, and an all-weather jacket. Sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses are also recommended. You may encounter mosquitoes during warm and hot weather. Travelers are encouraged to bring insect repellent and consider wearing clothing that adequately covers arms and legs. For winter programs, come prepared for cold temperatures, icy trails, and short daylight hours. The National Park Service recommends bringing over-the-shoe-traction devices, extra snacks and layered clothing that can easily be added or removed to adapt to a variety of weather conditions USA Average Temperatures: Fahrenheit | Celsius |
| Canada - The weather in Canada varies according to geographical area. The hottest period is from July to August and the coolest from November to March. Expect rainy weather throughout the months of November and December. Bring comfortable walking shoes, clothes you can layer, and an all-weather jacket. Sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses are also recommended. Canada Average Temperatures: Fahrenheit | Celsius Newfoundland - Summer weather in Newfoundland is cool, coastal, and highly changeable. Daytime temperatures generally range from 50-70°F, with cooler mornings and evenings. Coastal wind can make it feel significantly colder than the forecast, and fog or light rain showers are common, particularly near the water and in areas such as Gros Morne National Park. Passengers should pack comfortable walking or sturdy shoes with good traction, layered clothing, a light sweater or fleece, and a lightweight waterproof or windproof jacket. A hat and light scarf are recommended for wind protection, and sunglasses are useful due to glare off the ocean, even on overcast days. Shorts are optional, as warm weather is not guaranteed. Insect repellent is recommended, particularly in wooded or inland areas during June and early July. Binoculars are useful for wildlife viewing, including seabirds, whales, and (early in the season) icebergs. Lightweight walking sticks may be helpful on uneven coastal trails and gravel paths. Evening attire throughout Newfoundland is casual and relaxed. There is no need for formal wear. Closed-toe shoes are recommended for most evenings due to cool temperatures and uneven walking surfaces. During boat excursions, including cruise and ferry, an additional warm layer and wind-resistant outerwear are strongly advised, as temperatures are noticeably colder on the water. If you are prone to motion sickness, nausea-relief medication is recommended, as ocean conditions can vary. All passengers traveling to Newfoundland should carry a small, lightweight day bag at all times due to long travel distances between communities and limited access to services in remote areas. The day bag should include prescription medications (in original containers), glasses or contact lenses, and any personal medical necessities. A portable battery pack and charging cable are strongly recommended, as cell service may be limited in remote regions and travel days can be long. Shelf-stable snacks such as protein bars, nuts, or crackers are useful, as meal stops may be spaced apart. Passengers should also carry tissues, hand sanitizer, sunscreen, lip balm, and any personal comfort items needed during coach travel. Weather-related items should include a compact rain jacket, a light insulating layer, and a hat, as weather conditions can shift quickly and without notice. |
About Drones
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) or "drone" technology has quickly become affordable and is increasingly popular with recreational users. While some countries have clear, established drone laws, others do not, or existing regulations are undergoing review and change. Travelers who wish to bring a drone on their trip are responsible to research and abide by the laws and regulations of the countries they are visiting, as well as to check with their airline(s) regarding their rules for transporting drones. Please note that tours are unable to extend the length of scheduled visits and stops to accommodate use of drones.
Preparing for Your Trip
Seat Assignments
As a courtesy service, complimentary airline seat assignments are requested on your behalf and, when available, are displayed in order of Passenger #1, #2 and so on. Assignments reflect the best available seats at the time of booking. Some airlines and/or fare types do not allow for pre-seating and require this be done at airport check-in only; in which case the display shows "N/A". Seats are subject to change by your airline(s) including, for example, when there is a schedule change or equipment change after your initial booking; this may cause seat assignments to be changed or even cancelled. Some airlines offer preferred seating for an additional fee; these seats may only be purchased directly from the airline. You will need your family name and the 6-digit airline "Record Locator" which is displayed with the flight details on your reservation. In the event that you change seat assignments directly with your airline, changes will not be reflected on your invoice or documents. At the time that Gate 1 travel documents are issued, the currently assigned seats will be listed based on the assignments stored in your airline reservation at that time. Should you have questions regarding your assignments, please write to us at www.gate1travel.com/contactus.
Luggage & Packing
Checked bags are typically limited to a total dimension of 62 inches by adding length + width + height (example: 26"+26"+10" = 62"), and a maximum weight of 50 lbs (23kg). Smart Bags with a USB charging port, GPS tracking device and other high-tech features are prohibited as checked or carry-on baggage unless the bag is made with removable batteries and the batteries are removed and stored separately. Many airlines charge for checked bags including flights which begin and end within the USA. The most inexpensive airfare options commonly known as Basic Economy airfares do not include any checked bags nor seat assignments before the day of departure. However, for some airlines, other airfare categories also do not include checked baggage. This will be clearly displayed in our airfare selection and on your invoice. Where available, we highly recommend selecting airfares which include at least 1 piece of checked baggage. Gate 1 Travel is not responsible for checked bag fees, excess luggage or weight charges levied by an airline. Checked baggage allowances displayed on reservation details and invoices reflect the applicable allowance at the time of booking but are subject to change by your airline(s). For your airline's requirements and fees, visit www.gate1travel.com/baggagefees.aspx. For important baggage information, visit www.gate1travel.com/luggage.aspx. Avoid placing valuables in your checked luggage. Federal law forbids the carriage of hazardous materials aboard the aircraft in your luggage, your carry-on or on your person. A violation can result in five years' imprisonment and penalties of $250,000 or more (49 U.S.C. 5124). Hazardous materials include explosives, compressed gases, flammable liquids and solids, oxidizers, poisons, corrosives and radioactive materials. Examples: Paints, lighter fluid, fireworks, tear gases, oxygen bottles, and radio-pharmaceuticals. There are special exceptions for small quantities (up to 70 ounces total) of medicinal and toilet articles carried in your luggage and certain smoking materials carried on your person. Check the Transportation and Safety Administration (TSA) website www.tsa.gov to find out the current list of acceptable items you may bring on a plane before packing. We recommend that you use brightly colored luggage tags, straps or other identifiers to help you locate your luggage upon arrival or to describe it in the event that it is lost.
Intra-Flights
All intra-flights included in your package are booked in Economy Class. Checked bags are typically limited to a total dimension of 62 inches (157 cm) by adding length + width + height (example: 26"+26"+10" = 62" / 66cm+66cm+25cm = 157cm), and a maximum weight of 50 lbs (23 kg). Exceptions are listed below and may differ from international flight luggage limits. More detailed baggage restrictions for your airline can be found at www.gate1travel.com/baggagefees.aspx.
Day of Departure
Flight Services
What to do if You Need Assistance
Whether you purchased your airfare from Gate 1 Travel or from the airline directly, please bear in mind that Gate 1 Travel does not own nor operate the airline(s), nor the airport facilities where they operate. At times, flying can be a frustrating experience, especially when things do not go exactly as planned, and airline explanations can be confusing or even misleading. Should you face a problem, remain calm and seek assistance either from the airline directly or from Gate 1. Please be aware that in most cases, on the day of your flight(s), airlines pass responsibility for your reservation to their staff at the airport and it is not always possible for Gate 1 Travel to intervene on your behalf, either through our reservations system or directly with your airline. |
Arrival & Departure
Arrival Procedures
Upon arrival, please complete immigration formalities if necessary and claim your luggage. If your program includes airport arrival transfers, check your voucher for specific instructions, as they vary with every destination. In most cases, you will be met after collecting your luggage or passing through Customs by the local representative who will be holding a Gate 1 Travel sign and/or a sign with your name on it. In some instances you will be instructed to walk a short distance to a transportation counter. The company's name and location will be printed on your voucher. If for any reason you do not connect with the Gate 1 transfer personnel, go to the Tourist Information Desk and ask them to page the Gate 1 Travel representative or phone the number on your voucher. If you are delayed due to lost luggage, phone the number on the voucher or have a companion exit the Customs Area to advise the transfer representative. Be wary of airport scammers who offer unwanted assistance. If you are arriving without a pre-arranged transfer, we strongly recommend going to the Tourist Information Desk to ask for a licensed taxi or transfer service. You may be asked to pay for the transfer at the desk prior to the trip, this will ensure you are not charged extra during the trip.
What To Do When Your Flight Is Delayed
Airlines do not share flight manifest information. Therefore, the only way we may learn of a delay or schedule change while you are traveling is from you, the traveler. The sooner you are able to contact one of our offices, the better we can respond. Please refer to the Emergency Assistance instructions on this same document. Gate 1 Travel is only able to guarantee pre-reserved arrival transfers for up to one hour from the scheduled time, no matter the cause. In case you are delayed for any reason, and are unable to follow the instructions on your voucher, please make independent transfer arrangements and retain your receipts. Unused tour services, including transfers and hotel nights are not refundable. Upon you return home you will need to contact your airline and/or insurance carrier to investigate the possibility of reimbursement for any unused tour services.
Departure Procedures
If your program includes departure transfers, instructions will be stated on your voucher or provided locally.
Transfers
Due to local traffic and other extenuating circumstances, we ask that you allow 30 minutes from your scheduled transfer time for our representative to arrive. This includes hotel, airport and cruise transfers. Such possible delays are taken into consideration in scheduling transfers and you should therefore have no concerns about arriving late for your tour, flight or cruise. For transfers from a hotel, let the hotel reception desk or concierge know that you are waiting for a transfer. In the case of a missed transfer, reimbursement for your out-of-pocket expenses will be considered provided you obtain a written statement from the hotel's front desk verifying the length of time you waited, and the time you left the hotel, and a receipt for your transportation with time and date. The cost of a transfer is more expensive than hiring a taxi, as a Gate 1 transfer necessarily includes round trip service, or 'dead-leg'. Often the places of call (airports, seaports, hotels) demand entrance and parking fees, where drivers may have to wait for up to an hour. Passengers comfortable hiring a taxi on their own and do not require assistance will save money.
USA Airport Transfers - Unless otherwise noted in your itinerary, USA programs do not offer airport transfers. There are various options you may book to suit any budget and service level. Here are a few options that may be available as well as more info about the cities you will visit. Hotel Shuttles - Some hotels offer complimentary or fee based shuttle service from the airport to the hotel. Many times these require long wait times and shared service with other clients of the hotel. If shuttle service is available, passengers should contact the hotel directly at least 24 hours prior to arrival to confirm availability, operating hours, pickup instructions, and any applicable fees. Taxi - Taxis are readily available at the exits of airports for reasonable rates. Little or no service with bags can be expected from the drivers Ride Share Services - Using these apps makes for an easy and affordable option to transfer to the hotel. Little or no service with bags can be expected from the drivers Shared Shuttles - Local companies may offer shared shuttle transfer services for affordable rates. This offers convenience of pre-booking transfer service however many times these require long wait times and mediocre service. Private Car Transfers - while expensive, provides excellent door-to-door service and hassle free experience.
Chicago * Distance from Hotel to Airport: 18 miles * Approx. Taxi Cost: $55 * Approx. Ride Share Cost: $31-47 * Approx. Airport Shuttles Cost: $50 * Approx. Private Car Cost: $150
About Your Accommodations
Hotels
Gate 1 Travel has carefully selected each hotel based on overall quality, location, price, service, and cleanliness. All rooms are standard twin-bedded (two single beds) rooms with private facilities. Special requests such as bed types, smoking preference and connecting rooms are subject to availability. Room selection in all cases, unless otherwise reserved, is strictly at the discretion of the hotel's management on a run-of-house basis. Triple rooms consist of standard twin beds or one double bed plus a sofa/folding bed or cot for third person except in the U.S. and Canada, where triple rooms often consist of two double/queen beds for three persons; where available, a fee may be charged by the hotel for the addition of a cot/rollaway. The number of persons accommodated does not dictate the room size. While air conditioning is available in most hotels, we recommend checking the room amenities listed under the "Featured Hotels" tab of your package to confirm. Please note that many international hotels were built before central air conditioning was introduced. In those that do offer air conditioning, usage may be restricted, often due to government regulations aimed at promoting energy conservation. It's typical for air conditioning to be used only during the summer months, to follow a set schedule (sometimes turned off at night), and to operate at lower settings than what many North Americans are accustomed to. Some lodges and accommodations in remote regions may not have all of the amenities, such as hairdryer, alarm clock and room service, that you might find in a larger hotel located in a city center.
Hotel Check-in/ Check-out
Hotel check-in time is generally not before 4:00 p.m. and check-out time is prior to noon. If you will be arriving early in the day or departing in the evening, hotels will usually allow you to store your luggage in their luggage room. Ask at the front desk if the hotel can check you in earlier, or let you stay later.
At Your Destination
Staggered Arrival & Departure
Many tours are offered with multiple duration options, allowing travelers to choose one or more destinations in a single trip. As a result, the number of participants on your tour may vary, as we accommodate travelers arriving and departing at different points in the itinerary.
About Your Sightseeing
To ensure a pleasant and fair experience for passengers on our escorted tours, there is a mandatory seat rotation policy on our motor coaches which will be organized by your Tour Manager. Some buses are equipped with toilet facility, however they are strictly intended for emergency use only and often require the vehicle to stop for safety reasons before use. When travel dates coincide with religious holidays and national celebrations, some monuments and sites may be closed, sometimes without prior notice. On these occasions, escorted touring itineraries may be amended to reflect these closures. Occasionally, during holidays and certain periods, and/or due to other unforeseen circumstances including weather conditions, there may be last-minute changes, sometimes after arrival, which may affect the sequence of the tour and locations visited. National monuments and tourist sites regularly undergo renovations, which can obscure the monument's view. No tour will be canceled due to renovations, however Gate 1 will decide based on the conditions whether to amend an itinerary. To respect the privacy of all tour participants, your tour manager will not organize a group photo or collect passenger email addresses for a group list.
Land Only Passengers (Escorted Tours)
Your tour manager will contact you after your arrival at your hotel. Passengers who have not purchased arrival transfers from Gate 1 Travel should proceed directly to the hotel for check-in. The details of the hotel can be found in your documents.
Purchasing Tours Locally
On escorted tours, the guides will generally sell optional tours to passengers who have not pre-purchased them. Payment can be made by cash or credit card, unless otherwise noted below. This does not apply to Independent packages. Please see Gate 1 Terms & Conditions for more information. https://www.gate1travel.com/terms.aspx#optional
Independent Activities - Gate 1 itineraries may contain suggestions for activities for your leisure time; these suggestions do not constitute a recommendation nor an endorsement of any specific service provider and the decision to participate in any such activities should be made independently and with due consideration. Gate 1 is not responsible for any activities not expressly included in its programs. Caution should be exercised when selecting certain activities that may require physical strength, coordination or exertion. Particular care should be taken when considering animal rides, such as on camels, mules or horses
Cruise itinerary - There is a potential for a small number of sailings to be impacted by weather conditions, or other factors which may impact safe navigation.
Canada - The Canadian dollar is the currency.
Shopping
Most people enjoy bringing home at least one souvenir from the countries they visit. However, some find any amount of shopping to be too much while others never find enough opportunities. We have built into our Escorted itineraries a few shopping stops at recommended spots. These stops are designed to enhance your experience by providing an opportunity to see first-hand quality locally crafted merchandise which you may not be able to find on your own. Shops are checked to ensure the quality and authenticity of the products they offer, and we limit guides from visiting other locations. In some cases, we plan these stops to provide an opportunity to use clean bathrooms and to stretch your legs. All shops want your satisfaction, and therefore in case of any misunderstanding they ask that you kindly submit your claim to us within one week of the item's receipt. Claims submitted later will be subject to each store's policies. While shopping independently, we advise you to exercise care and common sense when making any purchase. Always get a formal receipt. And remember that, just like in this country, if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is!
Your Safety is Very Important
|
Prior to your trip, if you are traveling overseas, we strongly recommend that you visit the website of the U.S. Department of State at www.travel.state.gov, specifically the section which addresses International Travel. You should read the tips for foreign travel and travel warnings for the country or countries that you plan to visit. It is also important that you do not allow your common sense to take a vacation while on your trip. Here are several tips which, if followed, will save much potential hardship:

This was our first experience with Gate 1 Travel and it will hopefully not be our last. It was wonderful and all 6 of us would like to travel again with Gate 1. We have already recommended Gate 1 to friends and family. Our guide Chantal was excellent and very knowledgeable, along with our bus driver Heather who was fantastic. Looking forward to booking a trip for next year!
Peggy A.
Perfect, perfect! Aaron, the Gate 1 tour manager, and Liz, the bus driver, did an excellent job of showing us so many beautiful places along the Canadian Rocky Mountains. I loved the trip so much that if asked to stay on the coach to do the tour all over again, I would have jumped at the opportunity. Hats off to Gate 1, Aaron, and Liz for a fabulous trip!
Cheryl V.
What an amazing trip with Gate1, our Travel Manager Nancy was the best of the best! Extremely knowledgeable about every area we visited, she always had a wonderful story to share. Nancy is so friendly, helpful, caring truly a very genuine person. She takes her job very seriously, wonderful planner, able to address any issues anyone had with a smile. Goes out of her way to answer questions if she doesn't know the answer she'll get back to us. Nancy engaged the entire group we were her wolf pack :) by doing this we've met new friends. Every morning we were greeted with a smile, along with a good night smile. She handed our itinerary out every evening with wonderful ideas of what to do in the area. Truly would love to take another Gate1 trip with Nancy! Our driver Genius, was wonderful, with the best smile and personality to match. Always smiling, helpful, caring & always had a bottle of water every morning in our seat:). Totally felt very safe with his driving, he's an amazing driver! Nancy & Genius, are a fabulous team for Gate1! Hope to be traveling with them on an other adventure.
Paula W.
I just wanted to let you know that I was thoroughly impressed with Francis out tour leader. He is a pure gem of a person. Being able to be both informative and entertaining at the same time. You could just feel the passion he has for the places he's showing us and in turn we fall in love with those places. Both he and John our bus driver were like a comedy duo at times. It made for a very friendly and cheerful adventure throughout our tour. I hope you will treasure these employees, as they make the magic for Gate1 tours. I would love to take another tour with Francis at the helm. Perhaps the Quebec Christmas Markets tour.
Todd H.
We just got back from our trip (after spending 3 days in Jasper on our own - more hiking). This was a fabulous trip! It was very active but we got to explore some beautiful areas and trails that we might not have found on our own. Mark G., our tour manager, bus driver and hiking guide (from White Mountain adventures) was truly excellent. His experience, knowledge of the area and friendly personality helped make this trip so enjoyable. Due to wildfire smoke and tourist crowds, Mark knew how to change our itinerary for optimal experiences. Additionally Mark gave us great suggestions for our visit in Jasper. Thanks Gate 1 for offering this trip - it was a great way to learn and explore the Canadian Rockies!
Pearl K.
Marc, our tour manager and Sam, our driver.... Both were outstanding. Both made our tour a memorable experience. Marc was strict but at the same time very polite, organized. patient and incredibly helpful in every aspect. His knowledge, professionalism and super friendly nature were admirable. I truly think we couldn't have got anyone better than him as our tour manager. And Sam was so caring. He was very aware of our safety and always was very attentive. We will always consider Gate 1 Travel for our future travels.
Tapasree B.
I can't say anything bad about this trip to the Canadian Rockies. Our tour manager, Marc, was beyond excellent. We learned so much about Canada and fell in love with the country. Planning to join Gate1 for the other tours in that country in the next year. Gate1 is our go-to travel company and we have taken 8 or 9 trips and plan to do many more. Marc and our driver, Sam, were great and made this trip our most favorite so far! Thanks Gate1 for a great experience.
Valasha S.
This is our second trip with Sinead as our tour manager. While all of the tour managers on prior trips have been excellent, Sinead stands out at the top of the list. She has outstanding leadership skills and is so knowledgeable about everything. She is kind and caring and makes sure that everyone is taken care of. We hope to take future trips with her as the tour manager!
Sheridan W.
Trip exceeded expectations. Itinerary visited the main "iconic" locations I wanted to see and allowed enough time to not feel terribly rushed even though there was not enough time for extended walking. Hotels were good, bus & driver were excellent, tour leader Carolyn was excellent.
Andrew H.
On our recent trip to Banif National Park, our tour manager Alina was beyond excellent. Actually words fall short of explains our gratitude. She has raised the bar so high that we will look for her in every trip. She left an indelible print in our memories. She went above and beyond in every area, making everyone included, excellent entertainment while on road, small gestures of serving special teas, special snacks, excellent games made the trip memorable. Wish she grows in this field and touch many more people. God bless her.
Satish S.
Wanted Gate 1 to know of all the bus trips that I have been on in the past 15 years this trip provided the best overall quality of hotels and breakfasts. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our trip.
David A.
Gary excelled as a tour manager. He was knowledgeable, friendly, humorous, organized, communicative, and followed up continually checking on us. Could not ask for more or better service from him. Our third trip ... all three tour managers have been excellent, but Gary exceeded our expectations. Also, his driver, JT, was very good. Together, they made the trip better than the scenery.
Keith T.
I wanted to say Nancy our tour guide and Clint our driver were excellent. They are both friendly and very professional ensuring we had everything we needed and keeping us informed and engaged the whole trip. They are a great team and worked well together. They made the trip for us. So knowledgeable about the tour and all the great tips they provided. You have two great employees with Nancy and Clint.
Teresa R.
It was a beautiful trip. Tina is the best! She is knowledgeable and funny . She was a joy to be around! Liz is the best bus driver we have ever had! She can maneuver that bus! She always greeted us with a smile! The trip was organized and fun! The hotels were a plus. Great locations! Thank you! We are looking forward to more Gate1 vacations!
Angelia R.
I wanted to mention that the cohesiveness, coordination, and knowledge of the Tour Manager, Aaron was 2nd to none. It was so interesting to observe the way he planned and coordinated each day filling it with incredible sites and his history knowledge, Aaron entertained us as we drove along and provoked group comradery with videos, music (including a playlist), and games. He had a well curated blend of activities to fill our day, even to extent of knowing which time of the day was the best time to visit some sites, dealing with people on the tour who in my opinion, were really marginal in abilities to take the tour (they should have read the description) and common issues as they presented themselves. He knew excellent restaurant choices and local delicacies, and finite details about each community we visited. He positive outlook, courtesy and good nature was wonderful! It is also worth mentioning Parv (not sure of his full name), the driver. He was very kind, polite, and courteous. He was a great driver and daily presented the bus well. It was such a great experience, and it's people like these that make me look forward so much to my next Gate 1 adventure.
Barton B.
This was our first trip with Gate 1 and I know there will be many more. From our reservation person Mary, our tour guide Francis and our driver Derek, it was a great experience! We have been on many tours before, but we appreciated the size of the group, the way Francis involved everyone on our trip and made our group a cohesive group. Derek with the red carpet treatment, it was just an experience that I never had before that checked all the boxes and then some. Well done Gate 1!
Carol B.
Our trip was fantastic. In addition to touring the beautiful country of Canada, TJ was a wonderful bus driver and Lisa was a very special tour guide. TJ was a very safe driver and he kept the bus immaculate. There was never a speck of dirt on the inside or outside of the bus. Lisa's knowledge of the area was phenomenal. Everyday she made sure we had adequate bathroom stops and always had a special treat for us. The trip went without a problem because she was always on top of things. This was our third trip on Gate One and Lisa and TJ were the best tour guide and bus driver that we have had. I would recommend them to anyone.
Catherine N.
The tour was excellent and much of this can be attributed to our outstanding tour guide, Alina. She kept us informed and entertained on all our bus rides. She did many little extras like serving us a different tea every afternoon and providing Canadian treats. She was always upbeat and patient with the group. Her knowledge and love of the area really shined through.
Debbie S.
After 10 Gate1 tours, I have to say that our Tour Manager, Marc, was our best Tour Manager, ever! He was thoughtful, friendly, funny, and engaging. He made every part of the trip fun and enjoyable, with information, comments, trivia, relevant music, etc. He was so good that our group, which included several couples with 20+ Gate1 trips, gave him a standing ovation at the Farewell dinner. We hope to have him as a Tour Manager again one day and will be looking into another trip he guides.
Regina C.
We would like to give a shoutout to both our Tour Guide, Chantal, and Bus Driver, Tim. Chantal is a very experienced, personable Tour Guide who knew all aspects of this 9-day Canadian Rockies trip including knowledge of the mountains, glaciers, wildlife, weather conditions, restaurants and bathroom stops. She was always well prepared, telling us about our daily schedule in advance and informing us of any specific issues e.g. the construction at the Waterton Lakes hotel. On the first day, she told us that having us enjoy the spectacular scenery was her goal with a modicum of her talking. She set the tone with stories and music to accompany the beautiful scenery which I was very appreciative of as it relaxed me and made for a wonderful trip. Tim, the Bus Driver, was excellent. Given his 25 years of experience, we felt safe in his hands. He introduced himself the first day and greeted us both on leaving and entering the bus, setting the tone for an enjoyable, trusting, yet causal relationship. He got us to all our stops on time and spotted much wildlife including black bears, deer and elk which made our tour outstanding. This was the first time Chantal and Tim shared a tour together. Their synergy and cordialness were palpable as I would have thought they worked together all the time. We've been on five Gate1 trip, and this was the most memorable because of both Chantal and Tim.
Fredrick S.
I was on the 8 Day Canadian National Parks with Lake Louise tour. We absolutely had the best tour manager and bus driver EVER. Sinead was knowledgeable about geography, geology, wildlife, government, and able to answer ANY question. Her ability to manage the group professionally and with a smile was the best I've ever seen in a tour manager. Partnered with an excellent and personable bus driver, it equaled an incredible trip with lifelong memories.
Betty B.
I would especially like to commend our Tour Director, Micky, for an excellent job. He was very skilled in helping to cultivate group cohesiveness; enthusiastically shared knowledge of the sites we visited; was creative in sharing information and suggestions. I appreciated his encouragement of our taking the optional Museum experience in Ottawa. That turned out to be an unexpected highlight of the tour and a moving experience. Micky and our driver, John ( originally from Glasgow, made this tour truly memorable)
Paula M.
We loved the trip. The mountains and lakes were fabulous. Our guide Geoff and driver Ken were a great team. We are looking at options for our next adventure. Gate 1 never disappoints. Keep up the great tours and options.
Heather H.
This was my first trip with Gate 1, and it has exceeded my expectations! The organization of routes, sights, reservations & tickets was outstanding. I cannot say enough praise for our coach driver, Ken, and our tour guide, Geoff. Ken was so kind and helpful, somehow determined to keep the coach windows clean for our viewing pleasure, as well as always offering a hand and a smile getting off the coach. Geoff made this trip magical! His knowledge of Alberta history was beyond belief, as well as his ability to know all the names of the lakes, rivers, and mountains! He was so kind and made a connection with me almost immediately. The group of people on this tour was also amazing: kind, friendly, and relatable. This was not only my first experience with Gate 1, but also my first time traveling solo. Looking back, I am reassured knowing this was the best decision for me! I intend to return again and again!

I can't say enough good things about the itinerary. Every stop was great but there were several highlights for us. We loved Peggy's Cove, it was so picturesque and the people were so friendly. We also loved the stops at the distillery and the oyster farm which gave one a great feel for the local flavor of the area as well as the Prince Edward Island Preserve Co. Our personal favorites were walking the ocean floor and seeing the rock formations at the Bay of Fundy and also experiencing the "Reversing Falls" in Saint John. The optional sail on the Bras d'Or Lake in Baddeck was also a highlight. The Canadian people were very welcoming at every stop and the hotels and restaurants all first class. Shelly our tour guide was friendly and informative as was Lane, our driver and they interacted easily with the group. Her suggestion to take in the Baddeck Gathering Ceilidh was wonderful and provided an inside look at the Celtic culture in Cape Breton and was fun. The tour more than measured up to our expectations and we look forward to joining future Gate 1 tours!
Jerry G.
As is usual with Gate 1, this trip was EXCELLENT! Nancy, our tour manager, made the trip fun and enlightening. She has warmth and friendliness as well as knowledge that she imparted to us. Her sense of humor was great, especially keeping us positive during a day of full rain. Her ideas for alternate activities was spot on and we never felt disappointed, even with 2 cancelled optional tours...the helicopter and the float trip, Nancy and Driver Nelson kept us entertained and busy. We felt cared for and safe and any question was answered fully and promptly. She is a wonderful ambassador for both Canada and Gate 1. Our driver, Nelson, was efficient, friendly and he also had good ideas for alternates in the rain. The steady rain on day 1 made for low visibility in the mountains but he navigated well and always made us feel safe. He was able to spot wildlife and made sure we saw it. Both of these fine people made this an outstanding trip! Judy, the Calgary guide, was also very knowledgeable and made the rainy day a pleasure. We have never been disappointed in Gate 1 tours, having completed about 10, and this one rates among the very best! We will book more!
Lynne B.
What a fantastic trip! We were thoroughly enchanted by every part of the trip - the tour director, Andreanne, deserves special recognition! - but we loved it all. The itinerary, accommodations, transportation, and all other aspects were so wonderful.
Linda M.
I just wanted to post some additional comments about our recent 8 days National Parks Canada tour. On the automated survey the choice "Excellent" is not enough to rate our tour manager Russ and bus driver Roy. They deserve a rating of Excellent+1000! They were amazing and I am so thankful they were our tour guides for the week. Russ was all of the things listed on the survey (punctual, friendly, safe) and MORE. I brought my 11 year old son with me on the tour. I knew coming into this that the gate1 tour would likely not have other kids. However, Russ and Roy made my son's time unforgettable. They were so kind to him and treated him with respect, and made sure we had recommendations that fit him. Russ and Roy were great problem solvers and we got to see and do so much on our tour. Cannot thank them both enough, and I really hope to have more tours with Russ in the future.
Megan W.
Mark, our tour guide was the best guide I have ever experienced. Knowledgeable, flexible, passionate, and compassionate to our hikers. He was the best.
Kris S.
Our vacation was absolutely fantastic! We experienced breathtaking lakes, spectacular mountain views, and unforgettable scenery throughout the trip. It was an incredible experience, and we had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people along the way. We were truly impressed with the hotels, the food, and the overall quality and organization of the tour. Every detail was thoughtfully planned, making the entire experience seamless and enjoyable. I can't say enough wonderful things about our guide, Marc, and our driver, Ali. Marc was exceptional, sharing his knowledge and passion at every stop. He went above and beyond with thoughtful touches and special surprises that made our trip even more memorable. Ali was a pleasure to travel with-always friendly, smiling, and making us feel safe and comfortable throughout the journey. What impressed me most was the attention to detail. From arriving at the lakes at just the right time for the best lighting and most breathtaking views, to the priority access and smooth experiences we enjoyed as part of our group, every aspect of the trip reflected careful planning and expertise. This vacation exceeded our expectations in every way. We can't wait to book our next Gate1 trip!

I wanted to share my thoughts on a recent trip we completed to the Canadian Rockies. What an amazing experience it was, and a huge part of that was due to our tour director, Sinead. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the area and very detail-oriented. Sinead took care of even the smallest details, including our luggage, seating arrangements, meals, and even locating restrooms at every stop, which was especially important since we had many senior citizens on the bus. She also provided great recommendations for local attractions and dining options. I have traveled with other tour groups in the past, but Gate 1 has been the best. My positive experience is directly attributed to the excellent service that Sinead provided. A big thank you to Sinead and Gate 1 for a wonderful trip!
Prashant S.
This was our 23rd Gate 1 trip and it was fantastic! Our guide and driver were amazing, knowledgeable, and fun! The tea at Lobster Cove Lighthouse was a highlight of the trip, the atmosphere, the story telling and the molasses cookies. Neddy's restaurant was also fantastic. Seeing the icebergs and learning about them was great. This was a wonderful trip and I highly recommend it.
Denise B.
Our recent 9-day tour of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick was exceptional. Our tour manager and guide, Julia, did a fantastic job immersing us in the culture, history, and geography of the region. Her excellent organizational skills kept us perfectly on schedule, and her knowledge and enthusiasm made the journey truly memorable. Thanks to her energy, our group quickly bonded into a cohesive "Gate 1 family." Additionally, our driver, Mark, completed the team with his remarkable professionalism and skill. This was our 42nd trip with Gate 1, and we look forward to many more. Thank you for another wonderful experience!
Sabahat A.
Patrick was professional, knowledgeable, and felt like we made a new friend. Our driver Mike was also very good, he did an amazing job on both back roads and busy city traffic. Another new friend as well! The trip contained a perfect mix of quaint gems, natural beauty, historic information and bustling beautiful cities. We will definitely use Gate 1 again!
Carol K.
The trip was wonderful. Niagara Falls, Toronto, Ottawa and Quebec City with their government institutions and. shops near the hotels Montreal capped off the trip with its fine restaurants, picturesque walkways, shops and piers. The bus rides between the cities were at times a bit long, but we had nice rest stops including a wine tasting locale presentation on our way to Montreal.
Wesley O.
The trip was terrific! We've never been east of Niagara Falls and Toronto. We had a wonderful time thanks to tour guide Russ and bus driver John.
Mark G.
Our Canadian Rockies adventure was outstanding; along with the amazing natural environment, our leader Greg created a magical experience that will never be forgotten. The beauty of the area, the excellence of transportation, hotels, food, and tour guides all provided an unforgettable experience under Greg's leadership. His concern for all of us created a safe, eminently enjoyable experience for each one of us. I cannot thank Greg and Gate 1 enough. Our farewell dinner exemplified our gratitude and appreciation for Greg's ability to create meaningful experiences for a quite diverse group. This trip will never be forgotten.
Mary S.
My trip to Canada was amazing! Last year, I did the trip that starts in Toronto and ends in Montreal. I had the most wonderful tour director, Marc ! In fact... We had so much fun with him, I selected this year's trip specifically to do another tour with Marc. He is very organized, punctual, and his attention to detail is beyond belief! He goes out of his way to make sure everybody knows what's happening and has all the good options on our choice of lunch and dinner at the new town. He is also so funny, has lots of fun games and great music choices! I love traveling with Gate One and I've never had a bad experience... But Marc is the reason I came back again this year to do the West Coast of Canada. I wish he did more tours because I would sign up for them today!
Laurie S.
Our guide Geoff on the Niagra Falls, Toronto, Ottawa, Quebec and Montreal tour was fantastic. He was friendly, knowledgeable and very organized. Geoff was always available to answer questions and solve any problems. I would love to take another trip with him. Our driver Betty was also excellent.
Audrey W.
Marc, our Tour Manager, is the reason we rated our first Gate 1 tour an Exceptional one. He was the glue that made the entire trip fun, efficient, thoughtful given most of the guests were seniors, and memorable. We sang together, laughed, and became a cohesive group from day 1. We are already looking for another Gate 1 tour and hoping to find another "Marc" in our next tour guide.
Lillian R.
I just want to commend tour group leader Geoff. It is not easy to wrangle a busload of people in crowded cities. There were a few in the tour group who had no awareness of time or place or other people, but Geoff kept everyone in step, and we got everywhere we needed to be. Geoff was so knowledgeable about Canadian history too. I learned more on this trip than I had on other trips to the area. Our coach driver was the best! He had to turn that coach around in some very tight spots in Montreal and Quebec City. He was pleasant and made sure he helped people on and off coach as needed.
Alisa P.
The Quebec City trip was wonderful! From our meeting with our tour guide, Francis, till we left the hotel, everything was first class. We liked the convenience of the hotel and the breakfasts there were always very nice. All tours were presented in a professional manner with hometown compassion shining through the guide's presentations. We've come to expect nothing but the best from Gate 1 and my family has yet to be disappointed.
Sharon R.
I recently took a tour to the Christmas markets in Québec city, I had a wonderful time. Everything was perfect. I 100% enjoyed Micky our tour guide. He was a delight and I hope I am able to tour with him again.
Susan L.
Fabulous! We went December 11 and the entire time we were there in Montreal it snowed. It was really magical. The trip to Tremblant was absolutely fantastic. Our guide John was also fantastic. This was our fifth Gate 1 trip and we will be back!
Mary E.
Our 37th GATE 1 trip, though only a few days, was excellent thanks to a well-designed itinerary and Francis, one of the best GATE 1 guides we've ever had. He TRULY cared that we as a group got the most out of the experience.
Richard P.
The experience was exceptional. Our tour guide Greg was incredible and even with somewhat inclement weather conditions on a couple of days made the experience enjoyable. Our driver Dennis was also exceptional. We will certainly be back for future trips.
Edwin P.
Just wanted to give some kudos to our Tour Manager, Greg . He led our tour with friendliness and professionalism. Made the group comfortable. His knowledge of the places we went was excellent. He introduced us to each area with enthusiasm and humor, always making us smile. Keep this guy, he's a Winner!
Maria D.
This was a wonderful trip. The Hilton was a clean, comfortable hotel outside the old city gate. Chuck was a great tour guide- funny, patient and knowledgeable. Very well done.
Julie E.
I'm responding to your email about our recent Canada trip. It was an awesome 10 days; our tour director Tina was gracious, knowledgeable, funny, and she made this beautiful part of the world come to life! Since we were a small group of 14, she was able to add a few extra scenic stops, and was also flexible to accommodate some special requests throughout the week. We can't properly express our high satisfaction with her! Our driver, Nelson, did a wonderful job throughout the week...and accolades to him for a spotless coach from arrival to departure. This was our first venture with Gate 1, and I'm sure we will look at future trips with you when the time presents itself.
Dana K.
