Know Before You Go | |
Although most of the planning and preparation is taken care of for you, there are still a few things you should know and some details you should take care of to ensure your comfort, safety and peace of mind. Please review the following information before your departure to ensure that any surprises along the way will only be pleasant ones. |
Getting Ready to Go |
Passports and Visas |
It is each traveler's responsibility to have a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the dates of travel and a visa if required. Please check the information at www.gate1travel.com/visas.aspx for the specific country/region you are visiting for more details. IMPORTANT: Passengers who are not U.S. citizens must check with the respective consulate or a visa agency to determine what personal identification is required. Passengers who enter, leave and then re-enter the same country on their itinerary should check if they require a double-entry visa. Passport applications are available at most U.S. Post Offices, as well as at regional Passport Agencies. Passengers requiring visas, whether obtained in advance or locally upon arrival, should ensure that their passport has blank pages.
|
Traveling with Friends or Family? |
If you are traveling with friends or family who are booked on another reservation, please make sure that we are aware. On occasion, we may operate more than one vehicle on your tour departure in which case we will ensure that guests will be assigned together. This is achieved by connecting your reservations before your departure. Once you arrive in your destination, it may not be possible to make assignment changes. To check that your reservations are linked, log into https://www.gate1travel.com/reservations with your email and password, select your reservation number, and check to see that your reservations are indicated as "Traveling With" at the top right side of the display. |
Trip Preparation |
A little pre-planning can make your trip go a lot smoother. Several weeks before your trip, make a list of what you will need to take with you. Make sure your personal documents (passports, visas, driver's license) are in order. Make sure also that you have enough prescription medications to last through the trip and carry them with you in case your luggage is delayed. Bring a change of clothes in your carry-on bag in the event that your luggage is delayed or lost. Lost luggage is common. We strongly urge you to consider carry-ons instead of checked bags when possible, and when checking a bag is necessary, choose a bag color and identification that stands out. We suggest that you make photocopies of passports, visas, personal ID and any other important travel documents and pack them separately from the originals. You may also make a digital copy of your passport to keep a clear picture with the important details in your cell phone or digital camera photos. If you lose the originals while traveling, you'll have copies for easier reporting and replacement. Pack a list of medications including dosage and generic names. You may consider bringing a small supply of over the counter medications for headaches and/or anti-diarrhea pills (especially when traveling outside of the USA and Western Europe). We recommend that you pack a portable alarm clock. Due to security reasons, many museums have restrictions on the size of bags that can be taken inside and backpacks, carry-on bags or large purses may not be permitted. It is recommended to bring a small shoulder bag or purse to use in these situations instead. Avoid placing valuables such as cameras in your checked luggage. Airplane pressure can cause similar pressure in your body, most notably in ears, as well as liquid tubes and bottles. Your physician can suggest medication for decongestion. We suggest that you place liquid containers into Ziploc bags to catch any leaks. |
Travel Safety Advice: The safety of our guests is Gate 1’s #1 concern. Before making the decision to reserve your vacation, we want you to be aware of potential situations which may impact your holiday. While most of the time our programs run precisely according to plans, on rare occasion force majeure events including weather, transportation mechanical issues, or uninhabitable accommodation, civil unrest and even criminal or terrorist activities will present themselves unexpectedly and with little or no notice. Gate 1 will make the decision to cancel a tour only after receiving verifiable government issued information. We are otherwise obliged to comply with contractual airline and vendor agreements and carry out the tour until or unless we are advised otherwise. In the event of such an occurrence anytime after your date of departure, Gate 1 and the local destination ground staff, in coordination with government advisories, airlines, hotels, cruise ships and other vendors, will make decisions with regard to your safety first. We strongly recommend that tour participants review the destination country's specific information at https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/alertswarnings.html. |
Travel Protection |
Even the best-planned trips can be impacted by the unexpected. And that is why we recommend that you help protect yourself and your investment by purchasing Travel Protection for your Gate 1 trip. Travel Protection can help with medical coverage for illness or injury, trip cancellation and/or interruption, baggage loss, medical evacuation, and more. At any time before you complete Final Payment, you may choose to purchase Travel Protection. The protection plan premium is non-refundable after a 10-day review period. In addition, you must be medically able to travel at the time the premium is paid. For a summary of the plan details on coverages, benefits, limitations and exclusions, please refer to the Description of Coverage by visiting www.gate1travel.com/insurance/. Cancel for Any Reason Waiver Benefit (CFAR) is a non-insurance feature that allows you to cancel up to 72 hours before your scheduled departure for any reason not otherwise covered in the Travel Protection Plan. CFAR must be purchased at the same time as the Travel Protection Plan as well as within 21 days of the original booking date. Independent or escorted tour reservations will be eligible for a future travel credit equal to the full cost of your trip, less the cost of initial deposit, airline-assessed fees, amendment fees, and insurance premium. Sea or river cruise reservations will be eligible for a future travel credit equal to 50% of the cost of your trip, less the cost of initial trip deposit, airline-assessed fees, amendment fees, and insurance premium. All CFAR credits are valid for a period of two years from the original date of travel. CFAR Credits have no cash value and are not transferrable. Airline-assessed fees are generally $300 per person, but may be as much as fully non-refundable. Some non-refundable airline tickets may retain value, less airline-assessed fees. Your future air credit must be used to book with the same airline. Deadlines to rebook and complete travel vary by airline and may be as early as 12 months from when the tickets were originally issued (not the date of travel). For details, www.gate1travel.com/insurance/. This program does not apply to custom groups and Antarctica cruises. Residents of New York, Missouri & Minnesota may purchase this Cancel for Any Reason Waiver Benefit separate from Travel Protection. Call to speak with a reservation agent for details. This Cancel for any Reason Wavier Benefit is not insurance and is provided by Gate 1 Travel. |
Mobile Phones |
Mobile networks differ from country to country. We recommend you check with your provider to see if your wireless plan will work in the destination(s) you are visiting. To avoid possible roaming charges, you may want to consider purchasing an international plan. With most major phone companies, for a modest fee, you will be able to use your domestic plan's talk, text, and data allowances just like you do at home. If you can access the internet while you travel, you can also take advantage of services such as WhatsApp or Skype. |
Making Telephone Calls from One Country to Another |
When dialing a number from one country to another, you should proceed as follows: dial your country's Exit Code (often indicated with a “+” sign), then the destination Country Code, then the Phone Number. For most countries, the exit code is 00. Exceptions include the USA and Canada (011), Hong Kong and Cambodia (001), Australia (0011), and Russia (8 Pause 10*). For Brazil, please consult with the local telephone company. If you are dialing from a mobile phone, you can enter a “+” instead of the international Exit Code (011, 001, 0011 or 00) by pressing and holding the 0 key. For most countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, South America and South Pacific, if you are calling from a local phone to a number within the same country, you should drop both the exit and country codes and then add a leading 0 (zero). Exceptions include Spain, Italy, Hungary and Malta (no additional zero needed to dial locally). Example: To dial the following number in Germany (as listed on your voucher): +(49) 0555-555 From USA or your US cell phone: 011-49-555-555 From another country in Europe: 00-49-555-555 From a German phone within Germany: 0555-555 |
WiFi Access |
WiFi is available in most airports, hotels, and cruise lines, as well as on some flights, trains, and buses. There may be a fee for access and service quality and speed may vary greatly especially while on moving vehicles. Availability on cruises is also dependent upon its location while sailing through multiple countries. Please note that WiFi can be extremely slow, unreliable, and sometimes nonexistent in developing countries. |
Staying Healthy While Traveling |
All travelers should familiarize themselves with local conditions, such as high altitude or required immunizations, which could affect their health. We recommend you consult with your personal healthcare provider, the Centers for Disease Control (www.cdc.gov) and/or the World Health Organization (http://www.who.int/en/) for their recommendations. There are several easy steps you can take to stay healthy while traveling which may help prevent contracting an illness while away from home.
|
Notice on Aircraft Cabin Insecticide Treatment - Please note that some countries may require aircraft cabin insecticide treatment for in-bound foreign flights. A list of such countries is available at:
http://www.dot.gov/office-policy/aviation-policy/aircraft-disinsection-requirements. |
Consideration for Tour Participants (Escorted Tours) |
For the benefit of all tour participants, we ask tour members to be considerate of their fellow travelers in the following ways:
|
Climate & Clothing |
Slovenia - Spring and Autumn: 40–65°F; Summer: 55–75°F; Winter: 20–35°F. Bring comfortable walking shoes, a sweater, clothes you can layer and an all-weather jacket. Some religious sites may require modest dress to enter (no shorts, short skirts, or sleeveless tops). Slovenia Average Temperatures:https://www.gate1travel.com/weather/europe/default.aspx#slovenia-weather |
Croatia - Spring and Autumn: 40–65°F; Summer: 65–85°F; Winter: 30–45°F. Bring comfortable walking shoes, a sweater, clothes you can layer and an all-weather jacket. Some religious sites may require modest dress to enter (no shorts, short skirts, or sleeveless tops). Croatia Average Temperatures: https://www.gate1travel.com/weather/europe/default.aspx#croatia-weather |
About Drones |
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) or "drone" technology has quickly become affordable and is increasingly popular with recreational users. While some countries have clear, established drone laws, others do not, or existing regulations are undergoing review and change. Travelers who wish to bring a drone on their trip are responsible to research and abide by the laws and regulations of the countries they are visiting, as well as to check with their airline(s) regarding their rules for transporting drones. Please note that tours are unable to extend the length of scheduled visits and stops to accommodate use of drones. |
Preparing for Your Trip |
Seat Assignments |
As a courtesy service, complimentary airline seat assignments are requested on your behalf and, when available, are displayed in order of Passenger #1, #2 and so on. Assignments reflect the best available seats at the time of booking. Some airlines and/or fare types do not allow for pre-seating and require this be done at airport check-in only; in which case the display shows “N/A”. Seats are subject to change by your airline(s) including, for example, when there is a schedule change or equipment change after your initial booking; this may cause seat assignments to be changed or even cancelled. Some airlines offer preferred seating for an additional fee; these seats may only be purchased directly from the airline. You will need your family name and the 6-digit airline “Record Locator” which is displayed with the flight details on your reservation. In the event that you change seat assignments directly with your airline, changes will not be reflected on your invoice or documents. At the time that Gate 1 travel documents are issued, the currently assigned seats will be listed based on the assignments stored in your airline reservation at that time. Should you have questions regarding your assignments, please write to us at www.gate1travel.com/contactus. |
Luggage & Packing |
Checked bags are typically limited to a total dimension of 62 inches by adding length + width + height (example: 26"+26"+10" = 62”), and a maximum weight of 50 lbs (23kg). Smart Bags with a USB charging port, GPS tracking device and other high-tech features are prohibited as checked or carry-on baggage unless the bag is made with removable batteries and the batteries are removed and stored separately. Many airlines charge for checked bags including flights which begin and end within the USA. The most inexpensive airfare options commonly known as Basic Economy airfares do not include any checked bags nor seat assignments before the day of departure. However, for some airlines, other airfare categories also do not include checked baggage. This will be clearly displayed in our airfare selection and on your invoice. Where available, we highly recommend selecting airfares which include at least 1 piece of checked baggage. Gate 1 Travel is not responsible for checked bag fees, excess luggage or weight charges levied by an airline. Checked baggage allowances displayed on reservation details and invoices reflect the applicable allowance at the time of booking but are subject to change by your airline(s). For your airline’s requirements and fees, visit www.gate1travel.com/baggagefees.aspx. For important baggage information, visit www.gate1travel.com/luggage.aspx. Avoid placing valuables in your checked luggage. Federal law forbids the carriage of hazardous materials aboard the aircraft in your luggage, your carry-on or on your person. A violation can result in five years’ imprisonment and penalties of $250,000 or more (49 U.S.C. 5124). Hazardous materials include explosives, compressed gases, flammable liquids and solids, oxidizers, poisons, corrosives and radioactive materials. Examples: Paints, lighter fluid, fireworks, tear gases, oxygen bottles, and radio-pharmaceuticals. There are special exceptions for small quantities (up to 70 ounces total) of medicinal and toilet articles carried in your luggage and certain smoking materials carried on your person. Check the Transportation and Safety Administration (TSA) website www.tsa.gov to find out the current list of acceptable items you may bring on a plane before packing. We recommend that you use brightly colored luggage tags, straps or other identifiers to help you locate you luggage upon arrival or to describe it in the event that it is lost. |

Flight Services |
What to do if You Need Assistance |
Whether you purchased your airfare from Gate 1 Travel or from the airline directly, please bear in mind that Gate 1 Travel does not own nor operate the airline(s), nor the airport facilities where they operate. At times, flying can be a frustrating experience, especially when things do not go exactly as planned, and airline explanations can be confusing or even misleading. Should you face a problem, remain calm and seek assistance either from the airline directly or from Gate 1. Please be aware that in most cases, on the day of your flight(s), airlines pass responsibility for your reservation to their staff at the airport and it is not always possible for Gate 1 Travel to intervene on your behalf, either through our reservations system or directly with your airline. |
Arrival & Departure |
Arrival Procedures |
Upon arrival, please complete immigration formalities if necessary and claim your luggage. If your program includes airport arrival transfers, check your voucher for specific instructions, as they vary with every destination. In most cases, you will be met after collecting your luggage or passing through Customs by the local representative who will be holding a Gate 1 Travel sign and/or a sign with your name on it. In some instances you will be instructed to walk a short distance to a transportation counter. The company's name and location will be printed on your voucher. If for any reason you do not connect with the Gate 1 transfer personnel, go to the Tourist Information Desk and ask them to page the Gate 1 Travel representative or phone the number on your voucher. If you are delayed due to lost luggage, phone the number on the voucher or have a companion exit the Customs Area to advise the transfer representative. Be wary of airport scammers who offer unwanted assistance. If you are arriving without a pre-arranged transfer, we strongly recommend going to the Tourist Information Desk to ask for a licensed taxi or transfer service. You may be asked to pay for the transfer at the desk prior to the trip, this will ensure you are not charged extra during the trip. |
What To Do When Your Flight Is Delayed |
Airlines do not share flight manifest information. Therefore, the only way we may learn of a delay or schedule change while you are traveling is from you, the traveler. The sooner you are able to contact one of our offices, the better we can respond. Please refer to the Emergency Assistance instructions on this same document. Gate 1 Travel is only able to guarantee pre-reserved arrival transfers for up to one hour from the scheduled time, no matter the cause. In case you are delayed for any reason, and are unable to follow the instructions on your voucher, please make independent transfer arrangements and retain your receipts. Unused tour services, including transfers and hotel nights are not refundable. Upon you return home you will need to contact your airline and/or insurance carrier to investigate the possibility of reimbursement for any unused tour services. |
Departure Procedures |
If your program includes departure transfers, instructions will be stated on your voucher or provided locally. |
Transfers |
Due to local traffic and other extenuating circumstances, we ask that you allow 30 minutes from your scheduled transfer time for our representative to arrive. This includes hotel, airport and cruise transfers. Such possible delays are taken into consideration in scheduling transfers and you should therefore have no concerns about arriving late for your tour, flight or cruise. For transfers from a hotel, let the hotel reception desk or concierge know that you are waiting for a transfer. In the case of a missed transfer, reimbursement for your out-of-pocket expenses will be considered provided you obtain a written statement from the hotel's front desk verifying the length of time you waited, and the time you left the hotel, and a receipt for your transportation with time and date. The cost of a transfer is more expensive than hiring a taxi, as a Gate 1 transfer necessarily includes round trip service, or 'dead-leg'. Often the places of call (airports, seaports, hotels) demand entrance and parking fees, where drivers may have to wait for up to an hour. Passengers comfortable hiring a taxi on their own and do not require assistance will save money. |
About Your Accommodations |
Hotels |
Gate 1 Travel has carefully selected each hotel based on overall quality, location, price, service, and cleanliness. All rooms are standard twin-bedded (two single beds) rooms with private facilities. Special requests such as bed types, smoking preference and connecting rooms are subject to availability. Room selection in all cases, unless otherwise reserved, is strictly at the discretion of the hotel's management on a run-of-house basis. Triple rooms consist of standard twin beds or one double bed plus a sofa/folding bed or cot for third person except in the U.S. and Canada, where triple rooms often consist of two double/queen beds for three persons; where available, a fee may be charged by the hotel for the addition of a cot/rollaway. The number of persons accommodated does not dictate the room size. Although available at most 4 and 5 star hotels, the use of air-conditioning abroad differs greatly from the United States, and is often shut down at night and from the end until the start of the summer months. Some lodges and accommodations in remote regions may not have all of the amenities, such as hairdryer, alarm clock and room service, that you might find in a larger hotel located in a city center. |
Hotel Check-in/ Check-out |
Hotel check-in time is generally not before 4:00 p.m. and check-out time is prior to noon. If you will be arriving early in the day or departing in the evening, hotels will usually allow you to store your luggage in their luggage room. Ask at the front desk if the hotel can check you in earlier, or let you stay later. |
At Your Destination |
Eco & Sustainable Tourism |
We support global efforts to create a more eco-friendly world, intolerant of any forms of cruelty, abuse and intentional environmental destruction. To that end we ask that our clients maintain a watchful eye as they travel, and report any abuses they may encounter. One of the many benefits of tourism is the shared cultural knowledge and ultimate elimination of negative behavior through education. We rely on your good feedback to enable this element of symbiosis. As you travel and learn about foreign cultures, we ask first and foremost that you practice tolerance and respect for local customs. |
Gratuities |
Tipping is always a matter of personal discretion. For your convenience, please use the summary below as a guideline for recommended gratuity amounts. Gratuities may be paid in local currency or US dollar equivalent where accepted. On some itineraries, particularly those with flights included during the tour, you may encounter multiple drivers and local guides throughout. It is recommended to keep small bills on hand for tipping. Please be aware that tipping is considered by many locals to be a part of their normal remuneration and some may approach you for additional "compensation." There is no need to be intimidated by the request, nor should you feel pressured to pay more than recommended. If you become uncomfortable by any behavior you encounter, please advise your tour manager or phone our local office. Numbers are provided in your documents for your convenience. |
Suggested Tipping: Escorted Tours |
Tour Manager (Coordinator; may or may not act as a guide): US $10 per person per day Driver (Provides chauffeur services and limited assistance with luggage): US $5 per person per day, US $3 per half day Local Guide (Offers in-depth information at specific locations. There may be one or many guides along a tour program): US $5 per person per day of sightseeing, US $3 per half day Hotel porters and wait staff: Included |
Slovenia - Gratuities are appreciated and expected for good service in restaurants and other places that cater to tourists. Restaurant bills often include a service charge. |
Croatia - Gratuities are appreciated and expected for good service in restaurants and other places that cater to tourists. Restaurant bills often include a service charge. |
About Your Sightseeing |
To ensure a pleasant and fair experience for passengers on our escorted tours, there is a mandatory seat rotation policy on our motor coaches which will be organized by your Tour Manager. On river cruises, color-coded group splits may be used for shoreside included and Optional tours. Some buses are equipped with toilet facility, however they are strictly intended for emergency use only and often require the vehicle to stop for safety reasons before use. When travel dates coincide with religious holidays and national celebrations, some monuments and sites may be closed, sometimes without prior notice. On these occasions, escorted touring itineraries may be amended to reflect these closures. Occasionally, during holidays and certain periods, and/or due to other unforeseen circumstances including weather conditions, there may be last-minute changes, sometimes after arrival, which may affect the sequence of the tour and locations visited. National monuments and tourist sites regularly undergo renovations, which can obscure the monument's view. No tour will be canceled due to renovations, however Gate 1 will decide based on the conditions whether to amend an itinerary. To respect the privacy of all tour participants, your tour manager will not organize a group photo or collect passenger email addresses for a group list. |
Land Only Passengers (Escorted Tours) |
Your tour manager will contact you after your arrival at your hotel. Passengers who have not purchased arrival transfers from Gate 1 Travel should proceed directly to the hotel for check-in. The details of the hotel can be found in your documents. |
Purchasing Tours Locally |
On escorted tours, the guides will generally sell optional tours to passengers who have not pre-purchased them. Payment can be made by cash or credit card, unless otherwise noted below. This does not apply to Independent packages. Please see Gate 1 Terms & Conditions for more information. https://www.gate1travel.com/terms.aspx#optional |
Independent Activities - Gate 1 itineraries may contain suggestions for activities for your leisure time; these suggestions do not constitute a recommendation nor an endorsement of any specific service provider and the decision to participate in any such activities should be made independently and with due consideration. Gate 1 is not responsible for any activities not expressly included in its programs. Caution should be exercised when selecting certain activities that may require physical strength, coordination or exertion. Particular care should be taken when considering animal rides, such as on camels, mules or horses |
Slovenia - The Euro is the currency of Slovenia. |
Croatia - The Euro is the currency of Croatia. |
Shopping |
Most people enjoy bringing home at least one souvenir from the countries they visit. However, some find any amount of shopping to be too much while others never find enough opportunities. We have built into our Escorted itineraries a few shopping stops at recommended spots. These stops are designed to enhance your experience by providing an opportunity to see first-hand quality locally crafted merchandise which you may not be able to find on your own. Shops are checked to ensure the quality and authenticity of the products they offer, and we limit guides from visiting other locations. In some cases, we plan these stops to provide an opportunity to use clean bathrooms and to stretch your legs. All shops want your satisfaction, and therefore in case of any misunderstanding they ask that you kindly submit your claim to us within one week of the item's receipt. Claims submitted later will be subject to each store’s policies. While shopping independently, we advise you to exercise care and common sense when making any purchase. Always get a formal receipt. And remember that, just like in this country, if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is! About Tax-Free Shopping Tax-Free Shopping allows shoppers to reclaim the VAT (Value-Added Tax) or GST (Goods and Services Tax) they have paid on their purchases in some foreign countries in accordance with restrictions and procedures as dictated by each country. Refund eligibility varies by country, but may require presenting a scanned copy of your passport at the time of purchase, a minimum amount spent, or providing original store receipts. For more details, check the respective country’s online website, with the shop salesperson, with your tour manager or at www.globalblue.com for specific country regulations and airport operation hours. Please keep in mind that you must apply for VAT refund in the airport of the country the items were purchased and allow enough time prior to your flight for the application. U.S. Customs & Shipping Charges You may carry items with a fair retail value totaling $800 into the U.S. Taxes may be applied to the next $1,000 worth of merchandise. U.S. Customs determines the value of your items, often honoring a genuine sales receipt. Items which are shipped home are always subject to duty when received in the U.S. (in addition to shipping charges). Some shops may offer to include shipping and duties in the price but this typically means shipping only to the customs facility closest to you and payment only of the export duties; you would still need to collect the item and pay U.S. import duties. Please be aware that it is illegal to import products made from endangered animal species. U.S. Customs & Border Protection will seize these items, as well as most furs, coral, tortoise shell, reptile skins, feathers, plants, and items made from animal skins. |
Slovenia - Local specialties include bobbin lace, crystal, glassware, and wine. Business hours are Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., and Saturday 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. A value-added tax is now added to the purchase price of most goods. |
Croatia - For the best prices, seek out local markets offering a wide assortment of traditional handicrafts such as embroidery, ceramics, and woodcarvings. In stores, lavender sachets, fine Adriatic red coral, and crystal ware are popular items. Shops are generally open all day from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with shorter hours on Saturdays. |
Your Safety is Very Important |
Prior to your trip, if you are traveling overseas, we strongly recommend that you visit the website of the U.S. Department of State at www.travel.state.gov, specifically the section which addresses International Travel. You should read the tips for foreign travel and travel warnings for the country or countries that you plan to visit. It is also important that you do not allow your common sense to take a vacation while on your trip. Here are several tips which, if followed, will save much potential hardship:
If you've purchased an escorted tour program, your travel documents will include telephone numbers of local Gate 1 Travel representatives who will do their utmost to assist you in the event of an emergency. The numbers are printed on your Gate 1 Travel vouchers. Please copy the numbers. Once you relinquish the voucher, you will not have this information. Passengers traveling independently should employ the services of hotel concierges and local authorities. |

|
|
|

|
|
|

Thank you for reaching out! Our trip was AWESOME!!! We had such a good time. The weather did not cooperate at times, but it was still all good! Our tour director Ivona was the best! She was kind, thoughtful, attentive, and very funny! She gave so much information every step of the way that I left learning so much more than when I started the trip. Our group as a whole enjoyed the itinerary and all the tours and sightseeing, we experienced. We give this tour a solid 10!! Thank you so much! I will reach out to you for future bookings!
Sandra J.This trip exceeded my expectations! From the moment we were picked up in Tirana, to our farewell dinner in Slovenia, we had amazing experiences. Our tour guide Primoz was organized, friendly, funny, and very knowledgeable about the region. He showed us the gorgeous countryside, and beautiful coastlines of Albania, Montenegro, Croatia, and Slovenia. We visited historical sites and were able to experience a little different culture. The hotels were amazing, and the food delicious. I highly recommend this trip to anyone considering it. Thank you, Primoz, and Gate 1!
Lori R.I am very happy that gate1 has a hiking group now. Overall, it is very good. I just wished we got a chance to have more time on the trail, so we could take more pictures. We could shorten the lunch and made it longer on the trail since Croatia is very beautiful. I liked how you mixed learning culture in this hiking tour. Very happy with Zecko & Ivan. Keep up the good work Gate1. Looking forward for Greece hiking tour with you in the near future.
Miranda P.We had a wonderful time in Croatia- I think this trip was one of the best Gate 1 discovery tours we have taken. Mr. Z was a very organized tour manger. He and Ivan kept all of us safe and on track on our hikes. We enjoyed all the hikes with beautiful scenery. Croatia has beautiful islands and mountains. Our group got along so well like a little family. Mr Z also gave us an unexpected, unplanned bonus hike on our last day. That was a perfect ending of our tour. We are looking forward to our next Gate 1 trip. We can always count on Gate 1 for an unforgettable experience! Thank you again Gate1.
Lam-Anh G.The trip was fantastic! Our group was a lot of fun! Both guides were helpful & knowledgeable. I loved the cultural experiences. This was my first Gate 1 trip but I'll be looking for my next one.
Donna W.We have traveled with Gate 1- 3x now and all our trips have been wonderful, but our latest trip to Croatia/Slovenia and Venice was excellent. All the parts of the trip were well organized and everything for our travel and accommodation went smoothly. We appreciated all the arranged assistance with airport transfers and help with airport check-in. The historic sites speak for themselves but the additional tours and dinners were well planned and provided a wonderful variety of activities, we very much enjoyed the hike in Lakes of Skradinski Buk Park to the waterfalls. Hotels were all great places to stay (just a little warm for sleeping). All the food was wonderful and I am Gluten-free and there were lots of options for me. Lana was an impressive tour guide, very skilled and knowledgeable about the tour. Igor was a great bus driver and we always felt safe with him at the wheel. We could see that other tours staying at the hotels do not provide the same services that Gate 1 supplies, i.e. group check-in and help with luggage... these services are very much appreciated. This was a wonderful trip...now all we have to do is pick our next Gate 1 vacation tour.
Dorothy H.Our trip was "Wonderful"! It was an amazing time and our guide, Josep, was the "Best"!! Slovenia and Croatia are breathtakingly beautiful...the people are friendly, the places we went to were open and felt so safe, and we felt very pampered by Josep and Gate 1 Travel! My girlfriend asked me if I had to rate the trip from a 1-10, what would I give it? Without any hesitation, I replied, "10+!" We saw so much, enjoyed our group we were with for this trip, and Josep was kind, organized, punctual, thorough, thoughtful, funny, engaging, and helpful. He is very proud of his country, but yet honest and sincere about the ups and downs his country has gone through. We felt the love he has for these two countries and through him, his stories, etc, grew to love them too. We also had an excellent bus driver (Robby) who did a fantastic job and made everyone feel safe. He was very professional and took care of the bus, keeping it nice and clean, windows washed, and everything vacuumed every day. Great guy! We would highly recommend this location to anyone - there is so much to see and do and learn. If we ever get a chance to go back, we would!! Thank you, Gate 1, for all you did as well to make this trip so memorable and special. We will recommend Gate 1 to our friends and family. We were very happy and pleased with our trip. (We wish we were just going now...we would do it all again, and not change one thing)!
Antoinette T.Josip was an incredible Guide, his thoughtfulness, knowledge and concern for our safety and enjoyment were unparalleled and on a scale of 1 to 10, he is an 11!!! This was our eighth tour with Gate 1 and although ALL of our Guides have been top notch, Josip is a cut above. Josip left an impression on us as a man who truly loves his job, his country, and the guests he caters to 24/7. We travel extensively and our trips often blend together, but I assure you, neither this tour nor Josip's hospitality, wit and humor will ever be forgotten.
Joseph F.The trip was amazing, and Lana is a five-star travel leader. We loved every location. Lana provided local treats and the excursions were amazing. We are four cousins whose grandparents were from Croatia, and we learned a great deal about our heritage. The tours were the best. I highly recommend this trip.
Lilly C.Great tour because we had a great tour guide. Jelena is the best tour guide I've ever met. I have been traveling for the past 10-12 years. She has knowledge, patience, humor, kindness and so adaptable to our requests. Handles emergencies well.
Rosalinda R.The trip was wonderful - beautiful landscape, great food and our tour guide, Jelena, made the trip even more enjoyable. She interacted well with the group with the best sense of humor. Thank you, Gate 1.
Jacqueline G.I just wanted to personally write to say what an amazing guide we had for our Croatia trip. Biljana was by far the best guide we have had on a Gate 1 trip. She was thoughtful, organized, kind, knowledgeable and engaging. She had genuine concern for every traveler in the group and it was obvious that she took great pride in her job and her country. We enjoyed all of the countries that we visited very much, but Biljana made the experience even better. Thanks to Gate 1 for always raising the bar and providing another amazing trip.
Kimberly U.Thank you Gate 1...My trip to Slovenia and Croatia was wonderful and memorable! Biljana our guide and our driver Peter could not be nicer. Biljana was knowledgeable, thoughtful, and was always looking out for us. Peter was a great driver as he drove us through the beautiful countries we were visiting. Biljana and Peter would often surprise us with 'little treats' as we drove throughout the countries (I purchased some of the treats to share with people back home so they could experience a little flavor of the countries we visited). All of our hotels were first rate...the food was good and plentiful...and the farewell dinner was a great way to end our adventure. I did take two optional tours (dinner tours) and was glad I did, they were interesting and a lot of fun. And thank you also for the Birthday wishes... it was such a nice surprise. We were attending a dinner at a farmhouse the day of my birthday and the owners also surprised me with a small bottle of wine that they make...couldn't have been nicer! All in all, a wonderful and memorable experience. I am so happy that I had the opportunity to travel abroad again, and you helped to make it happen. Thank you, thank you Gate 1!!!
Annette M.This was our first escorted tour with Gate 1. We began the trip with a flight delay on our first leg which caused us to miss all subsequent connections. My husband contacted Gate 1 to make you aware of our circumstances, and that we would miss the last transfer at 4 p.m. from Ljubljana to Opatija. The customer service we received was outstanding as we were reassured our tour manager would be contacted and that when we arrived in Ljublijana at 10 p.m., someone would be there to take us to Opatija. When we arrived, Jan was there and we were so relieved! When we finally arrived at our hotel at midnight, our amazing tour manager, Biljana, was there to greet us and give us our room keys. She had also arranged for the restaurant to have plates with cold meats, cheese, and bread ready for us in our room. My husband and I are beyond impressed with Gate 1 and will definitely returning for future trips. Biljana is an exceptional tour manager. I believe she has set the bar extremely high for any other managers we will have in the future. Peter, our driver, was also excellent. He handled that bus extremely well and was calm, cool, and collected in all situations. I never write reviews, but felt I needed to in this situation because from the very beginning of our trip when things began to fall apart due to the airlines, Gate 1 went above and beyond to make sure we got enjoy our trip. Thank you!!
Joyce J.My trip was wonderful. My husband and I enjoyed the trip and Duann, our tour Manager made the trip more especial. He went above his duty to make the entire experience more fun. He was very attentive to all the passengers, from the missing luggage to people requesting especial accommodations in hotels and meals. Duann is a young man but with so much knowledge and experience. He answered all questions and if he didn't know something, he will research and get back to us the next day. Definitely one of our best trips and our favorite Tour Manager. This was our 10th Gate tour, and we really recommend to everyone.
Ana F.Wow what a fantastic trip and to think that this time last week we were in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Thank you for asking! I loved traveling during the holiday-no crowds, less congestion at all the sights and perfect weather. We had such a busy schedule and definitely got to see as much as we could pack into our 11-day trip. Definitely we will travel again during the holidays with Gate 1. The food was fantastic and plentiful, we actually did not eat out much because we were treated to such wonderful buffets in the morning and on occasion some evenings. We added all the extras. It really made the difference as we were able to visit the extra country Montenegro, visit the Istrian peninsula, as well as participate in the Croatian and Slovenia dinners with entertainment. I cannot 'rave' enough about our guide Damjan. He was so knowledgeable (being a former social studies teacher) as he was able to give us intricate details about the history of former Yugoslavia, the new countries, the social systems as well as the economics of the various countries such as who uses euros, current and past lifestyles of the Croats, Slovenians and Montenegrins ect. He also had a wealth of knowledge about the other countries and peoples of the Balkans. The hotel accommodations were spectacular with us being put up in (often) 5-star hotels due to the off season. Like I indicated before, the off season was an overall better time to travel, less congestion at sights which meant we got 1st class service and all the attention, less wait time at the border to Montenego(-none actually) and overall, less hurried leisurely time spent on the planned itinerary.
Pamela R.We recently returned from a spectacular trip to Albania, Montenegro, Croatia and Slovenia. Our tour manager, Primož, did an exceptional job of keeping us organized, safe and engaged as we learned a ton about the region's history, culture and natural beauty. The trip was put together in such a way that each day brought opportunities to visit fascinating places, see new landscapes and try special foods. The guides who met us in each city were well-informed and entertaining, and I was especially impressed with the woman who walked us through Split, Croatia. Our visit to Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia, stands out as the most memorable part of a truly unique travel experience. Thank you for the great adventure!
Rachel C.Excellent. Kristijian was the best tour guide ever! Knowledgeable, courteous, personable, prompt, thoughtful, considerate. He was careful to follow up the rear of the tour group when we had a local guide in a city. This ensured that no one got lost or left the group. He posted the rotation schedule for the bus every day and that worked perfectly!. He posted the daily schedule and repeated instructions multiple times so that there was no confusion. This was especially helpful with our group because we had a fairly large number of travelers for whom English was not their first language. We honestly cannot praise him enough!
George A.I want to express my gratitude for the wonderful service we received from your tour manager, Eronida (Enida), on our trip to Albania, Montenegro, Croatia, and Slovenia. Enida was kind, and supportive throughout the tour. She really did more than expected to ensure we had a lot of fun and a great time. Enida was prepared to answer our questions, share her views, and assist us. She was also highly organized and efficient, making sure that everything ran smoothly and on time, no hiccups! Thankfully, we had a great group of fellow loyal G1 travelers, so we did not have any issues, we all got along wonderfully. She was a great leader and a wonderful ambassador for your company and the countries we visited. Enida was not just our tour manager, but also our fast friend. She showed us beauty, culture, and history, sharing relevant information and answering our curious, sometimes silly, questions. She made sure that we were happy and comfortable in every place we visited. She also added humor to our trip, making it more enjoyable and relaxed! We all loved Enida! Her commitment to showing us the region and creating an environment that everyone loved was truly a work of art. Nida has the personality to connect with everyone on their level (as we had a range of travelers on the trip, some elderly, and some of us with high energy wanting to do and see as much as we could) and she took her time to get to know us all. She has the keen ability to meet travelers where they are, adjust her style and make everyone feel welcomed and at home. I cannot forget to compliment our amazing driver Jelco (we called him Mr. Wish) who was wonderful, kind, and was always prompt, kept the bus clean, at the perfect temperature and always greeted us with a big smile! As a 13-time Gate 1 traveler, Enida was the best guide I have had. All of them were wonderful in their unique way (which is why I keep coming back and will continue to do so) but Nida and Jelco were a great team and are gems among the G1 best. I would love to travel with both of them again on another trip in the region.
Vonita S.I would just like to say what a great time my wife and I had on this tour. The scenery was beautiful and the towns were very interesting to explore. My grandparents were from Slovenia, so seeing this area was very meaningful. All of the local guides were very good and entertaining. The only suggestion I would have is to spend a night in Ljubljana. The time there was too short to see everything the town has to offer. All of your tour managers are very knowledgeable, great with people, very helpful, and want everyone to have a great time. But Jelena was far above any other tour manager we have ever had. It is very obvious the she has a great time doing these tours and that energy really spreads to everyone in the group. She really cares about everyone and wants to do everything she can to make it the best tour they ever had. She also spent far more free time with us than any other manager. She would let us know when she was going into town so that we could have a drink before dinner and then would show us places to eat. This was great because it gave us additional time to learn more about the countries. She was also always providing us with produce grown in the area, food made in the areas, and local drinks to keep us hydrated. The thing that I enjoyed the most was the humor she brought to the tour. She told the serious side to the culture but then also included the humorous side. But then as I said before, her joyful personality really made the tour special. Jelena is truly a great tour manager but also a great representative for Gate 1.
James B.Our trip to Croatia, Slovenia, and Montenegro was most enjoyable. The tour manager Tina Nahmijas was superb, excelling in every aspect of her duties and responsibilities. Besides, she was very professional, knowledgeable, candid, and friendly. The driver, Igor, also made every effort to keep us safe and secure. Overall, it was such a great trip that it has reinforced our desire to continue planning more trips with Gate1.
Shivaji S.My trip to Croatia was wonderful and I just wanted to say that both the guides were OUTSTANDING. The guides make the whole experience. Traveling solo is hard but knowing the guides are well informed about the areas and so organized makes it so much easier.
Michelle B.Our trip was exceptional! Our guide for Croatia/Slovenia/Montenegro/Italy was a young woman by the name of TENA. Well-versed, knowledgeable, engaging and lively! I would not hesitate to travel with her again. This was our first Gate 1 adventure, and we had no idea how immersed we would be on this tour. Congratulations to your company for putting together a wonderful trip and great value for cost! Will be looking forward to more Gate1 adventures in the future!
John E.The walking tour of Croatia was amazing! Our guides Ivan and Mate were fabulous, funny, fit, and friendly. I travelled with my son, one of my childhood friends and her daughter and we all loved the experience. We loved the surprise Olive Oil tasting at the beginning and all of the group meals. The hikes were challenging, but not too much so, with plenty of opportunities for breaks. Our little group of four added on two days in Split and two days in Dubrovnik which allowed us time to explore the cities, too. When we were in Korcula, we opted not to go on the hike to the Mljet park so that we could let some sore joints heal and spend a day immersing in the town. The hotels were well appointed and generally located in convenient areas. Unfortunately the Hotel Lapad is on a street that has been under construction for a while. Hopefully, the street and promenade will be completed in the next year or so. But that didn't stop us from enjoying our stay there. Each of the hotels on our trip were well appointed, had great staff, fabulous breakfast buffets, and were close to restaurants, beaches and historic sights. We also met some wonderful folks, shared contact information, and hope to travel with them again! I've told everyone that Croatia was my favorite European country thus far...the Adriatic Sea was gorgeous, the red tile roofs were classic, the history was all around us, and the people were so friendly.
Julie H.Our trip was wonderful. We fell in love with Croatia and our two walking guides, Ivan and Mate. The walking and hiking were wonderful. I would prefer more trail hiking. Some of our walking was on roads, but nevertheless, lovely. I would say at least half of our group really were not hikers and by the last two days, these folks were done. Ivan was very patient and worked well with them. I cannot say enough about the great organization, care, accommodations, and patience of Ivan and Mate. Fantastic trip.
Katheryn S.The trip was more than I anticipated. Elvis, our tour guide, was exceptional and shared so much history and his local knowledge. I would highly recommend this trip.
Aileen D.In a word, AMAZING. Our hikes, the islands, meals, special tastings and the guides were incredible!
Mary H.I had a wonderful time during my trip with Gate 1! Honestly, I had low expectations with organized tours due to my previous not ideal experience with a different tour company. My experience with Gate 1 is exceptional due to my excellent Tour Director Nikolina. She is a treasure to your company! She is very knowledgeable, considerate and prioritizes safety in all our activities. Our driver is also very professional and skilled. I normally prefer independent travel but because of the region I was visiting, I opted to take this organized tour and I'm delighted to find Gate 1 for this particular destination and the fact that I was traveling alone. I felt safe the whole time. The quality of the hotels we stayed in are also excellent! I would highly recommend Gate 1 and this particular destination because of Nikolina and Dali's team! I'd also like to commend the wonderful customer service experience regarding my trip. My husband was helping me arrange for this trip and when my flights were delayed, he was able to speak with someone and not a just a mere recording. We have always been able to talk to someone in customer service prior to the trip who were able to give us answers to our questions. Thank you for this wonderful experience!
Vilma P.I just returned from the Discovery Tour "14 Day Dalmatian Isles, Croatia & Slovenia". It was fabulous!! Jelena was probably the best tour manager I've ever had on any tour. Her kindness, knowledge of the area of our tour and management ability were excellent. It was a joy to have her guiding us on our journey. What a great trip!
Karen M.Gate 1 travel guides are the best in the business. Although all the guides are good, I have my favorites: Ivan and Jaecko on the Croatian Walking Tour. Ivan & Jaecko were phenomenal hiking us up and down small mountains in Croatia, carrying our lunches and sometimes our gear, smiling at us, always. They helped me and my companion in every way in which we needed help, from lost chargers to getting to the ferries on time. These two were the utmost professionals: knowledgeable, helpful, personable, and charming. If you want to see Ivan smiling at you, watch the Croation Islands Walking Tour video.
Claire B.Our recent trip to Albania, Montenegro, Croatia and Slovenia was fantastic !! We, including our clients, enjoyed our tours very much. Pero, our tour Manager was very organized and calm the whole trip. Our driver was very careful and took us to the different countries with no issues and always on time. Our hotels and meals were great. It was one of the best trips we ever had. Thank you Gate 1 for showing us the world for Less!! Looking forward to our next trip.
Heidy C.I just finished the survey for the recent 12 Day Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia trip we completed and just wanted to let you know what gem of an employee you have in Mario. There needed to be a category above excellent for me to check off in the survey when evaluating him. We knew we would see may beautiful sites and scenes during our vacation. Little did we know the true treasure of the trip would be having Mario as our Tour Manager. He was wonderfully organized, a joy to be around, and the care he took for us and the other travelers on the trip was obviously done very sincerely, and his kind heart showed at all times. I know many of the things he did were requirements of the job, so to speak. I also know there were numerous times he went above and beyond what the responsibilities of his position required. Thank you so much for assigning Mario to our vacation!
Lisa K.Just want to mention our tour manager Mario. He is the most caring man I met who was a stranger to all of us. So knowledgeable, so nice and kind and who worked around the clock to make our large (40 people) group comfortable and happy. We really appreciated his efforts and will never forget him. Looking forward to new trips with Gate 1 Travel, hopefully with Mario.
Shelamis R.It was amazing! Croatia, Montenegro and Slovenia were absolutely beautiful! We enjoyed Royal Neptun Hotel very much! Food delicious, views were great! We hated to leave this place! It was a great start to our trip! I love to write and I hope to write a story about this trip!
Nancy R.Thank you for your email. Our trip was splendid! This was our first trans Atlantic trip, so naturally, we had apprehensions about details and logistics. Gate1 allayed our concerns at every turn, especially when I took ill on the last day and our return trip was delayed. We greatly appreciate the assistance we received with rescheduling our flights. Our tour manager, Jelena, went well beyond our expectations. Not only was Jelena knowledgeable about the places we visited (history, culture, food, humor, etc.), but she also offered sound advice regarding eating, shopping, and safety. The little extras she provided created a delightful element of fun. Our group was large (39!) but Jelena knew everyone by name, and pointed out details she knew were pertinent to specific individuals. Jelena sets a high bar for the tour managers of our future trips!
Mary S.My trip was great, despite the heat. I credit our tour manager, Nikola, who set s joyful tone that carried us through in great style. His upbeat energy and sense of humor, combined with sensitivity to the needs of individuals and of the group, made the experience seamless. I particularly appreciated his sharing his knowledge of the history and culture of the region with us. I travel to learn, after all, not just to be amused. And yet he was great at keeping us entertained as well. His terrific playlist made the bus rides seem short and painless. He went above and beyond, working long hours every day of the tour, to ensure that we all had a great experience.
Carolyn B.I am writing to commend tour director extraordinaire Nikola as not only an accomplished professional at his work, but also as a truly wonderful person. Nikola went out of his way every moment of each day to make us guests have the greatest and smoothest experience of beautiful Croatia, Slovenia, and northern Italy: Nikola's deep knowledge of the regions, their history, geopolitics and culture made for a phenomenally instructive two weeks. Nikola provided many treats along the routes. Nikola also took time from his personal off-the-clock time to show us additional sights, take us off beaten paths, and recommend activities and restaurants so that we could make the very most of each locality. Nikola possesses stellar interpersonal skills, which was evident in the fact that he was always alert to every group member's needs and went well above the call of duty to maximize everyone's happiness. Nikola is also a lot of fun, which bonded our group and had everyone enjoy the trip beyond our expectations. Thank you to Gate 1 for organizing such outstanding travels: I look forward to going on many more adventures with your company, and I now recommend Gate1Travel to my family and to all my friends around the world. Hats off and a zillion thanks to Nikola again!!!
Sophie M.Very nice!
Jill W.Outstanding
Brandee M.The 12 Day Albania, Montenegro, Croatia & Slovenia tour was great. We had a lot of fun with the numerous historical as well UNESCO protected sites. They're all eye openers for us that are now forever etched in our memories. We've also met interesting people with various background & challenges in life. We've learned that most of us in our life's stage have common goals...to go and see as many places as we can and to learn and enjoy the history, people, and culture of each one. With Nicola at the helm as our Tour Manager, his willingness to share his background knowledge in addition to his own personal experience while growing up in those places, made it all vivid & encompassing as we recreate them in our minds. His attention to details and making the group's safety as his primary concern made us all assured that we are in good hands. Again, kudos to Nicola for a job well done.
Walter S.My husband and I had a very memorable trip! It was like three vacations in one. First, Croatia and Montenegro along the beautiful Adriatic Coastline. The culture, history, food, and the people made the beautiful environment even more spectacular! Then Slovenia, mountains, clear waters, and birds singing all day was such surprise to us. It allowed us a breather between all the traveling in Croatia and the excitement of Venice, where we stayed an extra two days. That was well worth it! I know Gate1Travel cannot have any control on the weather but if you did, you were exemplary! We never had 16 days of the BEST weather ever!!! 70-80 clear skies, not one cloud and no humidity! We were so lucky. Our local guides were unbelievable and the best we could imagine. Everyone enlightened us and had such a spirited personality and lived and grew up in the location we visited. In Dubrovnik our guide showed us old pictures of her family on the street we were looking at. She explained how as a child she hid in the school during bombings but played nevertheless like a child would. Our guide Jon was from Slovenia and was very organized and kept all of us on schedule and was a support to all of us. He was funny in a very different way. He explained the Slovenian way, even if everything is fantastic on a tour, a Slovenian would say, "Not bad", but to the USA vacationers it would be "Excellent!" We went on this tour to join past friends we met in Southwest Asia on a Signature Gate1Travel tour which was THE BEST TOUR EVER! This tour was great too. Thank You as always for great memories. This was our 8th tour with Gate1 and still no regrets. We are going next to Japan! Keep doing what you are doing!
Vivian K.I have booked many trips with Gate 1 and they have all been well-organized and enjoyable. However, I have to let you know that this trip to Ljubljana was delightful. The hotel was centrally located and convenient to everything; the excursions were professional and enjoyable, and the quick 6-day length was perfect for touring this delightful small capital. I am so glad I received the email from you about this trip as I would never have considered Slovenia otherwise. What a wonderful trip this was! I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to tour an undiscovered jewel of Europe!
Laura C.We had a wonderful trip to the Balkans! The group members were well traveled and well-behaved. On time and interesting travelers. The hotels were very good and all of the activities were well planned and perfectly implemented. Albania is an interesting country but may not have a mass appeal to tourists. As a tour operator myself, I was interested in assessing what the country has to offer in terms of tourism. Montenegro was mountainous and beautiful. We stayed at an amazing ski resort with a fantastic pool and spa. Croatia has long been a winner and we have done trips there. I liked being there in the off season when crowds were nowhere to be seen. Slovenia was enchanting. Bled is a gem and a great end point to the trip. In conclusion, the trip manager, Bine, was one of the best tour leaders I have ever known. Bine was patient, professional and incredibly knowledgeable. He seemed tireless and responded with great patience and care when group members fell ill. His knowledge of each of the Balkan countries was second to none. I will arrange a future group trip to this region mainly because of Bine. I look forward to working with him and Gate One to plan future trips. Thank you for planning such a wonderful itinerary.
Mary R.It was AWESOME! Duan, our tour manager was great: he's very knowledgeable & took good care of us. Regarding our destinations.... WOW!!! Croatia & Slovenia are AMAZING destinations!!! Both countries were very scenic: with breathtaking views & picturesque scenery & the most beautiful sunsets ??!! Of course, the overnight in Venice before the flight home was the "icing on the cake"! It was great to take another gondola ride esp. that it was the first gondola experience for my friend/travel buddy! Overall, this trip was another memorable experience! Thank you, GATE 1 for making this happen, esp. for making it affordable for us!! ?? Kudos to you.....Gate 1 Travel!
Grace C.I want to offer some comments about my recent trip to Albania, Montenegro, Croatia and Slovenia Tour, especially our guide, Pero. The tour was exceptional as I have indicated on the online evaluation. The trip itself was well planned and executed in a comfortable and pleasant manner. But the most impressive part of the entire experience for me was the manner in which Pero conducted himself AND the experience. He was kind and considerate to all of us, even though at the start he wasn't feeling his best. He went out of his way to make us feel secure and cared for. He is extremely knowledgeable and has a wonderful command of the English language. He shared not only his general knowledge but also his personal experiences throughout the regions we toured. He was very attentive to anyone who approached him, and I came to appreciate his gentle yet capable way of assisting people. I have been on several Gate 1 Tours around the world and have always found your guides to be competent , helpful and friendly. But I think Pero demonstrated EXCEPTIONAL knowledge and care for all of us. Please be sure to affirm him and his efforts and know if I were ever able to participate in another of his tours I would jump at the chance. He is a definite asset to your business and it was a pleasure for me to be part of his tour.
Robert L.I just want to say that my trip to Croatia/Slovenia was SO far beyond my expectations - it was just amazing. Now back in the United States I am just glowing with the memories of all the things I saw and did on the tour. I cannot believe that such travel is possible for an affordable price and though I have been curious about and tempted by other travel companies, I am now a loyal and firm customer of Gate 1 and feel no need to stray elsewhere. The choice of attractions and locales was brilliant, the wonderful, clean, comfortable and at times DAZZLING accommodations were a treat and the feeling of having every need attended to and each of our personal safety prioritized made for an incredible and transporting experience - everything one would wish for a vacation. Bine was an incredible tour guide - SO kind, lovely, knowledgeable and good humored and under his guidance it all ran like a well oiled machine! It was a wonder to see him deftly maneuver to accommodate the very individual dietary needs of our group, for instance. I want to seek opportunities to travel with him again - he is now my favorite tour guide! I must stop gushing or I'll go on all day - suffice it to say, the trip was INCREDIBLE!!!!!
Jill A.I have now been on multiple Gate1 trips and have more future trips already booked. That said, I am more than impressed and pleased with every aspect of the experience from initial planning and booking with my great Gate1 agent to all the amazing people and places Gate1 chooses to make it the best value in travel. I have certainly become an enthusiastic "ambassador" for Gate1 sharing my great experience with friends and family. The reason I am reaching out today is that I wanted to make you aware of the awesome service that was given by our Tour Leader, Nikola. While I must admit to being impressed by all the other Tour Leaders I have had the pleasure of meeting on past Gate1 trips, and thought they did a great job, Nikola was a cut above on every level. I can't begin to explain how he went above and beyond in every aspect to make our journey one of the most memorable ever. You need to clone Nikola, and have him teach others on how to run a tour. While being knowledgeable and efficient, he brought a genuine warmth and obvious love of people and wanting to make them happy that is hard to replicate. Either you have that gene or you don't...he has it. Please make sure Nikola gets special kudos for a job extremely well done!!!!
